I've been on atorvastatin for over a year since my heart attack at age 46. I've been having issues with memory loss, fatigue, sleep disturbance, and hair loss since taking it. I ran out 4 days ago and my refill has not arrived yet. I am already having improvement in memory issues and sleep disturbance. I will probably not be resuming it.
I have had every single side effect listed, and I didn’t know what was causing my body to break down this drug this pharmaceutical drug have ruining my life and I’m sure the life of Manny would you like to all of us to get together and sue this pharmaceutical drug company is anybody out there with me this is enough there’s too many of us
I was prescribed atorvastatin for mildly elevated cholesterol. I did not develop the more common muscle aches. Instead I gradually started having severe indigestion, frequent heartburn, pain in stomach, broken blood vessels in my feet, and other seemingly unrelated symptoms. After 18 months, I became severely ill with hepatitis, jaundice and hemolytic anemia. The prescribing doctor started running multiple tests and trying to blame my problems on one cup of coffee per day and occasional glass of wine with dinner. At my worst, I dropped 10 pounds in a week, no appetite, and couldn’t walk up a flight of stairs. After 4 weeks, she realized how sick I was and I was admitted to hospital where I was treated by a hematologist, infectious disease doctor, and cardiologist. All had their own theories and treatments for me. I did some research and decided to stop atorvastatin against doctor’s orders. I immediately started to feel better and 10 months later have regained most of my energy. Doctors still recommend that I take a statin, just a different one. My answer is NO, NEVER AGAIN!
I got my cholesterol level fairly low and I ask the doctor to get me out of my statin and he said "no". I went ahead and cut my 40 mg down to 20 mg and if my cholesterol remains low, after a year, I'm taken myself off statin and wait for my next blood test. Sometimes, doctors do not pay too much attention to your health. You are just one of many patients. I'm still taking Xralto for my Afib and Metoprolol Succinate for my blood pressure and heartbeat. I'm good for a 90 year old.
I was put on statins and other drugs for over 20 years and still had 2 more heart attacks, 12 stents and 2 endarterectomies. One day I just made up my mind to quit all meds, get off sugar, alcohol, grain and processed food. I felt great after about a month. Dropped 30 lbs in two months, waist down by 2 inches. Had a blood test and cholesterol was thru the roof, 400+. Dr insisted on stats again and I finally agreed to only statin but none of the others. I now feel sluggish, put on weight, headachy, and generally fatigued. One more blood test in about two weeks only because I made the deal with doc, then I’m off again. I’m not convinced cholesterol is a problem if I live a clean lifestyle.
Was threatened with heart attack, stroke, if I did not take the statin. Twenty five years later, I’m still going strong. There’s such a thing as quality of life over quantity of life.
so should i ingest this poison or not??? I was told same thing well my 2 bottle of this rosuv are unopened i received this week so much for that idea my drs idea not mine screw that I told her i was getting intense migraines on the sustatin and then got this rosuv but nope these comments are too many like the jab takers i am not a test mouse
@@madonnahagedorn5649 I just did battle last week. LDL of 135 on carnivore diet with ALL other measures GREAT! I won that battle. Dr. Left the room in a huff! He thought I'd just say, "okay" where do I pick up my meds...
True quality of life is more important than quantity of life. Last week I just went and had a blood test and everything was good except for my cholesterol, it had gone up a fair bit as the last 6 months I had increased my consumption of meat and eggs. Doctor suggested statins and I said I would not take it. I would just modify my diet I would never take it, he wasn't happy. I am not going to be manipulated or bullied into taking something I don't want to take. You have to stand your ground.
That is because they are married to the pharmaceutical industry! Statins were approved by the pharmaceutical that created them. True story is skewed and hidden. This can also impact the brain. Which is why I weaned off! People on statins, guess what...still have strokes or heart attacks....too many lies for $$ in their pocket!
Started taking Rosuvastatin ( 5 mg 3x a week) about a year ago. I am now a type II diabetic, I have memory loss, confusion, dizziness and lightheadedness. This information confirmed what I thought. I took my last dose yesterday. No more!
@@fool9111z You can't tell me how drugs affected my body. I know how I felt when I was taking Rosuvastatin and I know how I feel now that I no longer take the drug.
