Star Trek Strange New Worlds Captain Jonathan Archer NX-01 USS Enterprise Warp Beam USS Archer Star Trek Ship Breakdown Explained Развлечения
I think the Archer could be thought of as a sort of precursor to the Runabout. Basically a miniature, short to mid range, Starship for missions where a Shuttle, even a warp capable one, won't cut it but that don't require the resources of a cruiser like the Enterprise.
Considering the mission of the Archer and Archer himself it is more likely, IMO, that the Archer is intended for first contact or other diplomatic missions close to or inside the Federations borders. With the strictures of General Order 1 the Federation would be aware of and monitoring any number of prewarp civilizations inside or very close to their borders but unable to study them very closely or make contact until they develop warp.
The UFP might dispatch a ship of the Archer's class when a warp signature was detected in the hopes of making a peaceful first contact.
But honestly the crew made no sense for the mission so I think this was another example of Kurtzman's writing staff being awful.
@@KenS1267 Agree.
Franz Joseph Schnaubelt (author of the Star Fleet Technical Manual; 1977) was a friend of mine; I interviewed him in the early 1980s for "Enterprise Incidents". His daughter, Karen was thrilled to see the Archer in this episode of SNW (which the NCC number fits right into the SFTM). Most likely designed by my pal, John Eaves (who also designed the NOMAD prop model that I scratch built for Picard 2, EP06)
REALLY should have made this a proper Saladin-class with a crew of 200 - enemy attack was said to be surprisingly powerful if unshielded, so it wouldn't be unexpected if it was damaged bad enough that the remaining crew died from the attack and only the landing party of 3 survived. Net result is the same - only 3 people to rescue - but it doesn't ridiculously scale the ship down so far from the SF Tech Manual.
@PurpleOwlAnimation 3 out of 200 is far below 'skeleton crew' size, and more 'effectively unmanned minimum crew needed while being towed the breakers' scale. It just feels like a weird error forced by production direction that the adversary cannot have killed so many people to make the script work as-pitched.
I was really surprised to find out the ship was so small. I'd love to see it next to a Constitution class just for scale.
Starfleet kitbashing actually makes a lot of sense. It is easier to mass produce only a relatively small number of parts and reuse them for many ship classes rather than make different parts for every ship class.
Excatly. 😁👌
Beat me to it.
Every manufacturer does that.
A few cars get dedicated engines but those generally cost more. Most share parts with other vehicles.
When you have absolutely unlimited resources and the building skill and technology of the 24th century or even the 23rd century you don't have to resort to that type of stuff. It's our limited thinking of now that makes us project that stuff into what it would actually be like in the future. You have replicators and you have thousands of planets out there that are uninhabited or at least don't have intelligent life on them and they're extremely resource rich You have the ability to get those resources anytime you want why not build everything top of the line because you can because it's easy because there's no reason not to The thing I've always disliked about Star Trek and I do love it but the thing I just like is we look at it with our limited understanding of how things can be done and project that onto it
@@glenwaldrop8166 yeah that thinking is 20th century and 21st century people thinking and projecting what we're capable of onto people that have unlimited resources and replicators. Do you really think that they would have to build ships that were compromises or that serve limited roles because they had to make sure that they kept it simple and easy so they can have parts for it? They have access to thousands of planets that have resources they have asteroids comments anything they want to tap into to get these resources and they have replicators that could build everything for them faster than any 3D printer ever could hope for I mean literally instantaneously now this is ridiculous
@@jamesjdm There is no such thing as unlimited resources even in the 23rd and 24th century. Not even in Star Trek. The franchise many times references mining for resources and those mines running dry. That means limited resources.
They simply have so much resources as to never have to worry about poverty and hunger. That is very different to unlimited resources. Also, some resources, such as dilithium crystals and latinum, are still referred to as very rear.
But even when resources are that abundant it is wise to use your resources efficiently and not waste them. That way you can do much more with those resources. If they wasted resources, then they *would* run out of resources to build ships with. Especially when they were pumping ships out especially fast during the period of the Borg threat and the Dominion War.
EDIT 1: Fixed a chunk of text accidentally being deleted when I done a copy and paste while typing this comment.
