A big misconception with Kibbe is that people think that the whole point is "wear this or you will never look good". When really, it's about giving you the information and tools to help you achieve any look you are going for.
I think people get thrown off by the masculine and feminine terminology, and get their feelings hurt. If you look into Taoism and the concepts of yin and yang, they don’t mean what we think of, we don’t have exact translations. Even though a tall woman has som yang that doesn’t make them manly, or unsexy at all ☺️ yang is not bad!
I understand what you mean and I am one of the people who feel a little ”hurt”. I understand the concept, but it’s so sad that society favors certain bodies more than others. As an FN I know I have company with super models, but I’m just average while models ofc look super good. So I just feel like a pile of blunt bones without the yin delicacy. That makes me sad, and I’ve never had terms for it, but now I do. And I’m not sure that’s a good thing or not. I think I’ll change perspective over time, seeing as male FN’s look hooooot, and apparently you’re most likely to pair up with the same type 🥵🥰
This was so helpful! As a 5 ft 10 girl I was hesitant to label myself as flamboyant natural (even though I have most of the traits of a FN) as I don’t really see myself as “looking tall” but now I see it’s not really possible to look short at that height Makes so much sense thank you!
It's not possible to look short (although at least 5'8'' Rihanna is persistently typed as TR), but it's possible to look shorter enough to fit into moderate height types. Neither tall people may appear petite, nor petite people can appear like giants, except in Kibbe's biased world.
Yes, it’s not possible to look short or moderate above 5’8. They may not feel they look tall, because none of us can see ourselves objectively, and we also shouldn’t trust pictures (angles distort things). But for short women, there are some who can pull off long lines, wear heels, and you wouldn’t think she’s short until she takes off her heels and actually stands right next to you...so they can have a taller vertical line (like Sarah Jessica Parker).
@@blueice011 When Rihanna was typed as TR she was a teenager, and Kibbe never actually met her. He himself said that typing is mainly for women who are 25 and over (and already fully ‘developed’), and in those old teen pictures Rihanna did look small then. He made the same mistake when he typed Charlize Theron through a picture.
@@fatoumfatoumeh So, if I understood you correctly, only short women may appear as tall as they like thanks to high heels and slender figure, but taller ones can't appear even moderate, not even in photos (another privilege of petite women only)? Everyone can appear all sorts of different ways in photos, in personal contact the reality hits. No hair style or heel height will make anyone appear 5 inch taller once they are standing in front of you and you can actually see how tall they are and what kind of footwear and hair style they are wearing. Goes for everybody equally, tall or short. Just like short woman can wear heels and updo, tall one can too. And they usually do. So seeing them standing next to each other is rather revealing. Both short and tall people can have short or long vertical line - meaning appear taller/shorter than they actually are, until seen in person. Yes, even if they are over 5'8'' or 6'7''. It’s amazing how different is being 5’ 2” as SN compared to other 5’2” friends of mine that are R, TR or G. I can totally get away with long coats, oversized sweaters.
Exactly. :) I'm 159 cm but very obviously a soft natural. Oversized sweaters are absolutely perfect, I've started to think I shouldn't wear anything else. :D Before I knew the Kibbe system I gravitated towards gamine clothes, cause that's what I often saw on short women - and I thought it made sense: short woman, short, tailored clothes. God, those clothes look absolutely the worst on me. :D So I'm very glad I found this channel and the Kibbe system.
Just here to say, over sized sweater isn't a "line", it is an element. It can be used on flamboyant gamine, natural, dramatic, and so forth. It depends on how you dress it, with what kind of other elements. Hence, understanding your lines is important.
I haven’t finished the video yet, but I had to comment that I’m so glad you’re saying that the name of your type doesn’t define your style. It took me longer than it should have to figure out that I’m a soft natural because I hated the stereotype of natural. I didn’t want to wear earth tones, rugged Western or hippi clothing. I didn’t like earthy or ethnic chunky jewelry. I’m more attracted to a romantic sense of style, and I was very sad thinking that I will never look good in the things I like. Eventually I decided to throw those stereotypes in the trash. I can wear classic looking jewelry, but instead of structured bangles, I wear layered tennis bracelets so it looks more loose and unstructured. I bought some sweaters in romantic colors I like with lace, but they’re draped and loose to suit my natural side. And I can wear sharp, winged eyeliner, I just make sure the rest of my makeup isn’t too “done” looking. So either sharp wings or bold lips, but not both. It seems I’ve found this balance that makes me happy. But it still bothers me when I see a board for the types and all the natural looking items are rigged and ugly.
It’s a misconception that there are “recommendations” or styles that are specific for a certain image ID. When Kibbe says “lines” he means that when you dress you follow the lines of your silhouette regardless of what style you’re wearing. As a natural you can definitely wear “romantic” styled clothing as long as the clothing is accommodated after your frame as a natural.
This was excellent. I’m finally understanding. I think I’ve needed to except things. I’m 5’11”, I have red thick curly hair, people tell me I look like Nicole Kidman, strangers stop and tell me that. I see now, I’m most comfortable in flamboyant natural styled clothes. The more I hear you talk, the more I see and understand. It’s really hard for me to self analyze myself.
Everybody suits certain looks, nobody suits every look. Most of us know what suits us, and have figured out our style based on what we like and what suits us. And this guide is exactly what it is a guide.
Also re what you were saying about women breaking the rules successfully i was thinking about this also as it seemed similar in the art world. How the early impressionists who softened the rules and began abstracting them and then later abstract artists who completely broke the rules, its the ones who knew how to paint classically could then play around more succesfully and still create something beautiful. Perhaps it is so in all areas of art, and life. X
It’s really interesting with those long vertical lines! My boyfriend and I are both 5‘8, I‘d say I am a Natural and he is a Flamboyant Gamine. Long vertical lines Look sooooo good on me, I live for long coats, dresses, skirts, monochrome outfits etc, I look 5’11 with them but in a good way. He looks ridiculous with the same types of clothing, like he’s wearing his big brother’s coat or something. He looks good in funky street wear with rolled up sleeves and stuff that I could never pull off. It’s just really interesting how different clothing fits even if you’re the same height!