After two years of high LDL a doctor finally scared me into taking Rosuvastatin 20 mg once a day. All of my other diabetic tests came out perfect. My HDL was 84, triglycerides 82, Blood pressure 118/80. My feet look great. I am not overweight. I eat keto carnivore. Immediately after the first pill I felt spacey. I was driving home and it’s as if I’m here then a few yards later I’m here missing part of the drive. Then my knee started aching. I’m a 1.5 Diabetic with a CGM. My previous dexcom G7 tracking showed my blood sugar was always level between 80 and 135 for several months. Then after starting the statins my blood sugar was all over the place. Never below 125 mg/dl. Had to start taking more insulin. Then one night at bedtime my heart started feeling like it was going to shoot out of my chest and it was fluttering like crazy, The next afternoon I could feel my heart fluttering and I stopped taking the statins. I was on them for two weeks. It’s been six weeks since I stopped and The heart pounding fluttering at bedtime started up again. And both my legs ache 24/7. Not just the knees but the entire legs. So one night I got up to take some aspirin for the legs and I noticed it calmed my heart down. Next night same thing so now I just take two baby aspirin every night before bed. Sent a text message to my doctor and I’ve gotten the silent treatment. I was taking 100 mg two times a day of CoQ 10 while on the statins. I have read that this leg pain can either go away in 7 to 10 months, or it could be permanent, or I could end up in a wheelchair. I also read that people who have leg pain that liver and kidney damage that goes along with it.!🤬 I’m sure if I ask my doctor what’s happening to this extra insulin in my body that’s not being utilized tthey’re going to tell me that it’s not harmful. High insulin levels are damaging. Also the aspirin does not take the leg pain away. Let me add that I’m going to a functional medicine doctor next week. Also the only medical person that’s ever helped me and not hurt me more was a naturopath. I’ve moved so he’s over 200 miles away but I’m going to make an appointment also to go see him in the spring. Looking back there has not been 1 Western medical Dr. that’s helped me in this journey. They have all done harm! And ignore the food pyramid. Find out what works for you.
I nursed my mother for 20yrs and am still nursing my husband after 32yrs. Both of them were given statins, Atorvastatin and Simvastatin and due to potentially serious side effects I stopped them both. My mother lived until 96 and my husband is 79. The improvement was complete after stopping them.
Bravo! A week after I started statins I did not know the name of my dog I had for five years. Joint aches, muscle aches, trouble sleeping. Stopped the statins and three days later all was fine. Best of luck to all of us!!
Me too. I was very confused and upset by the extreme confusion. My closest loved ones started really worried about my mental state, thinking it was Alzheimer’s. Luckily I had a thought to check out side effects of the statin my doctor hectored me to take. There it was in black and white. Muscle aches - check. Confusion - triple check…Dizziness - double check… I quit taking it and the side effects went away. I will take my chances with my cholesterol.
I’ve been taking Rosuvastatin for about 15 yrs. I am now 78 yrs old. I used to get such cramps in my legs that I was disabled for several weeks. I tried other ways, but didn’t work. I had good Drs., I decided to find out myself. One day I was browsing in my pharmacy and noticed an over the counter product called “ Restful Legs “ made by Hyland’s. I take the PM kind. I started taking my Rosuvastin and the leg pill every other day and my cholesterol is fine and I don’t get cramps…. I hope this helps others like me in some way😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Years ago, I was prescribed a statin from a doctor and I said, " No thank you." And I never had the prescription filled. Never would take it. I think the best advice is to change what you eat, and excercise.
The problem is 80% of your cholesterol is made in your liver so it doesn't matter if alot of people change there diet.. These side effects are super rare this video is dangerous. If you research every study with large amounts of people the mortality rates of people on statins are dramatically lower than those on placebo. In addition there was a study with like 40,000 people they gave half people statins and half placebo... 95% of the people reported muscles weakness and side effects lol.
@@boostercontrol100You should look at other videos with these same complaints. Who cares if you live longer but are in constant pain? That is no quality of life. I know. I’m taking care of a gentleman on it and he CONSTANTLY complains throughout the day of pain from his head to his toe. He’s on Avorstatin. I, too, was prescribed it. Haven’t taken 1 pill. I don’t care if I die sooner because of not taking it. His quality of life is miserable. He says at least once a day that he wants to die. He just turned 70. Yea, I will NEVER take any of these Big Pharma statins!
Wow. I was having pain in my upper arm, thought I had torn a ligament or ruptured muscle. I quit my statin and it went away. Until I saw this video, I never associated that pain with the statin. I worked in a hospital chemistry years ago, and did chemistry profiles, including cholesterol. The high normal was 300. As soon as statins were developed, the high normal got dropped to 200, in order to sell their new drug. Always keep that info in mind when making your own decisions about your meds. I am a retired RN and I can assure you that our Healthcare system is not about making people well, there is far more money in keeping the population sick. It is ALL about the $$$$$.
Thank you so much for this. I have a similar problem with immobilising pain and thought it must be tendon or ligament. After two X-rays and now waiting for MRI results I feel sure that the problem could be the Atorvastatin 20mg at night which was prescribed about 6 months ago. I agreed to take it, against my better judgement! I feel so much happier now after deciding to check on Utube and so very glad to read your post. Thank you most sincerely Ann 🙋♀️
Yep that is exactly what happens with statins. Unbelievable the tendon pain in my shoulders I got. I injured them yrs ago but they were fully healed. It felt like I re-injured them.
