      I was thinking the exact same thing. The first girl who I started watching, didn’t seem to know what she was talking about. The second seemed to know more but throw around words like “width” and “rounded shoulders” when it wasn’t really clear so i started out thinking I’m a theatrical romantic.
      Then i started in with the explanations and the first girl was like everyone sorts themselves into theatrical romantic at first.
      Then i retook the test and got gamine….. but the second girl when she was talking about gamines was talking about how gamine’s look really bad with dropped should seems which I do. I could never understand why it looked good on other people and not me.
      Ok so then i revisited and then the word “width” keeps getting thrown around and i have fairly broad shoulders but I’m thick so i’m like ok, i’m a soft natural.
      Now I finally found a girl explain width and while i do have broad shoulders, where the curve in my shoulder starts to drop is actually in line with my chest so technically I don’t have width.
      So this brings me back to romantic because i now understand that i have double curve and I’m not by kibbe standards petite. 🤷🏻‍♀️lol so i think my classification of theatrical romantic was right in the first place.

    Most of the confusion comes from the lack of comprehensive vocabulary. Kibbe terminology is actually very simple when broken down, it's just never broken down at all. It is crucial to note that the Kibbe system is not really about body shape, but about the way clothes fall on the body.
    Width: straight horizontal line.
    Vertical: straight vertical line.
    Curve: round line.
    Sharp: angular and crisp, like a V.
    Blunt: not sharp, like a U.
    Therefore "width dominant" means that the main characteristic is a wide horizontal line, such as broad shoulders, like this: -
    "Vertical dominant" means the main characteristic is straight lines like this: |
    "Curve dominant" means the lines of the body are curved, S or C shaped.
    I hope this helps a bit!

    When you announced Flamboyant Natural I immediately thought of Sarah Jessica Parker who is either 5'2 or 5'3 and is a KIbbe verified FN. I'm 5'11.5 and I used to dress more for FN, but those lines make it look like I have given up on life. I struggled with accepting that I am a Dramatic, because of the more "masculine" stereotypes that tend to be associated with the Dramatic type. But now I happily embrace it.

    • @shirin9452
      @shirin9452 Год назад +13

      Dramatic is your quintessential v neck plunging gown and can look quite delicate because of how little bulk there often is in the fabric and narrow vertical line. Miss Taylor Swift is a nice example of a dramatic who manages to create elongation in very cutesy feminine outfits 😊

    • @stylerefinement
      @stylerefinement  Год назад +13

      Yes - SJP as a FN was validating for me ❤️ I echo the reply from @shirin9452 that although Dramatics are often associated with the "masculine" stereotypes, their vertical with the lack of width actually makes them more delicate than Naturals!

      That really made me laugh. I was pretty convinced, I'm a flamboyant natural for the longest time. But, as you put it, the typical dress recommendations for that type make me look 'like I've given up on life' as well. It just looks like I put on 'whatever' and don't care about my appearance, even if I put a lot of thought into the outfit.
      I mean, I can rule out Gamine, Romantic and Classic for sure.
      But I just don't see myself in the examples of either pure or soft dramatic, either...even though that is my preferred style.
      But I'm not voluptuous or curvy at all, even when I gain weight, so I can't be a 'soft' anything. And I don't see myself as 'sharp' enough for a pure Dramatic.
      I always come back to Flamboyant Natural. 5'8ish, long limbed and narrow hipped with slightly wide shoulders. Square jawline and large nose, so lots of yang in the face. But more blunt then sharp looking, overall.
      O really fit the definition of a FN very well, but I just don't like the style on myself.

      I also had the same experience as you. I got into Kibbe years ago when it started gaining traction again -- immediately assumed I was an FN and started dressing that way, I loved the guidelines for FN.. but I eventually realized that something was just kind of "off" and I always looked really sloppy! (perhaps this is the biggest indicator of a D mistyped as FN?) I definitely had some resistance to being a Dramatic too. But now that I'm learning to embrace it, I'm realizing how much better it is on me. Its just so hard to find well structured/tailored pieces compared to FN unconstructed styles though.. /sigh

      What makes it even harder, is that clothing for dramatics need to fit right. The FN style is pretty forgiving that way, I feel. And it's not that easy to find well fitting, tailored pieces, when you're above average in height and your proportions aren't necessarily 'average adult female' either.

