    I was given these and decided in my best interest after reading all the side effects it wasn't for me. I changed some eating habits and kept taking my baby aspirin. I reduce my stress levels, starting drinking apple cider Vinegar and lemon juice and I am doing much better. Just because a doctor prescribes it doesn't mean you need to take it. Remember all their mistakes are in the grave. Look for a more natural approach to health and healing that's all I am saying. High blood pressure try garlic, don't believe me just look it up for yourself. Sometimes the best things for you isn't in Pill form.

    What about dementia and diarrhea, doctor?!?! I’m so sick of doctors downplaying side effects simply because they don’t make the connection of a patient’s symptoms and how it like is related to whatever pharmaceutical they’ve been prescribed. Instead, doctors write more prescriptions to counter balance side effects…which are often worse than the original symptoms….and so a vicious cycle continues. This isn’t healing to the body….it’s masking the problem. Instead, why not look into diet, exercise, vitamins and natural herbal supplements that do not cause all of these horrible side effects. That’s what doctors use to do until big pharma took control.

    When I was given Metoprolol, after a couple of months, I collapsed and was taken to the ER and admitted. It slowed my heart rate dangerously low and my BP was still up to almost 200. I was taken off of it in the hospital and told never to use it again. I guess it works well for a lot of people, but it almost could have had a very bad ending for me.

    This drug has been literal poison to me. 25mg twice a day because iI got diagnosed with sleep apnea. 2 weeks for something that made me worse than i was before. Panic attack, anxiety, and depression I never had before. Uncontrollable crying and gloom and doom to a point of about feeling suicidal. Insomnia and crazy nightmares. I went to the hospital with 196/94 BP pulse at 115 resting when my BP used to be 120/67 and pulse about 60. I weaned off a couple days and completely stopped. Felt on top of the world immediately. It was making my heart race on small tasks and short of breath. I read 100s of reviews and maybe 10 were people that liked it. Other than that 95% were having the same issues I was having and I was glad I wasnt alone. Learn and be very careful starting this drug. Good luck.

    This medicine nearly killed me. I have others warned not to take it. I had night terrors, I could not sleep at night. I could not ride long distances in a car. I was coughing up phlegm to the point I was choking on it, waking up with headaches, could not go up and down steps well at all and walking was difficult long distance. When my doctor would not listen to the side effects and insist that I take 3 tablets in the morning and 3 tablets at night. I was taking two tablets in the morning and two tablets at night. Last year it put me into AFib. I change doctors thinking I would get help from another heart doctor. But that failed terribly. Now my physician is helping me with monitoring my heart. And on a different heart medicine. I have no more heart palpitations and my blood pressure has stabled for the first time in a year and a half. My pulse is staying in the 80s. When I was on that medicine I could not get my pulse below 90. After two bad experiences with a heart doctor I will not go back to see another one.

Your system isn't getting the rest required every night for self-repair. This horribly affects brain function along with many other things. For a month now, I haven't been able to stay asleep more than 1.5hrs and spend most of the day horribly tired (fatiqued). This is a nightmare!

Since my resting heartbeat is around 90 plus and my regular walking or regular day heartbeat is around 115 to 130 bpm My doctor decided to put me on metoprolol and it was the scariest day of my life I will never forget it I remember waking up unable to breathe no matter how deep of breaths I took I could not get any oxygen in my lungs and I started panicking and I knew I was going to die. I was given metoprolol for tachycardia….It helps with heart rate but I had difficulty breathing, fatigue and syncope. Actually put on 20 lbs in about the first 3 weeks on it. I had to sit upright to sleep, it was a very scary feeling. I tapered myself off of it after about 3 months as the side effects were worse than the tachycardia! Now I have developed POTS. So while I’m standing my blood pools in my legs, and my heart races faster to get oxygen to my brain. After standing for a couple of minutes I completely lose consciousness and fall to the ground. I went from a full time job in pharmacy to early retirement by choice, and now I can’t even shower when I’m home alone. 😢 I’m using a shower chair and have to pace myself just for everyday chores….cooking or even brushing my teeth. I’m slowly going to work my way back into an active lifestyle. I know it’s going to take time and patience, but I can’t live like this forever. I didn’t work hard for early retirement just to be bedridden!

