RebelTaxi Please review classic Ben 10! Such an underrated series with great art, music designs and characters. It doesn't get much attention nowadays and I'm interested in your thoughts on it
I love how The Road to El Dorado gave equal amounts of Fanservice to the male and female characters. There’s all the shots of Chel’s massive butt, and Miguel and Tulio get shirtless scenes.
YES YES I AGREE ! It's one of my favourite films and some of the best animation to exist Edit: And the music from the score to the musical numbers is a favourite soundtrack of mine and is epic in every way
But Spirit at least made its money back, the other two are dead in the eyes of the studio. There was even an interview where Katzenberg (the biggest pusher of 2D at the time) that said Spirit was their last 2D movie, when in fact it was Sinbad. Kinda like how Disney refuses to acknowledge The Black Cauldron as their first film with CG animation, giving that honor to the next one, The Great Mouse Detective.
@@Igorcastrochucre But Sinbad is amazing, is weird how dark that movie is because the first time I saw 8t was on RUclips and I saw it because 1. It was in Spanish (and with a really good VA) and 2. Because it was frequently on my recommendations for a long time.
I'd be afraid for them too. The Spirit reboot looks aimed at really young kids and it looks really different from the original movie. I dont want The Road To El Dorado ruined.
@@Igorcastrochucre True, but Road to El Dorado has developed a following over the years, and today there's more of an audience for animated programs aimed at older audiences. I think a series has potential.
He didn’t want to hate his brother but they were enemies because of their beliefs. It’s not the same hate that we expect it’s a more complicated hate that makes us hate ourselves .
@Mystical Luna Melody exactly, it’s a hate for what he’s doing but not the actually person. Like when someone close to you decides to do hard drugs and ruins their life, you love them with all your heart but hate what they are doing. I wish there was a word for that kind of relationship
Man, imagine the world where DreamWorks kept that "We make the animated movies Disney won't" aspect to them. I'd love if it they put out more serious animated movies, the American market is utterly starved for major films like that. Not explicitly sexual or gratuitously violent or anything like that, but more of a "We're telling serious stories and we're not promising a comedy here" kind of vibe.
I always imagine they make movies about classic literature like Les Miserables and Macbeth or grand folk adventures like Journey to the West and other Arabian Nights stories. Those would be perfect for Dreamworks to raise the Bar on Animation
Jeffrey Katzenberg said in making of Sinbad that they are trying to make these films for "adults and the adult in every child" and I think that sums up the tone of some of there earlier work pretty well.
@@jalopy3574 Agreed, I also thought that with Prince of Egypt and Joseph King of Dreams it would be interesting for them to adapt more Bible stories and see what they do with them.
Mine too bro one of the best 2D flims ever from any major studio The Price Of Egypt is so good Val Klimar does a great job as Moese and God. Is Joseph a prequel to The Prince of Egypt?
I actually hate the fact that I mostly watched Disney movies as a kid, the only Dreamworks movies I watched were Shrek, Shark Tale and Kung Fu Panda. Dreamworks is WAYY better than Disney imo.
It really is a tragedy that Dreamworks didn't continue producing traditionally animated films. Every single one of them that were made were, at minimum, good. Besides, the quality of the animation is f***ing astounding. Disney is fantastic at character animation and designs and all, but the visuals of 2D Dreamworks films are unbelievable.
Also 2000s Disney had some pretty great 2D films like Treasure Planet, Lilo and Stitch, The Emperor’s Mew Groove. Sadly they all failed at the box office.
Fun fact: From the Joseph Movie. The Reason why Slavery ain't bad compare to Moses story, was because the two Take place 400 years Apart. Plus, the Pharaoh in the Joseph story had a Very Great and Better Pharaoh. The Pharaoh wasn't Ruthless and Cold compare to other Pharaoh throughout Acient Egypt.
@@whodatninja439 i may be wrong. During the Joseph Period, The Hebrews and the other slaves were turned into workers and farmlands. But when a new Pharrioh arrives they just switch them to become slaves?