EDIT 2: Even replicators need resources. The franchise constantly refers to them using raw materials. Those still have to be mined. They don't just magic up stuff out of raw atoms. Atoms have to be in the form of a given element (e.g.: silicon, gold, etc) that have to be mined, extracted, etc.
I teared up when I saw that ship in the 1st episode. Easter eggs give me goose bumps
Always a pleasure to sit in on LT Adam's briefings.
If you're going for a dive in the FASA pool, I'd love to see more about the Larson-class destroyers
Closest thing to a Saladin/Hermes class we will ever get on screen I suppose.
Trying to avoid all spoilers of Strange New Worlds had to jump into this video as NEW ship to delight my eyes, Cheers Lt. Adam enjoyed lot's.
What I'd like to see is starship size comparisons from within each era of Star Trek, as well as comparisons BETWEEN the eras. The Galaxy class size is WAY beyond the Pike/Kirk era Constitution class starships, and such... 😏
Adam you are having TOO MUCH FUN! Keep it up! ;-)
How does this ship operate with only 3 people. No engineers? Who maintains this ship?
Perhaps that was only part of the crew manifest shown in the episode
@@CaptainM792 But they only rescued three people. Maybe it was such a classified mission that they needed to limit the crew and everything else was automated. I know it makes no sense to not have engineers, but I cannot explain it otherwise.
I hope it's Archerite powered. :-)
1:10)It looks like ships identified as destroyers. The number should be NDD 627. A destroyer would have more than 3 in the crew.
1:25)USS Jeronimo(JEROME).
1:56) An USS Constellation(NCC 1017)Class First Flight ship is shown.
That’s good next I want to see a Federation class Deadnaught
I've always like the Apollo class ship if you could do a video on that please.
I'd love to see the actual Archer Class USS Sagittarius from the Vangaurd novels come into Strange New Worlds, maybe do a video on that if you haven't already?
I seem to recall from novels and/or “tech” manuals from the 70s of a “destroyer” class ship with only a saucer and single nacelle. While vessels conceived for space don’t necessary require aerodynamic qualities, ships along the design of the Archer just don’t have the symmetry or esthetics of a Constitution Class star ship (or in some cases much practical application). The only other class design I recall from the 70s fan publications was the “Dreadnaught” class that looked like a Constitution with an additional warp nacelle. It was featured in a TOS novel of the same name. Of course the dreadnaught was featured in “Into Darkness” as an oversized Constitution painted flat black. I think in some regards, ship designers have gotten more realistic in relation to the story lines in the past several years (and with the advent of better computer generated images and other special effects. And that the federation would base its military strategy in time of all out war on exploration vessels along the lines of 18th Century “East Indiamen” (slightly heavier constructed merchant ships with more guns - think the original “Bonhomme Richard”) would have left our dependents speaking Romulan or Klingon….
I like the design. The Archer and the Kelvin Heavy from STO look great with the one warp nanacle.
Cheers Adam. Odd the Irish names, una and o Reilly but not human.
Didn't Gene say that a star ship couldn't fly with a warp nacelle like that?
that was his personal rule but not a rule set in stone, which honestly Im fine with odd number nacelles.
SNW is great in that it seems they're finally getting that we need some sense of continuity between timeframes as an audience to suspend our disbelief. Yeah, it looks newer than the TOS we saw in the 60s, but unlike Discovery, most of it can be handwaved away as the limitations of the TV of the era. Discovery outright uses lots of tech that just doesn't fit in the timeframe it was launched in, "experimental" or not, and every time you see that on screen, it rips you out as a reminder that this is not fitting into the canon you already know from Star Trek. JJverse movies get away with it because they are clear on it being a different timeline, and a "reboot". CBS is adament this IS the prime timeline....in many cases, that doesn't fit. SNW is doing much better with it, despite a few hiccups here and there, and overall it's a great new series I'm having a wonderful time watching each week.
Great work
I’d love to see the Archer come back as an Archer class from the Vanguard series.
1:27 Who glued the Klingon ship onto the saucer?
I seem to have an "Archer class scout ship" model that claims to have been created for the Vanguard series of novels. It has twin nacelles. All good I suppose. My old technical manual from the '70s has two single nacelle ships. Unsurprisingly, neither has an Archer listed.