    I've had several episodes where my heart rate suddenly rockets, I feel dizzy, trembling, left arm and leg becomes numb and I get a slight chest pain/discomfort. I've had fear of death in these episodes, but after 2 blood screenings and 2 electrocardiograms coming out perfectly, doctors at the ER as well as my cardiologist are pretty much convinced I'm having anxiety/panic attacks. My cardiologist prescribed me metroprolol daily for a week the first time I had an attack, and told me to come back to him if I had another episode. That was about 2 months ago. However, a week ago I had 2 attacks one after the other which made me go to the ER again. After being discharged from the ER and going back to my cardiologist, he told me he would put me under metroprolol again for 1 month, and if I find myself having an episode again, come back to him for more tests, including a holter.
    I hope this is purely sinus tachycardia blown up by my anxiety. So far metroprolol keeps my heart rate at around 65-75, while normally it is above 80. Thank you for your informative video.

      @CardioGauge  5 лет назад

      Henry Chavez you’re welcome Henry! I have quite a few patients with a similar story. The key thing for me when I am working with someone in your shoes is to make sure I have an ECG (could be Holter or full ECG) done while the person is having the fast heart rate episode. Often times the patient will come to the emergency department for the racing heart sensation, but it stops before the ECG is completed. If they have done an ECG on you while you were actually having the symptom, that typically rules out a major heart rhythm problem.
      Best wishes!

    • @Tirfing88
      @Tirfing88 5 лет назад

      @@CardioGauge Thanks! Sadly I think I haven't been under an EKG in the peak of one of these episodes, generally they have been only for about 5-10 minutes, on the way to the ER my heart rate drops close to normal, but the chest discomfort persists.
      I was being monitored in the ER for about 5 hours and my heart rate was fairly normal, fluctuating between 70-80 with very brief periods of around 100.
      I guess it is a good thing right? Having these episodes last for only a couple of minutes. It's just getting really tiring and is affecting my quality of life because every little sensation that I feel in my chest stresses me out and puts me in alert, to the point that it gets a little difficult to sleep (chest discomfort is almost always exclusive to when I lay down to sleep).
      My cardiologist attibuted my second attack to a really bad toothache that I had that was starting to spread to my left shoulder/arm and to a medication called Tramadol that I took on my own to treat that pain until I could see a doctor.
      Are there any heart conditions not immediately detected by an EKG that have my similar symptoms? Based on what I have written, do you think I have a heart condition or just stress? I know you cannot give a diagnosis thru the internet, but still would like your opinion, if it's okay to ask for it for free lol.

      @@Tirfing88 " It's just getting really tiring and is affecting my quality of life because every little sensation that I feel in my chest stresses me out and puts me in alert, to the point that it gets a little difficult to sleep " what you said is hallmark of anxiety/panic disorder. You are somatizing your anxiety through psychosomatic manifestations. I had the same issues. If im stressed or i have GERD acting up, i can have bouts of tachycardia/palpatations/chest tightness throughout the day where i will think i am hypertensive. Its all mental. You have to understand and believe that.
      If you have a malignant cardiovascular issue, it would show up on blood work and EKG, believe that. You can have episodes of A-Fib that might not show up during those screenings but given a normal history it would be highly unlikely.
      Metoprolol has done wonders for me in terms of how many panic/anxiety correlated to my heart rate and blood pressure.

      The main list of possible causes For symptoms you describe:
      SVT- starts and stops suddenly, like a light switch turned on and off.
      POTS- symptoms provoked by standing up, sustained for minutes, associated with lightheadeness / feeling faint
      Ventricular tachycardia: sudden start and stop of symptoms. Patient has a history of passing out suddenly without explanation.
      Atrial fibrillation: irregular, out of sync heart pounding. Sudden start and stop. Typically people older than 40.
      Panic Attack: heart rate ramps up over a few seconds, rather than instantaneously increasing. Symptoms abate over minutes, rather than stopping suddenly.
      The most obvious possibility is sinus tachycardia and anxiety, however, I have had about ten patients over the years who had very similar symptoms as you who had SVT, and were misdiagnosed with panic attack. That is why I always try to get an ECG tracing during the symptoms. A holter is most useful if person has the symptoms on daily basis, because it is only a one or two day test. The cardiologist will likely have a two week monitor available as well, we use the ZIO. The absolute best is we catch the beginning or end of the episode on ECG.
      Metoprolol can help any of the diagnoses I listed above. Caffeine could be expected to worsen symptoms.
      Hope that helps, good luck Henry

    The most common side effect is fatigue, feeling tired. about 1 in 5 people will have fatigue. 1 in 10 or so have weird / vivid dreams. I have seen people get depressed with it, that is unusual, 1 in 100. Weight gain for about 1 in 10, a few pounds. Swelling in legs is rare. Lightheadedness is common but usually mild.
    The worst thing that can happen is excessively slow heart rate, with passing out. This is unusual.