Basically, there's a famine, and since Joseph's visions allow Pharaoh to stockpile food, he makes a deal with his people that he'll give them food, if they become his slaves. When Joseph's family comes to Egypt for food, they get the same deal, but since Pharaoh likes Joseph so much, he gives them the province of Goshen, and lets them herd their sheep in peace. But the Egyptians consider the Hebrews to be inferior, so successive Pharaohs get anxious when they grow in numbers. First, they force them to do hard labor, and then, when they get even more numerous, they start killing their babies. So, technically, they were slaves the whole time, but they weren't treated like slaves until later. On the other hand, since everyone was a slave, it might be more accurate to think of it as despotism than slavery.
Ancient Hebrew didn’t, but they technically had Levantine as vassals at the time. Though one archaeological finding show that it might be other way around since there were reports of a Semitic tribe besides Seapeople rolling through Levantine at tail end of Bronze Age. Also let’s blame Herodotus and Bible for that.
*Fun fact:* Spirit was going to be a much darker film than it ended up being. The titular horse would have been captured, tamed, and then passed around to gradually worse owners until he ends up in a coal mine where he and a few other horses get trapped and slowly die, never seeing their homeland again. Yes... *Really.* Apparently it was so grim that the filmmakers started referring to it as "Schindler's Horse."
@@RockerMicke1 If they portray American Slavery in the same way they did here; that director/writer will get cancelled faster than the Clerks animated series
Probably because My Little Pony was such a huge thing for the whole last decade. And not just with young girls. Of course, studio head logic "they both have horses so that means they'll be equally successful!" And the creatives are facepalming.
The reboot is such a travesty. Like not to sound like a boomer or anything, but watching Spirit on the VHS was such an experience. And now the ending of that movie is completely undone. Why would they use the horse from Spirit? Why wouldn't they give the horse a different name and design. Also how tf is that horse still alive.
Well, it’s probably because Spirit was a financial success, but El Dorado and Sinbad were both unfortunately financial failures, so dreamworks probably thought it wouldn be an unnecessary idea to do so, although I do wish they both had shows. El Dorado is my favorite dreamworks movie as well.
especially since the point of the movie was that Spirit wanted to be free. Sure in the show people say it's Spirit son or something (since spirit in the show has differences from the og spirit) but why make his name the same?
I got to admit , when it came to DreamWorks 2d Animated films they felt a lot more unique and creative then what Disney had during the time , so it's kind of sad they never got to chance to convey thier true potential.
While writing about Prince of Edgypt, In my head I kept thinking "The 10 Koopmanments" because of that Mario episode. I couldn't remember the ep but that title just stuck with me.
@Milestonecomics Pretty much, plus professional reviewers who had no qualms in review bombing the movie and making it sound bad to the general public, more than likely fed from Disney's pocket.
Same reason as spirit. Just a different political group. Two retarded groups for 2 movie bombings. A movie shouldn’t be influenced by its characters race, ethnicity, ect. It’s not a fucking philosophical masterpiece it’s a movie
"Maybe that's a sign that people are ready for more 2D" To us, most likely. But to the studios especially Disney, that means "make more live action remakes".
Wow that angry Spirit review sure was something, whoever wrote that scares me. I’m glad you mentioned how goddamn hard it is to animate horses because good lord does that movie impress me every time I watch it, horses are like impossible man.
@@toenailclippings it was mostly a joke, considering the anime's popularity it's likely that we will eventually lol. But animators from david pro have said that sbr will be tough to animate due to the horses.
To be fair. That is the story of Joseph. Basically he has a great childhood, then gets sold into slavery, then he becomes good friends with the guy he was sold to, then he gets accused of sexually assaulting his masters wife and gets thrown in jail, then he becomes friends with the jailer and because he can read peoples dreams he becomes the second of command in the kingdom. It’s a done to hokey in Joseph king of Dreams but the story is supposed to be faith through constant roadblocks in your life
Along with they joesph happened BEFORE Moses. IIRC, Egypt was actually not a bad place for slavery and such up until they started slaughtering Hebrews before they were getting large in numbers (why they killed babies)
Yeah, albeit I think there's better ways to portray roadblocks in a harsh life, cause the movie kiiind of glorifies the whole slave-master situation with those more cheerful segments If it was something more as trying to find the good in bad, rather than gifted in a good place, I feel the story could be stronger

Spirit and The Prince of Egypt are underrated masterpieces, and that's summary everything!
Yeah. I think The Road to El Dorado was also an underrated masterpiece considering that El Dorado is one of my favorite movies. Prince of Egypt and Spirit were also great movies and its something very unique compared to Disney.

