    I love how GM said it was a mere "anomaly". My problem is that a supposed " little " glitch can render this $100k off-road capable beast absolutely useless.

      At a company I worked for a few years ago, the owners son placed a project bid and forgot to add one zero. Needless to say they were in the red before even stepping onto the jobsite. The owner called it a computer glitch. Did his son loss his job? Of course not. Anyone else and he would of kicked him out in a few seconds.

      Overall I think most have done a pretty good job given that they are trying all new things moving away from ICE but there are hiccups. Of course every maker will face issues. Enjoyed this video, especially the summary of the F150 Lightning. Towing is a big issue for EV’s. There was a significant difference with the trailer attached and empty versus the trailer loaded with the ATV. It would be interesting to compare those differences with an ICE F150. I was considering the Lightning but after watching a few towing videos, realized that the reduction in range with towing is a show-stopper. If I want to pull my boat from Minneapolis into Canada, I would be concerned how to make it to the Canadian lake from International Falls with the type of road for traveling. I assume that fast charging stations could be installed but I don’t see that happening for several years. At my age, I’m not certain that I will ever be able to buy an EV that would make practical and economical sense. Minnesota requires that EV owners submit mileage driven in an EV annually so that road taxes can be assessed (to make up for loss of tax revenue at gas pumps). I think it is great technology but not really affordable for most families, especially with the high inflation that is happening right now. Also, gas prices have been artificially escalated by current gov’t policies cutting oil licenses on Federal lands and the nonsense that the world is going to end in 30 years if we don’t drastically reduce CO2 emissions by 2030 or sooner. Also, the tax credit on EV’s is a big scam on taxpayers. The gov’t is not going to cut spending so the tax credit is only going to drive higher tax rates for everyone. All that said, I enjoy watching your videos on EV technology.

    High speed, high load is an absolute nightmare for electric motor efficiency. Electric motors are most efficient low load. The motor in isolate is most efficient at high speed, but introduce aero drag and it's much more efficient at low speed.
    Combustion engines are the opposite. They are more efficient at high load. You will burn more fuel, but you're getting a greater portion of the energy out of the fuel.
    If an electric truck and gas truck have the same range empty, put a load in the bed or tow anything and the gas truck will gain a massive lead.

If we're talking about the range on the Ford lightning and how the the tires pulling a trailer affects the range like an other gasoline or diesel powered truck, how do you think the range will be affected with a 2-3 year truck with the average of 10-15 thousand miles? Like a new cell phone you use it everyday and recharge it every night, and have software updates. You have a new phone with 40 percent battery life at the end of the day. And at the end of year 2 a phone 10 percent. I know the phone has a much smaller battery and you download and update your apps and software updates. But the truck is out driving around in the cold and hot, up and down mountains putting a lot of stress on the main battery. Just thinking out loud how your going to use it everyday like a truck compared to a normal driving conditions in a car like a Tesla with little no an unnoticeable drop off in range.

    Advice for your trials: Use the "no freeways" option for the trip planning. You don't prove much by driving hours on freeways.
    You'd be surprised how much work (and thus varied experience) it is to drive without using freeways. And you will also find you lose necessary communications fairly frequently.
    A worst case I have experienced is a recent trip from Texas to Illinois and back...no freeways. I lost smart phone communications and internet repeatedly. In one instance it left me out in the middle of nowhere (near Poplar Bluff, MO) with no idea where I was.
    Google maps doesn't drop crumbs. When you're high and dry, the least it should do is show you where it last knew you were...and how you got there. I had to resort to the compass until I got back into civilization. Without that I would have had to get out and check the moss on trees...in the dark.

    All new vehicles (ICE or EV) need a big red REBOOT button on the dash. Something that momentarily disconnects the 12v battery, forcing all the computers in the vehicle to restart. Don't make the customer have to rip open compartments and spend 20 minutes just getting to the 12v battery.

    I am semi retired and am very much looking into your reviews. They are factual and give me "aha" moments. That the Hummer let you stranded and On-Star just dropped the ball is unforgivable. Not that the Hummer is on my list. After watching Tyler Hoover and this channel frequently I am getting a really good idea of what EV is capable of. I still work about two days in the office every week and am looking for a quiet comfort ride on back roads in South Western Ontario, Canada. We get some snow, never know how much because of the lakes but I have not exercises my snow tires in three years (also because of the pandemic). The F150 seems to be an excellent all rounder, really something to keep in mind. Also looking at the mid size SUV/CUV market. I plan to wait until there is stock at the dealerships and negotiations are in a better place since the taxes are brutal here. Interesting system you have in Colorado with the taxes on the difference. Love the shows.

    • @picklemetimbers3003
      @picklemetimbers3003 Год назад +5

      Watch myth busters. Tonneau cover and tailgate get same milage. The tailgate creates an air bubble then the new flowing air goes over top that and the tailgate same as tonneau cover. You only see increased drag when there is no tailgate at all.

    • @Michael-1337
      @Michael-1337 Год назад +2

      The covers reduce mileage in some cases. This is because at speed a circulating air cushion forms in the bed of the truck allowing air to flow more smoothly over the vehicle until it reaches the tailgate. You may have noticed that tailgates have gotten thicker over the years and the reason for this is help smooth out the air flow even more as leaves the vehicle. A cover disrupts this air cushion formation and increases drag by a small amount and increases weight.