      Hi RG, this is a common medication for POTS. I have had a few patients do well with it. I don't treat POTS frequently, mostly my colleagues who specialize in heart rhythm problems do.
      When my patients are leery of starting a medication, I have them start on a very low dose, once a day, to see how they tolerate it. Metoprolol can be cut into halves or even quarters to accomplish this.
      I have never seen metoprolol cause permanent damage to anyone. It definitely can cause side effects, the most common being fatigue. But when the medication is stopped the side effects go away. Good Luck!

    I've been taking motoprolol for many years and it always seemed to work for me until recently. I've been waking up in the middle of the night with rapid heartbeat and palpitations. They are so bad that I've been to the emergency room twice in the last week thinking that I was having a major heart episode. I had an EKG test , blood test, urinalysis and a treadmill test where they inject dye in your blood stream and put you in that MRI type machine. Everything came back normal but I'm still having these episodes in the night and an uncomfortably hard and slow heart beat ( less than 60 beats a minute, at times it will go down to almost 50! ) during the day that never really goes away? Is it the motoprolol? I'm scared and I can't see a doctor until next month. I have to suffer with this for the next 2 weeks and I'm at my wit's end. I'm 45 btw and take motoprolol for a fast heart rate and high blood pressure.

    • @CardioGauge
      @CardioGauge  5 лет назад +3

      Hi Mountain Man, sorry I missed your question from last week. Sometimes the metoprolol wears off, and then symptoms start. I presume you are taking the twice a day form of metoprolol, which is metoprolol tartrate, since this is more common. However, you could be taking metoprolol succinate, which is the once a day form of metoprolol.
      I have had patients inadvertently get switched by the pharmacy from long acting to short acting metoprolol, and this resulted in similar symptoms to what you describe. Alternatively, if you have changed the timing of when you take the medication, this could possibly cause the symptoms. usually the doses of metoprolol tartrate are best separated by about 12 hours.
      When my patients awaken with rapid heart beat, I usually do a couple of tests: Holter Monitor (wear the monitor for one day and it records the heart rhythm throughout the entire 24 hours), and sleep study. Your doc could tell you if these are appropriate.
      Metoprolol decreases the heart rate so yes, the slow heart rate could very well be from metoprolol. I have many patients with resting heart rates in the 40's who do well with that, so the heart rate numbers of 50 to 60, aren't generally numbers I worry about for my patients.
      Best Wishes!

      Hi Stephanie, yes I have had patients with improvement in these symptoms with time. I encourage people with symptoms like you describe to avoid caffeine and other stimulants entirely, avoid alcohol, stay active by doing routine exercise they enjoy and tolerate.
      I have many patients with fluttering //heart pounding. I often prescribe metoprolol to take on an as needed basis, for when the person is having a bad day. Some people find they feel better if they take it daily.
      When I have someone who is wary of taking the med, but I think there is a good chance it could be helpful, I encourage him or her to take a half tablet of metoprolol, or even a quarter tablet, to get some idea of how the medicine might affect them.
      Metoprolol is a safe, effective, non-addictive medication that works well for many of my patients with heart pounding symptoms.

    • @CardioGauge
      @CardioGauge  6 лет назад +4

      Thanks for your comment. The problem you're having is relatively common. It sounds like inappropriate sinus tachycardia. Alternatively, it could be POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome). People with inappropriate sinus tachycardia will have fast heart rate while lying down, basically all the time, and have an average heart rate of greater than 100 bpm over the day. People with POTS only have tachycardia when they stand up.
      Unfortunately, in spite of these conditions being common, their cause is poorly explained, like you indicate. Basically every cardiologist out there has patients with symptoms like yours, without a good explanation for why they are occurring. An electrophysiologist (heart rhythm specialist) is the highest level specialist for dealing with your symptom. I have sent patients to the Cleveland clinic for evaluation for this. At the Cleveland clinic, they don't come up with anything different from what I had come up with.
      The most common response of the heart doc to your symptom would be to try a beta blocker, like metoprolol. I have never seen it cause heart failure in a patient with your situation. 25 mg is a very small dose. Maximum dose of metoprolol is 400 mg per day. If I had a patient in your shoes who was worried about the side effects of the medication, I would encourage them to try taking a tiny dose of metoprolol to see what happened. Like half or 1/4 of a 25 mg tablet. It would take a few hours to know how you felt with the medication. It would wear off after 12 hours or so. Alternatives to metoprolol would be ivabridine, verapamil, digoxin, and any other beta blocker, like nadolol, bisoprolol, atenolol, etc.
      You can check out this link, it has a lot of information about inappropriate sinus tachycardia. In it the doctor talks about ablation treatment for the problem, which I generally don't recommend. However overall, I really like the article the doctor wrote.

