Absolutely true. In real life this is the longest "serving" Enterprise and she deserves the title. The original was onscreen for 3 seasons, the refit was around for 6 films, the E was only on screen for 3 movies and the D was onscreen for 7 years and one movie. May she long be remembered as the largest and classiest.

30 years later and still the most majestic, regal and elegant ship in all starfleet history. The gentle lines and futuristic curves just make it look like one seamless piece of engineering marvel. It also visually represents the epitome of starfleet and Roddenberry's vision: a hopeful, optimistic, & utopian future for humanity. Considering how long ago TNG came out, I'm disappointed in the other starship designs since then. There was a kind of majesty and elegance to the design of D that hasn't been duplicated since.

Indeed. Watched season 3 with family, and my brother and I went all 'Turn the lights on!' when they finally stepped into the bridge XD A lot of the newer ships are so dark and gloomy to let the rest of the lights do some work. It's not bad, but it takes away from the optimism that was implied even in the aesthetics of the D' s bridge.

The Enterprise-D tells a lot about where humanity is after 75 years from the original series. First, the design of it screams of new engineering concepts, perhaps learned from alien races who joined the Federation. The organic flow of its lines describes a reason why the ship moves faster through space. Then on the inside, it feels like you’re on a cruise liner with all the luxurious that goes along with it. You have families which states a new trust in the galaxy they travel through. It indicates a more peaceful period. The bridge being so open with much fewer control panels indicates technology doesn’t have to be at your fingertips as much and that the ship itself does not need as many crewmen to keep it operational. Personal space is important on this ship with the Captain having his own office off the side of the bridge. Crew quarters are larger. Holodecks to allow people to be creative and escape into their creations. There is a large forward lounge to have people meet and talk or just hang out looking at the stars. If I were to explore space, that’s the ship I’d want to do it in. It feels like a place of learning and introspection. Perfect for writers to type out drama. I wish they’d go back to that type of creative style again. The dark brooding sets are scary and it makes one fearful of whats around a corner. That’s more mirror universe like than Roddenberry’s idea of an evolved humanity.

Finally you forgot the USS Venture the enhanced Galaxy class ship with added phasers on the nacelles that docked at DS9 at the end of Way of the Warrior episode ( the USS Magellan is also believed to be a Galaxy class as she is named along side the Venture by Sisko in Favour the Bold episode ) also no other Galaxy class ships were lost to the Dominion in DS9 after the USS Odyssey. Probsbly someone already said it, but: the stardrive section did not have a third, forward facing torpedo launcher. It had an additional forward-facing phaserbank. The saucer section was the one with the third torpedo launcher that became operational only after separation, but it was facing aft. Why? The stardrive section already had the two torpedo launchers (one fore, one aft) that would be used even if the ship wasn't separated. Upon separation, the saucer section would be left with none, if these were the only two launchers. So a third launcher is installed in the docking cradle holding the stardrive section in normal combined flight mode which would only be exposed to space if the ship separated.
Think of it as an extra poop chute revealed only when the ship dropped its pants.

The only argument I would make about the Constitution separation is that it was ONLY an emergency procedure, acting as a life-raft, allowing for it to safely crash land on a planet. Unlike the Galaxy class, it couldn't reattach itself, and required a shipyard to properly reconnect. It is a long-standing part of the specifications. You even claim we "never" see it on screen and then bring up this requirement when it was finally shown? The Galaxy is clearly the superior vessel, with the first (but not last) able to separate and reattach on a whim, but that doesn't mean we just ignore what we knew and finally saw.
Like Boba-Fett's knee-rockets, it was something we saw and were excited to finally see acknowledged.

  • @slightlyevolved

12:38 - You're not completely wrong... While it was said that other ships, like the OG 1701 could separate, I seem to recall that the big deal with the Galaxy Class separation was that it was the first one that could also reassemble without the help of a starbase. I don't recall where I read this from, but it's a very clear memory for some reason. The old ships had to tractor the saucer section back to have it externally reconnected.
Maybe someone else can fill in the blank on where I might have heard this from. Assuming this isn't some Berenstain Bears BS on my part.