I've always been jealous of D-looking people who can pull off long lines, geometry and colour blocking. But after taking the Kibbe test I stopped having these destructive feelings towards others. I love your tall beauty, positive vibes. For an artist, you would be a pleasure to draw.
You're gorgeous!! I'm 5'5 and I kinda wish I was either 5'2" or like 5'11". Being 5'5-5'7 is weird because you're not considered short or tall, you're just there. 😂
ahhh I could relate to you a few months ago but in a bit different way. I was lying to myself about my kibbe type for so long because I desperately wanted that long vertical line (I'm 5'4 and TR I think) when I was exploring all of these kibbe forums and videos, it has come to my attention that many tall women are wanting to look short and my mind was blown... tall women are so cool, imo almost any clothes look good on them, weight fluctuations are not that noticeable. Tall person just looks more graceful and ?reliable? than a shorter one I guess everybody is jealous of one another haha.. I'm glad that I accepted myself and I hope all tall women will realize how charming and sophisticated they are
@@burpie3258 Utter rubbish. Sorry. Neither can look their opposite. But both tall and short people may appear shorter or taller - enough to appear moderate in height, or not so tall/short as they actually are.
I've been following you for years and your passion for sharing Kibbe's information has definitely changed my style for the best! Just understanding the specifics makes so much sense to me! Thank you Aly! You are truly a multi-talented woman!😍
Thank god! Been so confused about this for over a year! I'm 5' 10 and I'm pretty sure I'm a SD after this. As you say I don't feel I look particularly tall at a glance but next to other people I always look big, not just tall, just big and heavy, even though I am not overweight I have that soft fleshiness and curves whilst being tall. I always feel big. I always wish I was a petite girl but it wasn't meant to be. I like SD style but I've got a lot to learn, never know if I'm going for the right things. This has been sooooo helpful thank you!!!
I'm still trying to figure myself out, but this is SO helpful! The pics of Taylor Swift wearing a gamine style and the Olsen girl with an attempt at a long vertical line that just swamps her, really illustrates how fashion can help you or be against you. Thank you!
Seriously one of the best videos you have ever done 😍 I have really been thinking about what you've said in your previous videos regarding height/frame/curve dominance. And while this isn't a perfect formula or test, I did for my own fun create a "potential guideline" of what kibbe body type one might have based off of their dominant trait: (Tall) height = Dramatic (Tall) height + Curve = Soft Dramatic (Wide) frame = Natural (Wide) frame + (tall) height = Flamboyant Natural (Wide) frame + curve = Soft Natural Undecided about Classic, but in theory "Symmetry = Classic", so: Symmetry + (tall) height = Dramatic Classic Symmetry + curve = Soft Classic Curve = Romantic Curve + (Narrow) Frame = Theatrical Romantic (Narrow) Frame = Gamine (Undecided) (Narrow) Frame + Height = Flamboyant Gamine (Narrow) Frame + Curve = Soft Gamine Nothing to take too serious, but it helped me determine that I am SN, as I am wide frame dominant in my shoulders, with curve as a close secondary dominance. Height isn't even a thought 😂 Hope this helps! Aly, thank you for the inspiration 😊🤗
@@darjadrake4210 You are so welcome! I think the Gamines might be a little off, but it is still a fun process to get away from the meticulous details, and instead just to look at the overall line. Thank you!
I like this a lot. I'm narrow and short from the waist up, and tall & curvy from the waist down. Look taller than I am. Measured the height of my head @8.25" vs overall height and I'm over 8.5 heads tall yet just under 5'5". Always been confused. I'm thinking Gamine tops (tucked/tied/cropped) with fitted/Peplum jackets & long trumpet skirts are a good look on me, so guessing FG is the closest a la Audrey Hepburn. Opinions?
14:13 SO true!!! Knowledge is power! If you are strategic and conscious of the choices you make, you will always do it better than someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing, or someone who’s getting led aimlessly by the nose by trends. Thank you Aly for your educated videos!
I am 170cm and when I weighed 98kg I still looked taller on the pics next to my friends. Thats bc of proportions, (abnormally) long arms and legs. I looked more square but not shorter at all. I hesitated a lot, but objectively I look like no other type but FN 🤪
I found love to see a video on how to pull off styles from other types. For example, I’m a FN but I prefer SD lines. Glamorous styles look a little over the top on my body type.
It is because we have no idea how to analyse bodies not having a view for the detail. YT videos and the reddit group helped me to understand. Without that I would have never ever been able to tell the different ways of shoulders and similar.
Please make a video about short waisted and long waisted woman. I'm 5'7 but my legs are rather short and I have a very long torso. I can't manage to style it
My tip for you is to wear hightwaisted clothes. That way your legs will appear to be longer than they really are. It will make you look taller too. Give it a try and let me know how it goes. 😊
@@rosyvilla6141 Agreed. I'm 5'6 & I wear high waisted jeans. They actually look like normal jeans. But if you wear low rise (like Hollister jeans) it will elongate your torso. Also bootcut/wide leg high waisted jeans will balance out a long torso as well by adding more weight to the bottom.
@@rosyvilla6141 I only wear high waisted clothes!!! but the problem is that I have very narrow hips and like the flattest butt ever, so wearing high waisted jeans etc. makes me look hideous, plus my calves are super short so wearing dresses is like a big no 😢
I personally hit the wall of the labels and styles. I'm still not sure what my body type is (partly because I view myself as a romantic but am 5'6 and definitely don't fit all the criteria) I do have a greater understanding now thanks to your videos and the discussion around lines and how to play with proportions. I'd love a video series about how to dress the types in different styles, i.e. what lines to use to make a dramatic appear more childlike, or what a gamine can do to look more severe.
