The legends Uriah heep of progressive Heavy music. This song was the forerunner of the definition of true heavy music in 1970. Best British original group of the 1970's.
The sheer power and the deceptive simplicity of this song make it a timeless masterpiece... Between this album, Black Sabbath's first album, Deep Purple's In Rock and Led Zeppelin's third album ( and many others ) 1970 was a good year 🙂🙂🙂

Just incredible. The Heep are ridiculously underrated in the Pantheon, and the English Pantheon. One of the alltime greats. I was born in 1961. How lucky we were to be teenagers as rock was being born. What a song. This song rivals Deep Purple's greatest songs, and I am the ultimate Purple fan.

There was a radio station called Szabad Europa in Germany, and a dissident Hungarian hosted the Sunday afternoon program. I heard the first Uriah Heep songs there! A love that continues to this day, because they not only wrote simple songs ahead of their time, but also composed pieces, e.g. Salisbury! Well, the point is that my first two recordings of Uriah from the "Géza Ekecs" program/German radio/ were Gypsy and Come Away Melinda on a cassette tape recorder with a microphone! Here it was decided, and I started bringing the LPs to Hungary in 1972-73
Clean forgot about this band until my son asked me to listen to a Metallica rif and Uriah Heep came to mind, great music, son even agreed, very progressive for that Era,hmmmm our music was the foundation .
I must say Gypsy's riff was so memorable for me that it's really brought me to heavy rock sound when I was about 7 in early 70s. Way before AC/DC..The other was Purple's Smoke on the Water. My much older cousins played it and it caught me. I didn't play instrument then so I just hummed it a lot especially when doing something..😅

Can hear where Judas Priest got some of the inspiration for victim of changes in parts of this song. Some of the riffing also reminds me of wild thing, albeit heavier.
