I feel like, if Kibbe is too complex and confusing, this system is too simplified and confusing. But I love learning about other people’s systems, so yay a new rabbit hole!
Kibbe is really not that complicated, especially if you start with your height to narrow it down. For example, if you are under 5'5" you can really only be Soft Natural, Romantic, Soft Classic, or a Gamine type. Aly Art's videos break it all down in a really helpful way.
@@lizzy-wx4rx kibbe is complicated to a lot of people, but I didn’t say it was complicated to me. But thanks for the lesson. I feel so much better now.
So agree with the straight/romantic comparison. I’m a romantic but never resonated with the suggestions of ornate hyper-femme. I always thought Marilyn Monroe never wore those ornate shapes and patterns, always curvy but never flowy or frou frou. I always thought it was strange that she is the kibbe romantic archetype but doesn’t dress in those kibbe lines.
She's a Romantic bc her flesh is soft, and her frame isn't dominant. She wears perfect R lines, which is why she's the R archetype! Ornate and hyper-femme is more for TR or SD. TR wears more details, and SD can wear larger, more extravagant lines. R is simpler.
As an African American, Kibbe Dramatic, this system didn't resonate with me. I guess it's because I'm not voluptuous, frame dominant, nor petite. But I'm happy if others are able to benefit from this system.
@@gummy5862 Technically yes, but being 5'11.5 finding things that are "long enough" and cut right has been extremely difficult. My nicer pieces have been custom made,it's expensive. And honestly your Kibbe type doesn't always fit with your personality. My body might be "high-fashion" but my personality is more chill.
I read the reddit article and I'm shocked! For the first time I am textbook something in a body type system 😮 I am a straight type and I was already applying most of the tips. Also that answers the question of why extremely feminine garments always looked off, even mature on me
I'm a Kibbe soft classic and none of the three types in the video describe me, neither do the suggested clothes choices. I think for people who are in between two Kibbe types or are unsure what Kibbe type they are can find this very helpful though. For me, Kibbe SC is just spot on and therefore I can easily identify with it. Overall I think that while Kibbe might be confusing to some people, it offers a broader variety and thus more differentiated system. But for those who find themselves not fitting any Kibbe type the simpler system is probably great.
I believe myself to be a soft classic and I also don't fit into any of these three - primarily because I am very short waisted. This is not a feature that I see mentioned much in many kibbe/style videos but it seriously impacts my comfort and ability to find appropriate clothing. Do you have similar challenges?
@@superbettynow I'm also a Kibbe Soft Classic, short waisted, 5'3" tall and a bit overweight. On top of it I'm warm Autumn with olive skin tone. You cannot imagine what a difficult time I have shopping for clothes that would fit me and colour-wise would look good on me. However, once I understood the seasonal colouring and Kibbe body system I became very aware of things that don't work for me and instead of getting annoyed and frustrated, I just avoid shopping clothes that don't work for me. Case in point, the purple Sheath dress that I bought back in 2020. It was just before the pandemic lockdown and one cold winter day, during lunch time, as I was walking around downtown Toronto, I walked into Nordstrom to warm up and there I saw a very beautiful dress on a Mannequin and in that moment I thought to myself, I have to have this dress in my life. I looked at the price tag and it was marked down to $35 dollars....naturally I bought it without any hesitations. The dress is a midi length, straight sheath dress with collar, long sleeves, cuffs, buttons and a belt. The fabric has Tartan Plaid pattern in purple and gold yellow, and is absolutely stunning. To say this dress is the perfect office dress is an understatement. I wore it once to the office and never again. I thought I was going to get a lot of compliments that day, but instead everybody in the office turned into a fashion critic and gave me crap for wearing that dress. I learned a valuable lesson, that just because a dress looks good on someone else, does not mean that it will also look good on me. After that traumatizing day I came across the Kibbe body type and seasonal colouring and now I can see why that dress did not work on me and will never work on me in a million years. Here is a website that helped me select the right choices and be selective during my clothes shopping. Hope it helps you as much as it helped me. It is called "Sew your Kibbe". On the main page you can find all the Kibbe body types which is this link doctortdesigns.com/wardrobe-planning/sew-your-kibbe/. For the Soft classic you can use this link doctortdesigns.com/2018/12/03/sew-your-kibbe-soft-classic/. If the link doesn't work just google "Sew Your Kibbe" and you'll find the web page. Good Luck 🤞🤞😊😊
this was so easy to understand! i'm only 5 feet tall, and 100 lbs but i never quite fit in with kibbe's choices and i immediately saw my body in the wave type. thank you!
UNBELIEVABLY helpful - thank you so much. As you said, it's a starting point to narrow down and then proceed to Kibbe if desired. This quick analysis plus the link to the Japanese self-test indicated straight top/wavy bottom which summed up my best look as shorter top, emphasized, higher waist, flowing pants/skirt. Upon review, my favorite outfits over the years and times I've felt my best were when wearing this combination. Thanks Jenn! You have a great eye for spotting hot topics and breaking them down more succinctly and analytically than most.
Hi! I’ve studied at Yumiko Futagami’s school for the skeletal diagnosis, and is curious about Kibbe body type so am watching your content. I think that the dramatic classic will be classified in the straight type, as the skeletal diagnosis has only 3 types, there are more diversity within the types. The skeletal diagnosis is more about how to honor your body balance and how to accommodate it by choosing the shape and fabric of the clothes and isn’t about the design or taste of the clothes. I thought the Kibbe body types are more about the design and the taste so maybe that‘s the most different part? A wave type can wear a jacket too, but they should accommodate it by choosing a softer material, or unbutton it and wear a high waist skirt (or pants) inside. Thank you for introducing the skeletal diagnosis and am looking forward for your videos!