A lot of Kibbe vloggers teach that Style (or aesthetic/essence) is the only rule. One is very popular and called Taylor Swift a gamine because of her colorful, short outfits. Taylor is a giant! Lol. I think they’re confusing people.
Taylor Swift is a pure Dramatic with Ingenue essence (she does have ‘girlish’ facial features and yes, her overall vibe is youthful). It’s soooo misleading for her to be typed as Gamine of any sort 🤦🏻♀️
@@fatoumfatoumeh Agreed. Certainly people can pull off various styles with their body types. For example Jada Pinkett Smith looks great in damn near everything! But she’s certainly not a dramatic
This is something I think about a lot. I am 5'1, once I was talking to someone who has only seen me in pictures and they thought I was around 5'8 for some reason. I don't know if it's my proportions or the way I dress. On the other hand, I took a video of my brother (6'1) and he looked extremely shorter in comparison, my thought was the shirt he was wearing reached his mid thighs so maybe that dragged his height down if that makes sense.
Lenses have distortions. A photograph will never show exactly what a person sees in real life. If you see a beautiful moon and try to make a photo of it with your mobile, you will notice how different it looks.
its your proportions. while if taken correctly, some one short with a short vertical line would only look moderate in height in a well taken photo, but someone short with a long vertical line will look quite tall if the photo is taken correctly. i take photos of myself (i am not good at taking photos) and people still think i am quite tall even though i am only 5 foot. Most people in real life think i am taller than that when having a conversation with me. anyone i tell i am 5 foot they're always like "no way! i thought you were atleast 5'4"." if they've only seen me through photos, it's always 5'7" or taller. i just ignore peoples actual height when figuring out the body type. i go by their visual vertical line. i mean look at rhianna, shes a Flamboyant Romantic and she is 5'8". But she looks soooo much shorter in her photos (you can see it especially well in the paparazzi photos because they aren't being paid to make her look good). You should check out Merriam Styles, I believe she has taken this yin-yang methodology and expanded on it in a MUCH BETTER more modernized way then what kibbe appears to be doing. All he seems to care about anymore is making money and looking like he's the only super special one in the whole wide world who can understand this.
@@MissCaraMint yes, you can minimize it, depending on the distance and the type of less, but it's not going to be like what your eyes see. Unless you manipulate it in Photoshop, for example.
Your vertical is not about your perceived height but about your silhouette from shoulders to knees. So if you have long and straighter lines in you silhouette then you have vertical.
I think genetic background can make a big difference in height, and I wish Kibbe enthusiasts acknowledged that more. For instance, I am definitely a SC (all my answers confirm this, as does feedback from other women, and I clearly look my best in SC lines) but I’m 5’8” which is tall for a woman where I live. It’s not that tall, however, when compared to my African and Nordic ancestors. Most of the people I live around are Hispanic, so my pool of comparison is skewed to the shorter side, and that confused me at first. My height alone led me to think I was a SD for a while. But, with the help of friends/family, I saw how my features are yin/balanced, my hands/feet are petite for my body, and my bone structure is generally moderate/delicate. I have plenty of curves like a SD, but I don’t carry the same beautiful presence as an SD. Plus I look AWFUL in SD lines. Several people have told me I looked “elegant/graceful” or “delicate” so that should have tipped me off to SC. It was only when I ignored my height and looked at every other factor that I discovered the archetype that truly suits me. If I’d listened to a height range, I would still be dressing like crap and not knowing why I looked so odd in everything. Still, I can see how maybe it would help someone who doesn’t know where to start.
So what would you say if I am if I’m 173cm tall (feet8inch) narrow, slim, average proportion of limbs, almost no curves but also not very angular/sharp features…?
I’ve come to the acceptance that I am, in fact, a Dramatic. Which is good I guess, since my style is more to the gothic side, I tend to go for a lot of monochromatic looks (aka black) lol. I think I had a resistance to accept that because most of the D celebrities had a super straight waist and I have a very defined waist. Also Dramatics being called “masculine” is not a characteristic that women tend to like... but I got the idea of yin and yang. I am long and narrow with sharp bones. Glad to finally figure that out 🖤
You've made a great point.. I never understood when people say D is masculine lol because people call long and narrow skinny men feminine. Dramatic women are extremely feminine, womanly and otherworldly looking. We can be sexy vixens, the princess, or badass chicks!
maybe just try looking at what "stands out" in you? do you see width everywhere? then you might be a SN. symmetry? SC. Roundness with zero angularity? Romantic. Hope this helps!
Well, you can cross off either romantic or soft natural by seeing if you look better in fitted clothes or if you can get away with loose clothing. Also, if you can wear chunky knit or not. I'm romantic and I have to wear light weight fitted clothes. Waist emphasis is a must. Oversized clothing drowns me. Chunky knit looks horrible. As far as soft natural vs soft classic... SN looks stronger / more muscled than SC.
@@salehaanjum6325 thank you, that helps. I should have added that I have a lot of unwanted weight, so it's hard to tell what roundness and width is from weight and what's my type. I should lose weight before sorting out my type, but I'll keep your comment in mind. :)
@@Shell.29 Also see how you look in tops or sweaters with ruffles. That only works for Romantics. I'm SN and look very awkward and overdressed in ruffles. And SN look very boring in SC lines. Like fitted tops, straight skirts. SN needs a slouchy, relaxed appearance for our essence to shine. No matter our weight we deserve to dress our best lines to feel good! 😘
It helps by narrowing down what you need to accommodate. There are no recommended clothing tips or styles in Kibbe, but accommodation is necessary. Also, if you’re 5’6” you’re most likely not R.
@@SwedishTourist There is a category between them, no? There is Soft Natural, Natural and Flamboyant Natural. I think she usually uses Jennifer Aniston as example for pure 'Natural'
@@kthy31 You are kind of right, but Kibbe took the pure types away (Gamine, Natural, Classic) and he argues that nobody can be exactly in the middle. You will always lean towards either yin or yang. Aniston is therefore now classified as a soft natural, because she is in the middle but more towards SN. I don’t entirely agree with taking away Natural, because now I sort of lack good guidelines. There is far mor inspiration for SN and FN and that’s the main problem I think I would love more guidelines on how to combine SN and FN seamlessly for a more pure Natural look. Thank god for Aly who have made content on the pure types.
