@listening4lessons I had no fear about cholesterol since mine was good overall. The most important predictor of heart health is the triglyceride/hdl ratio and it should be 2 or less. My triglycerides, which had not been high, dropped to 56 and my hdl, which was borderline ok at 41 rose to 76. Therefore my ratio is .74 which is very good. I've been on Metoprolol tartrate for 21 years. My current VA doctor cut my dosage by half without asking, then she let my prescription lapse, no refills available. The VA has left me without meds many times over the years. It affects my health negatively. Right now, I have been out of another med I have to take daily, for 3 weeks. I've been on metoprolol for a long time. I've been losing my hair faithfully with dryness and, I didn't know it could be my medicine. I thought it was due to my thyroid. Thanks DOCTOR.
It still might be your thyroid. Did you know that an iodine deficiency can mimic HBP by making your heart beat faster? I didn't. Look it up yourself and get a clean iodine supplement. You might want to take it for a couple of weeks and go get your thyroid functions checked, and revisit your BP status. You might be surprised.
Following a quadruple bypass I was put on Metropolol. I still was in a-fib. However, my overall physical condition was quite strong, even resumed working out to a degree, perhaps a little sooner than they had prescribed, but it worked out fine. Then after taking it for perhaps a month or two, it hit me like a freight train. My energy dropped off the table, I was getting dizzy with even a small expenditure of energy. I asked some of my more knowledgeable natural healers and they knew about the toxic end of Metropolol. I immediately stopped taking it, informed my doctor and he was OK with it. My strength returned soon after and my path to getting better resumed. This was nearly 5 years ago and I have eliminated all but two pharmaceuticals for my heart condition. Going more natural sorry big pharma, you lost me.
I had rather similar experiences ad you. But I had no idea it was from the Metoprolol! I figured it out quite by accident really. Stopped taking it & feel like a new person! Yup.....going more natural now. Thanks for sharing. ❤

A doctor finally told me how to safely detox off of beta blockers. I got a pill cutter. Starting with 25 mg pills. I cut my pills in quarters and took three of them once a day for 10 days. Then I cut my pills in half for another 10 days. Then I spent the next day taking only one quarter of a pill a day. By the end of that month I was taking so little that it no longer mattered. Doctors don't want us to know how to safely detox. That way they can say "I told you so" when you end up in the hospital for abruptly stopping your medication.

Informative Video, Thank you! Has anyone experienced bluish/purplish hands and feet especially whenever you're in large rooms and hallways with temperatures normally around 65 degrees (Not freezing, just chilly). For me, it starts about half way down around the forearms then a dark shade of blue or purple in the hands and fingers. If you press down on the skin, it immediately turns white, then back to the darker shade. I work in a county prison that doesn't ever seem to warm up and I thought I heard that Metoprolol can cause this in skin when chilled. I was diagnosed with type two diabetes in October and put on this medicine in November for AF. In the last seven months between these two medication’s I’ll have put on approximately 8 pounds. I am not happy about this because I have changed my diet and I am exercising every day. I think this medicine has some positive effects and I have not had any other bad side effects. I am just unhappy about the weight gain because I have always had a high metabolism. I don’t want to become a pyramid pill popper! Going to the cardiologist today to discuss this. Took this drug for a few years. This drug results in 300-400 calorie deficit a day that this many calories are not burned per day even with exercise. Metoprolol reduces your normal metabolism calorie burning by as much as 30%. This results in tiredness ,lethargy. In other words you are adding 400 calories of fat a day and exercising will only make up for this; you cannot lose weight no matter what you do when taking Metoprolol. I've been on 25 mg ER for 3 months. I love that it helps with not only my high blood pressure but anxiety. I have noticed the fatigue and bouts of depression though,
Hi Tori. I just started taking 25mg. I’m worried about the weight gain that comes with as well as lowering metabolism. Have you had any of these issues? Thanks I’m advance!
@@daniellerusso8172 Yes, I've definitely noticed that I've slowed down and gained weight but I don't know if it's because of this drug or the fact that I'm a stressed nursing student.
@@torimalin3568 Do you take it once or twice a day? I'm on the same medication the doctor prescribed it for twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night but I see most people only take it once a day since it's the extended release.
Then what you have done? R u still on this metoprolol
wait until your hair starts thinning and the circulation in your legs goes south and you start having "minor" heart issues. Those blisters don't heal. Give it about a year, then come back and tell us how you feel.
Great information. I've been taking Metoprolol for 17 years but did not know some of these things. Grateful.
Glad it was helpful!
Good Night! 17 Years is a long time!! May I ask the dosage? I took metoprolol for about a year or so and had cut my dosage down to 12 and a half mgs. So Quiting was Easy-Peasy!😊 Glad to have my old energy level back!!😉😎
I've been on Metoprolol tartrate for 21 years. My current VA doctor cut my dosage by half without asking, then she let my prescription lapse, no refills available. The VA has left me without meds many times over the years. It affects my health negatively. Right now, I have been out of another med I have to take daily, for 3 weeks. I have called and asked for new script/refills 3 times. They said she can't write any of my meds till she sees me in office. Yet, it can be weeks or months before you get an appointment. Over the years with the VA, they have left me in a position of not having the meds I need every day, causing my health to be bad.
I’m so sorry this is happening to you! There is no excuse for all this BS! I wish I could advise you on how to cut through all the Red Tape! I wont forget your story, Im always researching on the web every day. If I search and I come across something that may be important to help solve your problem! Keep your chin up the best that you can, you just never know from day to day what miracles may happen! 🇺🇸🙏
Metoprolol gave me auditory and visual hallucinations. I was given an overdose in the ER because they couldnt get my B/P down. I missed 4 days. I came to in the State Hospital. I remember it reminded how I felt and acted of an Alzheimers patient. It took 18 months to figure out what was causing me those halucinations. I finally figured it out for myself, and I took myself off those beta blockers. and my physician told me to be very quiet and calm and no hard physical activity for a week so as not to excite my heart into another attack. I will never take another beta blocker, never
My father was hospitalized and we couldn’t figure out what was wrong with him till I did my own searching on the web and seen this pill 😔 he is taking it and has been hallucinating and depressed.
Been having hallucinations for months. Cut my dose in half told dr cannot take the lack of sleep and "seeing things" Dr insists it has nothing to do with metoprolol. At this time my problems are cut 50% by reducing dosage. We'll see. MRI etc dementia blah blah... problem must be anything BUT this drug says Dr. Now taking matters in to my own hand, Theanine, magnesium; vit D- things like that.
Sometimes the medication is worse then the disease lol would not take this medication