I'm half East Asian, and I have been so confused about my Kibbe ID for so long. I just knew that I was probably a curve/soft/romantic-y type. The straight type makes so much sense for me. I find that I look better in tailored, but not restrictive clothing. The natural-style clothes look sloppy and "big" on me, and the wave-type clothes (gamine) have always looked strange and restrictive on my body. thank you thank you thank you. I at least have one body ID answer 😄
I found this video to be very helpful! And I now know my dominant body type! Thank you! P.s. It’s impossible to represent every single body type or person, so please don’t apologize for it! You can only speak from your own experience. If people have a problem with that, then maybe this channel isn’t for them and that’s OK. Not every channel is for me either nor should it be.
I was completely confused trying to answer the questions on Reddit…I was a bit of everything…but it was quite easy to see from your explanation that I clearly fell in the straight category
I got mostly a’s and 3 b’s. The clothing examples for the A type are exactly the types of clothing that I’ve observed over the years to look the best on me, tailored and straight lines with little to no fussiness and simple contrasting patterns. This fits me way better than the kibbe romantic type with ingenue essence which calls for ruffles and cutesy details. In fact this system fits me perfectly. Thanks for finding this and doing a video on it. I for one appreciate the hard work you put into researching style systems etc. I’m glad I found your channel. I’ve learned loads in a short space of time. You, Alexandra Anelle and Ellie Jean Royden are helping me sort out my style for once and for all😅
I also love a more simple and tailored style, but with some subtle feminity. I wear a lot of tailored skirts and dresses, and soft colors, that’s enough without adding lace and frills🙂
@@kimberlyperrotis8962 classic tailoring looks the best on most people i’ve always thought. I like simple clean lines, classic tailoring but still like a slash of colour here and there. One of the cutest outfits I ever wore was a black fitted fine knit dress with white polka dots, worn with black opaque tights and a pair of pinkish-purple heels. I got loads of compliments for that outfit.
I got the skeletal diagnosis when I had a seasonal color analysis in Korea. I was told I was a wavy type and super confused (I didn't pay for any other diagnosis, she just added that). But it was difficult to find resources about this. I'm able to understand a bit japanese but things are easier to understand in languages I'm better in. Trying to follow the japanese recommendations worked better than figuring out my kibble type for me.
This was very interesting, especially the Madonna discussion. I *think I am a Kibbe Romantic (but who really knows) but I've always gravitated towards these suggested styles and textures, rather than the small round shapes and frills in kibbe. I am small and curvy so I always thought it looked awkward/vulgar when I wore ruffles and little girl details. This will be an interesting rabbit hole for me.
Same! I noticed that extremely simple garments look best on me, just completed with a small interesting detail. The moment I try to wear something "extra", it looks ridiculous. Which is sad, because I love a bit of extra. I guess my body is already a bit extra, lol xD
Your hair looks awesome, Jenn. I'm a flamboyant natural and this system echoes that. I enjoy new ways of typing because it's fun. Thank you for this video.
Thanks Jenn! I took what I think was the original Japanese quiz just using Google translate. This system is so easy, and actually seems accurate for me! It says I’m a straight type. With Kibbe I think I am a soft natural, but soft natural looks often make me look bulky. Also, I’m half black and Filipino if that helps anyone who isn’t white or East Asian.😊
That’s so interesting. Thank you a lot. I am quite tall (5,7) but didn’t fit the kibbe type for tall people at all and diagnosed myself as flamboyant gamine (in the end) Now I typed myself as wavy and I guess everything makes more sense to me now 😊
I feel similarly! I’m quite tall too and I’ve considered all the aspects that the kibbe system categorises, vertical line, kibbe width, petite, balance, curve and double curve. I still find double curve a little confusing to judge on myself so I won’t make a distinction here. I don’t feel cut off if I don’t dress for a long vertical line, I also don’t get easily swallowed up by oversized clothes like a petite person might. I don’t have to consider accommodating width, and I don’t identify with either the high contrast looks of the gamine or with the need for balance and simplicity of classics. The only thing I need to worry about in terms of silhouette is waist emphasis, and all my fit issues come from my curves. Which should make me a romantic type but I can’t be one because of my height 🤷🏼♀️ I just don’t know what to make of it, but here I can see that I mostly fit into the straight type
Wow! I’m surprised how easily this system clicked for me when all the other body systems didn’t. I’m very clearly a Straight body type in this system. But in kibbe…most people say I’m Romantic, SG or SN….. sooooo I really don’t know but I’ve been going more with Romantic if I pay attention to kibbe at all. But THIS, makes so much more sense
Thanks, this was actually helpful for me as a tall woman with curves I’d kind of settled on SD, but I am just slightly more straight than curve, which makes me more of a Dramatic. This explains why these clean strong lines really work on me, but also why I do well with some ‘curve’ accommodation and bold accessories. It kind of helps to consider myself in relation to friends since we may both be the same or similar type with important variations, making us not wear quite the same best clothes.
Also, I always got compared to Madonna when I was younger and in LA, but I’m a solid 6-7 inches taller than her! However, I do look good in the same kinds of clothes.
I recently commented on one of your videos about my inability to type myself using the Kibbe system. Thanks for this simpler method. Am patiently waiting for content for those of us (young and older) with silver hair.