The exact same shoulders and thighs and legs. I've been following and learning about kibbe types for 2 years. It is so interesting and is great guide. I can type most people and trained my eye. He really explains why certain looks suit us more than others and how naturally we know what looks good on us and what styles don't. To have it in his system was ground breaking and still applies to this day. As far as wide shoulders, they are majestic. Just look at Yasmeen Ghauri and how amazing her shoulders look pronounced.

      I'll see if I can make another video about it! But for one I do try to avoid "restrictive" shoulder lines - I often opt for something where the shoulder line drops well below the shoulders to about 1/3 of the upper arm if they're unstructured pieces, or even with structured pieces like blazers I opt for the oversized look! My rule is either expose the shoulders or keep the area boxy haha. Hope that helps!

Months ago I went through the arduous process of the😁 Kibbe questionnaire and spent months in confusion, regarding whether I'm SN, Soft Classic, or Romantic (still don' t fully understand "double curve"). What actually helped me eliminate SC and R was trying on the clothes for those id's. Classic looks boring on me and Romantic feels too restrictive and like I'm trying too hard. Even when I was 50lbs heavier, I still looked slim and vertical-it just spread out evenly. I can fit a standard size L-XL for my chest in the shoulders well, even though I’m a very different shape than the frameworks they make these on. What often gets me is that my bust/waist is actually a petite length from my shoulders , so petite items often have the bust apex at the correct point length-wise for me, but my shoulders are more standard-width. For reference, I have the exact same trouser in-seam as my 7’ tall father. I’ve given up on trousers as a concept. I’m not sure if any of this helps define vertical, but I do feel like I’m a classic case study for it.

    @northwoodfalls1403 Год назад +8

    For the curve … I saw an explanation that made it clear to me. A lot of times, women who have a large bust and some meat on their hips think that means they have curve. Not necessarily. You showed a graphic in there that demonstrated the difference perfectly. If, looking head on, your bust makes your tops curve outwards to the side, that’s curve. If the hips have a roundness to them vs just width. My bust is larger but my tops still drape in a straight line on my sides from my shoulders, they don’t curve outwards around my bust and my hips have width to them, but they aren’t rounded. My pants and skirts will still drape in a vertical, they’re more of a rectangle shape than they are rounded. Vertical is absolutely the trickiest I think because there is a whole lot of combinations of proportions that can create it. Long torso but short legs with long arms (hands will hit below hips and be just below the top of the thigh when relaxed at your sides), or short torso (me) and long legs with moderate arms but the lower half of my arm bones are definitely longer than my upper arm bone and my fingers are long so it gives that length, for two examples. People get hung up on specific dimensions/measurements/proportions but it’s the overall effect. If in doubt, try on clothes with varying degrees of vertical and see how far you can push it before you look swamped or like the clothes are now separate from your body or go the other way and see how “choppy” or how much waist emphasis (which naturally sort of sections your body into halves) you can go with your clothes proportions before you begin to look detached from your clothes. I think you got your type exactly right. Fantastic overview.

    It's always interesting to see how people perceive their bodies and type themselves, especially because we tend to not be very objective about our bodies sometimes and, secondly, the Kibbe vocabulary can be quite confusing at first. but I really appreciate this system much more than the standard "fruit" classification because it does take into consideration what we have instead of how can we reach the "supposed golden standard" (which also changes from decade to decade).
    Funny, I would have typed you as .... Dramatic Classic. I'm not a Kibbe expert by any means and there are lots of factors that come into play with typing, but from the photo you posted (white top and black leggings) I struggle to see width, which is, as far as I understand (also as a self-proclaimed N girl:), would be the most prominent feature. I can totally get behind everything you say about the vertical and not being short/petite because these things are about the proportions more than the actual metrical height, but this again would lead you to the DC (balance + slight vertical). I also agree that you look more frame dominant than flesh-dominant, you do have some sharpness for sure, but it is not standing out THAT much. Finally, looking at the outfits you showed us, I would rather pick the tighter fitting black dress and top+skirt. The other two outfits seem to slightly overpower you because they have much more fabric.
    Please excuse me my little rant;) at the end of the day, everyone should wear what they like and feel comfortable in. But this again shows how different our perceptions could be

