This was such a good podcast. Steven really hit the head on the nail when he's talking about what it's like to feel almost out of place in America because one world is at home, and the rest of the world is just outside your door, and the two worlds could not be more different.

Since 1992, i've been avoiding trailers. Star Wars has been the hardest. I walk out the theater or do math in my head when any star wars trailer comes on ("Lucasfilm..."), avoid looking at magazines and kids snacks and cereal boxes at the grocery store. It's a chore.

I love going into a film knowing nothing about it, and then being able to experience it for the first time with a packed theater, and it hadn't happened for a long time until I saw "Everything Everywhere All at Once" - it was such an exhilarating experience and only heightened my enjoyment for that film.
If asked whether they want to know how they die, most people nowadays will say "yes, I'll spoil the ending myself"

Went to see Thor Love and Thunder in IMAX on opening weekend, and they played a new trailer for NOPE. While the first trailer was just creepy enough to get me pumped for the film, this new trailer showed WAY too much. New characters are introduced, new plot points are shown, new action sequences are played, new VFX shots...i was really annoyed they thought they needed to give so much away with just a few days before the premiere. Bad form.

Yeah a lot of people have been speculating that this is Jordan's way of subverting expectations by showing things in the trailer that aren't important, to misdirect theories and guesses people have. I'm inclined to agree, because the second trailer shows way too much for it to be an accurate trailer, and I'd give Peele more credit than that.
I had the same reaction. I wanted to close my eyes. That trailer gave away way too much.

We sat through 1000's of trailers in the 70s-80s. It didn't dimmish the film because we didn't see the full movie until way later.

I usually don't watch trailers anymore either, but my girlfriend always insists on watching the trailers first (sometimes immediately before) and it gives away so much of the movie! She also watches everything with subtitles, which I swear pulls me completely out of the experience. I guess that's the difference between people who are too into movies and people who are normal.

@@crazyspace6792 he is underrated in that people like Amy Schumar, Aziz, James Corden, Jimmy Fallon etc… are more well recognised. Steven’s comedic timing and acting ability should make him a global superstar but cause he’s a little low key or maybe cause he’s Asian he’s not. He is a better actor than many comedian actors but he is way less recognised.
Which will happen first? Conan's new show on HBO debuts, or George RR Martin releases Winds of Winter?

These two need their own comedy series, the chemistry between Conan and Steven is something special. Now all I can think of when Conan pronounces Steven's last name is that Steven is thinking silently, "that's not how you pronounce it." While I sort of agree, I personally need to watch trailers to decide whether I want to spend my two hours on watching a movie. There’s far too much content out there nowadays and it’s exhausting to keep track of all the recommendations I’m given. The trailer is what convinces me to watch a movie or show.
For half this clip I thought Jordan Peele directed Top Gun, and was trying to convince myself that I did know that actually.
"Michael", was the first trailer I saw that revealed way too much and since then I've been a half trailer watcher.

I wish that Matt hadn’t taken Conan off topic, as I really wanted to hear what he had to say about the Maverick intro…which is where I think he was going before the interruption (not that the off topic bit wasn’t fun!).
If you listen to the full podcast Conan did finish his thought about the message Tom delivers in the beginning before the movie starts and Conan was commending him for that and helping get people back to the theaters after the long pandemic.

I hate trailers. Nothing worse than sitting in the theatre for 3 hours watching a film you paid $20 to see only to realize that all of the best parts were in a 30 second trailer I saw a year ago. Or the catfishing trailers where they make it seem like a completely different KIND of movie to trick a different audience to come see it... Why? Even Nope... I loved the Teaser, it was perfect, now theres a full trailer out they are pushing on social media and they ruin the teaser in the first second of dialogue. Why????? I hate it. I go to the movies 20 minutes late now to specifically avoid the trailers.