I had a severe bout of pancreatitis about a decade ago and, after much testing, it was concluded that it was a very rare adverse reaction to statins. A few years later my doctor suggested that I try statins again to guard against developing high cholesterol. Soon I was back in the hospital again with pancreatitis. I don't take statins anymore.
Been off them for 5 days now. I had the aches / pains ,memory loss , migraines and it was years of me just taking them blindly. Looked into articles online and decided to doctor myself and stopped the medication. It’s an awful world when we can’t rely on the medical experts for help. I’ll be seeking out a holistic doctor
Can'y BLINDLY trust doctors or lawyers. They are not Gods. Plenty of info on the internet. ALWAYS investigate your meds: interactions and side effects BEFORE taking them! Double check your Dr.
I have issues with this. If you can't trust your Dr then get another until you find one that communicates by listening as well as prescribing. Just like everyone else physician's are fallible. Also there are those that just seem curt or terse. Again switch if needed. My youngest likes that kind of dr but she has a lot of medical knowledge and can converse with them knowledgeably. I like ones who listen to my issues. I go to a practice that has 4 supervising Dr's and about 8 interns who are still learning and very open with new knowledge. I have several issues, including Long Covid, which means one of my daughters or my 25 year old g'daughter must go with me. I also get detailed chart info on line. Being proactive about your medicines and health is a very important part of the Dr patient relationship.
So true and they tell me when I go see them that I'm wasting thier time because I won't take all the stuff they prescribe. I've been to so many already and I can't find a better one. So I pray to MY GOD and he hears me and heals me. I've tapered off on my own I only take 1/2 of 0.5 mg a night for sleep. Sometimes even less than that.
I’ve been on different statins and had serious side effects. And thought that I would have to quit my job because I was having trouble walking. The statins affected my muscles. So I no longer take them. Thank you for this very informative video.
Been on statins since mini stroke have suffered worst Pain ever lost 1stone in 8 weeks severe muscle wastage and put it all down to my rheumatoid when I need to turn over in bed many times I have almost cried with the pain thank god I read this needless to say no more statins
@@barrywoods8312 glad you made the connection and stopped! How are you feeling now? I understand that for a very rare few it can be irreversible. For some it stops soon after discontinuing. For many it takes a while. Hope you are feeling MUCH better! And THANK YOU SOOO MUCH for sharing your story here. Between you and several others, my mind is made up. No statins for me!!
Was told I must take statins, after 8 months I was crawling up stairs, couldn't hold my arms up long enough to dress , or pick up kettle, without severe pain and total weakness. Then had double vision in one eye and needed special lens to be able to read. I stopped taking tablets , against doctor's advice and it was two years before I was more or less back to normal mobility etc but what a waste of nearly three years of my life.
@@tessalister1226 how awful! I am sooo sorry! I'm so proud of you for going off of them even against Dr's orders! Did that doc ever acknowledge that it was the statins that all but crippled you?
YES I had complete memory loss ending up in hospital for two days . I stopped taking simverstatin immediately. No problems since . Glad to see this medically confirmed.
I took simvastatin for ages with no side affects. My husband started taking it and ended up in so much pain. I just happen to read somewhere about a man who had ended up in a wheelchair and his friend had problems as well, so told my husband to speak to our GP and he told him to stop taking them. Luckily he recovered.
@@monicas2269 Want dementia ? While your brain represents about 2-3% of your total body weight, 25% of the cholesterol in your body is found in your brain, where it plays important roles in such things as membrane function, acts as an antioxidant, and serves as the raw material from which we are able to make things like progesterone, estrogen, cortisol, testosterone and even vitamin D. In fact, in a recent study available on the NIH Public Access site, researchers showed that in the elderly, the best memory function was observed in those with the highest levels of cholesterol. Low cholesterol is associated with an increased risk for depression and even death. This understanding of the important role of cholesterol in brain function raises concern as we now see changes in recommendations for prescribing statin medication. Some estimates indicate that moving forward, the number of individuals taking statins to lower cholesterol in America may actually double! This presents a worrisome proposition for brain health.
My mother had Alzheimer, dementia pretty bad and we couldn't trace it back to anything else. No family history with these diseases, just statins . We weaned her off s few drugs, her health got better but she didn't remember us.
A couple of years ago my wife was put on statins for cholesterol. After 3 weeks she developed eye problems where her eyesight was dim and one eye her sight was restricted. Just a few weeks prior to that she had gotten new glasses which included a full eye exam. She went back to the eye doctor and a re-exam showed a problem. I don't remember exactly if it was a hemorrhage or what, but the doctor said some type of trauma had taken place and that her eye would never get better. We tried to figure out what this trauma could have been. I don't know what made us think of the statins, but looked it up on the internet and found out that it was a known side-effect. My wife asked her medical doctor about it and was told there was no correlation. Even so, my wife decided to stop the statins just to see. Within a few days her vision became brighter and after a few months she regained her eyesight completely.