    • @stylerefinement
      @stylerefinement  Год назад +2

      Totally! I've also had comments saying that the black dress looks the worst on me, so it truly is interesting to see how different people's perceptions are. So far I'm getting people who agree that I'm a FN, or pure N, or SN, or DC like you, and even FG! LOL

      @@stylerefinement haha, the typing can be all over the place, I agree! as people say, only Kibbe himself can type people with 100% accuracy, the rest of us are doomed to float over the entire spectrum with less understanding sometimes :D
      Technically I'm also cheating a bit with typing myself 'cause I think I'm more of a pure N than a SN (I keep looking for my curve, but still can't find it lol), so in the end I just decided that I should merge the recommendations of N and SN (sometimes also FN) and it results more or less in what outfits I like to see myself in. so far I've been very satisfied with the outcome;)

Well, it seems like yes, again based on typing. But in reality, all the recommendations for choosing clothes for a “romantic” look strange on her. Because she moves not like Marilyn Monroe, but like a sports fighter. I came to the conclusion that our style consists of important little things and details. And that our individuality is difficult to artificially “diagnose” based on our body shape.

    I could be wrong, but I'm not sure FN is right for you. I don't see Vertical, though I do see Width. From the photo it looks like you may have Lower Curve? From my understanding, Curve is when there is a roundedness consistent from the waist and around the upper or lower part of the body. If so, I might consider SN, since that's Curve and Width! I also wouldn't discount FG -- Petite can come from things like small hands and feet, shorter limbs, etc.

It gives direction & most of us are already leaning in the right direction- just through trial and error. Aly art is my favorite Kibbe dissector- because she covers those extra areas we have to factor in- when evaluating ourselves, like weight gain specifics (very telling patterns for our body types), face and body inconsistencies, difficulties in being objective & seeing beauty in our various forms. Yup- I really like the kibbe typing system and I’ve checked out many of them. I live in a rural mountain area & I’m usually ordering clothing online (it’s 3 hour dive to clothes stores). Knowing my color season and my body type has helped me narrow my searches & return items less frequently.

The search result led me to The Concept Wardrobe explanation of Kibbe archetypes and the quiz to figure out your archetype. I read the explanation and did the detailed quizzes as instructed. Found out I'm a Soft Classic. Couldn't be happier about it 😂. I did a calculation of my face type before and landed on Gamine makeup and Cute style because of my face features. But couldn't really resonate well with the Cute style honestly. Thankfully Kibbe combines both bones, flesh, and faces characteristics to reach an archetype. My bone structure has more Yang characteristics (I also have straight figure with broad and sharp shoulders) but my flesh, delicate curves on the waist, and face features are screaming more Yin energy especially the face features. That's how I become the Soft Classic. The result really justify my experience and is easy to pull off. I love flowy fabrics the most because I live in a summer country. So, my Kibbe discovery experience only lasted a few hours compared to others. Not sure about you though but your chest is definitely more Yin than me. My chest is smaller and flatter. And I think my bones are thinner and sharper than yours. Even your hip is curvier than mine. It's only your waist that is more straight and probably that contributes the most to your Yang characteristic on the bone structures side. For the rest, I could still see Yin characteristic on you, especially your face. But not sure how the waist shape would affect the overall result too because I just followed the calculation in a single morning 😌. Though I think it's more about the overall balance.

    Being able to compare yourself to family members and your peers is such an important concept.
    If you stand out as very different from any of them, it can give you a very skewed perception of yourself which you might only recognise in a different environment.
    Personally, I was exceptionally tall as a child and by the age of 11 was teased as being built like John Wayne or a wardrobe: later as an adult I realised that I was just slightly taller than the average, however after years of studying Kibbe, I still genuinely can't assess whether I have delicate or broad shoulders.