Ethnically ambiguous here! I’m a middle earther lol (Latino, Mediterranean, Arab passing). I don’t look like many of Jenn’s examples but they’re spot on. Always something to learn and apply to your own unique features/style. Jenn - Another one ☝🏼 (DJKhaled)
“Wine” you is so much more with it than “wine” me 😆 Can’t wait for you to tap into the 7 essences if you’ll ever want to or consider it! It adds a whole other level of nuance I’ve been trying to pay attention to more, but all this can feel so abstract and ambiguous at times! Regardless, it’s so much fun and always a learning journey. I get so happy when you post☺️Is it hard for you to decide what video to do next out of your ever-growing list of requests and ideas? 😅
My next video is on Kitchener Essences ❤ Yes the list is growing which is good since I literally have ideas for the next few months now lol! I've been meaning to create a poll to ask everyone which topic you'd be interested in the most hehe
I found that the straight style tips of V-neck and fitted match what I have found to work for me over the years. So, I enjoyed this comparison and your explanation.
As an Asian, who is very short (5’0”), old (60’s) and overweight (bottom heavy, not evenly distributed)… I’m still looking to find my place in any system. 😢 I do appreciate your simple explanations and find it helpful.
Thank you so much! Looks like it's the Only system so far to which I fit perfectly: it's explicitly gives characteristics of all cloth items, that(I think) look good on me. 🙇♀
I feel that being inclusive sometimes should only mean that nobody is actively excluded, but it shouldn't mean that everyone will necessarily belong. I watch wonderful videos of black women showing how they fit their wigs: I don't see anybody complaining that it wouldn't work on their hair type. We are all different. Our differences should be accepted and not be a basis for discrimination, however, they should not be used as a justification for entitlement either. I might not find my place in this far eastern system, but I didn't find it in Kibbe either. Nevermind, I do enjoy your videos and learn a lot from them. 😊❤
Thanks for this system! I commented on the last video being confused about my Kibbe type, if I had any reason to believe I was a DC FG it’s all gone now because I fit solidly into the Straight type! I like how this system takes the side profile into account too, and I agree that it’s more focused on balancing out your body as opposed to echoing your features. So maybe there is still some merit to knowing both this and the Kibbe system. It’s a solution for, let’s say romantics who don’t always want to wear ruffles on a daily basis but might prefer to emphasise on a special occasion? Looking forward to seeing more content from your channel!
That's very interesting. I got mostly A's in the test (hardly any B's and C's), and I've typed myself as a Soft Natural in the Kibbe system. I was actually stuck choosing between the Classic and Natural body types, but I think ultimately the more casual style of Naturals aligns what I've learned fits my body.
Even “where one gains fat “ changes with age and, of course, one’s weight really affects any body-shape typing. Beginning in my 40s, I watched my waist area just continue to thicken and thicken, even though I wasn’t gaining weight. I’m normal weight (BMI of 20), but I sometimes worry about this unhealthy visceral fat around my middle. In my youth, when I couldn’t keep my weight up to a healthy level, I was typed much differently in body shape, than in my heavier years, or now that I’m at health-ideal weight. But, I have a tiny frame and minimal musculature, so I think I should weigh 15-20 lbs. less than this ideal weight. I think I have more fat than a woman of the same height and weight who has an average to sturdier frame would, it just doesn’t show as much because of my small frame. This year I had to buy a whole new wardrobe because of significant aging-related weight loss, so I’m not sure I want to let myself lose more weight at this point. The expense of all-new clothes was killer, I needed everything except for socks, footwear and accessories. I can’t deny that buying it was tons of fun, though.🙂
This helped me. I appreciate the work that you put into your videos. I also appreciate the lack of background music. I have an audio processing problem, so background music with narratives can be a problem.
This is great! I was finally able to classify my body and it wasn’t confusing like Kibbe. I am 💯 “straight”. With the Kibbe system, I thought I was “soft natural” but that classification never felt totally comfortable. Thanks!
In the kibbe world I was really torn i couldn't settle on a type I knew I'm not gamine or pure dramatic, definitely don't need to accommodate curve that much so i was left with classic and natural aspects of both these types work for me I found this test super helpful I got even B's and C's
Interesting! Didn't resonate as much as Kibbe/Kitchener does for me. I'm self diagnosed SN lol but when I took the quiz, I came up w "natural" but as you did the description one by one I felt much more pulled to "straight". Always interesting to learn another self analysis method!
Listen I am an African American and I love that you focus on Asian examples. You just said it's hard to find Asian examples and I imagine other Asian women have similar frustrations. I too find it very difficult to find black examples as I typically see the same celebrities being used. Good on you for providing additional resources for women who really need it. Ignore the complaints. They are made by women who are used to being the default. They'll have to get over it or find another channel.
Odd, how in Kibbe I'm in-between Dramatic and Soft Dramatic(with a slight DC possibility), but in this system I'm evenly split between Wave and Natural(B4C3A2, I counted both 1 and 7 as both B and C), I was genuinely surprised to essentially be the equivalent of Soft Natural when the first thing I ruled out of Kibbe is Width. Not surprised to get Wave at my top, since I'm literally the front pictured, the only two differences are outward-facing breasts and a more visibly triangular waistline. I'd love to see a pattern recommendation based on bone structure vs color season!
