The USS Odyssey's name pays homage to the Apollo 13 NASA moon mission which infamously had an accident endangering the lives of those three astronauts on board. The Apollo 13 Command Module was named "Odyssey" and the Lunar Excursion Module (which served as a lifeboat for the mission) was named "Aquarius"
Funny how they decommissioned E due to it being obsolete, even in the 24th / 25th century - Star ships get old, but can always be upgraded with next generation (not the show) equipment, instead build a completely new ship (The F). Enterprise D had upgrades throughout the show and movie.
I think it's more likely the Commander Henson (Seven of Nine) gets promoted to Captain of the Enterprise F. Potentially leading to a Seven of Nine spin off.
It's beautiful design. It would be very cool to see an eventual refit of it to look something akin to the Lexington class, which is already a newer variant of the Odyssey.
The Odyssey design was a contest winner for Star Trek online and now it's Canon! It's my personal favorite, but I would've added an extra feature, saucer separation. When the sequence begins, hidden doors recess and then slide open, just below the anchor points of the catamarans, revealing another set of nacelles. They would flicker to life as the doors are opening. Showing that they were unused, up to this point. Once the doors are fully open, the neck catamarans swivel slightly outward, like Voyager. They would swivel out enough for their nacelles to safely exit the secondary hull. We could even have a bridge area, of some type emerge, from the superstructure of the secondary hull. But considering the shape of the secondary hull, it might not be necessary. Now you have two powerful starships, as each hull has its own warp core.
Donny, I’m with you. I’m more invested in the characters on Prodigy, the fastest ship in the fleet unless the Oddessy has two warp cores with one powered by a collapsed star. Prodigy writers are stellar… as Admiral Janeway will say, “Who are these kids?”

@@MrGlenspace I believe Craig Penfold meant that he hopes we see the "Enterprise J" on a more regular basis or in a new Star Trek Series in the future.
How did Worf become captain? Didn’t he screw up his career in DS9 to save Dax, with Sisko telling him he would never get a command of his own for his actions?
It is said that Worf's actions were overlooked due to the fact the Federation felt that a Klingon commanding a Federation starship, not to mention the flagship to boot, would solidify relations with the Klingons even further. And especially after they were strained when Gowron was Chancellor. Also, Sisko isn't really in any position to tell Worf he would never receive a command of his own considering the regulations Sisko broke during the Dominion War. His use of biogenic weapons against the Maquis, his disobedience to a Starfleet Admiral subsequently leading to Captain Bentene firing on USS Defiant? There is a lot more, but I think there is a lot more room to give Worf a command he deserves so much.
Correction: Not necessarily a "biogenic weapon" but Sisko forced a Maquis colony to evaluate by using a Trilithium laced torpedo. So that could be considered a potential act of mass genocide had they not evacuated.
Just so you know, the bridge of the USS and ISS enterprise's in STO have had a full bridge redesign recently. This new bridge can only be seen in missions where you beam over to the enterprise. The player cannot access the new bridge layout for their own Odyssey class. Some people are theorising that the new bridge design may have something to do with its appearance in Picard Season 3.
@@TrekCentral you'll know if you're in the correct one, as the viewscreen is no longer mounted to the floor, it's instead hung from the ceiling. Also the lower deck of the bridge is gone. And many many other changes.
@@danielmaurisa92 the most recent one I can think of is in the new series of missions, , so one of the story missions released within the last 6 months has the redesigned Odyssey bridge on the ISS Enterprise. There is a mission in which you will see the redesigned bridge on Shin's enterprise too, but I can't remember which mission it is.
“Shuttle” I do love Kurtztrek’s childlike understanding of scale. The “docked auxiliary craft” is an “Aquarius class”. A 357’6” (110 frenchies) long, 65’ (20 frenchies) high, and 162’6” (50 frenchies) abeam with the engines retracted. That gives this thing roughly the displacement of a Second World War heavy cruiser. A Danube class is a big shuttle. This thing is roughly twelve times the size of a Danube class.