But, I'll bet that for others it's Voyager or perhaps even the pluckily "little" Defiant or Cerritos. Now, carry on. because the Galaxy-class has a beauty all her own.

I’m so happy you guys showed the USS Enterprise-D firing off 10 photon torpedoes as manual says it should ❤ a lot of us thought 5 forward an 5 aft when that happened but ya know there’s tons of room to stack um that way an fire away , rapid fire 10 of those baby’s an fire phasers at same time like riker commanded worf to do when the hunook ship battled the D just as always those writers let the other guys win , I’d like for once when they hammer an enemy with a ship like the D it does some damage to its equal

Sorry the 3rd torpedo launcher is in the 'Saucer Module' aft facing and can only be used in saucer separation mode and not in the Star Drive. pg 128 Star Trek: The Next Generation technical manual. It's an older type and not one of the Star Drive's tree deck tall mass driver 8 round bust fire/shotgun mode doom cannons.

The Galaxy Class Enterprise D is my most favorite ship. Period. It is the most beautiful ship ever made and had so much character. Voyager was ok. The Defiant was too small but what they needed. A warship. But the D. The D is the ship that could do mostly anything. I'd love to see a Galaxy II Class. Keeping the shape of the original but just...enhancing it. I also love the ending of TNG. The Galaxy Class IV Dreadnought Enterprise D. If the Federation wanted too. The Galaxy class would become probably their mobile fortresses if they out fitted her to be for war. I know in the Dominion War they had wings of Galaxy's but got to realize that those galaxy classes where in complete. They had most of their systems complete but the interior was not. Just enough to function as fighter carriers, command ships, medical ships, transport ships, and such. Crewed with minimal crew to avoid loosing thousands of crew.
The Galaxy class is the best ship period. She is a character herself. TNG got me into Star Trek. It's the only reason why I stay.

As they mentioned in the video the Ross Class is the next version of the Galaxy Class, with larger more circular less elliptical saucer section, larger deflector and updated nacelles. It features warp rings embedded in the saucer for warp travel at warp 6 when separated. Industrial replicators included to set up colonies, crews 2,500 people, dubbed a "mobile Starbase" an evolution from Galaxy Class "mobile city".

I grew up on the films, dad took me to see wrath of khan, search for Spock and voyage home when I was 7, 9 and 11 respectively. That should explain why my far favorite Enterprise or any other ship is the Enterprise refit, or the 1701A since body wise they were the exact same.
I watched Next Generation from the start and it took me a long time to like the D. I thought it was too wide anf flat, and I thought the deflector looked like a cinnamon roll. As the years past though I came to really get a comfortable feeling with the D, I guess after 5 or so seasons it began to feel like home
As the years past and we got into the next gen films and onto the E (which I loved too) I really kinda missed the D. With the way it went down leaving just the saucer section along with the fact that they didn't recreate it with the E the way they redid the refit body with the A, I figured I'd never see it again.
    Was pleasantly incorrect about that.

I didn't care for the 1701-D's design. It didn't do much and never got into big skirmishes. And when it did, it wasn't very long. But I did enjoy seeing it come back. Though the E was better suited for fighting the Borg. Inwould have preferred the E to come in and dominate the final borg cube. 😇
But seeing the D, I had to put some respect on its name, especially seeing Data drifting around with it.

🖖😎👍Very cool and very nicely well done and very well informatively explained and executed in every way and detail possibly provided indeed, But my problem with the ship was how large the saucer primary hull section was twice as large as the secondary hull drive section and then the idea of having families and children on board for a ship that as well was an exploration vessel was also highly geared up for battle, which if it should be fully destroyed would kill everyone on board period!,🤔. And also in Startrek Continues on Utube also shows a saucer separation of the TOS Enterprise in episode 11 To Boudly Go with both parts of the ship in battle against another ship, like Enterprise-D in the best of both worlds and reattached after wards as well, just thought I'd let you know 😉.