@@novelera1965 The doctor told my wife to keep taking them, but what we read online she stopped taking them right away. It took a couple of months for her eyesight to get back to normal even though the doctor said it never would. If you google it, you'll see it's a known issue. I really believe if my wife had continued to take the statins that she would be blind now in that eye. Hope your condition improves. Let me know if it does. I'm curious.
@@ravenregards I can relate. I ended up with macular degeneration from taking tamoxifen following breast cancer (Dr insisted and I took against my own gut level instinct )
@@susancook1448 I am so sorry. Statins seem to be bad all the way around. On TV they show all sorts of medications and list a bazillioin side effects, but I don't think I've ever seen such a listing for statins. To me it's criminal that we aren't told upfront. You might check with an herbalist. Sometimes they can do wonders. Doctors will tell you as they did my wife that nothing can be done and you'll never get better. I wish you the best.
I got double vision. It lasted about 3 months. It was very disabling, A very rare side effect of statins. Doc changed my prescription. but I now have very severe muscle aches and weakness. I don't take them any more!
Years ago my doctor insisted I go onto stations for a 7.2 cholesterol reading. I refused but decided to improve my diet. I made 3 changes. Replaced low fat margarine for good quality full fat butter, Yes healthy butter! Gluten free diet and cut out mutton all together. Within 1 month my levels dropped to a perfect 5 and 10 years later, still all good! Dr's are far too eager to just stick everyone onto statins and its ludicrous!
Good job in dropping your points. A few years ago I switched to imported Irish butter and I have recently tried the fake butter, but I just cannot eat it anymore. I do not take the pharma statins, but I occasionally take the natural plant statin called, "Nature Made CholestOff". I didn't measure how much of this product has made a change, but I have also changed my diet while working from home since March 2020. My cholesterol has dropped 50 points, down to 175.
The body produces 75% of its own cholesterol irrespective of what diet you eat and for those that have additional health risks such as type 2 diabetes ischaemic heart disease hypertension then that’s why they get prescribed so frequently. I tried every type and just couldn’t get on with them due to some very unpleasant side effects, I do agree that they are prescribed to readily though along with antidepressants - but that’s a rant for another day lol
I've had two stints put in ...no heart attack. I was prescribed statins and blood thinner. I researched statins and decided they weren't for me . It's been 11 years and I'm having no problem
I was prescribed Simvastatin because I developed type 1 diabetes. The symptoms I had were severe fatigue, complete loss of motivation and ambition, and not surprisingly, depression. I had trouble doing simple tasks like getting the mail, paying bills, keeping the house. This went on for two years and three months. It only stopped because I ran out of the medication. Within 48 hours I suddenly felt almost completely better. It took about a year to get back to relative normalcy. Not fun.
Same thing with me and I quit with out drs approval because I knew it was making me sick. I have sisters and it’s something that they experienced. I don’t want it anymore! We are a family of statins causing severe side effects.
You can't "develop type 1" you're born with it. Diabetes doesn't disappear in 48 hours, and type 1 is something that not only are you born with, it's for life. You "ran out of medication", okay... did you have a 2 year 3 month supply and run out? Normally if you have medication you get resupplied and represcribed a medicine by a doctor with yearly physicals and adjustments of medication etc etc. None of this sounds like an actual person with an actual doctor. supervising. And I should say it again, you don't "develop type 1" diabetes, you can develop type 2, a completely different type with different origin and life long effects. You would have known as a child you had type 1. I'm assuming because you were getting mail, keeping the house and paying bills you were not a child when you "developed type1" is this a Russian troll?
I believe statins destroyed my athleticism faster than age could. I used to run 5 miles almost every morning. As soon as I started using statins, the muscle pain diminished my ability to run and stay in overall shape. The road to recovery has been long and hard. I had to change other lifestyle behavior like eating better foods instead of statins. I'll never again use statins.
I talk to my doctors about my challenges with the side effects of atorvastatin but they don't take it and can't comprehend how badly it's effecting me.
So good to see this educational video. I am a great believer in eating well, no junk food, no margarine, no gluten. I don't have sugar or milk in the house. I take no medication at all. Plus I am a pensioner.

I was statins as a preventative measure because of family history. My cholesterol levels were fine at the time. My very thick hair started falling out and I developed stones in my liver (gall bladder had been removed) requiring surgery. Now I know why I felt better when I stopped taking the statins. My hair still has not grown back. I will not be taking them ever again.

I had been complaining to my doctor for a couple years about fatigue, muscle aches and at times in the middle of the night it was like I would forget to breathe, really scary. Happened to be watching one of those commercials for some wonder drug and realized I was experiencing several side effects that I had been complaining about, if you experience any of these side effects see your doctor immediately. So I looked up the drug and simvistatin was the generic version, took myself off immediately and and had a short meeting with my former doctor.