That bridge looks more like a convention center than the command hub of a ship. It's no wonder there's a transporter terminal, you'd need point to point beaming to get from one station to another without the ship being blown up before you could cross the room. On the plus side, if someone cuts off life support the crew will have days of breathable air before they have to worry about winning back control.
According to some STO devs, the Verity wasn’t an Odyssey, but a prototype class named the Verity Class, it looks like it is a step between the Sovereign and the Odyssey, you can fly that variant in the game. But they didn’t have that model finished for the countdown comic, so they just used the Odyssey drawing as a place holder
Indeed, _Verity_ appeared in the comics before Cryptic added the skin to the Legendary Odyssey variant. Which you can only get by buying the 10th anniversary pack.
It should have been the more refined Yorktown variant of the odyssey class, but it is a stunningly beautiful ship, and I’m so happy they chose the odyssey from STO; there have been multiple aesthetic fuck ups in trek over the last few years.
@@eskanda3434 It takes some getting used to. Longtime players of STO have had 11 years to do so. I've had 3. The Lexington variant (Terran version with the tactical pod and spinal phaser lance) is now part of my regular rotation of ships.
I heard at one point during a stream for Star Trek online that they work so close with CBS/Paramount that everything has to be approved by them and that the entire game is canon. So figured this ship was already canon.
The whole game? Then what about the Romulan Republic? Its story conflicts with that of the Romulan Free State and the homeless Romulan refugees from STP, doesn't it? So the game's version can't be canon, unfortunately.
@@shawncarter7188 I disagree. There are structural differences that are quite visible, as has been seen and pointed out by several RUclips creators. As well, I have never been able to understand why a saucer section on Federation Star Ships cannot separate from the engineering section. That, and why a saucer section cannot have warp drive. Hopefully, the Enterprise - F has warp drive in the saucer section and is well armed. Just an opinion.
That “double neck” from the primary hull to the saucer TOTALLY STINKS!!! One neck and two torpedo launchers would be way cooler. Quantum torpedos stacked up and down the whole thing. 😎 🖖🏻
I kind of didn’t like it at first. I think it wasn’t me not liking it, just that it was different. It grew on my though. And I like how the design of the ship has a larger scope than the Enterprise D and E. It is so huge. If the Enterprise D was a city in space, the Enterprise F would be a portable space station 😎
I was kinda hoping the Neo Constitution Class would have an Enterprise, with that said I always figured Enterprise E was destroyed by Worf although the crew survived except those who were killed during the battle . I kinda wonder if Picard had any kids in his time, even illegitimate
The bridge was recently redesigned in STO, but the new design only appears on the enterprise during missions where you go to the enterprise. It's a fair bit smaller - but still oversized, as all STO interiors are oversized . The new bridge variant is currently not available for players Odyssey class ships.
It is strange seeing the UFOP symbol on the ship. Because while the Enterprise has always been referred to as a flag ship, in truth, it was only ever the flag ship of a specific fleet. Kirk's Enterprise was the flagship of the 1st fleet, The Enterprise D and E were the flagships of the 7th Fleet, etc. But a total, star fleet wide flag ship? I feel thats a bit much, theres no real command structure reason for that. the whole reason a flagship exists is when multiple ships of fleet are brought in on an operation, the flag ship automatically becomes the command vessel and that ship's captain is the defacto admiral until the admiral in command actually arrives to take control of the situation. honestly though, with how Starfleet is organized, its a flawed concept seeing as Starfleet has thousands of ships, and fleets should ordered to only a specific sector. granted, the only time we ever see fleets become a core structure is during war time, so the Enterprise status as a flagship means very little in peace time.