I still havent taken it though because I'm afraid to.

      Because I’m not your doctor I can’t tell you what to do. But I can tell you that I personally do not like medications, but on some occasions I have had to try them. I used to have migraines, and got to the point where I had to take something, it was amytriptiline. The side effects were awful, but it helped my headaches a lot. I stopped it after a month, I don’t think I will ever take it again. The side effects went away entirely.
      My point of saying this is that IF you got side effects, they would go away with time, hours if you just took a little bit.
      I have patients with inappropriate sinus tachycardia where metoprolol has helped them. Definitely doesn’t help everyone, but it has indeed helped some. It’s like 50/50 chance it will help. I have never had a patient in your shoes who was permanently damaged by metoprolol.
      I hope this helps, best wishes...

      @CardioGauge  5 лет назад

      Hi Stasi, I cant give you direct medical advice, only your doc can do that for you, however I offer the following for health education:
      metoprolol does not cause chest pain in my experience. It would be unlikely to make you cough, if it didn't make you cough when you took it before. I doubt the metoprolol caused what happened to you.
      It is common for people to cough and then feel a chest pain. this would most likely be due to a rib muscle strain, or ligament strain, neither of which are serious. While rarely a dangerous condition can be caused by a cough, this would be very unlikely if the person did not have significant out of breath along with the chest pain.

    • @CardioGauge
      @CardioGauge  4 года назад +1

      Hi James. Basically it depends on why you are taking metoprolol. If you are taking it for blood pressure, then yes, it is possible to get off the med by losing weight, exercising routinely, and eating a healthy diet (I consider the best diet to be a no sugar, high fruit and vegetable intake diet). Low sodium can obviously help as well. Metoprolol is a weak blood pressure medication, and 25 mg twice a day is a low dose, so it is probably decreasing your top number pressure (systolic) by something like 5 points. The goal average blood pressure established by Medical Trade Organizations (ACC / AHA) is 130/80. So if you are averaging in the 120's, your doc might consider taking you off it. Best wishes.

    • @CardioGauge
      @CardioGauge  4 года назад +1

      Hi iSync, metoprolol succinate 100 mg once a day = metoprolol tartrate 50 mg twice a day. So mg for mg it is the same dose. It’s just that the succinate version is released into the bloodstream slower so you only have to take it once a day. Hope that answers your question!

    • @isynciswim7382
      @isynciswim7382 4 года назад

      CardioGauge
      Does succinate lead to more steady effects bc tartrate felt like a peak and valley circus. I heard that succinate has a steady level all day while tartrate sort of had a peak and then dwindled down after a while and that the serum levels in the blood were much higher at the peak of the tartrate compared to succinate which could have been the source of my energy problems but that was from googling and i know that is very dangerous once you do deep dive on meds when I don’t really know that much pharmacology.
      I should mention I was originally put on it for panic disorder but it’s turned into a blood pressure med for me these days though I still struggle with anxiety. It’s a bit of a “cure-all” for me so far.

    Dr. what if the medication doesn't work? My cardiologist started me with 50 mg er along with lisinipril 10mg and amolodipine 5mg. That didn't help he raised my metoprolol er to 100 mg keeping the other two meds as well. Since I'm so nervous...and my blood pressure is normal at home, but high at docs he raised me to 200 mg a day with the other two meds. I have high heart rate in office. I'm afraid of the high dosage. I have a pacemaker as well. I have to see my cardiologist on the 18th to review my results.

    • @CardioGauge
      @CardioGauge  6 лет назад +1

      Hi, Sorry for the delay in reply. Because you have a pacemaker, you are protected from the most dangerous side effect of metoprolol, which is slow heart rate. So it doesn't seem like you should necessarily be afraid of the high dosage. It will be all about how you feel with medication, And what your numbers are. Your doctor will probably Check your heart rate from time to time by looking at the pacemaker information.
      Best wishes.