    I’ve had a hard time trying to determine if I’m soft natural or a variation of gamine. I need to dive into it more and your explanation and process is very helpful!

    The moment I saw your full body pics I knew you would be a natural. I’m 5 8 (173cm) and typical text book FN and I almost have the identical width in bones. Even when I lose weight I still have a significant size in clothes because I need it in the shoulders. I don’t know how you feel as a flamboyant natural but people always think I work out or are more athletic than I actually am because I already look strong in default. When I start working out I gain muscle visually very quickly. (Not sure if that has to do with my type or just physiological factors)

      I cannot agree more about people assuming I work out a lot when literally I haven’t gone to the gym in forever 🤣 Especially my shoulders and arms you immediately notice the muscular appearance!! Totally resonate 💯

    I totally enjoyed this! (And I love your hair!!) I think do whatever feels right to you. To me for what it’s worth, I think you may be a dramatic classic. Dramatic classics also look great in oversized and streamlined. You could test it by seeing whether you look better with a lot of texture (a FN thing) or whether sleek makes you shine more ✨🩷

      I think I definitely feel “off” with sleek! My friends have commented about how I always select clothing based on texture so that’s a good indicator I guess! Thanks for this tip I loved it ❤️

    I think you are right about your own kibbe body type. It reminds me of Sarah Jessica Parker who looks tall and isn't. And she's verified FN. And you broke down his types and explained things well.

    Kibbe *is* so very confusing, it doesn't really make logical sense, that's one reason I've always been more into essences :) I'm now trying to figure out my Kibbe ID, but as I'm 174 cm tall (which IMO is just an average height), I'm in practice excluded from all ID's which I feel suit me (like TR or SC) :( There are *only* 3 ID's for those at my height, which IMO is very unfair towards us taller girls, much more than short ones! And I don't resonate with any of the 3 strongly. No wonder I've always been confused, as Kibbe is very strict and limiting! I already have a very distinctive personal style, and know what looks good on me, but I'd just love to know my Kibbe ID too, just for curiosity ;) Btw, with width, you could also be a Soft Natural!

    I have a similar build, except I would say I have much more width than you, but I still landed on flamboyant natural as my type. I’m also close to your height, so this makes me think I’m on the right track. Thanks!

    Love this!!! I’d be curious to understand more about why you think Flamboyant Natural instead of just Natural. I went down the Kibbe rabbit hole a few years ago and while I understood there’s exceptions to the height/vertical criteria, it seems like regular Natural could be a closer fit for you(?) Sarah Jessica Parker is a very obvious Flamboyant Natural height exception example because of her super long face with angular, blunt features. But to me taking your face into account it seems less clear?
    Love your style, it seems to work really well for you!!

      Edit: I didn’t realize Kibbe had gotten rid of the pure types! Nevermind!! 😂 Flamboyant Natural for sure makes more sense than Soft Natural!

      Haha some people did say I look more like a pure Natural (yes, they're gone but still)! Between FN and SN I do feel I lean a little more towards FN, but others have also commented that I could be SN so it seems we can at least agree that I'm somewhere in the Natural family 😂

    Although I don't buy totally into kibbe, I would have put you as a dramatic classic, because as you've talked about in your videos, you look best in things that aren't extreme. Classics are well balanced. Liking or vibing with a look doesn't make it your kibbe. I think dramatic classic takes into account your verticality, broad shoulders etc. I don't think you are nearly heavy enough in the shoulders or tall enough to be a natural. Sorry ! But don't be sad as a dramatic classic you can wear all sorts of stuff and look very stylish. Also love your work! Your face proportion videos are illuminating as are your colour videos.

    Did you get a hair cut? I did last Saturday! ☺️ I wanted to get a hush cut, but I’m not so sure it’s appropriate for someone with naturally very curly hair. 😅 So I did something suitable for me and similar enough and just got a lot of layers. ☺️

      Thank you!! I didn't get a haircut but it's grown out quite a bit so I tried styling it a little differently. I'm def due for a haircut, and even though I have straight hair I'm afraid the hush cut would be too messy and a lot of maintenance... I do have layers as well and this time around I'm thinking of getting a loose perm to keep the ends neat ❤