@@paramountworld01 sure! I like Road to Eldorado too, and its a good movie, really good, especially the music. What I think about all these films is that they were in the transition period between the traditional and the computer animation. They are good, but not for their time.
Dreamworks: Horses are something that has confused many artist for generations. Berserk 2010: SEE! Its not our fault we couldn't animate horses properly Berserk 1997: AM I A JOKE TO YOU?
As someone who has studied the treatment of horses through the years and how cultures respected them, the team that worked of spirit did its research, the colonist treated them exactly how they treated their horses and how they thought they were just tools, and how the native Americans treated their horses
Remember white colonist write for whitewhashing crap. I still remember the whitewhashed crap they tell me at school about the colonist and colonism. Is so so so horrible that indeed can make a comparation with Hitler and jews. And I'm from the Caribbean, Antillas Mayores where our indigenous didin't practice canibalism and sacrifice. The aztecs did, amd still is horrible what they did to them, imagine doing nothing like that and being rape, slaved kill etc for nothing but gold by greedy people.
@@princesslegarreta913 I think you're mistaking European Colonial history for all of human history. Subjugation and mistreatment of a conquered people is very common throughout all of human history, in fact many Native tribes did it to a lot of weaker and less militaristic tribes. I honestly would be more surprised if the colonists were completely peaceful after coming across warring tribes with technology that is so much more archaic than their own. There were many colonists (mostly in the North) that had amicable relationships with certain tribes and would trade with them, mostly modern weapons and tech that would aid those tribes in their wars with other tribes. It was only a matter of time that the Europeans saw the lack of a central power or nationality among the 100s of Natives tribes and decided that their best option would be fighting for themselves. Of course, this is not a justification of horrific behavior and actions committed by the colonists, but there's nothing incredibly unique about the treatment of Native Americans relative to human history. I mean, the Romans treated the Germanic peoples the exact same way. They created uneven alliances, dealt with tribal conflicts, conducted trade and tributes, genocided, called them Barbarians as a term to express their "savagry," and they, of course, fucking enslaved them. It was what we call early chattel slavery. As I said before, I'd be way more surprised if the European colonists had treated the Native Americans with intense altruism.
@@SefniVinalonn No, our islands tribes where peaceful people who offer european food, shelter and parties of welcome and teaching. Wile they write the defences and how easy was going to be slave them. Is literally all in the Crónicas. I don’t know the rest of the tribes from añl around the globe but in our territory the european where Jerks who killed, slaved, rape and trae women, kids and men. 1492 is where they get to the first caribbean island. Since then they make the live of the people a living hell. Bartolomé de las Casas say it all in his diaries, how Columbus treated the taino people. How he killed any animal who where close to eat and the list of crimes he comint. In fact back in Spain he was put in jail. Even when the people try to do aliences the european broke them. Cacique Yuisa, she is better know for her action to marry spanish man to get people among spanish amd the arawaks but the spanish broke the alience. Is one of the last caciques.
@@princesslegarreta913 I wasn't saying all Native tribes were violent and war prone. But a huge number were and that is why I'm not shocked the Europeans decided to conquer. I mean shit, if I saw a bunch of scattered tribes lacking national cohesion, I would most certainly wonder about how easily they could be systematically defeated. The Germanic tribes were only able to repel Rome when they were joined together by Arminius and represented a collective nation more so. But when they were separate tribes, they were at Rome's dominion.
Spirit is extremely well-loved among Indigenous people. Disney gave us Pocahontas, which none of us cared about or looked up to, but Dreamworks gave us Spirit, who could easily be seen as a stand-in for Native Americans. Growing up on the Navajo Nation, Spirit reminded me a lot of my own home and the story of my people. Plus we grew up with horses and livestock and revere animals like eagles, which Spirit is also very close to. We too know what it's like to be taken from our home and families and forced to assimilate into American society. I remember admiring his resiliency. And the scene where they cut his hair is also very symbolic, as long hair is considered sacred in many tribes. Plus, they portrayed the Lakota in a positive light. Practically everything was similar to the way I saw my people, my home, and our history. Every Navajo home had Spirit on VHS and every Navajo kid loved Spirit. It's still one of my favorite movies to this day.