    I’m hoping you are still replying to comments on this video. I have been taking this medicine twice a day since September. The side effects are the worst. I also got diagnosed with hypothyroidism and I’m currently taking Levothyroxine for that. I’m not sure which medicine is causing these side effects and I would love to get off the beta blocker. I have cold hands and feet, tunnel vision,lightheadness,I’m extremely tired and I have totally lost my appetite and sex drive. I’m only 36 and it feels like a death sentence. I wore a holter monitor and they determined that I have brief instances of tachycardia. I was still complaining about the symptoms and I was given a echocardiogram and they noticed that I had trace mitral valve prolapse. I’ve gone to my cardiologist and I don’t think he believes me when it comes to my side effects. My pcp thinks this is all anxiety based but I’m telling them no one would be ok with having problems with their heart. Too many questions not enough answers. Do you think it would be possible for me to totally ween of this medicine or is this something I’ll need for the rest of my life? Thank you so much for your time.

      I haven't heard anyone say they were urinating more after taking metoprolol, however, it's possible. Regarding her feeling high, it can definitely affect people's moods. The medication Could cause this.
      When my patients have weird symptoms with taking medications, I generally have them stop for a week or two, and see if the symptoms go away. If so, I conclude that their symptoms were due to the medication.

My bloodpressure is 135 over 85 with a pulse 101..... It was 145 over 100 with a pulse rate 90 2 weeks before taking lisinopril...... It never made much of a heart difference and I had night sweats.... Woke up to try and take my pill..... Fainted twice..... Should I just go jog? I lost 25 pounds just eating less... I don't smoke, don't drink, and have had Zero Caffeine for those 2 weeks.

    • @CardioGauge

      If you passed out on lisinopril, I wonder if your blood pressure is actually high or not. In my patients who have some high blood pressure readings but they pass out on medication, I will do a 24 hour blood pressure monitor, which is a test where we get 100 blood pressure readings throughout the day.
      High blood pressure is a very common problem and it is unusual for it to kill someone at the age of less than 50. So You will very likely see your daughter grow up! If you work with your doctor and take care of yourself, you can live to a ripe old age.

    • @CardioGauge
      @CardioGauge  6 лет назад

      Hi Sunil. "Mild con LVH" is an abbreviation for "Mild Concentric Left Ventricular Hypertrophy." This means your left ventricle, which is the main pumping chamber of the heart, is thicker than normal. The most common cause of this is high blood pressure, however, many people with normal hearts can have mild concentric left ventricular hypertrophy.
      I do not specifically treat people for mild concentric left ventricular hypertrophy. If the person has high blood pressure, then I treat the high blood pressure.
      The part of the report that says "EF 60" is an abbreviation for ejection fraction is 60%. This refers to the percentage of blood pumped out of the heart with each beat. 60% is completely normal. The normal range is 50-65%.
      Hope that helps!

    I know it doesnt make sense but can it cause fast heartbeat? Three months after using it my heartbeats go up to 200 with little activity.From the moment I wake up,I cant do anything withoout my heartbeat going at least 130,140.All my ecgs and echocardiograms resulted fine so I dont know who can I blame

    • @CardioGauge
      @CardioGauge  6 лет назад

      Metoprolol is a treatment for fast heart rate. So if your heart rate is higher after starting it than it was before you started it, that would be unusual. Sometimes my patients will have symptom of fast heart rate when the metoprolol wears off. The short acting version of the medicine, metoprolol tartrate ( as opposed to the long acting metoprolol succinate), wears off after about 12 hours, so some patients in the evening will have palpitations when the morning dose wears off.
      How are you measuring your heart rate?

I recomend you to do blood test of tyroid and electrolytes, before taking metoprolol and also the tilt test to know if is dysautonomia POTS , because in some cases , the beta blockers worsen the symptons in POTS lowering to much their BP while standing and causing more tachycardia.

    Hello Nathan,
    I am back on Toprol XL 2x25mg a day. The dreams are very vivid and I do get somewhat tired when I first take it in the AM. I notice it has been really slowing down my heart rate to a comfortable level. My last BP reading was 143/95. It used to be 170/115. I have been running 5x a week at least 3 miles, and cut down my sodium intake. It hasn't even been a month of medication as of yet, but can you recommend any other prescriptions to help to take along with this medication? I also take L-Arganine and COQ10 with Fish oil. Do these really help?

