Another great Raptor strategy is to have a small sacrificial plot in front of your gate so that Raptors attempt to eat that first. This is great so you have a distraction that flags the raptors as hostile and gives turrets on the wall more time to engage or gets every one involved automatically.
I've long since stopped caring about copper at all when I build a base. You need it in such small amounts relatively speaking that simply making the odd copper-mining expedition has served me just fine. And that's made a lot of places into more attractive base locations than when I was always looking to get both metals inside my walls.
Ive noticed from your base builds that you dont seem to be aware of the keyboard keys that let you level out your building placements. You dont have to have lopsided buildings. +,- key will raise and lower buildings, and the [ ] bracket keys will tilt or straighten your buildings. I dont think these keys are listed in the control settings, but thats what they are and what they do.
You went out there to tame the boss raptor and thought "hey, if I'm going all the way out there might as well do a location guide" two birds with one stone style. I was definitely curious, sweet vid man
Been bopping between 5 videos for the last our not really "feeling it" and this popped up in the notification. This has retained my attention more then anything else today HAHA
I'm all about Not settling in Kenshi, just running around solo like it's Breath of the Wild or something. That's the great thing about the game, you can just do whatever you want (until eaten by beak things of course)
Will raptors still try to attack if all of your crops are interior hydroponics? If no, Raptor Island may as well be peaceful mode with a sprinkling of cannibals.
Edit to add, help this man hit 10k! Come on! 0:38 Revenge raids ignore no go zones and have a range further than the size of the map. But for generic raids from the major factions yeah it's pretty safe :) 0:56 To be clear, spiders move at 11.185mph under water. They do that because their walk speed is 25 and is a unit does not "swim" they move at 2x their walk speed. You take the units x 0.2237 to get the mph... I guess you did say underwater so you were right in a way if that's what you meant :P Skimmers, Blood and Skin spiders are all tied. All that to say that if you train swimming on a Bull (Or in your case Beakthing) they are faster once they hit the high 70s (Which takes no time to reach) as their swim speed multiplier is 1.5, the highest of any actual swimmers. I never realized Spiders had such an insane walk speed though. I learned something new today! 2:34 Those stats are if they are age 1.0. They spawn younger than that and if they constantly try to eat your crops chances are they will never reach 1.0 near you haha. 4:15 Awesome info! I never really did crop handling other than a little testing here and there. Good to know. I'll add if you get hydroponics researched you can build on the top floor to keep your crops safe. You can even use crops as a way to semi-afk Strength train a unit. Give them the best armour you can, a lot of food and a weapon they lack the Strength to use. Tell them to work on a ton of farms and just check in every so often.
Also fun fact I learned from my ally every faction run... Even when allied raptors will still eat your crops... RIP.
The damage calculations for animals have been really interesting. Spider attack damage at "Elder" age is insane. Interestingly though, my elder gorillo doesn't hit higher than 40 or so. Dogs on the other hand are like spiders in that their damage gets crazy high with age.
@@paulrogersgaming So all animals minus Gorillos have pierce damage. It's basically harpoon damage. They also have cut and blunt damage as well but here is the deal... Pierce damage doesn't care about quality. If a weapon has 1.0 pierce damage it can be quality 5 or quality 100 and it will still have 1.0 pierce damage. All animals (Minus Skimmers) have ancient quality weapons. As a human if a cut majority weapon has 1.0 cut damage and you have 100 Dex and weapon skill you will do 52 cut damage with it. 13 is from the minimum cut dmg, 19.5 is from 100 Dex and 19.5 is from 100 Weapon skill... If it has 2.0 you would do 91, as again the 13 minimum damage and then 39 from Dex and 39 from weapon skill. Min damage + Cut damage of weapon(0.005(Dex+Weapon Skill))(Max-min) where max is 52 and min is 13. The way pierce damage works is first they get Pierce dmg x 10 as minimum damage. So, a bull/crab/beak thing which has 1.0 pierce damage will get 10 minimum damage. The formula for pierce damage in total is min + 130(Pierce damage multiplier)(Pierce damage)(0.005(Dex+Martial Arts)) The 130 is due to the 0.65 Global damage multiplier all melee weapons gets, before it the value is 200. Pierce damage multiplier is 1.2 by default, and unlike cut/blunt damage scaling there is no max-min. So that means an Elder bull with 100 all stats (1.1x Stats so the Dex + Martial arts will be 231 as they will have 110 Martial Arts and you get 10% bonus Dexterity for being naked so the 110 Dex will be 121) would have 10+(130)(1.0)(1.2)(0.005(231)) pierce damage. Which equals 190.18 if I did my math correctly. That's not even including the 13 minimum cut damage that also get and the scaling for the cut damage of their weapon which to be fair isn't that great but still. A bull with 100 all stats outdamages a 100 all stat dude with a Falling Sun. It's disgustingly strong. The weapon of a Bonedog has 4.0 cut damage and 0.5x pierce while a Bull has 1.0 cut damage and 1.0x pierce. Pierce damage is so insane that the Bull will out damage the Bonedog. I think you get the point hah. If you ever want the formulas (With cut damage and pierce damage combined to make it simple) they are on the wiki for every animal.