2:21 It’s still too strange that the pre-TOS ships like the Gagarin, Shepard, and Cardenas classes aren’t just bigger than Connies, they’re bigger than the Enterprise B/Excelsior Class. The Excelsior was supposed to be the huge, new ship that dwarfed the Connie, but suddenly we have these ret cons from well before the Connie that are much larger. Those ships should have been smaller; in between the NX and Connie. I like their designs though. If they had been post TNG, they would have made more sense. They should have tried to keep some of the TOS era styling in the ships that preceded the Connie. I can see some of things working as older designs; such as the squared nacelles of the Shepard and Crossfield classes being an interim, experimental design before they went back to the tubular nacelles found in TOS and the Enterprise eras (perhaps they discovered they were more efficient or something), but other aspects of the designs seem too modern for the era (besides being overly large). It’s like the designers for Disco were just wanting to make cool ships without regard for the historical period.
Thank you, CBS, for showing respect to something GOOD that came from Star Trek Online. It's an absolutely beautiful ship. CBS loves to ignoring STO entirely. I get that STO can't be entirely canon, but it certainly brings a lot of good ideas to the table. The Enterprise E's lifespan was probably greatly shortened by ramming the Scimitar. It would have resulted in deep spaceframe damage that could never be fully repaired. They likely decided it was okay to use it for a few more years, but that it would ultimately need to be retired after 10 years instead of ~100. Of course, Starfleet also tends to not keep more than 1 flagship class in service at any one time. They're more costly to maintain and crew than the second-line ships like the Miranda and Nebula, so once they're combat-obsolete they tend to be retired.
It would be nice if instead of being destroyed after a fairly short service life, the story is that the Enterprise-E, possibly after suffering major damage or with a significant shipyard availability or midlife upgrade coming up, was retired from federation service as an exploratory cruiser, renamed, re-equipped for less of a frontline combat role, and placed back into service as some other sort of starfleet vessel, like a long range colony support vessel, deep space scientific research ship, or long range diplomatic support ship and VIP courier.
I remember buying the ship ages ago in STO because it looked so awesome. I'm actually curious how much technical details will be carried over from STO. In the trailer the ship had more the feel of the Yorktown-Class considering the Odyssey is much lighter in color.
That dorsal black spine of the secondary hull looks much like a flight deck to this Cold War bird farm sailor. Perhaps a large compliment of Runabout or other smaller craft to dock there as they would be within the 1701-F's warp bubble. Maybe even some special mission modules ala USN Seal mini sub.
Don't forget that the Federation, Klingon Empire, Romulan Republic and the Dominion are all part of an alliance now and you would need to know which ship is the flagship for the Federation.
Don't you mean the Romulan Free State? I can't imagine the STP writers being able to reconcile their story with Cryptic's. They're just too different. And there won't be a Khitomer Alliance without Starfleet and the Federation being able to return to DS9 and TNG standards first, instead of being xenophobic villains. A larger threat, like the Iconians, would likely be required to unite them.
Though I still prefer the beauty that is the sovereighn, this ship is still high on the list for me. And its uniqe bridge design really is the cherry on top
Off topic but I wonder why the Federation does not use powered personal armor with built in weaponry , surely Federation technology is advanced enough to produce it.
Next to the Constitution class refit this is my favorite Enterprise. just a brilliant design this ship is so sleek it looks like it’s moving when it’s not. like a Ferrari.
OMG! Why? WHY?? Why is the freaking bridge still on top of the saucer section exposed to enemy fire and projectile damage? One stray photon torpedo, comet, asteroid or meteor could hit and destroy the birdge and disable the entire vessel.
Having a Transporter on the bridge makes so much sense, you can beam to the battle bridge faster and vice vera, you can hold incoming hostiles in stasis til security arrives , or have time to get ready for "guests"...the other thing is do they need a transporter tech on the bridge or do they have hot keys?...or both .It would make sense to have both...IMO.Overall I love the look.
The 2400s? Is that right? Has the TNG timeline made it to the 25th century? I haven't kept up with the details (although I did watch Deep space nine for the first time during the pandemic, and I loved it. Might be my favorite Trek series).
STO's original timeline started in 2409, and is currently at 2411. STP taking elements from the game mean they're appearing far earlier than they were originally planned to do. But yes, still in the 25th century (not counting the time shenigans that take your character elsewhen, of course).