The biggest crime is the dishonest way the pharma companies have done trials with these drugs. They insisted on several weeks "acclimatisation" before starting trials. This weeded out patients prone to muscle pain. They went on to present tiny percentages of muscle pain in their trial results without disclosing their dishonest methods to the doctors prescribing their products. I have tried 3 statin types (including atorvastatin and simvastatin) and they all gave me severe muscle pain, some of which remains after only a few weeks of treatment which took place several years ago. Two doctors at our local health centre tried to bully me back into taking statins and quite lively discussions entailed. An individual less self confident than I could easily have been pushed into continuing damaging treatment.
I was on Simvastatin for one year. I had only diarrhea for a year, every day, all day. I developed extreme pain all over. I walked bent over and using a cane. I was mid-forties. I went off it and refused any other treatment for cholesterol. I was supposedly only borderline, so I shouldn't have been on drugs anyway. Around the same time I got weird symptoms with blood pressure meds. This time I carefully weaned myself off with doctor supervision. Got my DNA tested and analyzed and went on a severe diet change to control blood pressure that way. Ten years later still off those horrible drugs.
I have been prescribe avorastatin. Within a month I could hardly walk pain in my neck, couldn’t sleep, but worst of all was brain fog and upset tummy with increased wind
My father started to develop a shaky movement of hands , head and speech soon after being put on rosuvastatin . Doctors thought he may have parkinson's disease and carried out testing with no results.. Stopped taking statins and started getting better immediately ...after 6 months he is back to normal.. Unnecessary prescription of statins is a shameful medical intervention.
I have been taking a 20mg statin since 2008 and I am 74 now. I do an horur heavy weights strength training routine 3-4 times a week and have never experienced any major side effects from statins such as muscle pain, tiredness, or lethargy.
Sorry John, but people don't want to hear a different opinion to a video they watched to prove them right. But you got over 50 thumbs up and mine. I'm worried about taking statin, but I worry more about the people who would insult you for your opinion.
My 48YO nephew developed symptoms which were consistent with ALS. He couldn't sit up in bed on his own. They figured out that it was the statins, so stopped and he is approaching normal 6 months later, but was told he would never be 100%
Thank you for this video. The list of side effects is almost verbatim to everything I experienced when taking atorvastatin that my doctor's wanted me to continue; memory loss, joint and muscle pain, hair loss and liver issues. I finally said no more statins and am slowly recovering.
Would u mind telling me what your liver issue was? I now have mild pain & tenderness constantly immediately under my right rib cage & I too am concerned about Statins.

I was in the hospital just over two months with rabdomyolitis from the statin drugs I took for cholesterol. I was very I’ll and wasn’t sure I would survive. But I did and am slowly getting stronger! A very frightening illness.
Statin discovery gave J.Goldstein a Nobel prize awarded to prevent heart strokes.:What Malvalio said in Shakespeares Twefth night" applies to Nobel laureates: some are born htrat.some achieve, some have greatness thrust upom them"
I had Rhabdomyolisis, Presyncope, and IBS with statins. My doctor kept prescribing them but in lower doses convinced that a moderately elevated cholesterol was worse than the side effects such as sever muscle cramps and light headedness which almost caused traffic accidents on several occasions. After moving out of the area, my new doctor had me tested for signs of Rhabdomyolsis. The tests confirmed my suspicion and my new doctor took me of statins immediately. My muscles have recovered somewhat but not completely and the Presyncope cleared up almost immediately after I stopped taking statins. IBS is still with me. My doctor also said that having slightly or moderately elevated cholesterol was not a major issue and the condition had been blown far out of proportion by doctors and researchers working for the drug manufacturers.
I have also experienced rhabdomyolysis, although the cause was NOT statins. I had a kidney stone a while back, and before that, a testicular torsion, but rhabdomyolysis was far worse than either of those, and is the worst thing that I have ever been through. I am writing this because rhabdomyolysis is very uncommon, so most people have no idea of how terrible this condition is, so here is a guy to commiserate. The immediate symptoms were mental confusion, minor hallucinations, and drhydration, yet without experiencing thirst. However, the recovery was worse. Once the cause was eliminated, my muscles began to regenerate; this process would manifest as around 30 minutes of excruciating pain in one of my large muscle groups, such as my right thigh (for example.) About 30 minutes after the pain stopped, the same process would begin in some other muscle group. This process just kept going, rotating through all of the large muscle groups; all four quadrants of my back muscles, thighs, calves, etc, and this continued for a full SIX WEEKS. Additionally, for the first week I experienced diarrhea *once every hour*, regardless of if I had eaten or not. This resulted in severe dehydration, and I had to force myself to drink a tremendous amount of water. I can only hope that your symptoms were less severe.