Hey, great video! I'm considering doing a few hunting bases in raptor island or leviathan coast but I'm having trouble managing more than 1 base, a video about multi bases would be a good idea I think :D
I finaly done my first base after near have a hearth attack with the walls, and i want to ask if the backpacks make diference for the resource carriers, i have some with the large backpacks, but they take all the stuff in the inventory, running with the backpack empty. And i made my base after seeing your video of sikuun, darkfinger and northern coast, i made near the abandoned library in darkfinger, good spot for a compact base.
If you add in modded containers for death items, your animal forager will collect and kill said animal. I know it works on spider teeth and leviathan pearls, I haven't tried it on robots and humanoid/skeleton enemies. I got tired of the rural west coast, so I haven't checked recently, but I think the auto-haul to corpse furnace got patched out for leviathans, either that or my game was bugged. Was funny to watch Kang & Ruka (my designated gate guards in all play throughs because they're nostalgia characters and I hate the Shek dialog package) wander off with a grocery store sized object. As much as I LOVE swamp raptors for their potential to turn your farmers into a terrifying death squad, hauling copper from the mainland or buying skelly repair kits gets old. That said, RI is great for getting armored and skilled up before moving somewhere more dangerous.
one rather unique location that is very easily missed is the "region" of the islands at the very end of the iron trail. for resources there is wind and a very poor iron deposit and that's it. the main appeal of the location though is that at default faction relations literally nothing hostile will ever show up and the only visitors will be the occasional hiver trade caravan. as far as I am aware this is the only location in the entire game that is both truly peaceful while also having usable natural resources.
just gonna throw this out there for people who want to win at kenshi in this specific part of the map but Hydroponics are straight up the easiest way to handle raptors and you don't have to even be accosted by them because all your food is grown inside, additionally you can wall off the whole island so any cannibals are stuck taking a dip while you hurl harpoons at them for fun, you can also capture and tame all the raptors and send massive waves of them to angrily shit all over your enemies since there will be a ton of them if you aren't hunting them to extinction.
The only-and I mean the ONLY reason I’m ever using biofuel gennies is if wind just isn’t an option. There’s nothing easier than just setting up a few big mk II wind turbines and some batteries and just never having to think about power again
Have we done fishman isle? Cuase it’s like a straight upgrade if I’m not mistaken. I guess crab spawns are less valuable but green fertility and your technically close to a couple United cities, however any grocery runs that go through beak thing territory are destined to fail.
Vain is full of Copper, just make a little Outpost for ypur Outpost maybe and go for some "Walks on the Beach"... Was anyone else reminded of Jurassic Park by this?
ive settled on Raptor Island before on a hive playthrough. kinda boring for the most part. Only had cannibals visiting. though using the waste fiends mod turned the island into a detroit gang war between fog fiends and swamp raptors, so that was fun to watch and provided a lot of meat/leather for my buggy bois
Actually in vanilla you can gain faction friendship with gutters and spiders using no face and bug master and buying them out of slavery over and over. You can then pick up and carry even elder beak things and drop them when you need a monster ally.
You can build wall from southern peninsula to the land and use it as a bridge and walk instead of swimming. Building char needs to be standing on previously build part of the wall, manually placed, auto engineer will not build it. AI will not pathfind the "bridge", ever. Nor will your units so you need to manually send them on bridges end, after that to the other and and then down from the bridge. Its micro-intesive but it will save you million time in game. Its not like i have build absolutely unnecessarily huge "hive" with mods "clean queen" and "lorefriendly recruitement" and with king Cyberbeeb there. Only similar location is crab island, which is more dangerous, worse position, you trade wind for occasional acid rain, i wasnt able to build "bridge" but i was able to build gate in deep water :D but i think is patched and you have to win island over. Raptor Island you dont have to win over, raptors are not enemie, they are friends, they accept you into their home and if you start growing just little bit of food they will bring large quantities of their own food (half of it rotter but still) and skin? and share! Now when i think about it, raptors might be the best friends i ever had 😢. Also my Cyberbeep with 160Kg of **** makes it from Raptor island to Flats lagoons before your Beep from The Swamp with 160Kg of **** and he can pick up 11 beakthing eggs on his way back just by casually strolling through nests full of beakthings who are unable to stop him.

Smart. Very smart. o7
Sun Tzu over here. Excellent tip.
Ya know I was indifferent about biofuel, but after so much time watching your videos I’m a firm wind supremacist 😂
lol, 'Firm Wind' made me laugh.
The fact that black desert has no wind is a bit nonsense tho

700+ hrs and I’ve never tried the forage animal job! Thanks for the tips and another great video! Can’t wait to try this base location! 💜
I JUST finished re-watching all the rest and now a new one? Hell yes!