Well, I mean, Pocahontas is trash regardless of the terrible Native representation, so that isn't a super high bar to clear, but yeah, Spirit is amazing
I feel like DreamWorks were delt a rough hand with this. Slavery Bad is an integral part of Moses's story. Meanwhile the Bible says Joseph was sold into slavery, but despite that he made the most of his situation and became a respected member of the household. Rising from nothing is a recurring theme in his story.
It’s been a while since I’ve been in church but I can also add that Exodus emphasizes that all of Jacob(Israel)’s descendants were enslaved in the time of Moses specifically because they are God’s chosen people. Meanwhile Joseph is one of Jacob’s 12 sons, God’s chosen people are just getting started. Genesis implies that Egypt’s slaves in the time of Joseph are just a bunch of randos from all over the place so it doesn’t matter nearly as much to the story.
@Quick Dry What? The Road to El Dorado is not very historically accurate. The part about equating the guys to nazis stumbling upon a hidden jewish city was dumb though.
It's mostly because Joseph comes first and is friends with the Pharaoh,so things go smoothly and they're rewarded well, but centuries later the hebrew population grows and prospers so much the Egyptians start to worry they'll lose their country,so they become harsher and harsher on them to the point of them really becoming slaves and then we get to Prince of Egypt's dystopian future
The Road to El Dorado might not be the most historically accurate and culturally authentic movie out there. But I know that I would never have gotten seriously interested in the history and cultures of Pre-Columbian American civilizations without watching it and marvelling at the magnificent location they created.
It's kind of creepy that the little girl in the "Prince of Egypt" VHS release commercial said, "My favorite part is the baby in the water." She should have said, "The baby floating in the water" cause it makes it sound like she's talking about the nightmare scene when the babies are drowned in the Nile
I'm always a sucker for 2D animated movies not done by Disney, and I always loved the style of Dreamworks' 2D movies. It's a huge shame that the CGI boom put an end to all of this. And did I hear MK: Deception music at 4:49? You always did have some fantastic taste Pan.
I think that´s because he could make the things he always wanted to make but Michael Eisner never give him green light, but a lot of Disney people go to Dreamworks to follow Jeffrey.
Prince of Egypt was a true epic. Even more than the adventure driven stories like Sinbad and El Dorado. Even tho Joseph wasn't the success they'd hoped it'd be I feel like they jumped ship too soon with the more serious narratives. You could already go to disney for action adventure comedy's but stories like Prince of Egypt just weren't happening. Didn't even have to be a religious story. Just a narrative with the same depth and stakes. As much as Like dreamworks 2d movies and they progressively feel more and more watered down
IKR? They easily could have done some more semi-historical type movies adapting stories like the Odyssey or some Norse mythology. Its a shame they stopped their serious works after one failed attempt.
Idunno, despite its later added comedy bent, El Dorado still feels somewhat like a proper passion project in writing, animation (which feels like the one aspect about the dreamworks 2D-Film that held its base standard during all that time) and voice performances. but from that film onward I'm inclined to agree
I scoffed at the shape of the whale in the wall of water till I learned whale bones were found in an ancient Roman settlement in that part of the world. They processed whale meat there.
8:35 Actually, fun fact: Kenneth Branagh (Miguel) and Kevin Kline (Tulio) DID record plenty of dialogue in the same room. They actually recorded the sword fight by fighting one another with pool noodles (I think? Either that or plastic swords).
It was actually Pendleton Ward himself who asked James Baxter to animate the horse when he was at CalArts. This is the reason he asked james to animate the horse for him in adventure time.
"This is some primo DeviantArt AMV furrybait" Dude, did we watch the same movie? I don't remember anything like th- *You Can't Take Me starts playing* Oh. Ohhhhh...
Rebel Taxi is thinking too much about furries. I don’t count it at all. I don’t understand why he called those songs corny and furry bait those songs are classics!😞
@@andreasmeelie1889 It's not to do with the quality of the songs. The tone and the scenes they were set to (along with the fact that they were about animals given human emotions and expressions) just combine into a perfect storm of vaguely furry things.