It *looks* really neat, but the design of the neck doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Seems like they could fill that in, have it be a lot stronger structurally, and add a lot of room to the inside of the ship. Rule of cool, though.
Each individual pylon on the Odyssey class looks much sturdier than on more classic hulls like the Constitution-class. You'd think starships getting split in two would've been a bigger issue in the TOS era, but clearly they're built well enough; and redundant in the Odyssey. As far as interior space, yes you lose that, but you do gain more Hull space for windows. You can have quarters with windows on the outside and inside of each pylon to improve the comfort for more crewmembers and possibly family. This technique is actually already in modern cruise ships. Vessels like Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class have balcony rooms facing the "inside" of the ship, which is a huge internal promenade. Less space overall, but more comfortable rooms
If it wasn't over 375 metres longer, I'd assume the Odyssey Class was simply a refit of the Sovereign Class. Much like how the Odessy itself was refit into the Yorktown Class.
Alright, literally hype about the Enterprise-F. I haven't play STO for quite awhile now, but still one of my favorite ships I owned is yes none other then the Odyssey-Class. I used her so many times in the game by far and now that they are officially canonizing it, which seem to be exactly the same design if not very similar dammm!. Really looking forward to see her in action in Season 3

The only thing I don't like is the stairs, The Enterprise D was very wheel chair friendly, it's weird that they would go back on that after even have episodes in Classic Star Trek about differently abled officers.
The only problem I see is in the timeline. The Enterprise J showed up in Enterprise in the 29th century. That could have been 2801. But only 4 ships with that name for 300 years. I find that highly improbable. But anyway whomever created this ship is an artist and genius. I love the flow of the design. It looks sleek and powerful. Kind of like the E. I'm excited to see this. And yes I know the J had time travel capabilities. Pretty ship.
@@davemccullough2256 The Na'kuhl were from the 29th century, as well as the USS Relativity. Other then that there really hasn't been any other mentions of 29th century I don't think
So the best knowledge we have on this unfortunately comes from STO. The Enterprise-J which is stated as “Universe-Class” is a 26th century ship. From what part of the 26th century I don’t really know. It does have a “temporal shunt” drive though so trying to determine a chronology of Enterprise’s from F onward is a bit of a tangent.

I really like this ship. I'm glad it's going to be officially shown on the screen and be cannon.
I love the Odyssey class and I'm so excited that this is now Cannon.
What about the Deep Space Nine Crossover
@@DyanBermeo What Deep Space Nine Cross-over?
The new captain will be data
@@radiology007 Not Seven?
So, so close!
This makes me want to get back into STO. The ship looks beautiful.
lets make the borg invasion of the dominion space cannon. we want to see a good boxing match between the jem, hadar and the borg.
Although I'm more hyped about the return of "Prodigy," I do love Enterprise-F.
Donny, I’m with you. I’m more invested in the characters on Prodigy, the fastest ship in the fleet unless the Oddessy has two warp cores with one powered by a collapsed star. Prodigy writers are stellar… as Admiral Janeway will say, “Who are these kids?”
“That guy” at the helm of the Defiant, in the First Contact clip is Adam Scott from Parks & Recreation. 😜
Gorgeous ship worthy of the name Enterprise👍🖖
I think so too!!

since matalas said there will be a passing of the baton this season, i'm hoping this means the new enterprise will be getting a show
I actually would not mind a new "Star Trek" series about "Enterprise F" myself.
In any event, it’s going to glorious to see ol 1701-F on our television screens for the upcoming season of Picard! I’ll be keeping the champagne chilling and the glasses ready for a cheers 🥂. Super excited about for February 2023!
That guy is Adam Scott from Parks and Rec, Party Down, Big Little Lies, The Good Place, Severance….
I’m confused. We never saw the end of the Enterprise-E, and as far as I know, the sovereign class would still be in service, right?
This is NuTrek. We’re not supposed to think that hard.
The new Enterprise F is stunning!!! Thanks for sharing this exciting video!!! 🖖
Thanks Christopher, Glad you enjoyed it!