I really appreciate your videos & can’t imagine why anyone would pick on you, your models are perfect illustrations of the point you are trying to make, you are talking about geometry not color FGS! 😂 Hopefully the trolls wills go back under the bridge…. Keep up the good work! Thank You!
I think I do understand the Kibbe system quite well by now and this one is a bit confusing to me to be honest. I do not understand the straight or wave type at all. The natural makes sense to me though. I am FN in Kibbe and still, by that test, am natural an this system too. But the other two types? I really don't understand their structure and it doesn't make much sense to me right now. Which doesn't mean I say it's wrong, I just would have to get deeper into it, to understand it. What I did think in the very beginning of the video is: It makes sense because there are mainly straight or curved types in Kibbe. Unless you're balanced and a Classic. But any other type either has curves or is rather straight. What I am missing here is considering length (Kibbe vertical) or petite. But considering this being a japanese system, it does make sense. I am from Germany and by now we have all different sizes, shapes, colorings, body types, heights and looks around here. We have tiny women with the most doll-like faces and also very tall women with sharp and intimidating vibes. I feel like here are so many beautiful and facetted types of people that you can not say what's the most common in our country anymore. But I might fall into a rather amazonian type. My mom, my aunt, my cousin and I all have straight shoulders, a wide upper back, blunt and big bones, are all frame dominant and have some elements of various essences within ourselves. My cousin is more of a dramatic essence, my aunt predominantly seems to be from natural essence, my mom has a huge amount of ingenue and ethereal and I am pretty sure I do have some gamine and a tad bit of dramatic within me too (but that dramatic doesn't show that much in regular situations so I don't really accomodate it in my styling). What I find quite interesting: I had a girl at school and her body type is either the tallest possible FN or even dramatic. Her face though... flat, wide, rather doll like, if you know what I mean. She's always been very pretty and always had that cute face. Nowadays she looks a bit more mature, but hey, we're not in our 20's anymore. She's still pretty and her body type is still a bit confusing to me. I can't tell you what she might be, but she has this classic appearance to her too. Maybe she has classic essence, because her body doesn't seam balanced to me. She's pretty and dresses well. I'd also love to know her seasonal color palette. She's very light, has beautifully green eyes and naturally blonde hair. I do think she's on the cool side though. Has these light grey-taupe freckles on her face. I always hated the fact that she got bullied because she was already VERY tall at the age of 12. I myself got bullied because I was 168cm tall at the age of 14. And she always said "next to you I don't appear all that odd anymore, can you please just walk beside me?" and we actually became friends due to that. She's over 180cm tall and could have been a model if she'd wanted to. I love all these systems, really. Not because I wanna compare, because I wanna understand shapes, silhouettes and visual effects certain types of styling can have. It's a fun topic for me and one I really can get carried away with.
I agree! I enjoy learning about the different systems because it's interesting to see how there are methods that can accommodate everyone in a different way ❤
Thank you so much!! I've been trying really hard to grow it and fighting the urge for a haircut haha. I've been using Moroccan Oil + Coconut Milk as a leave-in which is leaving my hair looking healthier ❤
I get so confused by the vertical line. I have a long torso so I look short next to my friend who is the same height, 5'8. So yeah TR or SD is where I am stuck, but I'm stuck here too. I got a good mix of C's and B's but mostly C's. However 1 look at those mannequins and I can see my thick pear thighs and long torso. I found some questions/answers confusing, the palm question, the clavicle question, and the knee question.
I’ve read that in Kibbe a a long torso can give a person vertical. And just so you know, if you’re 5’8”,” you have automatic vertical in Kibbe. So you can’t be TR since you don’t accommodate petite. Hope this helps.
..I can’t find the questions..geez. But I really likes the video, skeletal makes sense and is easier to grasp than the ever expanding Kibbe kaleidoscope.
I would prefer systems that stayed away from using natural, classic etc if you are trying to determine your silhouette & proportions. Body type & style essence don't always line up, especially now that in general fashion is more relaxed & casual. Soooooo, most people need some structure/tailoring to their clothing. That can be accomplished with pleats, darts, waistbands, etc. As for pattern & texture, probably best to keep it in proportion to the wearer. A small print on a large body or vice versa could look off (unless that's what you're going for)
I love your content :) I'm a soft natural in the kibbe system, but I feel more related to the curve body type in this system... or maybe a mix between natural and curve body types...
Interesting that the straight type is the most voluptuous! I fit best in the straight type. Interesting! I think that fits with the soft classic I thought I was in kibbe.
Wow, I’m a straight! I didn’t do the quiz, but I have no hips, no neck, a high booty, and I had to get breast reduction surgery 20 years ago for back aches because my boobs were too big. Sounds very straight to me lol.
Hi Jenn, I love ur vids! Off-topic but I hope u can make a video on Sanpaku eyes (3 whites). I'd like to hear ur thoughts on it, any make-up or hair tips❤
Noted! I do have a video on Anya Taylor-Joy that talks a little bit about the whites being very visible and what you can do about it so check it out if you haven't already!
I didn't really understand some of the questions. The one with the hands really threw me as did the one for the wrist. I didn't know what they were asking so I skipped them. But I got mostly Cs with one B for a long neck. I don't know how much it will help me choose clothing. I know what looks good one me and what doesn't.
I can explain the wrist one. Imagine you cut your hand at the wrist and view the cut flesh from the top. If it’s almost a circle then you’re A. If it’s an oval then you’re a B. If you have a bone sticking out on the side of your wrist then you’re a C.
