is the narrator trolling us by mispronouncing "pronunciation" throughout the entire video?
Michael B I sure hope so. As soon as I heard it, everything else lost it's correction value.
Michael B
That's what I was thinking.
Joey Collins Ha! You too.
I'm hoping it's just a troll, I just cringe when I hear it tbh
lol
Pronunciation of Nutella is at 10:17 .
Thank me Later!
Wrong pronunciation
Thank you
THANKYOU
Thanx mate
Well it's 2 seconds in... and I'm out.
He's pronouncing "pronunciation" wrong. This is a video about pronunciation.... Come on.
He's saying pro-NOUN-see-A-shun and it should be pro-NUN-see-A-shun
Jill Stephenson hes pronouncing pronounciation right.. Its different in England
Nope. It's proNUNciation.
Jill Stephenson it IS proNUNciation
I say pro-NOUN-see-A-shun
Spelling does not equal pronunciation. Case in point: laugh, rough, tough, height, neighbour, nation, you get the point. I hope. But also, as mentioned in the video, some pronunciations are regional.
I've never heard anyone pronounce adobe as "a dobe" LEGIT NEVER
Seriously, Adobe =/= Abode, guys!
watsgoinonhere1 adobe is not equal to adobe?
Cedey AJ adobe, como los adobes..
Cedey AJ I'm a professional Adobe user, have been to their masterclasses and dealt with their marketing dept. It's pronounced a-DOH-bee. Officially.
i never heard anyone call it NUTella
You mispronounced pronunciation.
It's not pronounciation...Its PRONUNCIATION. Say it right.
The joke ------------------------>>>
Your head ---> (*_*)
I agree. It's PRONUNCIATION