They need to make a new captains chair game where you can go through all of the original ships and actually touch all the controls just like they did in the one made for computers a virtual tour with games added into it
I'd like to see more about the Intrepid class please.
The USS Archer looks to be a version of the Saladin class starship. In canonical Star Trek, many Saladin Class scouts and destroyers had been constructed. Over time the scout subclass phased out and upgraded to destroyer class, meaning torpedoes were added to the phaser armament. Over decades the Saladin Class ships were retrofitted with a improved more powerful warp nacelle. Shields were strengthened. As time went on it was clear the two warp nacelle starships were superior and Starfleet standardized on that design. It wasn't over yet for the Saladin Class. Future wars and interstellar conflicts forced Starfleet to recommission mothballed Saladins to keep the numbers up.
"Studies by the United Federation of Planets found that two nacelles were the optimum number for creating the most efficient warp field, as well as for vessel control. (TNG reference: Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual)"
Even if you could generate a warp field with one nacelle, it seems to make better sense to have at least two. It's like Navy jets preferring two engines in case one goes out over open water.
I love these techie breakdowns of the starships. I actually listen to them while playing in sto 🤣. I am a f--king 🤓.
You mean the Locknar or Loknar, depending on the spelling as I forget which, of the movie " Heavy Metal " ?
I like your slightly comedic but also very trek loving style
You would have thought they would have give the name Archer a better ship or even class...after what Archer contribution
I'd like to see an episode on the Runabout from DS9.
Locknar class breakdown please!
One of the best Captains in Star Trek history and he only gets a single nacelle exploratory science vessel named after him? He should have had a battle cruiser named after him. A name like Archer….missed opportunity for a wedge or arrow shaped starship like Voyager. Well, at least he gets a Spacedock.
How about the Einstein Class Timeslip Cruiser from beta canon Jackills guide volume 2
Why tf did this ship only have 3 crew members? Who tf sends a huge ship out with 3 only people?
And why wasn't it shot down or destroyed. The shields were down. But they want to shoot at the Enterprise the second they get there.
"Kinda like the Star Trek equivalent of tore jeans" - why I'm here 👌👍
Yes, Relentless Class video. Please.
Okay.. so we have a retconned Hermes \Saladin Class?
Why is there a klingon warbird sitting on the Geronimo?
the chandley class from fasa stst
There was an another uss archer in star trek nemesis.. edit you just mentioned it .
I heard that they lost a warp nacelle to a Frengi in a Dabo game!
Honestly? It looks like the Einstein class (USS Kelvin) from JJ trek.
glad Archer got a ship named after him but did starfleet ever name a ship after zefram cochrane
what about the other uss archer??
The one bollock frolick!
In Archers defence. Archer invented the Federation.
Kit bashing happens in real life with fighter jets . Look at NASA'S dream the F-15 with frontal kennards and vectoring nozzles and the F-16 xl . And the F-20 Tigershark was a F-5 freedom fighter with a single General electric engine from the f18 Hornet.
I don't understand why the entire three-manned crew went down to the planet? Doesn't make much sense if something goes wrong they'd be stuck on a planet surface without a means to return to the ship.
Adam you sound like Sebastian Gorka
👍👍👍❤❤❤
Start trek is saw cool I am saw happy everyday
See... So you think those bad one liners are left unheard...
Seems you have a hidden video we should be seeing "mixing dark matter and alcohol" for that latest in science and discovery!
Let's just say that I accidentally destroyed the ship's galley with a quantum singularity, and leave it at that. :p
@@xedanis101 Destroy - Rearrange - Send into the farthest reaches of the galaxy (or simply use that as the mental belief!)... Still sounds like your holding out on the good/fun stuff! Lmfao... Hello, by the way!
Omg! I'd feel really bad for anyone that had to command such a ship. Oh well, Some ships suffer from ongoing health conditions. But clearly, This ship suffers from malnutrition!
Not a bad video but you lost me after you said Archer is greedy.
The character Archer was never greedy and in fact he normally wouldn't take lead unless someone pushed him into it. It is most likely that enough of the species in the federation encouraged Archer to become president. As for a name being named after him that generally is not an individual's choice that is a group of individuals that decided it was appropriate to name a planet called Archer hence not making him greedy.
Was a little joke ;)
Ships with one warp nacelle just angers me. lol
I just don’t understand the bizarre center of inertia problem. It seems like all Star Trek ships would spin in circles really fast.