If any of you haven't seen Prince Of Egypt, Road To El Dorado or Joseph, King Of Dreams; do yourself a favor and go watch them. The movies are flipping AWESOME
Joseph's parents did make him what looks like a robe, but if you went to Parochial school, you would know that it's called "the coat of many colors". Even though it looks like it's just made to have a few colors, all supposed to stand out. Also, the point of Joseph King of Dreams' tone shift was because slave trades were prominent, but not as massive as the enslavement of the Hebrews in Exodus. Pontifar wanted a slave, but he's equally not violent or abusive to Joseph like in the biblical story. And later on, there was fear from the pharaoh Seti, that the Hebrews would take over Egypt, so he... well, you remember the Prince of Egypt. And yeah. Spirit is far better than Home On the Range.
@@afoolishfopdoodle3284 I don’t get why they simply treated people as there own? Because eventually the population of Jewish and Egyptian people would be hard to tell apart. I mean all those areas under the caliphate don’t identify as Sumerian or Egyptian do they? (ethnically atleast)
Katzenberg's unending rivalry with Disney aside. I felt DreamWorks could've still pushed through with 2D Animation in ways Disney didn't. If only Sinbad just did well enough.
YOU GUYS GOTTA CALM DOWN WITH THIS WHOLE "Katzenberg hates Dinsey" It's not because everyone repeats it that it's true. Just like people are repeating that Shrek is a Disney spoof, while writers of the movie, Ted Eliott and Terry Rossio (who wrote Disney's Aladdin) clearly said that they never intended to poke fun at Disney. Katzenberg probably doesn't even care about what Disney was doing at the time since they were making absolutely shitty movies in the 2000
When it came to that Prince of Egypt VHS advertising, you can tell that the entire family didn't even watch past the first 20 minutes of the film. Also the parents may not have seen all the way through the film and the little girl talked like she enjoyed it without realizing that there was allot of death in the film. This is what you call classic Christian family advertising from the 90s.
Just some clarification from the Moses and Joseph movies: Joseph came before Moses, and during Joseph’s time, slavery wasn’t near as bad as in Moses’ time. The reason for this is because Joseph and his family(the Israelites) all moved to Egypt, and over the generations, they multiplied significantly. The pharaoh was afraid of the Israelites growing numbers, and that they’d take over Egypt, so he basically made them all slaves. So in Joseph, slaves were more seen as servants and workers, while in Moses, they were actively trying to oppress them by treating them poorly.
It only took ten years to get this lore. (I'm sure there's some joke about a series that took 10 years or longer to get that deep a lore nugget, but I can't really think of one at the moment)
People back in the day were allowed to write the most idiotic mouth breathing reviews and nobody would bat an eye. Now... we’ll nothing has changed much but now we at least shame and bully those people for such idiotic statements.
I love three dimensional villains. One of my favorite parts about The Prince of Egypt is that you can actually sympathize with Ramses over his motivations while also understanding that what he's doing is wrong. In the actual source material of the Bible, literally the only explanation we got as to why he refused to free the slaves was "God hardened his heart" (which gets a very brief mention as a line in one of the songs but otherwise isn't used as an explanation for why he's so coldhearted towards freeing the slaves), which just makes God seem like a villain causing endless pain towards the Egyptians just so he can show off his power a little longer.
“Remember Home on the Range..?” There is actually a reference to Spirit in the movie. One of the cows calls the horse character, “stallion of the Cim-MORON.”
That joke made me so angry as a kid. Spirit was just the best movie of my childhood and to see Home on the Range make that joke... little me was in full nerd range mode
i have agree i feel in love with eris then any other villain of disey she made me go > scary to inpress to damm This woman can beat any god and she take bath in the gelaxy
Dreamworks already has it’s hands full with all the other shows they have on Netflix. They just released the second season of Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts, we’re wondering if they are going to continue The Dragon Prince, and we’re still waiting for that Wizards series that’s part of the connected universe with Trollhunters and 3Below.
Well, they just ended Voltron like a year or two ago. She-ra just ended, the Tales of Arcadia series has it's final arc coming. This means they can have more spaces and an audience who liked the shows DreamWorks made. People have been trying to see if they can get more shows based on DreamWorks movies, so I think it could happen.