Was just coming to comment this. In a video about pronouncing words properly, he is pronouncing pronunciation wrong. lol. eye-ron-ee! :D
pawprints1986 issa joke
Nutella is a typical Italian product and as 100% Italian, born raised and residing in Italy I can tell you that the "u" is pronounced like the "u" in the word "sure" or the double "o" in the word "soon". Since Nutella is an Italian product I think it should be pronounced the Italian way. I think the same about IKEA: I can't stand the Americanisation of its pronunciation, even if the Swedish seem not to care so much. I think it's just very arrogant.
Ahhh! A jedi's favorite computer application... Adobe-Wan Kenobi.
Dangerfield 😂😂😂😂😂
As a German I can tell you, he pronounced Adidas wrong. The example he chose for pronouncing wrong was actually right... For those who don't believe me: Adidas is German, most words in German have a quite short first syllable.
In the Philadelphia/ southern New Jersey area, the majority of people pronounce water as " wooder."
A pretty good vid. A few words in here I had never given much thought to. But I have honestly never heard a single person ever pronounce Adobe incorrectly. Still, though, good video
Another one is "Willys" the defunct automobile manufacturer famous for making the WWII "Jeeps" It is pronounced "Willis" not "Willees" Another fun fact is that the "Jeeps" predate the Jeep brand. Some say "Jeep" was a slang term for them because they were classified as GP vehicles, general purpose vehicles, and when you pronounce "GP" it sounds like "jeep" Its also said they were named after a cartoon character named "Eugene the Jeep" but are technically a Willys MB. Ford also made an identical version of the Willys MB called the Ford GPW
NO it’s actually ad-ee-dass, not adi-dass!! WATCH PRONUNCIATION VIDEOS ON ADIDAS. HE IS WRONG. But only about that particular one. The creator of adidas, his name was Adi Dass, so he named the brand that. Omg I always thought Nutella was pronounced Nut-Ella because it has freaking HAZELNUTS in it duh. But nooo, of course Nutella just wanted to make it different to pronounce.. sigh...
I'm french and Hermès is pronounced "air-mess" and Renault is pronounced "r-uh-no" not re-no because in french e is uh in général unless it has an accent and Lafayette is not pronounced la-fee-yet but la-fa-yet like everyone pronounce it... try asking natives rather than trying to pronounce it without a hint of foreign pronounciation.
I DO CRINGE WHEN THEY SAY MEL-BORN OR WHEN THEY SAY BRIS-BANE! SO ANNOYING😬😬😬😬😬
Respond by calling it Lass Ver-gas (Las Vegas) :-)
Me who says Volksvagen and is half-correct: you dare oppose me mortal
First things first: pronouncing a word wrong??? Don't you mean pronouncing a word wrongLY???
Second: PronUNciation.
Third: Adidas DOES have the emphasis on the first syllable. There's another video on this & it's been pointed out there the company was founded by Adi Dassler, so ADidas is the way to say it properly.
they say NUT ELL UH on the ads so you are actually wrong mate.
melbourne is only melbourne because us aussies just shorten our words. melb'n, barbie, V-dub etc
when he doesnt include nevada
After this video went in the kitchen and took a jar of Nutella, lol
The letter H is spelt and pronounced aitch. The word pronunciation has only one letter O, and is pronounced with emphasis on the letter U. The word erroneous has two Es so is pronounced erroneous, not erronus
Should’ve put Hawai’i in there, it’s pronounced not like (ha-wai-e) But is pronounced (Ha-Vai-e) the w is pronounced as a V
Dubay? But I never heard locals pronouncing it dubay. They pronounce it dubye
I didn't realize people struggle saying auzzie cities so much
So, ehh, yeah...
Watching this, I kept thinking to myself: Really? I I mean, sure, this is probably quite hard if English is your native language. More so when you don't speak any other languages.
But I'm more amazed at how easy the pronunciation of this all was and few I've been pronouncing wrong.
Guess it's good to be Dutch, then :D
Also, nice stuff to troll Aussies with, hur hur hur...
LAFAYETTE!!! Who the heck pronounces this incorrectly?
Apparently I have been mispronouncing Ikea since long.
It's ProNUNciation (not ProNOUNciation) & it's DUBAI (Du-BYE) I live in Dubai and study Arabic as well.
For the 2nd last one, I say it like “a Ddos”. Not kidding
Never trust a redcoat to get it right. Lafayette is in Louisiana. And y'all probably shouldn't even try the Cajun way.
Okay the Hermes part is just ridiculous, the Greek god Hermes is the reason it is named so, and thusly should be pronounced so
I can't be the only one who knows it actually is LA-FA-YET not LAF-EE-YET
It isn't "pronounciation", it's pronunciation.
Me and my friend were fighting about the NUTella at lunch today stupid I know but she pronounces it NEWtella. I’m gonna show her this vid to show her she’s been pronouncing it wrong. She asked her other 2 friends they sided with her but haha they’re wrong
Who came Here Only for "NUTella"!!!!😘😘😂😘😘😘