This was sooooo helpful. I’m nearly 5’11. I took the quiz and got almost all “classic” answers. You explained this so well! I can see now that I definitely can’t be classic lol
Height is the part of Kibbe that confused me the most. My only A answers are height and limb length with the rest mostly D, but now I get it, when you’re tall it really dominates the rest of your appearance. Because I’m tall, narrow, and curvy, I’m a soft dramatic. Not theatrical romantic like I thought 😅
if all of your answers were D except height and limb, you are theatrical romantic. just go look at rhianna. TR. she is 5'8" Remember soft dramatic is a VERY specific type. ALL OF YOUR BONE STRUCTURE needs to be answers A or B and most of your flesh is answer D & E to be SD. A TR has all D&E answers with 1-3 A answers. As I am just going by your descriptions here, I highly suggest taking a photo at mid-chest level and having someone help you answers the questions by looking at the picture. It is so hard for us to be objective about ourselves. If your whole skeleton is yang, and all your flesh is yin and your overall look is very pronounced and quite striking instead softer and more delicate then maybe you are SD. You didn't say how tall you are, but if you are like 5'7" that is not tall.
analysis your face and body and look if you have strong broad structure (natural) or small round structure (romantic) if it is small and mostly round with some sharpness (theatrical romantic) or small delicate and sharp (gamine family)
Anastasia by strong do you mean quite muscular? That wouldn’t change your bone structure , for example , David Kibbi typed Madonna as a romantic and she looks like one when she’s young but because she has done so much exercise and is quite muscular now it is less obvious . What do you think ?
I'm pretty sure I know one, maybe two, short Flamboyant Naturals. They are very narrow so they look long, look great with long flowy dresses and hair, and have pronounced shoulders and arm musculature.
I'm 5'5 and I'm so confused. In all those Russian "Kibbe's pages" the girls always says that I'm Romantic or Gamin, because I'm 5'5. And that's so alogical, because none of Romantic or Gamine (or even Natural) recommendations work on me. It just happens that the whole my life I was on this "elongate clothes" side and it actually fits me (although I can wear something straight and petit as well, but it makes my body really weird). So what I'm trying to say is that the biggest problem is that internet is fulled by people who have a pattern in their minds in which they try to collect others. And that's quite a problem because in order to finally find you style you should go the whole circle of useless recommendations and buy the stuff that never complements your body or yourself. So I thank you, Aly, because your unique interpretation makes me feel so confident about which type is really mine. Nowadays I don't struggle anymore and feel myself in Classic or Dramatic Classic recommendation more than confident and actually beautiful. I really thank you for all the work you've done and (I hope) will do !
It’s funny that even though I am 4’11, I always get the results as SC, and I have always dressed in that style anyway. I have tried SG, R, TR styles but they do not suit me as well, especially SG.
I'm 1,63 m (5'4") which is a pretty average height in my country, but I noticed that in pictures I look 5-10 cm shorter and it was very surprising, as I don't feel short at all. It makes sense that my vertical line is short because I'm a TR.
Your videos are so „eye opening“. I‘m definitely a dramatic and now finally know why some clothes look so good on me and why others absolutely dont. Thank you! Greetings from Germany!
I took the test 3 times once alone, once with my mom, and once with my best friend just to make sure (and to tell the about kibbe too) and I always got TR. It looked very accurate to me and to my mom/friend but then I checked my height and I am 2 cm taller. Now I am just lost because I don't really match anything else
I had a similar experience 😊 I’m a very underweight TR plus I’m 167cm. I kept retyping myself but I’m really a TR ☺️ I’m below average height for my ethnic group and I’m very delicate and petite.
I'm 185 (5'11), but it seems to me that I look even bigger when I gain weight, because that way my head looks even smaller compared to my overweight body. I think I'm soft dramatic, but I'm not quite sure. I might be flamboyant natural as well. I just can't see my bone structure that well now when I'm overweight. I don't see the width flamboyant naturals have in me, but maybe I can't observe myself that well.
I'm a 5'6 FN. Took me ages to realize this because I have a moderate hourglass and large breasts, and am not super tall like the stereotype, but I realized SN isn't quite the right match since I need to accommodate for vertical when I dress more than curves. Don't be dissuaded from FN just because it's known as the "runway model" id. Don't be dissuaded from SC/DC because think your nose is crooked or some other detail like that. It boils down to what it is that you have to accommodate for when you dress.
It’s really difficult to type yourself when you’re new to kibbe and above average height and look soft without a strong vertical. I’m 5’9 but look about 5’6 or possibly even shorter due to having a big head and short limbs. I’m also extremely hourglass and look wide so I really don’t have a strong vertical line at all. I look very average. I’ve typed myself very wrongly in the past. When I was new to Kibbe and took the test I wound up thinking that I was “a tall and broad-shouldered romantic” because everything on me looked round (I know now that no such thing exists lol) or a “tall and broad” soft natural. Hearing descriptions like “curve dominant” wasn’t helpful as the first thing that you see when you look at my body is a tiny waist in comparison to my hips and busy line (32H). I’ve come to terms that I’m a large framed and slightly overweight flamboyant natural but damn does it suck when it feels like the recommendations for your type really don’t work for you.
I'm an exception for sure because I'm really small (5'2) and I'm 100% I'm soft natural. Shakira is also soft natural but she's 5'2. Please all of you check everything is not just the height❤️
Yes and Kim K is another SN who is 5’2 (see her pics from 10 years ago). I have a friend who is also 5’2 and SN. It’s a common type for short up to slightly tall girls.
Think I finally get it! Thanks, Aly. I kept getting confused over body structure vs facial structure vs fashion style. Now I can see I’m a Dramatic Classic. Very balanced and moderate in height and bone structure, but tending towards angularity/ sharpness especially in facial features.