Finally, a system that makes sense for my body! Kibbe never fit me. I am short. But, I am not a delicate with small feet and hands. I have broad, strong shoulders, short neck and big chest. If I put on soft ruffles I literally look ridiculous…like a linebacker in ruffles. My eyes and mouth are not like a romantic, they are smaller and straighter. Although, when I am thinner, I look kind of like an hourglass, with tiny waist…but not a rounded bottom. I have always though I look and feel best in straighter lines, a more structured fabric and solids. For me, this confirms what I have been thinking. And just like Madonna, if I put on floaty fabrics and ruffles, they over power me and look so foreign on me.
Yes, pleas make video about patterns. For me patterns and colors assiged to the body types are BS. I'm N/SN but patterns and boho style absolutely don't do me any good, 'cause I have very subtle facial features and soft color pallete.
I'm a FG and got wave as result, so for me it kinda makes sense in a way, because I'm petite, but I need more structure in at least one item of my clothing soo idk ...
I couldn't quite understand if I'm a flamboyant gamine or soft gamine. Kibbe system always comfuses me with too many details, it's kinda impossible to fit into descriptions. This system though seems more obvious, at least for me. Recognized myself in natural type description pretty easily 👍
I’m definitely the straight type - a dramatic classic. However I’m not voluptuous, and my bust tends to be a bit lower, not higher. But I do have the high hip/ short torso. This creates a problem, having a short waist and lower bust. There is no room in the middle. So I can’t tuck shirts in, which would give me a cleaner line. I’m learning that dresses are better than skirts and tops. It’s tough to find them though.
I will say as an Asian person, this is BY FAR the easiest system to identify with. I align nearly perfectly with the straight type. That said, Kibbe has much more information about the variety of textures, fabric weights, colors, and proportions suitable for each image ID, and though it took me MUCH longer to figure out where I landed, I have since really enjoyed getting to use such a robust system.
I was kind of all over the place with the test on Reddit (1 C, 2 As and 4 Bs). So I should be a wave-to-straight but I also feel like I overall fit more with the description of Straight. I've thought of myself as pure Romantic as well since I found the system.
So, up until now, I thought myself to be a flamboyant natural in kibbe. It fit well. I took this quiz which put me at about 70% straight and 30% natural. So many of the characteristics of the straight fit me better than any others i've seen and found myself saying "that's me!" Over and over again lol. Looking at both this and kibbe, i can see where i could fit into both but what has me confused is the types of outfits for a straight vs natural are completely different and i'm struggling to fit middle ground. I gravitate towards loose, over-sized clothing and I can not handle wearing any at all constricting, but i can see how a little structure could help me a lot. Anyone else?! 😂
I don’t understand what the “streak” is referring to, would love some clarity on that. I’m a mix of mostly A and some C, short body, high hips and bust, but pretty solid bone structure. I prefer clothing styles from C but use some things from A as well.
the test gave me mostly C, but I know that oversize clothes look terrible on me. I could maybe pick more B in the test, but I know that classic clothes look best on me. So this test gave me more confusion than even Kibbe 😅
Actually, Ms Futakami herself asserts there is no mixed type. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/alYvuHAQQaA/видео.htmlsi=J0x0pBGFxmuaVhL1 I became interested in this system some time ago and I've watched dozens of videos on this topic, and my impression is that when asked, Japanese specialists choose one convenient parameter, declare it the most important and say it decides the type. In some cases I personally find it even more confusing, because it doesn't encompass the variety of body types, especially outside of Japan.
I fit into natural with almost all Cs, but oversized clothing and thicker fabrics as a rule tend to look really bad on me. I have a pretty standard rule that my garments need to be tailored, and if I'm wearing anything with any flow, it needs balance with something structured, tight, and revealing, (chiffon shirt with short skirt, long skirts paired with a low cut blouse, etc.). Heavy fabrics make me look frumpy and about 30 pounds heavier than I am.
The 2 sistems are confusing for me. I'm 5,8 of height, but my body is wavy, no curvy. I'm soft and wavy to be a dramatic, so narrow to be a FN and no enought curvy to be a SD, because i'm tall, skinny, but wavy.
You are doing a great job! However... 😉this system just proves my take on Kibbe, I don't fit neatly into the defined buckets! 😆 Examples: I am 5'5", small head (I look tall), long neck, delicate & boney, very high waisted & high, small bust, very long rise (waist to crotch, I need 12" rise in jeans to fit my body), prominent violin hips (AKA hip dips). In this Asian system I would be a Wave, but in Kibbe I'm torn between Flamboyant Gamine and Dramatic Classic (opposite clothing recommendations). I resemble Audrey Hepburn in many ways. Where's my bucket? 😆
@@stylerefinement thx, yes, but... 😉... Wave is not a good fit for high chest & waist, and I've even seen a few comments over the years that Audrey might have actually been taller (5'7"), and might really be more of a Dramatic Classic. 🤷 So I remain a bucket skeptic. 💖 your channel.
Kibbe Dramatic, but definitely more in the "Natural" category in this system. But the suggestions seem to clash since natural lines tend to look sloppy on a kibbe dramatic. Really the only thing they have in common is the long vertical.
I want to learn more! I love the romance and femininity of ruffles, puff sleeves, rushed and pleats but look terrible in those styles. I look much better in clean, straight lines because I’m curvy enough! 😂
Funny, I very clearly fall into the wave type - long neck, long torso, delicate small bone structure - but I am a classic (leaning dramatic classic) in kibbe. The recommendations that have to do with long neck and long torso are correct for me (boat necks, high waisted skirts and pants) but the recommendations for fabric type and patterns are a bit iffy. I do think I look good in flowy girly skirts in solid colors, but anything poofy or overly intricate like lace looks silly.