squirrelsrcute oh!! Thats Good
αjѕ cɾeɑԵíօղՏ you mean Nuh-tell-ah
VYTAUTAS GAURONSKIS lol!!! Yeah! Nu-tell-ah
Although you did well with the other German words, ADIDAS is pronounced the way u said it was wrong.
Jaa😂😂
@ItsCookieCannibal actually…if you speak to German speaking people they pronounce it Addydas and not Addeeeeeedus. TEAR is correct here.
In English, BMW is pronounced "Bee-emm-double-u", but in German we actually say "Bae-emm-vae". Greetings from Munich.
The Stig's German Cousin because that's how the letter pronunciation is in Germany! Glad we had to learn German in 4th grade
And in french we say Bay-emm-doobleh-vay 😝
The Stig's German Cousin in Turkish we say Bee-emm-vee
Zopir In Italian we say Bee-emme (with and Italian "e")-voo (with the "book"'s "oo"). And it's strange because W in Italian is Dooppeeuh (with the "door"'s "oo") voo (with the "book"'s "oo")
sane here in sweden :D
Nutella si pronuncia Nu-tel-la. I'm italian please ,nutella is from italy
@whachusay it doesn't come from the word nut, you can call it whatever you like but non provare a fotterci le parole strunz
@whachusay i don't know about 'english' but i have said nu-tel-la all my life.... yeah everyone else here says nut-ella for some reason
When you say it like that it sounds like you’re saying it as “nut” - ella. In English it would be written as “noo” - tella.
If NEWT-tella, then hazel- NEWT
@@rmnallen67 no. Is every word derived from english now? Just because you see "nut" in it doesn't mean it has anything to do with "nut" because it's not even the same language.
Sorry, but you're wrong about Adidas.
Adidas is short for Adi (Adolf) Dassler, which is the founders name. So you pronounce it like Ahdee-Dus. At least here in Germany, where good ole Adi is from. 😊
Like, shoes made by Adi Das?
Gum Skyloard yes. You wrote adi das instead of adidas
Modellbaustammtisch that is how it is pronounced in the US as well.
I agree on that.
Modellbaustammtisch
Well done! When I saw your comment, I was relieved :))
I'm italian and the correct pronunciation of "Nutella" is "Nuutella''
Le altre lingue pronunciano u in modo che può essere diverso... doppia o crea il suono corretto secondo me
@J well yes and fucking stop because Nutella is made by Ferrero and not some American company
Italian last time I saw a Italian beside my self is like 2 years ago I am 82%

The part about Adidas is completely crap! It is the blend of the founder's name Adolf Dassler. The usual diminutiv for Adolf is "Adi"; by chance, my own grandpa's first name was Adolph (with ph at the end), and he was also called "Adi" throughout his life. Therefore, the only correct (German) pronunciation is stressing the FIRST syllable, not the second one like most English speakers do it due to misleading video clips like this one ...
I think this stems from splitting Adidas into 3 instead of 2 syllables. It's "ADI-das", not "A-di-das" or "a-DI-das"...
These are all 3 syllables. Splittung it into ADI-das doesnt change the fact that ADI is two syllables lol
Henry... stfu! That is still three syllables.
I agree, Stefan. Looks pretty clear cut, in my opinion.
So what? The stress on the second syllable is still wrong then. Only ignorant people use English emphasis rules for some foreign terms. In German, the correct stress is "ADI-das", period. There is no alternative to it, and this is a clear case (There are other cases of doubt or several correct possibilities in German as well). And due to the fact that it is a German brand, name, and origin, people should do it correctly the German way also in English. Take for example the brand "Chanel". Do you pronounce it like "channel" (water)? No, it's French, you say cha-NELL. There might be better examples because of the number of "n", but you know what I mean. Why the heck do people do it wrongly then when it comes to German?! If I would say pre-SI-dent instead of PRE-si-dent, English native speakers would correct me as well, wouldn't they?
Watching this as a German can be a little difficult.. 😅😂
L D why?
This whole country got ADD we can't concentrate, that's why lol
L D Jap! Vorallem er spricht die deutschen Wörter zum Teil auch komisch aus...

#11 there's a Greek god named Hermes and it's pronounced or pronounced in English HER-MES
It's a french company.
You can pronounce it in french (Hermès) like the grec god (Ερμής) or in english (Hermes).
I suppose that people of the Hermès company don't care how you speak if you can afford what they sells.
H E R P E S, YOU GOT AIDS :) HAVE A NICE DAY

