I love this film. Yes, there are aspects that could've been better, but I still love it. I don't get why people say the animation is bad, it really isn't
I loved the road to El Dorado, its up there as one of my staple classics like Emperors new groove. I liked the funny ones and both knew how to tone it down for the dramatic scenes and while the plot can be predictable, it was still an enjoyable film.
I love this movie and it is one if my favorites to this day. I still quote it. I also wish the soundtrack got more credit. It is my favorite Elton John soundtrack because it is unique, fun, heartfelt, and wholesome and you cannot go wrong with him. And with “it’s tough to be a god” it is always amazing hearing how much time and takes it took to get it exactly right. I also love the visual style and how it mimicked psychedelic elements. Kevin Kline is a highlight. His comedic timing and delivery is impeccable and he has good on screen chemistry with the other actors. I also always forget rosie Perez (except now) played Chel. I still consider it one of her best.
I freaking love this movie when I was a kid and now as an adult. I was born in 2000 and I can't remember if I owned this movie in VHS or CD either way I owned a copy of this movie and I fell in love with the movie as a kid. I'm half Mexican and Salvadoran. So it was a movie of my ancestors. I had both Aztec and Mayan history in my blood. I never really realized the movie was racially insensitive because you know I was a kid. But when Smarty pants explained why he felt that way with the movie I was like oh yeah that's pretty bad but as someone who was from this culture it wasn't too much of a problem as there are other movies that are much worse and very racially insensitive. But other than that yeah I think the movie deserve more praise at it's time but glad it's getting recognition now. Besides I think It's Tough to be a God is one of my favorite songs from the movie.
2000 baby as well and OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH GOSH do I agree. I def did not notice any racially insensitive stuff but i mean, we were kids. what child is really gonna recognize that?! But this was truly a favorite of mine. I both wanted and didn't want more of this as a kid because it was just perfect. what more could there be.
It's strange to see that some good movies from the past aren't as loved as they should be, but thinking about it, current shows and movies are getting the same treatment, like Glitch Techs and others.
This was a true victims of the post renaissance era and apparently advertising…somehow…because people were onboard initially, thinking it was going to be big epic tale in Latin America maybe get the dreamworks Latina equivalent to a Disney princess movie. The film makers did research on Latin America by going to Latin America for the film and let the public know that they did that. But what apparently flew over everyone’s heads was the name which was a dead giveaway to what they were getting. It’s called the Road to El Dorado not El Dorado. It’s meant to be an homage parody of the Road to… movies staring Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour. And if people understood that it might have turned into a fun franchise.
It was also partially inspired by rudyard kipling’s ‘The Man Who Would Be King’ It’s a shame that 2D dreamworks was mostly forgotten, with the exception of prince of Egypt. Both lion king sequels also were kind of forgotten as well, unfortunately. Anyway, another really good, slept on movie is the adventures of tintin (2011) I’d highly recommend checking it out 👍
all I can say is that it's great that the movie gets the love it deserves. Had this movie on dvd as a kid and to this day love it. same for the music video with Elton John.
Love this movie! My parents would attest that my sister and I drove my parent crazy with the music aspect - we would sing the opening song non-stop for days (kinda to the levels of Let It Go, lol). So I cannot understand how the music part was lackluster. Especially when you have bangers like Trail We Blaize, Tough to be a God, and personal favorite Someday Out of the Blue. Whatever, to each their own. But looking back on it now, the story might be a bit... insensitive and certainly not like amazing animation or anything. But for what it's worth, it is still a fun film and holds a special place in my heart. It will always be my favorite film to watch when I need something funny and meme for sure. Tulio has such a meme face for sure!
I watched El Dorado before it was cool, and honestly I completely agree, it's underrated, not enough people have seen it, and if people would bother to spend an hour and a half to watch a movie as golden as this, they'd see it didn't get the attention it deserves
loved it and definitely deserved better, is not my favorite animated movie but is in the top 10 and one i did watch multiple times and find myself remembering from time to time
This is the first time I'm hearing of this movie in years but I it's actually gaining a cult following it will be well deserved. I was just thinking of this film as I watched Treasure planet last night since they both have similar art styles. I still have this on dvd. Maybe on vhs somewhere.
My favourite animated movie as a kid was el Dorado, I recently revisited it and my younger self was proven right establishing it as one of my most beloved films full stop. The two big reasons for this are 1. What I like to call minions syndrome, because of the massive commercial success of despicable me and the more recent minions prequel most films try to play it safe by using a proven formula making a lot modern animations like a copy and paste picture but with different characters, couch couch Mario movie (I'm not saying I dislike these movies but they aren't as unique). This copycat culture didn't start or end with despicable me it's just a good example as it itself is also a rehash of the huge megamined success, and an even better example would be marvel movies. This makes revisiting el dorado refreshing and new. 2. Number two is almost the complete opposite to refreshing. Because I and many others watched this movie as a child it provides nostalgia and reminds me of simpler times, the upbeat quipy nature also plays into this euphoric feeling and I know I will be watching this hidden gem again and again and again.
I really enjoyed the movie as a kid and I definitely had a crush on Miguel. (I didn't understand the potential gay/bisexual references until years later.) Watching it as an adult, I still enjoy it a lot, but I do wish the film went deeper into Chel's backstory and the chief's backstory. He sees through Miguel and Julio's schemes but he accepts them regardless. I'd love to know why.
Have you seen Sammy's adventurous,it's a decent movie about turtles and environmental pollution And would love to see a review on Pocahontas the first and second one, love that movie❣️
Unfortunately, 2D animated weren’t doing well at the box office at that time. After Sinbad:Legend of the Seven Seas bombed at the box office, Jefferey Katzenberg said he believed that the days of telling hand-drawn animated films were “likely a thing of the past”. Btw, Dreamworks actually made 5 2D animated movies.
Wow, I didn't know this movie was so poorly received when it came out. I watched it in theaters with a friend and I thought it was great! Throughout the years, I've thought back in moments from it just at random - like when they're playing that game with the ball and Chel is trying to help them out, "the hip! The hip!" or when they have their fight where one was being the con artist still but the other was being serious. Or how shocked I was to see animated butts, lol. This story stayed with me more than a lot of classic Disney films, probably because it was unexpected for its time. I should watch it again now as an adult...
The soundtrack is awesome and I loved how it fit into the mold of the hope and Crosby road pictures. Kenneth beans ugh said if they add the word darling after each sentence it would become a gay love story
The Road to El Dorado is one of my favorite 2D movies of all time. Yah, it can be a little time deaf by the standards of today, but it's still more unique with its story than Turning Red
...when I heard that the ost was forgettable I was like: Ok then I am not listening to most of this movies songs and osts like Chels theme just sayn🙄🙄🙄
I don't disagree that yeah...decent point with the white men saving the natives but also...as a Bolivian with a good chunk of Andean indigenous heritage (not the same as Mayan or Aztec as the movie draws inspiration from, I know, but indigenous nonetheless) I've never cared about that stuff as long as the movie is entertaining, which El Dorado definitely is
Same here! I didn’t care for the white men saving natives trope. Because you have the high priestess native in the film trying to destroy his own people.
While it was nice to look at, it wasn't very character-driven; there's no explanation/backstory thar dives into the character psyches (why Chel wants to leave, Miguel's aching for attention, Tulio being cynical, etc.)
I love this film. Yes, there are aspects that could've been better, but I still love it. I don't get why people say the animation is bad, it really isn't