Hi Aly. I'm confused about something. Audrey Hepburn was a flamboyant gamine but she was 5'7" however normally gamines are more petite. I agree that she is that body type but are there sometimes exceptions to the height rules? Also, I absolutely love your hair the colour it is now. It's very gorgeous on you and is my favourite.
@@MsJerrySparkle Twiggy was 5'5" wasn't she? I'm pretty sure FG can infact be taller. It's the only explanation. I love Twiggy. Even at 71 she's still gorgeous though not as skinny.
Something I find crucial in determining Kibbe/yin-yang body types that other people ignore or dismiss as useless (???) is head size. It affects our perception of height as much as limb length, if not more. Artists should be familiar with this concept. I doubt a tall type with a proportionally large or moderate head is even possible. At a height like 1.85cm, the head would have to be huge. Meanwhile, short types like gamine tend to have doll-like heads compared to their small, delicate bodies.
I agree. One of the hints to determine between a sn and a romantis or gamines is the head size. Sn have small heads compared to their shoulders and upper bodys. Romantics and gamines have bigger heads so their bodys automatically look more petite.
I think it’s not the largeness of the head, but the small-ness of the body that makes the head appear large? Because having a large head in itself can be seen in any type (for eg. Zendaya is FN, with a large head, but she has the tall body, long neck and wider shoulders to go with it, and she still looks tall even with a larger head). Romantics and Gamines otoh, will have normal sized heads that appear large because their bone structure is smaller/shorter. Also, in a lot of cases, the thinner and narrower someone is, the larger their head is going to look...you can see that in a lot of very thin dramatics and some thin FNs (ie. runaway models).
lol no. It is possible. I have a huge head and I am most likely a natural and thus I look smaller in photos. Similar to Zendaya, her head is large and it makes her look smaller
@@fatoumfatoumeh not sure what you are talking about but i haven't seen any runway models look like they have big heads. nor have i seen any dramatic look like they have a big head. i have only seen a few exceptions in the natural category have bigger heads, because that makes sense there is alot more than goes into being a natural than your vertical line. you can very easily line up pictures of many women who are romantics and pick out those with large heads/small heads. they all will not appear to have larger heads. vertical line is only 1 part of figuring out your type and 1 different answer from the rest will not change your type. thought it will change your visual vertical line. hence why some romantics look taller than others - they have smaller heads.
@@laur-unstagenameactuallyca1587 im sorry but 80% of women i have ever talked to think they have huge heads and broad shoulders. when 50% of them dont have either.......it's almost impossible for most women to look at themselves objectively. he OP is 100% correct. head size has a huge influence in dictating out vertical line. if you have a big head, you will look shorter. if you have a small head, you will look taller. if your head is in proportion with your body - you will look moderate. But the vertical line is only 1 aspect of the test. It looks like you responded directly to the OP, but you seem to be agreeing with her at the same time?
Thank you this. I am one that has been confused about vertical line. I'm 5'3" and told I look 5'8-10" and wide. I don't understand how I can look that much taller than I am if I am also supposed to be wide. I definitely don't resemble Sarah Jessica Parker.
I'm romantic, but i LOVE soft gamine style, for some time, i thought i was soft gamine because i love those clothes, one day, i compared myself to a friend who is a soft gamine and i saw the difference, i am larger and round, that's how i knew i wasn't soft gamine.
People are often offended by the “Yin and yang” but I have always considered myself more Yang and i’ve learned I’m more yang and those are not my favorite things about me. I would encourage someone who doesn’t understand the difference and similarity to inhale and then exhale and tell me which one is more important. Which one is more beautiful, the inhale or the exhale? Because one is yin and the other is yang.❤️
I believe I’m a Soft natural, because I’m very average. Average height, average build. But not as “lean” as a natural, I tend to look rounder. Round arm fat, round thigh fat. But I’m still so skeptical. Aly would you possibly make a video evaluating your subscribers? We send you full body pictures and according to your knowledge you help us out! edit: I’m 5’4 but I’m constantly told I look 5’6 or 5’7 and I honestly think I can look it in pictures. Whenever I tell people I’m only 162cm they disagree with me! Even if they’ve seen me in person, they say I’m taller.
If that’s you in the profile pic, you’re giving me Mila Kunis and TR vibes. Also your description of having a more rounded look is more on par with Romantic types. Though they usually do have a short or moderate vertical line. Have you considered that or tried the lines?
@@Keapix no, I have a very small bust, and just my chest in general isn’t very large, not even in width. Which makes buying shirts hard for me, bc even small sizes are some what loose around my torso but tight on my arms
Same, and where I am, 5'6" is considered taller than average, but this video is saying it's average, so that confuses me too. I wonder if anything of this takes into account other cultures and regions, but probably not.
Hahahahahahah I love 2:43 I started laughing And 13:19 good bless her, she looks so tiny and grumpy. Ahahh my sense of humor this morning is the worst. All respect to all these lovely beautiful people.
I'm having the same struggle with gamines but I am 5'2 so slightly shorter I also got SC style instead of SN eventhough I don't think I am that symmetrical I have long legs and long hands and short torso with short waist
@allyart What Kibbe type do wide/squarish hips and a very short waist fit in, please?? Along with a *long vertical line/long arms and legs *average height and slim figure, and *classic/balanced face shape/and features, but with with a slightly *prominent/squarish jawline. Thank you :)
I'd really like a video about how to break away from kibbe types in a way that looks good? I know many gamines (particularly in alt Japanese fashion) that dress like naturals, like in loose, oversized clothes, but look great, but at the same time I,as a gamine, look really weird/bad in oversized clothing
If height really matters when typed, then why is Audrey Hepburn a flamboyant gamine, when she is moderately tall (5'7)? Can flamboyant gamines be tall or 5'6 to 5'9?