PEANUT BUTTER no it sounds better Ermez
Stoped watching the video aftert "Tag Heuer".
It is NOT a german name. It's a french name! So it's pronounced:"Thaj-Høre"
I'm very disappointed in this clear lack of research in this video :(
never heard an Aussie mispronounce "Melbourne" or "Brisbane" and if i did i'd shank 'em
Said like a true Aussie
You you miss-pronounced “pronunciation” as in “proNOUNcation” instead of “proNUNcation” I think
It's proNUNciation🙃
Stfu
Fact for you:
The Beatles didn't take their name after the insects, They were originally called the Quarrymen until John Lennon wanted s better name, he wanted to have a catchy and musical name, So he cleverly put the word Beat into the title. He was partially inspired by the band The Crickets who, once again, was named not after the bug. Other names considered were Johnny and The Moondogs, The Silver Beatles and the Rainbows.
you're welcome :)
That fact was super random and I liked it.
The building where Ringo got his drums, according to Ludwig, is in Chicago. 1728 N. Damen. Huge place. The elevator is larger than my whole living room.
Still standing. Hideously overpriced condos.
As is the Slingerland building. Maybe 2.5 miles away.
Considering that ADIDAS is a German brand and I am German myself, I am very confused about the emphasis on the SECOND syllable. I have always stressed the first one, and I've also never heard any German doing it different from that …🤔
It is correctly written in the video and he describes it correctly, too ... but then prounces it the other way round. First syllable is indeed correct.
You miss pronounced "PRONUNCIATION" many times in this video!!!!!!!!!!! :( :( :( It's Pro-NUN-ciation.
It was probably a joke. He said it 3 times, ffs.
olafpayne fuck you
The word "forte" is also universally mispronounced. It's supposed to be pronounced " fort". Also, the narrator is misspronouncing "pronunciation". It isn't pronounced "pronounciation".
Nope. "Forte" is derived from French in this case, and pronounced "fort."
Forte it's both...
Rivanni nope that isn't Italian
"Forte" /ˈfɔ.teɪ/ (music) Loud. Fortissimo. (is from Italian)
"Forte" /fɔːt/ A strength or talent. (is from French)
JNCressey thank you.
The thing that most surprised me wasn't even on the list! It was none other than the narrator's pronunciation of the letter "H." He pronounced it as "hay-ch," but as an American, I pronounce it as "ay-ch." Pretty interesting! That should have been a bonus item on the list. xD
RixAuzr because that's english
H is aiche. Does any country say 'haiche'?
da96103 Hell, some Brits even refuse to say "haich" in stead of "aich"!
My mom pronounces "z" like "zed"
Yeah it's truly amazing how many people pronounce "h" wrong. The correct pronunciation is "aych."
Why does he always sound like he just woke up?

asking the word squirrel is always hard even in french or english when you're not from there XD
@@crokyaoi I can't get the damned rolled R in Spanish for ANYTHING. Native speakers find it hilarious. I sound like a dog growling...

Since I live in the States we always call it New-tell-a. I have cooking videos on my channel where people always make comments trying to correct my pronunciation for "Nutella". I always send them the buzzfeed link, now I will send them this video!
Stopped listening at the second mispronunciation of 'pronunciation.' Lost all credibility.
it honestly depends on where you're from. Americans say pro-nun-ciation and British and Aussies say pro-noun-ciation. depends...
Tardis that is just incorrect. If you have heard people from Britain or Australia saying it that way, they were saying it wrong. This is not a matter of regional dialects; there is one way to pronounce it correctly
Shane Fitzgerald thanks shane, someone understands!
@@majesticeagle5461 Well, I can't believe you're replying to a three-year-old post, or that I'm replying to you, but given this was a report on proper pronunciation that pronounced the word "pronunciation" wrong, I fail to see how the fact that "most British [sic] people pronounce it that way is irrelevant. The OED does not show that mispronunciation as valid. A lot of people also say "Irregardless." That doesn't make it right, or acceptable, to me.
Basically the whole video: due to the English language’s limited phonetic resources...😂