@@barrybrevik9178 Thank you for your comments. I have suffered many of the same symptoms you did though without the diarrhea. My digestive system went the other way with severe constipation. I almost got into two car accidents when I turned in front of oncoming traffic at a traffic light. There was no arrow just a green light. On both occasions, I had to pull over to recover my senses. I agree the muscles were the worst. Severe cramps would strike in large muscle groups seemingly at random and nothing but time seemed to quell them. For me, it lasted about six months. I'm truly sorry you had to go through that.
I had a heart attack last year and was put on statins and blood thinners. First and foremost the blood thinners was brillinta and it made me have shortness of breath and apnea at night. I woke up not being able to catch my breath. I experimented with not taking it in the morning and felt better so I stopped it altogether. Only took statins at half dose. For three months then quarter dose for three. Neither of these drugs have any benefits that outweighed by the side effects. Big pharma isn't trying to cure anything, they only want you to be a patient for life.

I've read through each of these comments, and I can not tell you just how many of these side effects I resemble. Why in the world are these Statins drugs on the market!?! BEEN on Atorvastatin for about three years - Simvastatin for 4 years before that. Associated problems -Bone, joint, muscle pains, balance, migraines, stomach issues, itchy skin and years of chronic heart palpitations. About 8 months ago a stomach CT noted an inlarged liver, however liver labs were fine. My primary Doc told me not to worry, however I requested to see a Gastroenterologist and requested direct liver testing. Liver CT showed a small amount of scarring and more detailed labs found smooth muscle antibodies (SMA) - Which possible means hepatitis)...
When a relative was diagnosed with high blood cholesterol the Dr. suggested a statin pharmaceutical. Another family member sent a book by Duane Graveline , an MD & former astronaut. He had experienced memory issues and looked deeper into statin effect & effectiveness. Eventually he determined statins are mistreating a symptom of acidic blood condition Your body is producing cholesterol in your arteries to protect them from the acidic condition .you need to treat acid blood PH. Acidic blood may result from lack of calcium and B vitamin.
I was on statins for 3 years and was fine, but then my memory started fading. I consulted my cardiologist and he said common side effect of statins. Anyway, about a month or two after stopping it came back fine.
Cholesterol is the substance that the body uses to repair the bodys cells. That is why premature aging is seen in many cholesterol lowering drug users and muscle breakdown because you are inhibiting the substance that is needed to repair them. These are only a few of the problems with cholesterol lowering drugs.
My mother had a heart attack in 2019, following which she received two stents and she was discharged on aspirin and atorvastatin. I stopped my mother from Atorvastatin abruptly, after reading and listening to these potential side effects from online and word of mouth from a person whose Dad had a similar condition. Long story short, after doing so my Mother’s disease progressed and she developed left ventricular failure due blockages and just last month, she suffered a cardiac arrest and is in ICU ever since. For anybody who reads my comment, please do not stop medication abruptly and consult your cardiologist prior to changing any medication.
did your mother got blockages in vessels that were not stented? because with me happened the same blockages progressed rapidly but only stented arteries, i think there is rapid progression of disease in stented arteries if you stop statin.
I gained 21 lbs. in less than 3 months of being on rosuvastatin. It was the only thing different in my daily routine and I stopped gaining shortly after I discontinued use.
Jane Doe rosuvastatin is also called Crestor. It will not work with warfarin, or warfarin will not work with crestor. They can adjust the amount of warfarin for the anti coag dose, but it can take months. Better to not even get this crap if you are on warfarin for a heart condition.
well my 2 bottle of this rosuv are unopened i received this week so much for that idea my drs idea not mine screw that I told her i was getting intense migraines on the sustatin and then got this rosuv but nope these comments are too many like the jab takers i am not a test mouse
This is why I refuse just about every medicine prescribed to me. I’ll exhaustively research each one, and come to my own conclusions. So often drugs seem to be prescribed without any due diligence performed by the physicians, I.e., “Type II Diabetes? Metformin”. High cholesterol? Atorvastatin”. Just because they’re available. My mother died at age 41 because of irresponsible medicine prescription, and I will never stop being vigilant. Advocate for yourselves, people. Knowledge is power.
Thanks - keep spreading the word. I almost ended up in a wheel chair when my son on the autism spectrum needs me. Stopped atorvastatin. Walking again & getting stronger & stronger!
After 3 stents, the Atorvastin caused my liver to crash in less than 7 weeks. Fever, shortness of breath, headache, jaundice, nausea and extreme tiredness were the symptoms. Nine days in the hospital. Also low hemoglobin occurred. Stopping of the statins was prescribed. Four months later all is normal.
I had two stents put in about a month ago and was prescribed Atorvastin every night. The cardiologist told me I would have to take it the rest of my life. But, I’ve heard too much negativity about statins and at times experience some of the milder symptoms such as shortness of breath and brief lightheadedness. My goal is to get my weight down and clear up my arteries and get off the statins. How are you doing a year later?