For those who didn't understand the joke at 31:14 : David Geffen is the G in DreamWorks SKG, based on the first letter of the names of each 3 founders of the studio : S like Spielberg, K like Katzenberg and G like Geffen. In 2007, Out Magazine put him on its list of the "most powerful gay men and women in America". That reviewer though he was being "clever" about it, like "lolz gay movie made by gay producer". --- With that said, great video Pan. I miss the kind of 2D animated movies Dreamworks used to make; they really had great talents on their side. Even when they were flawed in terms of writing or characters, at least they were quite boundary-pushing in terms of themes, tone and visuals, compared to the usual 2D movies of the time, before total 3D domination. Thank God we have "Klaus" to flex some 2D muscles and show this medium can always push its technical limits.
That review sounded like it was written by someone insanely insecure. That first mates' nipples are literally just circles, not detailed. Also doesn't consider at all that cheeky moments that could bee seen as fanservice could be for the ladies, too, much like how people talking about "the male gaze" ignore that gay women exist.
Pendant que t'es la a parler DreamWoks, tu veux pas aller raisonner ton pote MJ sur Shrek, il a l'air d'absolument detester alors que c'est un putain de bon film.
I know I know, spite and jealousy. But after reading “Disney War” by James Stewart, Eisner is just as much to blame. Katzenberg worked hard and that man deserved better.
That's what I thought too until I learned that Dreamworks' cancelled Larrikins, Mumbai Musical and Me and My Shadow were labeled as tax write offs so Katzenberg could sell Dreamworks to Universal so he could make Quibi. Director Kevin Lima stated his movie (Mumbai) was sabotaged by him, and it somehow not being the first time as he said Katzenberg sabotaged A Goofy Movie too back when he worked at Disney.
@@PrincessX-ke8tj i mean, they do have some special gems like how to train your dragon and shrek, but they’re more focused on dumb kids movies they can profit off of with merchandise
The only thing is that Dreamworks can be somewhat dense for both kids and adults (something that Pixar has actually mastered, to give a different theme and aesop for different people, if you look carefully). Their series for Netflix aren't half bad, tho (the ones produced for Nickelodeon, couldn't care less). Except for the end of Voltron, but Tales of Arcadia is actually really good (having Guillermo del Toro as producer probably helps).
@@PrincessX-ke8tj They tried, and honestly they kinda succeeded. They are tied with Disney Animation Studios and Pixar for the most popular animated studios.
Since I was 4 through 10 when DreamsWorks made those 2D films, and my Grandmother was a SUPER Christian, so I had a camel beanie baby from my Prince of Egypt VHS (legit), I've seen Road to El Dorodo once, 17 years ago, Joseph twice, still own the VHS, saw Spirit once 16 years ago, surprised it got a Netflix cartoon (Then again, every DreamsWorks product gets one these days), and saw Sinbad once, 15 years ago. Well, that was weird since Bible portray Egyptian Pharaoh as evil figure yet portray him as good figure in Joseph's time. Part of me tends to interpret as the symbolism of Levant since Egypt also controlled that region. I mean Egypt also took children of Semitic nobles to Pharaoh's court to become Egyptians.
@@powerist209 it's probably because they were different pharaohs, apparently there were 430 years between Genesis and Exodus. Apparently Necho II was the Pharaoh in a number of Genesis chapters though I can't find any source that says he was the one in genesis 37 (the chapter containing Joseph's story), meanwhile Ramses II is the pharaoh in Exodus. In rewriting this comment and doing quick research the word pharaoh has officially lost all meaning.
I remember Sunday School taking a slavery is wrong, but it got worse over the generations from the time of Joseph to Moses. No clue if that is solid biblical interpenetration or not.
Genesis is packed with time flying by, so it's possible that not only different pharaohs from different regions, but also slavery could've been not as bad. In a Christian perspective, God was protecting Joseph through the time of being as a slave and with God providing visions to Joseph, it helped him get up in a higher position and to make the slavery not as bad... I think? XD Plus looking at the beginning of Exodus, literally the next Pharaoh, who didn't know about Joseph, was like "You know what, there's too many Hebrews around here. Let's kill them/put them into slavery" and literally screwed up the system that Joseph set up. Might not be totally accurate since it's been a while I've read Genesis XD
Extinctanimals22 that’s because the Bible says that the Jews were originally invited to Egypt as honored immigrants, as Joseph interpreted the pharaoh’s dream. However, after that pharaoh died, his successor forgot all of what Joseph did and did the pro-gamer move of enslaving all of the Jews in Egypt, which lead to God telling Moses to free them.