Your videos are amazing. I love your approach and I learn a lot. Sometimes we think something looks good or bad and can't tell why. I love being able to tell why.
I'm still confused about natural and classic. I think I am a classic. I look good in classic clothes and horrible in unconstructed clothes. What is the main difference between the two?
I love this. It's gives a better description about bone structure bone shape and size to better pin point what works best with your features. But I'm confused I am 5'9 but my body is romantic. I have an hour glass shape but I'm very lean and athletic in my build but still fleshy and soft.
Soft gamines tend to have slightly more fleshier arms, hands and wider feet and hands meanwhile TR hands and feet are narrow, the arms are also slimmer. Necklines for TR is preferred with rounded shapes or sharper lines, meanwhile necklines for SG is preferred higher neck line. TRs shoulders are sloped but tapered SGs shoulders are sharp but not sloped Hope this helped :’)
im 5.8 and i do look moderate. wish i could show you pictures but i do have a big head and big feet and a small torso. wtf is a freak like me supposed to do in kibbe's world? 😂
Just remember that, contrary to what some toxic people say, there IS a difference between height and vertical line. I was 5'8 until my late 20s, and now I'm 5'9. In my pictures I often look moderately tall as opposed to very tall. Does the one inch difference mean that I'm suddenly no longer a SN? That sounds pretty ridiculous to me.
It’s Kibbe that has set the height limit. He apparently now says that at 5’8” and above, you can only be D, SD, or FN. His reasoning is that you are automatically vertical dominant at that height.
@@Keapix Sometimes I wonder if Kibbe is forgetting his own rules. I get that a SG could never be tall, and a short D is pretty rare, but this strict emphasis on height leaves anyone who doesn't fit into the D, SD, and FN categories in the dust. Height is NOT the same as the vertical line. It influences it, but there's a reason why many people can appear taller or shorter than they really are.
Hi, Aly! I love your videos!! I am quite sure I'm flamboyant gamin, cause I'm very short, I've got wide shoulders, but straight waist and hips...I' ve always hated my body type, it's hard finding clothes that fits it, but ,with your advice, that have been changed. Thanks a lot!!!
Yes it’s more about the cut of something than the vibe. I have a wide variety of styles I wear and they all look good, but I can see they all have certain cuts. If that makes sence.
10:50 I get what you’re saying. You can be 5’3 like Sarah Jessica Parker but if you’re very skinny like her, you’ll look taller. I’m 5’3 and 100 lbs and am more boyishly shaped with a flat chest and am flamboyant gamine and have always gravitated towards the bright eclectic colors and prints flamboyant gamines work well in. The mid 60s mod/childish style popularized by Twiggy is a great flamboyant gamine style period to look at, but I don’t like to wear the one color a-line dresses that this period was also popular for. One color a-line dresses make my short and thin narrow shape look even more shapeless.
So good, love it. So im a TR, and im 169cm, which is "tall", my sister is 170cm and an SD, and she looks tall and i dont. One CM in difference. But I look petite next to her. My vertical line is totally eclipsed by my curves. I look so short and stumpy in long vertical line, only if it is hourglass in silhouette. I tried being very thin but even then i couldnt do pure long line. So yes i think especialy if you are in that middle ground re height like not obviously very short or very tall, like you said with Sarah Jessica Parker, then its the line thats important.
It’s so hard for me to tell my type, I am 5’7 so I would say I’m taller than average but I don’t know if I’m am soft classic, dramatic classic, classic or soft dramatic
If you feel truly average in everything (no soft lips, no prominent nose, no prominent cheeks or cheekbones, etc.), then you are average. If you feel mostly average with a softness - Soft Classic, or with a little bit dramatic touch, then dramatic classic. If your vertical line is very strong, but you are not fleshy, then dramatic. If you look like a literal Goddess then you are Soft Dramatic. :)
I thought I had it figured out that I was Natural with the bone and body structure, wider shoulders, larger bone strcture etc. between Jennifer Aniston and Cindy Crawford type of shape yet taller and then I saw your chart for my height of 5' 8-1/2" and I am confused again! LOL
My quick answer to how to tell them appart would be: naturals look muscle-y and square-ish (wide) and soft dramatics look sharper in bones, longer (like a cilinder) but not wide, but with soft "flesh" that doesn't necessarily look lean or flat, like muscles (which is a common natural's trait).
@@bycarolinakobayashi i thought I was a soft natural but with what you just explained I might be a soft dramatic??? I can’t figure it for the life of me 😭
@@bycarolinakobayashi 🙏🏽 thanks. I would guess I’m a Natural then. I have naturally muscular limbs even when underweight and overweight, and my waist line gradually slopes to my hips although they are 12” different in diameter.
@@ASMRAggie you can try different dresses that have clearly defined Body Type's lines. For a Dramatic outfit, try a long straight up-n-down dress with perhaps shoulder pads or that is made from a stiff fabric; and to narrow down to a SD maybe something very long, stiff or thick fabric, deep V neckline that follows your curves elegantly without being too tight (otherwise that would be a Gamine type of look). Whist for a Natural outfit you could try something that softly defines your waist, like a loosely-tucked wasitline, wide and very open neckline in any shape you'd like (but prob. a rounder neckline for a SN element), made from linen or any light/sheer fabric, lots of texture (amazing for Naturals!) or with perhaps a bell-shaped sleeve (that is open and light and wide). Make sure to use the same color that suits you, as it could interfere your judgement. Also, please acklowledge that not every Dramatic look will look just right in every single Dramatic, as everybody has their own yin-yang balance. Make sure the dresses you choose fit you right and are not baggy nor too shapeless. Good luck! And as soon as you try it, could you report back to this comment, please? 😁
There is no lower limit to be a SC (actually there is no lower limit to any type even though D, SD and FN are usually 5'7 or taller) So you totally *can* be a SC, it all comes down to your overall yin/yang balance.
@@evea4527 In other words, the system created by petite guy is biased and caters to petite people. No problem, apart from toxicity directed towards those who are not included equally and are trying to figure the system, not realizing that they are not the problem - physically nor intellectually.