I like this bridge very much (Bortasqu bridge too), but sadly its locked only to Odysey class (and its variants).
I liked the subtle reference to The Firm's "Star Trekkin". "We come in Peace", "Shoot to Kill". well done
Looks like a giant version of Voyager.
They used the borg technology to make and hot rod voyager
True
Looks 10 times better then the Voyager☺️
I thought the same thing
That's exactly wat I thought
I hope this means we are actually going to see the enterprise J at some point, I thing the Universe class starships are beautiful
We saw it briefly when daniels showed it to Archer.
@@MrGlenspace I believe Craig Penfold meant that he hopes we see the "Enterprise J" on a more regular basis or in a new Star Trek Series in the future.
Enterprise J was more like an alien ship
@@blinkenschnaag777 yes... so?
After watching the Picard finale, the Enterprise-F sure got short-shrifted.
How did Worf become captain? Didn’t he screw up his career in DS9 to save Dax, with Sisko telling him he would never get a command of his own for his actions?
Post-Dominion War, Starfleet was likely desperate for new captains as they start rebuilding their fleet and getting everything back to normal.
Oooh thanks Daniel! I’ll have to go and take a look at this one :)
- Jack
@@TrekCentral you'll know if you're in the correct one, as the viewscreen is no longer mounted to the floor, it's instead hung from the ceiling.
Also the lower deck of the bridge is gone.
And many many other changes.
Hey, what mission? I didnt remember any..
This is nothing to do with Kurtzman haha.
- Jack
That bridge looks more like a convention center than the command hub of a ship. It's no wonder there's a transporter terminal, you'd need point to point beaming to get from one station to another without the ship being blown up before you could cross the room. On the plus side, if someone cuts off life support the crew will have days of breathable air before they have to worry about winning back control.
A Jeffrey combs led Enterprise F Star Trek show would be awesome
Yes he was great as Weyoun and Sharan, brunt. Especially the best character Weyoun.
Will be interesting to see if it has any shuttles based on the design of the Delta Flyer
In spite of what some people say about it the Odyssey Class is a beautiful design.
Is it beautiful? Looks very generic looking to me the silhouette is not very memorable nor does it have the iconic look of A or D.
I am hoping very soon that there will be a model kit of this Enterprise - F.
Why? Just get an E. Same thing imo
They are quite different
the double neck was to help with quantum slipstream possibly transwarp if I remember correctly
The double neck is about the only thing original about the design. Without it, it’s just a scaled-up Sovereign.
Commodore/ Rear admiral lower half La Forge would be cool as commanding officer of the Enterprise F
I was kinda hoping the Neo Constitution Class would have an Enterprise, with that said I always figured Enterprise E was destroyed by Worf although the crew survived except those who were killed during the battle . I kinda wonder if Picard had any kids in his time, even illegitimate
This is really nice. Maybe a little Normandy SR-1/SR-2 influence. Which is nice.
I really can’t see why they would make such a large bridge though. Captain would be shouting orders at the crew 24/7
The bridge was recently redesigned in STO, but the new design only appears on the enterprise during missions where you go to the enterprise. It's a fair bit smaller - but still oversized, as all STO interiors are oversized .
The new bridge variant is currently not available for players Odyssey class ships.
WOW! Enterprise F is beautiful! Love at first sight 😍 🖖😁🤘
The NCC 1701 E and NCC1701 F are the best looking Enterprises of all time. It's a shame that we will never see the NCC1701 F in series or movies.
It’s like the designers for Disco were just wanting to make cool ships without regard for the historical period.
wow I Hope they make a good choice for Captain Va'Kel Shon - USS Enterprise NCC-1701-F
haha, so much for the Enterprise - F
The E and the F Enterprises are my favourite ones, aka the Sovereign Class and the Odyssey Class are my favourite Starships.
Oh yeah I also like the YorkTown Class.
With respect to further variant ships, we still respect for those hardworks and frameworks.
Fantastic to finally see this version of the Enterprise-F appear on screen as connon.
Cool, may the force be with you.