    • @CardioGauge
      @CardioGauge  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Robo Fried,When dealing with blood pressures, I always talk to my patients about averages, rather than one time measurements. If your pressure was averaging 170/115 and is now averaging 143/95, that is really an awesome improvement. I wouldn't expect metoprolol 25 mg x2 to accomplish all that reduction. So the exercise is probably helping a lot, and the L-Arginine can help too.I usually wait a couple months before adding more medications in people in your situation (substantial improvement in pressure with one medication, but pressure not yet normal). If the average pressure is still high (generally more than 140/90) 2 months later, I increase dose or add another medication. Since you are having some fatigue, and vivid dreams with the metoprolol, I would choose another medication to add, rather than increase the metoprolol, for someone in your situation.There are many possibilities. Amlodipine, lisinopril, or chlorthalidone would be standard choices. Amlodipine is the best tolerated, in my experience. It is generic, does not require blood testing, and usually doesn't cause a lot of side effects.L-Arginine is a legit supplement for blood pressure. Dosing not totally known, but I think it starts around 2 grams 3 times a day.Disclaimer: Since I am not your doctor, I can't make any recommendations for you. The above is provided for health education, not medical advice.Best Wishes!

    • @davefried81
      @davefried81 7 лет назад

      Nathan Ritter Thank you for your response! I will continue to take the L arganine. I notice my blood flows alot better. have you seen benefits from coq10? Thanks again!!

    • @CardioGauge
      @CardioGauge  7 лет назад +2

      Sorry for the delay. COq10 has been used for so many different medical problems. I don't think it has been definitely proven for sure to work for anything. However, in use for blood pressure, it could work. I have no experience in recommending it for high blood pressure. Preliminary study is encouraging. 200 mg per day is a medium level dose for use in blood pressure.
      The only way to know if it works for you is to see what your blood pressure is with and without it. Measuring the pressure once or twice wouldn't be enough to know, it would have to be checked 10-20 times, around the same time of day, say checking in the morning when you awaken, and in the evening before bed, and comparing the measurements when on or off CoQ10.

    • @CardioGauge
      @CardioGauge  5 лет назад +2

      Hi Thicket20. I can’t tell you directly what to do because I am not your doctor. However, I can say that because metoprolol 25 mg is a low dose, taking 10 mg of propranolol on top of that (also a low dose) would likely be tolerated fine. It would make sense to try that before a rehearsal of whatever was being performed or presented, to see what happened.
      Some people find that metoprolol curbs performance anxiety, I don’t know if you have had any performances while already on metoprolol.
      Another option for someone in your shoes would be to take something other than metoprolol for blood pressure. There are many examples. In fact metoprolol is no longer commonly used a blood pressure medication. I use amlodipine as a first BP med for many patients.
      Best wishes!

      Hi Carol, I occasionally have a patient that experiences this with metoprolol. Bottom line is, either can be used, and some people do better with metoprolol, others do better with propranolol. Hope that helps!

      That is an unusual regimen. I haven't ever used it like that. It doesn't sound harmful, just inconvenient.

      Hi Italian Stallion, when someone is tapering off Valium, it is typical to have high blood pressure. This generally improves over time, could take weeks.
      Metoprolol could decrease withdrawal symptoms from Valium. I don’t treat Valium withdrawal because I am a cardiologist, but yes, metoprolol is one of the medications that could be used for this purpose.
      Metoprolol 50 mg per day is a pretty low dose. 400 mg per day would be the highest dose. When my patients are worried about how metoprolol will affect them, I encourage them to take half the pill or even a quarter of the pill, to see what happens. Metoprolol is a very basic medication that has been around for thirty years, and bad reactions with low doses are very very rare!

      Regarding your history of high cholesterol and triglycerides, these don’t really relate to your situation right now, as you are trying to taper the Valium. These should be addressed long term by eating right (whole food plant based, or as close to it as you can get), and exercising routinely doing something you enjoy 5 times a week (variety in exercise is important to avoid injury).

      Thanks. I've been on it for the last couple of days with no side effects once my blood pressure Stables out what is the right protocol to come off of it can this medication just be taken for 4 months 5 months and is the same taper as any other drug

      When I stop metoprolol 50 mg in one of my patients, I typically cut the dose in half for a week and then stop. Higher doses of metoprolol would be tapered more gradually. Occasionally, a person will get palpitations or other symptom when decreasing the dose and I will taper more slowly. It is not a long drawn out thing though.