@@blueice011 Well it's just a system like many others. While I do agree that is not as inclusive as it could be and that that is a fair criticism, at the end of the day it's just one of many other options. There's a lot of people who don't find themselves in this system and that's okay, I personally just take what can be useful to me and just disregard the rest.
You look Soft Dramatic in my opinion...tall with rounded curves, and some dramatic features in your face. The cat eye-liner looks perfect on you btw...and it looks best on SD women. SC types don’t look as good in that.
Can you make a video about what happens when we wear lines from other IDs? I think that information can be very useful and fun in order to change our presentation and play with new looks
Other ID's lines will look like a costume on you. It can look good, but not effortless. But you can import the stereotypical "styles" of any type to your outfit if you stick to your lines.
Hello Aly! i have a question for the next Q&A : do you have an idea what kibbe-body type Romy Schneider and french actress Emmanuelle Béart are? Thank you, I love your work :)

Do you have any videos on how to dress etc for long torso?
I am a new patron. Thanks Aly
A big misconception with Kibbe is that people think that the whole point is "wear this or you will never look good". When really, it's about giving you the information and tools to help you achieve any look you are going for.
:) Thanks for the reminder
Agreed... Its truly about knowing ourself, but some people misunderstand it as categorizing..
@@wazihanokshi2414 Yes, most of the anger from people towards David comes from the lack of understanding of the system.
Well said!
So true!
@@SwedishTourist thank you for sharing your perspective. I understand more now about how tall FN girls feel
Yes definitely agree
EXACTLY. everybody has yin and yang, masculine and feminine - men and women.
people just like to get offended about everything.
@@thecozyconstellation They get offended because it makes them feel unattractive or undesirable. People often mask hurt-ness with anger
I'm convinced you are related to Kibbe because you have the body types down to a T, this channel is like a science.
This was so helpful! As a 5 ft 10 girl I was hesitant to label myself as flamboyant natural (even though I have most of the traits of a FN) as I don’t really see myself as “looking tall” but now I see it’s not really possible to look short at that height
Makes so much sense thank you!
Matter of proportions (head/hair size, limb length, torso length, frame, weight distribution and body mass....etc.)

@@katariina7697 Glad to know Kibbe helped you. That sounds wonderful to know whatat flatters your body :)
Katariina Oversized sweaters are the best! Since I am short I have to use them with leggings or skinny jeans but it totally works!
Just here to say, over sized sweater isn't a "line", it is an element. It can be used on flamboyant gamine, natural, dramatic, and so forth. It depends on how you dress it, with what kind of other elements. Hence, understanding your lines is important.
@@di3486 Same here! Oversized sweater with skinny jeans, shows off my long legs (long for a short woman that is ;)).
Rugged* not rigged
Yep. So often natural seems to get confused with boho...
@@tinad8561 Or "western".
Oh BTW you're makeup looks flawlessly beautiful.
Modern art aims to shock. Classical art celebrates beauty. You are right!
It’s just really interesting how different clothing fits even if you’re the same height!

ahhh I could relate to you a few months ago but in a bit different way. I was lying to myself about my kibbe type for so long because I desperately wanted that long vertical line (I'm 5'4 and TR I think)
when I was exploring all of these kibbe forums and videos, it has come to my attention that many tall women are wanting to look short and my mind was blown... tall women are so cool, imo almost any clothes look good on them, weight fluctuations are not that noticeable.
And while this isn't a perfect formula or test, I did for my own fun create a "potential guideline" of what kibbe body type one might have based off of their dominant trait:
(Tall) height = Dramatic
(Tall) height + Curve = Soft Dramatic
(Wide) frame = Natural
(Wide) frame + (tall) height = Flamboyant Natural
(Wide) frame + curve = Soft Natural
Undecided about Classic, but in theory "Symmetry = Classic", so:
Symmetry + (tall) height = Dramatic Classic
Symmetry + curve = Soft Classic
Curve = Romantic
Curve + (Narrow) Frame = Theatrical Romantic
(Narrow) Frame = Gamine (Undecided)
(Narrow) Frame + Height = Flamboyant Gamine
(Narrow) Frame + Curve = Soft Gamine
Nothing to take too serious, but it helped me determine that I am SN, as I am wide frame dominant in my shoulders, with curve as a close secondary dominance. Height isn't even a thought 😂 Hope this helps!
Aly, thank you for the inspiration 😊🤗
Hi, good list Emily, thanks a Lot for that. Greetings.

I am 170cm and when I weighed 98kg I still looked taller on the pics next to my friends. Thats bc of proportions, (abnormally) long arms and legs. I looked more square but not shorter at all. I hesitated a lot, but objectively I look like no other type but FN 🤪

I'm 5'3 and flamboyant natural, so i'm a bit confused but this videos are really helpful
This is something I’ve been fighting with for so long.. what IS my vertical line. This video has broken it down much much easier for me to understand.
Glad to finally figure that out 🖤
I think I'm Soft Dramatic which has a more defined waist.
You've made a great point.. I never understood when people say D is masculine lol because people call long and narrow skinny men feminine. Dramatic women are extremely feminine, womanly and otherworldly looking. We can be sexy vixens, the princess, or badass chicks!
It doesn't help being 5'6" and torn among soft classic, romantic, and soft natural :p
maybe just try looking at what "stands out" in you? do you see width everywhere? then you might be a SN. symmetry?
Also, if you’re 5’6” you’re most likely not R.
omg this hair color fits you perfectly !!
Could Sarah Jessica Parker be a pure natural? The category is not used by Kibbe but I think she looks smaller than FN and more yang than SN.
I agree she looks tall but not very tall like other Fn. When she s with people she look moderate
I miss a pure type for Naturals... the gap between Soft and Flamboyant is big enough that neither of the clothing guidelines fit me very well.