Same! I am dc I assume, fairly tall 171cm), very slim, Long torso and neck with thickish thights. Here I was mostly B with some C but I don‘t really See myself in recommendations for B.
Good synopsis! I’m in 2 categories. Prominent collarbone, short torso (first type) but hippy/big bum (second type). Anyone else? Also can’t figure out my kibbe type either. 🤷🏻♀️
The classification makes sense (3 types of clothing basically), but I took the test and resulted in wave with a little of natural, and wave style of clothing does not suit me at all, straight would make more sense with the wave smaller prints perhaps. I have tested classic (towards dramatic classic probably) and that dressing style fils better for me
This makes me wonder if there is a need for respective systems for different ethnic groups. I feel like this system doesn't really resonate that well with certain African bodies.
I tried the quiz and could have been any 3 of the types based on how I changed the answer to one question (which I did not understand. I mean, knee caps? What on earth are they trying to say?)
I'm the straight type and a tall version. Kibbe would make me either D, SD or FN though experience tells me the FN recs are awful on me. Because I am nearly 5'10 I would be in danger of Kibbe styling me as FN. LOL In Kibbe's system not all short people are gamine but most tall people are FN.
Hm, I got Wave, all B's, but cannot be classified "petite" in any way due to my height, 174 cm...? Or my "usual" body type, so I'm a bit confused ;) (In Kibbe I'm probably SN, FN or SD, but having a very hard time figuring it out.)
I don't think that these body types have anything to do with height (there are tall Waves out there), but more so how sharp / narrow / delicate your bone structure is! Interesting to hear that you suspect to be a Natural in Kibbe and also got all B's in your answers, because being a Kibbe Natural would mean your bone structure is blunt (actually in both systems I think you'd have blunt bone structure 😄)
@@stylerefinement Well, maybe I'm not a Natural at all, it's just my height that seems to shove me in there ;) (which I why I don't like Kibbe much, anyway). In the Kibbe quiz, I got mostly C's for bone structure, but as you see I'm too tall for a Classic in Kibbe. Confusing! But I answered all the questions honestly in this 3 body body type quiz, all B's, and am definitely a Wave in it.
I think these two systems just work on the opposite principles - Kibbe aims to emphasize natural characteristics of each body, and this system tries to bring it all to some general idea of a balanced body shape by hiding whatever is standing out.
Learning about this system vs Kibbe, I wondered if it's the cultural difference that one side focuses on "enhancing" while the other focuses on "balancing"
Hmm, I think I’m going to have to do more research to understand. I’m very very consummate SD-my body is looking more and more like Anita Ekberg as I lose weight-and I got quite clearly wave type which I don’t think I have? There is a lot of delicacy in my wrists and legs but I don’t know how much I understand, I could have typed myself wrong. I definitely haven’t considered myself delicate in a while… Interesting 😅
I think the delicacy is really in the bone structure itself rather than the overall feel :) Like how I would never ever feel delicate regardless of my weight because I have thick bones!
Ah, the reddit link is broken! 😢 The good news is, I saw the outfit types and automatically picked the one I would wear. Then I saw the mannequins and saw the one I was most like. I guessed wavy for both. And yes, I fit the criteria. I think (not sure) that I am a SC but could have some gamine for sure. Def not natural, and not straight either.
I like this better then kibbe. I’m still confused as to what I am. Haha straight? Or natural? I was confused between DC and N in kibbe so same difference in a way.
I feel like, if Kibbe is too complex and confusing, this system is too simplified and confusing. But I love learning about other people’s systems, so yay a new rabbit hole!
Hahaha yes a new rabbit hole ❤
Kibbe is really not that complicated, especially if you start with your height to narrow it down. For example, if you are under 5'5" you can really only be Soft Natural, Romantic, Soft Classic, or a Gamine type. Aly Art's videos break it all down in a really helpful way.
@@lizzy-wx4rx kibbe is complicated to a lot of people, but I didn’t say it was complicated to me. But thanks for the lesson. I feel so much better now.
@@rebeccajordan4491 So sorry I misunderstood your comment. It was an honest mistake, no offense intended.
@@rebeccajordan4491what a strange response to that incredibly helpful comment. Also, your comment clearly implies that Kibbe is too complex TO YOU.
Agreed
As an African American, Kibbe Dramatic, this system didn't resonate with me. I guess it's because I'm not voluptuous, frame dominant, nor petite. But I'm happy if others are able to benefit from this system.
If you’re a dramatic, doesn’t that just mean straight long lines look best? So basically the high fashion stuff?
@@gummy5862 Technically yes, but being 5'11.5 finding things that are "long enough" and cut right has been extremely difficult. My nicer pieces have been custom made,it's expensive. And honestly your Kibbe type doesn't always fit with your personality. My body might be "high-fashion" but my personality is more chill.
Are you sure you’re a pure dramatic? Naturals are also tall hence whymost models tend to be naturals.
I read the reddit article and I'm shocked! For the first time I am textbook something in a body type system 😮
I am a straight type and I was already applying most of the tips. Also that answers the question of why extremely feminine garments always looked off, even mature on me
I'm glad you found the system helpful! ❤
Good Luck 🤞🤞😊😊
this was so easy to understand! i'm only 5 feet tall, and 100 lbs but i never quite fit in with kibbe's choices and i immediately saw my body in the wave type. thank you!