Selective application of inertia dampers to relocate the center of inertia?
Dont forget all them schools renamed after him lol
I'd hardly call 25% different Star Trek a grace to our screens..
IMHO....it was badly rendered/drawn...and badly thought out....And Yet..I'm sure Eaglemoss will make one for the Trek Collection or what ever they're calling it.
The Archer's commander : "Hey, here's a planet we know Nothing about it or its people, governments, etc. except they have a Warp Signature...Let's ALL beam down, so if we get into any unforeseen situation, No One will be able to help us."
Later.....
The Archer's commander : "Surprise...an unforeseen situation appears and now there's no one to help or call for help. We're doomed...Unless...my captain is talked out of his funk and my other ship is fully repaired enough to come here before they murder us."
Pike to the Engineering team : "We need the Enterprise, Now. Lives depend on it."
Engineer : "Sorry...we've still have some vital parts on back order. Isn't there another starship available or closer"
Pike : "No...Enterprise is the only ship in the quadrant."
The Archer Crew : "Gack!"
Won't get an Eaglemoss model now.
Sincerely I never liked ships with more or less than two nacelles like has Enterprise NCC 1701 and sucessors
The fact that 3 people can crew it made no sense. The ship looked big enough on screen to have a crew of at least 60. To make it worse, all 3 people beamed down to a planet with an unknown race.
Star Trek has always had this weird fascination with bypassing what we might call “Delegation”… having the command crew beam down into whatever. Sure, we understand that they are the “main cast” and that the show revolves around them, but agreed, it’s highly unrealistic for them to do the 20th century equivalent of having a fleet admiral lead every one of their fleets major naval engagements by rowing a dinghy out in front and in between the two groups of combatants ..
🙂👍🏽🖖🏽📽
🖖🏽
2224 Hermes Class??..... Thats a basic Gagarin, or Asia, Class saucer on a "single pillar", beam mounted, single-nacelled PB-series circumferential warp engine, the PB-2. This fits NO EXISTING TIMELINE I KNOW
Hey look a Saladin class destroyer
I have a car named USS Archer
Not a fan of the single nacelles.
I'm sorry but this ship looks like they were going to build a constitution class and ran out of some of the parts and as joke put together what they did have!
How come the Deck 1 viewing screen is panoramic compared to the constilation class kirks ship?
Super widescreen. Super high def. Probably 64k by this time.
Uh,isn't Rebecca Romijn number 1 on SNW?
Very Ugly. I've always hated this particular design. at best Archer Deserves to be Constitution class in that Era. in fact i think the Archer should be held to the highest level. Jonathan was the first captain to get out there. He's saved the Earth from the time wars/ Xindi. Romulan expansion threat. Scott deserves so much more credit. personal opinion i think the entire crew should get ships named after them. USS.SATO. USS.TRIP. USS.MALCOM USS TRAVIS.
. they were the first ;-; so i get emotional.
These flying saucers with an engine attached are the worst designs I've ever seen in Star Trek. The aesthetics are terrible The idea is terrible and they make absolutely no sense at all. Why build something like this? You have hundreds of planets that are part of the federation and there are thousands of planets out there that you can reach that are uninhabited that are resource rich and so you basically have an unlimited amount of resources which means you should be stamping out top of the line incredible ships constantly without ever having to resort to building something that is clearly a compromise between function and ability
very disappointing video. you show more enterprise photos than archer photos.
Let us know where to get more Archer content ;)
- Jack
I like the new series but the writing is a little campy or unprofessional. It seems the crew’s behavior is very un military.
Jonathan Archer, THE most immoral, unethical captain of the Star Trek Enterprise.. To hell with that one.
Beta cannon ...
Ugliest, most poorly designed ship I have ever seen in Trek. Right ahead of the Kelvin.
Do yourself a favour. Never mention that other show again. its an abomination to the franchise. I am not talking about "Enterprise"or "Strange New Worlds" but the other show.
Horrible design.
Its ugly
There is only one ship that is beautiful and kicks ass and do you think we will ever get to see it on a regular basis on t.v. or in movies of course not!! that ship is the Promethius.Compared to Promethius every other starship in the federation is just a balony sandwich.