There is far mor inspiration for SN and FN and that’s the main problem I think
I would love more guidelines on how to combine SN and FN seamlessly for a more pure Natural look. Thank god for Aly who have made content on the pure types.
She looks taller than Jennifer anniston that is a pure natural
@@bethanyday3471 Rihanna is a SD, not TR. Kibbe has typed her as SD. Tall(er) women to think they're TR are actually SD.

Couldn't click fast enough this one. Being a 5'2" Romatic/natural/romantic gamine i need help. Ty
Romantic and Natural are absolute opposite. That is easy to distinguish.
I’m assuming she meant Soft Natural and Soft Gamine.
analysis your face and body and look if you have strong broad structure (natural) or small round structure (romantic) if it is small and mostly round with some sharpness (theatrical romantic) or small delicate and sharp (gamine family)
@@itizzzwhatitizzz what if I’m small but strong? 😂
I have tried SG, R, TR styles but they do not suit me as well, especially SG.
me too, I am 5'0 and SG and FG lines looks wrong on me
your voice is addicting! it’s so smooth and you’re so well spoken
I wouldn't take it that strictly though, 2 cm is basically nothing. If TR fits you in general otherwise then you're probably TR! 😊
@@mariannek6735 aww alright ! tysm
I had a similar experience 😊 I’m a very underweight TR plus I’m 167cm. I kept retyping myself but I’m really a TR ☺️ I’m below average height for my ethnic group and I’m very delicate and petite.
Your clarification between the style of the clothes and the body type was soooooo helpful!
Love ya, Aly. You are so intelligent with dissecting and analyzing looks. A standout. Much respect!
I'm an exception for sure because I'm really small (5'2) and I'm 100% I'm soft natural. Shakira is also soft natural but she's 5'2. Please all of you check everything is not just the height❤️

Hi Aly. I'm confused about something. Audrey Hepburn was a flamboyant gamine but she was 5'7" however normally gamines are more petite.
Off topic, but love your hair color and style! It just looks stunning on you! Love your channel too!
Thank you this. I am one that has been confused about vertical line. I'm 5'3" and told I look 5'8-10" and wide. I don't understand how I can look that much taller than I am if I am also supposed to be wide. I definitely don't resemble Sarah Jessica Parker.
EXCELLENT PERSPECTIVE and COMMENTARY on Kibbe types that offers creates tremendous clarity. Well done.
Looking your profile picture and description i'd say sn or sc...i'm a soft natural myself
If that’s you in the profile pic, you’re giving me Mila Kunis and TR vibes. Also your description of having a more rounded look is more on par with Romantic types. Though they usually do have a short or moderate vertical line. Have you considered that or tried the lines?

Soft gamines tend to have slightly more fleshier arms, hands and wider feet and hands meanwhile TR hands and feet are narrow, the arms are also slimmer.
Necklines for TR is preferred with rounded shapes or sharper lines, meanwhile necklines for SG is preferred higher neck line.
TRs shoulders are sloped but tapered
SGs shoulders are sharp but not sloped

im 5.8 and i do look moderate. wish i could show you pictures but i do have a big head and big feet and a small torso. wtf is a freak like me supposed to do in kibbe's world?
Yes it’s more about the cut of something than the vibe. I have a wide variety of styles I wear and they all look good, but I can see they all have certain cuts. If that makes sence.
Hey, which type you are and what do you mean exactly with certain Cuts? I cannot imagine....
Please include centimetres. Thank you 😂♥️♥️
I thought it might be good to try and fall asleep to your lovely soothing voice, but I was too interested in what you're saying!
Ally, I have a question. If Audrey Hepburn was 1,70m, how is she considered a flamboyant gamine?
This is such an interesting and helpful way of explaining this! Thanks for your always great videos!
This video helped me confirm that I probably am a flamboyant natural, where i had been questioning soft dramatic or classic before.
It’s so hard for me to tell my type, I am 5’7 so I would say I’m taller than average but I don’t know if I’m am soft classic, dramatic classic, classic or soft dramatic
I'm so confused too
Same. People think I’m taller than 5’7”. I’m still confused after doing the test too.
Me too but i think I'm a dramatic for the sharpness and the all dramatic description .

I’m pretty sure I’m TR but my height is 5”5. But i checked Nicole scherzinger’s high and she is 5”5. So TR isn’t necessary be petite

Whoa that's very short for a FN. So you look very tall and strong?
It's about blunt bones. So if you think you found it. I'm happy for you
@@user-ms1ue8bd8r exactly
G Sara Jessica Parker is a kibbe verified FN at 5’2... did you watch the video?? Aly explains how this exact thing is possible
@@nicolesmith4371 The vid said she is 5'4 haha looks like you weren't exactly paying attention yourself
Thank you so much for creating this video. I have been confused on this. You rock ❤️
I'm 173cm high, but I look a lot smaller people think that I am 165 and I typed myself as a soft classic, is that possible?
I personally do think so :)!
It is as Soft Classic do not have long vertical lines.
You look Soft Dramatic in my opinion...tall with rounded curves, and some dramatic features in your face. The cat eye-liner looks perfect on you btw...and it looks best on SD women. SC types don’t look as good in that.
Totally girl.
@@fatoumfatoumeh Soft Dramatic isn't considered shorter than in reality.
One question i don't know from where I heard it ,but does a TR obligatory have a bigger head ? Like Ian somerhalder let's say
Hello Aly! i have a question for the next Q&A : do you have an idea what kibbe-body type Romy Schneider and french actress Emmanuelle Béart are? Thank you, I love your work :)
*I am 5’6” but can look rounded but dramatic too with my bone structure. Am I Romantic or Flamboyant Romantic? Is that a thing?!?! Oh I’m trying to make sense of it a bit more, as this helps tons, btw! Thank you, Aly! This is helping me more than any explanation before*
You’re too tall for the romantic types, I believe, but you could be SD. Some people think of SD as an oversized TR.
When we ask help on Kibbe groups in Facebook, even if you're 5'7", they always consider FG an option, people discuss about it