Me too, the middle body form in the image that she used a few times had my exact shape - especially the thighs
I'm glad the video helped! ❤
I'm glad you found the video helpful! ❤❤❤
Thank you for the comment ❤ Wow I'm excited to hear that you've studied at the actual school of the founder! So cool
I'm glad you found the video helpful! ❤❤❤
I'm glad you found the video helpful! Thank you for the encouraging words ❤❤❤
I’m so blessed I found your channel!!😭❤️ Thank you so much for all the work you do, I can finally understand typing systems
Me too, I love how Jenn make everything so simple and interesting! We love U, Jenn ❤.
Aw thank you so much ❤❤❤
Girl ❤❤❤❤❤
I'm glad you found the video helpful! ❤❤❤
@@stylerefinement thanks Jenn, love your channel
A new rabbit hole lol! I'm glad you liked the video ❤
Same! I noticed that extremely simple garments look best on me, just completed with a small interesting detail. The moment I try to wear something "extra", it looks ridiculous. Which is sad, because I love a bit of extra. I guess my body is already a bit extra, lol xD
I feel exactly the same @@happytofu5
Your hair looks awesome, Jenn. I'm a flamboyant natural and this system echoes that. I enjoy new ways of typing because it's fun. Thank you for this video.
Thank you so much for the compliment! Glad the video was fun ❤
I'm glad the system worked for you! I got mostly C's and some A's so I'm a Natural in this system with some Straight characteristics as well!
That’s so interesting. Thank you a lot. I am quite tall (5,7) but didn’t fit the kibbe type for tall people at all and diagnosed myself as flamboyant gamine (in the end) Now I typed myself as wavy and I guess everything makes more sense to me now 😊
I'm glad you found it helpful! ❤
I'm exactly the same as you! Text book wave and also 5'7. I finally feel seen lol
It's on my list (I just have A LOT on my list to go through lol) ❤❤❤
Helpful! I haven’t resolved on a Kibbe type but feel confident that in this system I’m a Straight.

“Wine” you is so much more with it than “wine” me 😆
Can’t wait for you to tap into the 7 essences if you’ll ever want to or consider it!
My next video is on Kitchener Essences ❤
Yes the list is growing which is good since I literally have ideas for the next few months now lol! I've been meaning to create a poll to ask everyone which topic you'd be interested in the most hehe
I found that the straight style tips of V-neck and fitted match what I have found to work for me over the years. So, I enjoyed this comparison and your explanation.
I'm glad you liked the video! :)
As an Asian, who is very short (5’0”), old (60’s) and overweight (bottom heavy, not evenly distributed)… I’m still looking to find my place in any system. 😢 I do appreciate your simple explanations and find it helpful.
It's not easy and it's certainly a journey!
Thank you so much! Looks like it's the Only system so far to which I fit perfectly: it's explicitly gives characteristics of all cloth items, that(I think) look good on me. 🙇♀
Which type are you?
@@swhat9203 straight type
Glad it helped!
I agree that it's good to have knowledge about both systems so you can incorporate what you can from both sides!
Fair point about how the body collects fat differently as we age!
This helped me. I appreciate the work that you put into your videos. I also appreciate the lack of background music. I have an audio processing problem, so background music with narratives can be a problem.
Glad it helped! ❤️
This is great! I was finally able to classify my body and it wasn’t confusing like Kibbe. I am 💯 “straight”. With the Kibbe system, I thought I was “soft natural” but that classification never felt totally comfortable. Thanks!
I'm glad you found the video helpful! ❤
In the kibbe world I was really torn i couldn't settle on a type I knew I'm not gamine or pure dramatic, definitely don't need to accommodate curve that much so i was left with classic and natural aspects of both these types work for me I found this test super helpful I got even B's and C's
I'm glad you found the video helpful! ❤
I would be interested in different systems
Ready to have my mind blown by your knowledge...
Hope you liked the vid! ❤
Interesting! Didn't resonate as much as Kibbe/Kitchener does for me. I'm self diagnosed SN lol but when I took the quiz, I came up w "natural" but as you did the description one by one I felt much more pulled to "straight". Always interesting to learn another self analysis method!
This makes soo much sense for what I’ve discovered looks good on me!!
Patterns YES! It's a whole topic of its own ❤
I really appreciate your videos & can’t imagine why anyone would pick on you, your models are perfect illustrations of the point you are trying to make, you are talking about geometry not color FGS! 😂 Hopefully the trolls wills go back under the bridge…. Keep up the good work! Thank You!
Thanks so much for this 😊❤
I think I do understand the Kibbe system quite well by now and this one is a bit confusing to me to be honest.
I agree! I enjoy learning about the different systems because it's interesting to see how there are methods that can accommodate everyone in a different way ❤
So interesting! I do appreciate that you include Asian examples bc I'm Asian and need those examples! 😅💕
Your hair looks really good lately, it's dark but it still looks illuminated somehow, your secret please, haha😊it's like a really nice length also.
Thank you so much!! I've been trying really hard to grow it and fighting the urge for a haircut haha. I've been using Moroccan Oil + Coconut Milk as a leave-in which is leaving my hair looking healthier ❤
I loved this system!!! Thank you so much! I'm straight with natural type mixed in :) This was cool!!