HERMES is also a German logistics company like UPS and Fedex
HERPES* ;)
Yes you have ER-PAYS.
Those are shipping companies. Just because they use logistics doesn't mean they are logistics.
pdavidp45 Look it up. This is not about Hermes, but Hèrmes :D
makes sense with Hermes being the messenger god.
Lafayette is not pronounced like that, it's "la-fa-yeah-tt", you pronounced it as "la fillette" (= "the little girl")
source: I'm a native French speaker
Why thank you.
Actually, you're incorrect it in fact IS "La-Fa-Yeah-TT", you are not speaking in the correct dialect of French. You do know there are more than just one don't you?!
or, in Georgia, "luh-FAY-it"
Actually, Sam, that's what Momoka_be said: "la-fa-yeah-tt".
StPears actually it's not, but thank you for playing... You are the weakest link!
nike is actually named after Niké , pronounced Nee-kay, so no accent on the e makes Nee-key
bw im french and lafayette is not la fillette, its pronounced Lah-fah-yet
Master boy et Slime boy i was thinking the same about lafayette, je ne suis pas le seul français qui essaye de corriger les erreurs de prononciation de mots français apparemment ...
Et je vous remercie de m'avoir appris appris cette chose sur la manière de prononcer ''nike''.
Avez-vous aussi remarquer le fait qu'il ait prononcé le ''h'' muet de ''hermès''?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nike_(mythology)
Hermès has nothing to do with "eymeyz" ! The "R" needs to be pronounced, and the "s" is pronounced like a "s", not a "z" ! International business times is wrong, and wikipedia too, unless every French I ever heard this name from were wrong. In fact your pronunciation doesn't sound French at all…
Renault is not pronounced wenoooh either! It's a hard one to pronounce for native english speakers, and the effort is there, but not quite enough, in my opinion. Well, the channel is intended for people who most likely won't even manage to do as good as you, if they ever try.
Lafayette is a clear and utter failure, so…
I wonder how trustworthy this information channel is…
Florestan Trément i was already knowing about the goddess... but still, thanks, i guess it's like if you're reminding me it i guess...
@JJGeneral1: Nike is the Greek goddess of victory. In Greece they would thus pronounce it as "Nie-Kay" (Nie as in piece and Kay as in bay). They wouldn't pronounce e.g. Obama as "Obema" or "Obeyma", as it is a given name.
To be honest, though Nutella is Italian, the name comes from the English word "Nut" + the Italian diminutive "ella" (little nut), so it could be pronounced Natella as well. Nutella is not an Italian word, and Italians pronounce Nut Newt, hence Newtella but that's only because Italians mispronounce the word Nut.
So either way is fine.
I've always pronounced it as New-Tell-Uh. Do people actually pronounce it as Nut-Ell-Uh?
Yes and it is correct
Lemon keeps the Eh sound it doesn’t make it an ee sound (lee-muh-nayd)
So Nutella should keep the uh sound
2:10 "most Americans and Brits get this wrong"
Uh... how about Australia, we have IKEA too!!! Australia needs more recognition -__-
I've never pronounced it as New-tell-a. Always Nut-tell-a. Everything else in my pronunciation was spot on, except "Hermes". I thought that was like "Hermey" the elf from the old Rudolph Christmas special. o_O
wysiwyg43 reported
u pronounced dubay? sketchy.
If it was "nuh-TEL-la" it would be spelled 'Nuttella'.
Sometimes I do both :P
Greek goddess Nike was where they got the name. Any Greeks around?
I always knew Nutella was pronounced that way (a lot of people I know say nuhtella though)
I'm going to put this with "Vizsla" (Americans say "Veesh-la," even tho it's like "Viz-la") and "Peart," which as EVERY drummer knows, or damn well SHOULD, the late Rush legendary drummer was never "Pert," as in shampoo, but "Peer-t."
Americans will KNOW this, discuss it st length, tease each other about it, and go right back to saying "Pert" within 5 minutes. We can't do it right for very long. Lol.
It's like the damned Spanish rolled "r," as none of us can do that, either, without sounding like a furious Chihuahua...and it's of course all wrong.
Do you think us USA knows all theses words?!?!
Adidas is wrong, it’s: Uh-Dee-Dus
No it’s Ah Di Das, look into the origins and it will be common sense that it’s not uhdeedus
Good Lord! The narrator can't even pronounce "pronunciation" right!! On top of that, he forgot to list "Tevas," which is commonly mispronounced "Teevas."
R Hayat Well it depends on where you're from. British and Aussie people say Pronounciation and not Pronunciation.
Nope, in Britain it's still Pro-NUN-ce-A-shun
Wow, I’ve been pronouncing the right way for the three words mentioned in this video, ironically, people kept correcting my pronunciations. So I was right after all!
If they don't put "gyro" in, I'm moving on with my life. It's Greek. "YEE-RO" with a slight slur. Like a soft D in the middle.
NOT F*CKING "JYE-ROE!"
And if you have it wrong, it's inexcusable to not fix it when you're that far off. Jmo.
im sorry for u but nutella is neither british or american. its italian so if u rlly want to pronunce it right, than look at the italian pronuncation
My thoughts exactly - it's NU-TELL-AH... smh.
There's no italian pronounciation as the word was conceived by marketing people to sell world-wide and root is an English word "nut".
asupshik
And? The pronunciation it's wrong anyway. It is NOOTELLA.
I say that however the manufacturer says it's pronounced that's how it's pronounced.
So, Nuh-tell-uh it is. It only seems right when they say Americans are the only ones who pronounce it the other way, because that's what we do, butcher all the languages from from which ours originates.
Simon Heavlin but the official pronunciation is NEW-tella
3:16 I remember seeing an ad that said Hyundai rhymes with Sunday, like Hyun-day.
Sort of. In Korean, it's 현대 (Hyun-dae), which sort of rhymes with Sunday, but the "dae" sound is slightly more diluted, I would say. It sort of rhymes with "day," but Hyundai's "dae/dai (former is regular romanization)," as is the case with all ㅐ ("ae") sounds in Korean, sounds softer and not as nasally/hard.
the german V can also be pronounced like the german W, like in "Vase"