I am 77 and a vegetarian. I was put back on 75 mg statins following a break of about 5 years, after a stroke, although I am also on Plavix. About 3 months ago I developed shin splints, which is ridiculous as I do not run. The pain was excruciating. I stopped the statins about one month ago after reading about muscle and tendon issues and there has been gradual improvement, not yet completely healed, but much less painful.
@@anneabbott9212 I have no more pain now and I believe the lack of cholesterol was causing rigidity in my cellular structure. and consequently my lower leg tendons,
My dad, who is 74, also given Statin 40 mg. Once he stopped taking it, 90% of his pain went away. I am on 5mg regiment, and my tendinitis paints have quadrupled. It's really impacting my day to day activities.
@@jamesmilton8765 I talked to my cardiologist, and he said I can stop taking it for 6 months see what happens. I'm making an appointment with an orthoptic about my pains. I'm half your age, and my cholesterol level was only at the border line (now way, way down after taking only 5mg dosage).
I’m healthy & late 50’s My GP said I have high cholesterol , He insisted me to take 20 mg of simvastatin daily. The Script is still at GP clinic. I knew that if I started this tablet next he would prescribe me Metformin which for high blood sugar and then something for high blood pressure. Your health is your responsibility.
Within a week of taking Crestor I was awakened by the feeling of bees stinging my toes. This progressed to "blue toes" which progressed to a condition indistinguishable from moderate frostbite. The pain was quite severe and put me on crutches for three months. No other changes occurred other than initiation of the statin.
on atorvastatin, I get frequent and severe nasal allergies with mostly runny nose. It took me a while to identify the culprit. Normally I get allergies in the Spring and the fall. Atorva gives me those every month.
I was prescribed simvastatin by my doctor and after a couple of weeks I started getting severe muscle pain. And severe cramps all over my body. They got so bad that I couldn’t sleep at night because I was getting the cramps on different parts of my body all at once. I complained to my doctor and he said that the medication was not causing it. So I dropped him as my GP and went to another doctor. I also complained to him about the horrible side effects and he did listen to me and ran some tests. When he got the results he told me to immediately stop taking the simvastatin. To this day I have permanent muscle damage and cramps due to that awful medication. So people, make your doctor listen to you. If he doesn’t,get rid of him. Because you know your body better than anyone else.
I’ve been complaining to my GP for over 10 years as muscle spasms are getting progressively worse. Full on, rippling muscles, contractions that can’t be unbent. Etc. myoglobin level is super high. I was prescribed statins back in 2011, Simvastatin if I remember correctly. Within a couple of months, I started having both leg and back pain. I didn't make the connection between the statins and pain until I listened to The People's Pharmacy program on American PBS radio. On the day I listened, a guest Doctor was talking about the side effects of synthetic statins, such as leg and back pain. He recommended using natural Red Yeast Rice instead. Red Yeast Rice was where the original statin compounds came from and then synthetic versions were synthesized to replace them. I bought a reputable Red Yeast Rice brand and started taking it instead of the Simvastatin Within two weeks, my leg and back pain vanished plus my cholesterol was still where my Doctor wanted it. I confessed to him that I was no longer taking the Simvastatin. He wanted to try other statins and see if they caused leg and back pain. I tried at least 5 different statins (I can't remember which ones) but all of them had the same painful side effects. Needless to say, I still take Red Yeast Rice to this day. I'll never take a synthetic statin again.
I would love to know what kind of red rice yeast you're using because I too seem to have the paradox of the cure being worse than the disease. for the last 3 years I've had several doctors trying to figure out basically why I'm fatigued shortness of breath and this that and the other thing not to mention some of the same blood composition issues. please if you could send the information via my email and the name of your doctor or anything else you think might be helpful because I'm only 63 but I don't think I've ever felt worse in my life and I do exercise I keep very busy even though I'm retired on a fixed income which makes every sense spent on something useless like statins all the worst. any ideas or recommendations or ideas would be greatly appreciated thank you!
Healthy Origins HPF Cholestene Red Yeast Rice (120 Capsules) is what I use. I take the amount recommended on the bottle and it works for me. I didn’t have high cholesterol but my GP prescribed it for me. I took one pill and felt horribly unwell. I got up through the night to visit the bathroom and passed out. The following day I consulted my pharmacist who advised me to stop taking immediately. At my next follow up with my GP he was furious with me. He said that my blackout has nothing to do with the statins. I’d never passed out before taking it and since stopping haven’t passed out.
Fatigue is common, something I've fought for years and still fighting off and something has been affecting my bowels for the past few months that apart from having a polyp diagnosed a few years ago, I haven't been able to put my finger on..thank you for sharing this video. It is extremely useful to me...