11:52 I've actually read Elton John's autobiography and he does talk a little bit about his experience and thoughts working on The Lion King, and how he ended up working on El Dorado. He thoroughly enjoyed making a soundtrack for an animated film as it was a different experience from what he was used to, and was actually offered a deal (As he says: "for a ridiculous amount of money") by Disney to develop more films, tv shows, and books (there were talks of a theme park as well which weirded him out). However he turned down the deal because he had given his word to Katzenberg to work on another film with him. That other film ended up being El Dorado :) Also Tim Rice (who Elton worked with on both The Lion King and El Dorado) was actually the one who initially invited Elton to work on the Lion King !
TBF Quibi could've done a lot better if it wasn't stuck to a phone app (and it still is right now for some asinine reason) but just in concept it was flawed from the beginning
It’s not that he doesn’t like them he’s saying the effect doesn’t look good in the film. Probably because the technology was newer then compared to Chowder.
It’s because that effect was used in a stylish way that added to the whole look of the show in chowder. In joseph prince of dreams, it only makes the scenes look cheap.
Sinbad is one of my absolute favorite movies, not just animated ones. The reason they describe her as Princess might be because she is to be engaged to a Prince, which makes her a soon-to-be Princess.

I remember. I thought it was kind of cool that we got to hear Spirit narrate like it was a book even though he didn't talk in-universe. On the other hand, I could see how it could be totally redundant if I rewatched it.
I had the opposite effect, where I could have sworn the animals did talk in that movie. Turns out the animation was just really good at expressing and the inner monolouging just confused the fuck out of my memory.
David Geffen is the "G" in "Dreamworks SKG", the other two being Spielberg and Katzenberg. He's also the first openly gay billionaire, came out in 1980.

It's awful, but I read that the characters were apparently made white because the film was in production around the time of 9/11, and the filmmakers were wary of releasing a film with Arab leads into that climate... sigh
I'm Egyptian and watching Sinbad they didn't strike me as Middle Eastern at all. None of the characters had a single curl in their hair, it was all soft and flowy- which sounds silly, there are middle Eastern people who have hair like that but certainly not all of us as portrayed in the movie. 2D animation is everywhere if you look, it's just not in theatres. CG keeps getting better, so I don't think we're missing out on too much, but it would be nice if disney released a modern 2D film just for a throwback!
@@captainbarbossa289 true but movies like Spiderverse and Klaus are experimenting further on 2d. It's possible also that nostalgia for hand drawn might come back since people prefer hand drawn Lion King to CGI lion king

If only there were more animated dramas like this film! This film doesn´t get enough attention, and it should be talked about in the same vein as classic epics like Lawerence of Arabia or even The Ten Commandments but for animation.
Instead of Joseph, they should've told the story of David ( the one that killed Goliath) but for those who read the Bible his life after that was far more interesting, a criminal And a king. It would have been a more than worthy follow-up to The Prince of Egypt.

To the point of Spirit "brushing the ugly parts of history under the rug," one interpretation I remember reading which I really like is that you're SUPPOSED to know that colonization is imminent and that Spirit's happy ending isn't "happily ever after" so much as a brief repose before history inevitably takes it's course. If Spirit can somehow get a Netflix comeback a decade after the fact, there's no reason El Dorado can't too lol

Man, imagine the world where DreamWorks kept that "We make the animated movies Disney won't" aspect to them.

Yeah i remember this from history class, it wasn't slaves like we think of, more like workers and farmhands. They were rewarded for their work.
@@whodatninja439 i may be wrong. During the Joseph Period, The Hebrews and the other slaves were turned into workers and farmlands. But when a new Pharrioh arrives they just switch them to become slaves?
So basically power just became corrupt

Since then they make the live of the people a living hell. Bartolomé de las Casas say it all in his diaries, how Columbus treated the taino people. How he killed any animal who where close to eat and the list of crimes he comint. In fact back in Spain he was put in jail.

Joseph King of Dreams: _"Nah, Slavery is all good and peaceful"_
@Eaxl Would you really though?

Hell even now.
Just some clarification from the Moses and Joseph movies:
Joseph came before Moses, and during Joseph’s time, slavery wasn’t near as bad as in Moses’ time.

However he turned down the deal because he had given his word to Katzenberg to work on another film with him. That other film ended up being El Dorado :)