I'm glad you liked the video! I'll be creating more deep-dive videos for each of the body types in the future ❤
It's definitely simpler which I liked the most about this system! I'll be making more videos deep-diving into each of the body types ❤
A small print on a large body or vice versa could look off (unless that's what you're going for)
I like your perspective on Patterns - interesting!

I'm glad you find this helpful! ❤
Pear shaped, apple shaped, hourglass shape or inverted triangle shaped and can dress accordingly. Easy peasy
You're a life saver!
I'm glad you liked the video! ❤
Yes, pleas make video about patterns. For me patterns and colors assiged to the body types are BS. I'm N/SN but patterns and boho style absolutely don't do me any good, 'cause I have very subtle facial features and soft color pallete.
Oh, wow, I 100% relate to the wavy type and am most likely SG and pear shaped.
I'm a FG and got wave as result, so for me it kinda makes sense in a way, because I'm petite, but I need more structure in at least one item of my clothing soo idk ...
This is very helpful, thank you so much!!
You're so welcome! ❤
I couldn't quite understand if I'm a flamboyant gamine or soft gamine. Kibbe system always comfuses me with too many details, it's kinda impossible to fit into descriptions. This system though seems more obvious, at least for me. Recognized myself in natural type description pretty easily 👍
I'm glad you found it helpful! ❤
I agree that it was easier for me to identify with this system than Kibbe as well!
I agree that it may not be for everyone :)
Actually, Ms Futakami herself asserts there is no mixed type. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/alYvuHAQQaA/видео.htmlsi=J0x0pBGFxmuaVhL1
I became interested in this system some time ago and I've watched dozens of videos on this topic, and my impression is that when asked, Japanese specialists choose one convenient parameter, declare it the most important and say it decides the type. In some cases I personally find it even more confusing, because it doesn't encompass the variety of body types, especially outside of Japan.
Thank you for this! ❤❤❤
Interesting!
From my view
Wave type would be Yoona a Korean celebrity (soft classics, romantics)
Straight type Jihyo from twice
Natural Lisa from black pink
The test didn't work for me, it pretty much was a little of all 3 but I wasn't sure of my answers.
Love this. Thank you.
Examples: I am 5'5", small head (I look tall), long neck, delicate & boney, very high waisted & high, small bust, very long rise (waist to crotch, I need 12" rise in jeans to fit my body), prominent violin hips (AKA hip dips). In this Asian system I would be a Wave, but in Kibbe I'm torn between Flamboyant Gamine and Dramatic Classic (opposite clothing recommendations). I resemble Audrey Hepburn in many ways.
Where's my bucket? 😆
You definitely sound like a Wave in this system! Audrey Hepburn is a FG so if you resemble her a lot you might be close to FG?
@@stylerefinement thx, yes, but... 😉... Wave is not a good fit for high chest & waist, and I've even seen a few comments over the years that Audrey might have actually been taller (5'7"), and might really be more of a Dramatic Classic. 🤷 So I remain a bucket skeptic.
💖 your channel.
Very interesting, thanks.
I don’t really believe in the Kibbe system, every such analysis gives me a different type. Thanks for giving this alternative❤
You're very welcome!
I think I’m Soft Natural, but trying out this system I’m a WAVE! It feels very accurate! Make sense as an Asian person hahaha, thanks Jen!
I'm glad it was helpful! ❤
Deep dive videos coming soon ❤
I do think that patterns especially are so tricky and personal!
Can u make maybe a video about styling deep set eyes and or closer set eyes? Like haircut choice, maybe make up choices...tysm!
Noted! :)
Good synopsis! I’m in 2 categories. Prominent collarbone, short torso (first type) but hippy/big bum (second type). Anyone else? Also can’t figure out my kibbe type either. 🤷🏻♀️
Again, a very interesting video 👏 I got majority B with one or two As . I'm SG in kibbie
I'm glad you found it interesting ❤ Makes me wonder if my theory about Gamines being closest to Wave type is true :P
Fair point! The system did originate from Japan so it could be more fitting for East Asian bodies
I tried the quiz and could have been any 3 of the types based on how I changed the answer to one question (which I did not understand. I mean, knee caps? What on earth are they trying to say?)
I do agree some of the questions are quite confusing lol
I'm the straight type and a tall version. Kibbe would make me either D, SD or FN though experience tells me the FN recs are awful on me. Because I am nearly 5'10 I would be in danger of Kibbe styling me as FN. LOL In Kibbe's system not all short people are gamine but most tall people are FN.
Tall people can be FN, D or SD.
I’m a Kibbe Dramatic with a Straight body type! Makes sense for me
I think these two systems just work on the opposite principles - Kibbe aims to emphasize natural characteristics of each body, and this system tries to bring it all to some general idea of a balanced body shape by hiding whatever is standing out.
Learning about this system vs Kibbe, I wondered if it's the cultural difference that one side focuses on "enhancing" while the other focuses on "balancing"
U always have my back Jenn 😭
I got you ❤❤❤
If I'm a flamboyant gamine which one would I be? I feel like my body bone structure is more natural
Very interesting ❤❤
Glad you found it interesting!
I love that you use a lot of east Asian examples, because in the US, it's the east Asians who are typically excluded from fashion channels
I never could understand Kibbe. I even bought his book and didn’t figure it all out.
interesting... Kibbe R and maybe Wave on this one (except the long torso). I do feel like none of the types are quite it for me in this system
I'm mostly Natural in this system but have some Straight tendencies as well. I think it's normal for you to be a mix of 2 types :)
I'm a Dramatic Classic but closer to Wave here, I think