If I'm not mistaken I think in Star Trek Starfleet curator of the museum fleet been trying to get his hands on Enterprise E for the last 20 years
I Like the Enterprise-D, Enterprise-E, Enterprise-F, and Enterprise-J-in Fact, I Like All Ships that Beat the Name Enterprise.
That is One of the Coolest Ships EVER!!!!
I remember buying the ship ages ago in STO because it looked so awesome. I'm actually curious how much technical details will be carried over from STO. In the trailer the ship had more the feel of the Yorktown-Class considering the Odyssey is much lighter in color.
Thanks for this video… very cool rundown of the Enterprise F ……definitely a beautiful ship!! Can’t wait to see it on Picard season 3!!
Woah. When enterprise pulled up to defiant that was st tmp klingon jingle
I'm very curious how many Odyssey features will be carried over to the canon version, especially the docked Aquarius escort.
To be fair the original Odyssey prototype has a second hangar instead of the Aquarius.
I love hearing that "it lives to the name Enterprise". I do thing the Star Trek online enterprise F looks cool.
Please please please PLEASE don't let them just blow up the Ent-F
NOW THAT'S A STARSHIP!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!
OMG! Why?
You can also focus more of the action on just one big set, and have us assume there are lots of other rooms. :)
Is it me... or are some of those design elements Romulan in feel? Did designers take cues, or did the Zhat Vash infiltrate the SCE?
Looks sort of like a shoehorn used to help you get your shoes on.
The 2400s? Is that right? Has the TNG timeline made it to the 25th century? I haven't kept up with the details (although I did watch Deep space nine for the first time during the pandemic, and I loved it. Might be my favorite Trek series).
Correct! Star Trek: Picard Season 2 takes place in 2401, meaning Season 3 might take place near 2411.
Does it have Transwarp, Quantum Slipstream, Coaxial Warp drive?
Such a beautiful ship.. it’s bridge on STO is simply Beautiful
If it wasn't over 375 metres longer, I'd assume the Odyssey Class was simply a refit of the Sovereign Class. Much like how the Odessy itself was refit into the Yorktown Class.
Add a surprise USS Nog with stunning upgrades. Peace.
Gagarin class from STO is in Picard too. Sadly, there is no Arbiter which is my favorite ship from Federation side.
🖖😎👍Very cool and very nicely well done and very well executed and informatively explained in every way and detail possibly provided indeed, And you have to admit she is a very beautiful and very nice looking ship indeed👌.
The only thing I don't like is the stairs, The Enterprise D was very wheel chair friendly, it's weird that they would go back on that after even have episodes in Classic Star Trek about differently abled officers.
I LOVE THE BIG SWOOPING LINES OF ENTERPRISE F OVER THE EDGY LINRD OF THE E
Can some tell me, is there a newer version of the Defiant class starship?
Please. Let’s not keep ruining starships.
It happened! My tattoo is finally cannon! Im dying!
The Enterprise J I'm fairly certain is from the 26th century, was it not?
@@tails7632 Im pretty sure it was the 29th. I'm going to look because I could be wrong.
Your right. Why did they say 29th alot?
@@davemccullough2256 The Na'kuhl were from the 29th century, as well as the USS Relativity. Other then that there really hasn't been any other mentions of 29th century I don't think
So the best knowledge we have on this unfortunately comes from STO. The Enterprise-J which is stated as “Universe-Class” is a 26th century ship. From what part of the 26th century I don’t really know. It does have a “temporal shunt” drive though so trying to determine a chronology of Enterprise’s from F onward is a bit of a tangent.
Sweet now i have reason to buy the odyssey in star trek online. Better buy it now before Cryptic ups the price because its cannon now
The bridge is HUGE. Looks like the lobby of a Vegas casino hotel.
what is gonna blow peoples minds is if they use the Aquarius.. and i always thought that the downstairs part of the Odyssey bridge was a Battle Bridge or CIC, as you wouldn't need all those fleet support functions that the main bridge has during combat.. or the scientific functions as much..
OMG I just totally geeked out over this.