Same. I even have it on DVD and have watched over and over God knows how many times.😊😊😊🤩🤩🤩😎😎😎🔥🔥🔥👍👍👍
@@sabitazizov3440 I have the Emperor’s New Groove on DVD. I don’t have the Road to El Dorado on DVD.

I bet ya that if movies like this one and Emperor’s New Groove were re-released in this day & age, they would do very well.
I love this movie and it is one if my favorites to this day.

It's good you made the video for this movie!! ❤😊
A movie AHEAD of it's time.
It's a movie that basically an animated take on the "Road to" movies staring Bing Crosby and Bob Hope from the 1940s.
all I can say is that it's great that the movie gets the love it deserves. Had this movie on dvd as a kid and to this day love it. same for the music video with Elton John.

"Both?"
"Both?"
"Both. Both is good."
Is it the time for my favorites, Sinbad and Atlantis?
The only thing is strange is the end, there go home empty handed but there have fun to find there next adventure
The soundtrack slaps HARD!
I watched El Dorado before it was cool, and honestly I completely agree, it's underrated, not enough people have seen it, and if people would bother to spend an hour and a half to watch a movie as golden as this, they'd see it didn't get the attention it deserves
one of my childhood favorites I loved it still do
I think they should have had a spin off series it’ll probably be better than the one emperors new groove had 😲
I liked the soundtrack
loved it and definitely deserved better, is not my favorite animated movie but is in the top 10 and one i did watch multiple times and find myself remembering from time to time

I don’t know why dreamworks stopped making hand drawn films all four of them are awesome

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood movie
Do you plan on doing a discussion on any of the Looney Tunes films, like Space Jam and Looney Tunes: Back in Action?
Hm, interesting, very interesting.
I LOVED it & still do!! Despite it, yeah, being racially insensitive . . . 😊❤
While it was nice to look at, it wasn't very character-driven; there's no explanation/backstory thar dives into the character psyches (why Chel wants to leave, Miguel's aching for attention, Tulio being cynical, etc.)
Please make a video about Evolution. I wanna hear your thoughts about that shitass episode.
Miraculous ladybug and cat noir season 5 episode 1 is out now but I wish we new when the English version is coming out