To be fair.. since these are in different languages... We don't need to pronounce them the way they do. I mean we don't even call a country or language it's same name as in their language. No language does, we all have our own way to pronounce and even spell
These are not foreign words, they're brand names and locations so the correct way to pronounce them is however the company or locations tell you to say them

Did you even read? Official names are not pronounced the same in different languages nor locations

This company needs to learn how to pronounce thier product or change their spelling to match the word they really want to say. you dont say hazelnuwt you say hazelnut witch is what this spread is made to taste like.
Oh, and I have never in my life heard anyone say "Del-mont" or "Ah-dobe'. I'm fairly certain that anyone over the age of 25 is smart enough to know that these are "del-mont-ee" and "Ah-do-be". If young people are consistently saying it wrong, then they need to get their collective heads out of their phone texts and actually LEARN the language instead of just passing so-called 'tests' to prove they know something. (But, of course, they are told all their lives that tests are EVERYTHING they need to know. 2 lies in one.)
One such example I see every day is young people writing "conscious" when they mean "conscience". Another is writing "passed" when they are saying that something is in the "past". There are many more commonly seen typos, but these are just two examples off the top of my head. I guess every generation has their own group of commonly mis-placed words, but today's generation seems to have a LOT of things they're getting wrong that they really should know better than to screw up. (And NONE of the young'ns seem to be able to figure out "there", "their", and "they're", as well as "your", "you're", and "yore".)
That being said, public education is a freaking joke these days in English speaking countries, with instructors spending all their time concentrating on "teaching methods" rather than actually teaching - in addition to teaching groups of students HOW to pass a standardized government testing form, rather than actually teaching those students the subject at hand. This is what happens when you ask government idiots to improve education. All they know how to do is to make it more complicated by adding more rules and regulations, make any subject incredibly boring with "standardized teaching methods", and aim the students' intended learning toward a goal that has nothing to do with actual education.
Welcome to the 21st century. May your favorite deity take mercy on you and your childrens' souls...
(Also, I've never heard anyone say "tames" when referring to the Thames, or saying "La-FAY-et" when referring to Lafayette. Maybe somebody has, but I haven't heard them say those things this way.)
(Also, Adidas is a made-up word. The owner of the company is named "Adolf 'Adi' Dassler". So he called the company "Adidas", using a combination of his nickname and his surname. Kind of like saying "shoes by Adi Das".)
What