I have also taken this drug for quite a few years- No issues. Thank you for your review- enjoyed it.
I've been on metoprolol for a long time. I've been losing my hair faithfully with dryness and, I didn't know it could be my medicine. I thought it was due to my thyroid.
Thanks DOCTOR.
Welcome.

Which two medications are you still taking?
Sherry, I take only two, Eliquis and Carvedilol. Basically both blood thinners, another symptom drug. The rest are supplements and exercise
@@alexanderhorvat4836 Simply put, Eliquis was truly bad shit to me. I didn't care for Plavix because if I had a nosebleed it would last several minutes, and I do martial arts and while the bruising from sparring wasn't drastic it was showing up at times. They are really trying to push the former and the "side" effects were horrid compared to Plavix.
Of all the meds I take, Metoprolol affected me more than any of the others. I've never felt the same since I started taking it.

Metoprolol made me feel very unwell after only a few doses. I had extreme fatigue to the point of not wanting to even get out of bed.
Right at first it did make me feel very tired. Lowered the dose to about half and feel much more like my old self again!
@@gloriamaryhaywood2217, I didn't really continue with that medication since it was substituted for another of my B/P meds, Atenolol, when there was a temporary shortage of it. Another pharmacy had it in stock so the problem was solved pretty fast. According to my pharmacist, sometimes it is the additives in the medication rather than the medication itself that a person is sensitive to. I'm glad you found a solution to your problem with it.

According to medical journals, stopping suddenly can cause chest pain, heart attack's and death. I regret ever going on a batá blocker. I was not advised about these side effects.
I took it for a couple of weeks. Hated it a just stopped taking it. My dr. Freaked out. He told me never just stop taking something. Call her first.
The withdrawal of quitting sucked but being free from the devil grip it amazing.
You have to question anything that's said to be taken for the rest of your life.
Nothing needs to be taken forever.

I use the Tartrate (twice daily) for previous artery blockages which caused the need for a quadruple bypass 14 years ago and fine since using Vytorin for Cholestrol. Thank you!

I have periodic, occasional tachycardia, sometimes with arrhythmia. I only take this medicine when I need it, during these attacks. Tried to take on regular schedule but found heart rate way too low to be functional. Using it this way works for me. I took that shit for years. No more. I changed my diet, lost weight and exercise regularly.
Metoprolol is also an”old” drug and most savvy doctors do not prescribe it anymore due to it’s many bad side effects. Other more favorable drugs are available.
Which ones are better? Metoprolol is horrible for me
