I am 69 and right with you. This is an inspirational piece of music right here. Still remember the old scratchy vinyl LP that I wore out playing this song. May we all find out inner wizard
Demons and Wizards is one of the greatest albums of 1972. For me, this has always been Uriah Heep's highlight. Remembering summer 1972 still after 50 years...
Magicians birthday was good as well. I have both. I was 12 when I started listening to them and have been since. I'm 61 now and still have the albums from then and have them on cd.
Back in "the old days" I connected with this band for what ever reason, I don't really know, while in the Army during the early 70's. Some of my buddies thought them to be too weird, well there was that, but I also was into Pink Floyd and Tangerine Dream. Okay well I was also under the influence good weed and hash along with some psychodelia at that time. Anyway, it took a few years before meeting people who were closet fans in those same early years of the 70's (a thought that just hit me; I liked Uriah Heep in the early 70's and now I'm in my early 70's, wow, that's heavy). There was a point I was going to make here but, for the life of me I can't remember what it was. Maybe, it was how all of that didn't affect, or is that effect my...what was I talking about, well actually I wasn't talking about anything because I'm just typing. But seriously, I have been a fan for a long time. LOL!
@@2spirited4u How about the prices ... I remember when an ounce of Gold Colombian was $15 and we complained when it went up to $25 ... that was maybe 1977 or 78 .
It’s as magnificent as it was the day it was released, becoming a lifelong favorite. I’ve gotta say that as a 71 year old hippie chick, I’ve heard the finest music ever around.
My gosh man, there was only one sound different from all others! This line up of Uriah Heep was by far the most lyrical, the most harmonizing! "and" instrumental band that had it all!!!
As a 14 year old in 1970 I found a love that has lasted a lifetime, that love is for great music, thank you Uriah beep, Peter green,Pink Floyd, marmalade, bad finger and many many more for giving me something to live for …..
Demons and wizards was the album of choice that year for every party or just get to together, oh to be that young and that energized by life, a time of pure joy …. God I miss my teenage years…
I think Byron was up there with the best. The range in his voice was incredible. For me Heep were never the same after Gary Thain died and when David tragically died they never really sounded the same. So sad as they were a fabulous band.
When I was 57 years old my 18 year old girlfriend bought this album for me on vinyl. I'm 65 now and she is still in my life. You treat someone good and the never leave. I have long rock n' roll hair with 2 thin grey streaks and it is natural.
A million views in two years. Amazing. Growing up my friends and I would sit outside playing guitars and singing. This is one of the first songs my friend Paul taught me. Thirty years ago.
“Why don’t we listen to the voices in our heart, cause then I know we’d find we’re not so far apart. Everybody’s got to be happy everyone should see, for we know the joy of life and peace that love can bring.” 1:28
At 64, I just listened to the entire song for the first time in who knows how many years and I still knew every word and every riff !!!!!!! Classic !!!
One of my first Albums that I ever purchased myself with lawn mowing money, I still have it. I cherish this song more today than ever before, I actually cry now, we were never meant to live this way, stuck in some kind of slave construct or open prison. I am seeing a split though as of late, there seems to be many waking up, but just as many or more that seem dependent on the system, perhaps we are seperating, I pray for a positive future, especially for the children.
So spoke the wizard in his mountain home The vision of his wisdom means we'll never be alone And I will dream of my magic (k)night And the million silver stars that guide me with their light
Seen them July 22, 1972 at Parkway Field in Louisville, KY. Will forever remember it! I am going to be 70 in February, and still love their music!! ❤😊❤
This song chills me from head to toe. Everything about it is fantastic. Perfect intro, amazing voice not to mention the backing vocals. Love this band in every single era. Simply spectacular!!
I’m 36… my dad took me to see Heep as my first ever gig when I was a kid - they played with Nazareth! I was the youngest there at the time; I have seen younger fans there since and it makes me happy that someone’s being raised on good music 🎧 🎸
found this song while looking for a song about wizards, and gotta say this was a fantastic introduction to Uriah Heep. One of my favorite songs of all time definitely!
At about the 3:00 minute mark you can hear a sustained whistling noise. That is an actual tea kettle LOL. After they had recorded the song, they were listening to it with the studio door opened. In the next room was a small kitchen. Being British, someone was boiling water in a tea kettle to make some tea. So they recorded the tea kettle like six times, then sped up the recording of it so it was in tune with the song. True story...
I remember the first time I heard the Heep. Long ago, I was mesmerized by their presence. Decades later, this utter feeling of awe continues. They were perfect!

Magicians birthday was also a great piece of work. I listened to both when I was 11 years old in 73.

Great band.....great song
64 and still rocking....

Isn't it the best! Talk to people all around the world! It has lots of hazards but its blessings too
I’m seeing them tonight in concert… Mercury Ballroom!

This album was released in 1972. It will be 52 years old this May.

52 years , not 60 ! Don't make us and the music any older than we already are
@gardensofthegods I'm 68 that's old yawl. Music & weed were a hell of alot better in the late 60s& 70s.

You got that right. One of my favorite heep songs
3 minutes of genius.
Toooo much! I'm 64 and these sounds of Uriah Heep will be with me forever.
Absolutely brilliant. Masterpiece music never forgotten.
I'm 70 years old and I remember when this album came out. It was an instant must have.
It is still a must have! At least I think….
yep exactly seen them when they toured with Jethro Tull mid 70's
Absolutely! I bought the 8 track tape at Fort Lewis in 1972. Awesome memories!
I wore this album out when I was young. It's a classic. Today's music will never top this!!
Absolutely. Songs of this era are works of art. With album covers that were also works of art.
@Kurt I , I still get psychedelic (LSD-25) flashbacks from 'The Wizard.'
Check the last Greta Van Fleet Meeting the master ....it was inspired by this Heep's masterpiece

It actually sound incredibly fresh, modern and iconic.

We were lucky to have this experience. I was fortunate enough to see them perform. They were incredible.
The days of hearing a lead singer like this are long, long gone sadly.
I love Uriah Heep, David Byron was a monster singer.
Juan Olmo
He was a rock great.
Kind of a tragic figure though. He was kicked out of the band due to excessive drinking and died ten years later in 1985.
I think Byron was up there with the best. The range in his voice was incredible. For me Heep were never the same after Gary Thain died and when David tragically died they never really sounded the same. So sad as they were a fabulous band.

One of the things Iike about these old songs is that there is a feeling of HOPE about them that you may not find now
my god this guy had some pipes.
This is one of the most extraordinary albums on Proto-Prog Rock in the Rock´s History.
I've liked a lot of bands growing up but this was the first album I loved. Such a timeless classic
Just turned 68, still love this band. One of my first concerts back in the day!!
My first concert in March of 75. Not long after Byron was fired from the band. I consider myself very lucky.
When I was 57 years old my 18 year old girlfriend bought this album for me on vinyl. I'm 65 now and she is still in my life. You treat someone good and the never leave. I have long rock n' roll hair with 2 thin grey streaks and it is natural.
BTW she is thin, black, and beautiful. I took her to Oz fest and she was one of the 5 blacks there of the 50,000.
This band will be to live in our hearts forever!!!
My mom used to play this album when I was a kid. These guys were in a class by themselves.
staple party tune for those of us who were teens in the early 70s. Uriah Heep is still a treat to listen to