I was diagnosed with dietary controlled diabetes… I managed to avoid medication with cutting out sugar and protein and fat diet. Doctor said fatty liver was gone, keep exercising and diet. Out of the blue the health team put me on Statin to avoid stroke. I’ve been fighting fatigue and memory problems ever since. I’m going to stop taking them to see what happens. Hope I don’t have a stroke.
Another two are weight gain and peripheral neuropathy. I took Atovarstatin for eight years and then abruptly stopped when I realized it was killing me. My cardiologist wanted me to get back on them, but I refused. It has taken two years for my peripheral neuropathy to abate, and I am down 40 lbs from my high of 240 bls.
Yes. I gained a lot of weight on Atorvastatin also. I also experienced this weird crusty skin in my ears. I'm off it for about a week now and watching to see if the crustinesss goes away along with the weight. I may take it intermittently, definitely not everyday again. It did wonders for my numbers though, even lowered my HDL too much.
@@prettyyoungthingpyt5015 The numbers mean nothing. Higher cholesterol levels means lower strokes and heart attacks and longer life. You need cholesterol. F..K the numbers.
Same for me, peripheral neuropathy on Simvastatin. I have it listed as an "allergy" so no doctors even bring up me taking statins and they are always really surprised when I tell them my side effects. I'm never touching those things again!
2005 (age 53) my Dr told me I can't continue training for Triathlons forever & people were looking for ways to get on Statins. Within the 1st month I got Diabetes but unchecked for 1 year. That next physical, I was off the charts diabetic & Dr almost put me on Insulin injections. Now he prescribed Diabetes Rxs to manage a problem I did not have before Statins. Muscle & tendon pains were terrible and tenden repairs took 18 months of "babying" it though normal repairs should take less than 8 weeks. I had to stop racing in Triathlons let alone training. Took for 6 years when Dr Oz on TV discussed Statins and stated ". . . Oh and 20% get Type 2 Diabeties". My mouth dropped and I stopped Statins that day. My Dr never told me this. Since that day, discovered documentary "The Oiling of America" (RUclips) then KETO with Int Fasting. I am improving now. @@jkardez4794 Statins can cause pancreatic damage. Better to not start statins in the first place. Doctors fixate on the wrong marker: Total cholesterol. Very interesting and useful information.. I'm 82 years old and fortunately don't have any of these symptoms which is very reassuring, these videos are a great source of information. I exercise regularly which is probably a big factor.. still have most of my hair too.. thanks for the video..
Statins have always caused my muscle and liver enzymes to elevate. Crestor seems to to do this to a lesser degree, so after a diagnosis of a massively clogged heart, and one stent, I chose to go back on it
A couple of years ago, my doctor put me on a statin. Within days I was suffering from severe pain and weakness in my arms and hands. Not to worry insisted my doctor - give things a month or so to settle down. Over the next week, the pain became so bad I went back to find him on holiday and a female locum in place. When I described my symptoms, she asked why on earth I hadn't stopped taking them immediately (apparently the recommended practice with statins.) When I related my doctor's response, she exploded with "he said WHAT???" and told me to stop taking them immediately and prescribed a non-statin alternative. When my own doctor returned, he was blunt about "interfering women" and handed me a prescription for a different statin. I told him I had no intention of taking it, and if he didn't continue the prescription the locum had given (which had given me no problems at all) I'd simply find another doctor. Which happened anyway as he (and both the other doctors in that practice) conveniently disappeared into early retirement as soon as the covid pandemic became serious.
@@9372463 Ezetemibe. Frankly I'm no longer taking those either, even though they're prescribed. I'm waiting to see my GP (increasingly difficult tbese days) to ask for another alternative. I seemed to get along with them for quite a while but recently I've started to exhibit almost every side effect listed. Increasingly, I'm becoming cynical that any of the anti-cholesterol drugs are worth the trouble they cause. If I'd believed my doctor, I'd have popped my clogs over 12 years ago. I'm pretty much falling to bits these days, but I'm still going.
I never thought about it but I have been on two medications and after reading this I think I'm just going to stop. I have so many of these symtoms. Thank you.

My doctor wanted to put me on statins. I am a polio survivor and I already knew about the problem with muscle weakness. I read two books about statins which were written by doctors. One was called The Great Cholesterol Myth and the other one was The Cholesterol Con! They showed the flaws in the cholesterol studies. They said that statins were OK for a man who had already had a heart attack and then only because the statins have some anti inflamatory effects. They said women should not take them at all and that statins would not help you to live longer. This video did not mention that your brain requires a lot of cholesterol in order to function properly. Statins also deplete your Co Q10 so you should take a supplement for that. The pharmaceutical companies are making millions off of statins and they keep trying to push it on more and more people. It is a fact that 25% of people who get heart attacks have a low cholesterol. Of course I told my doctor I would not take them and she really tried hard to push them on me. Some doctors take kick backs from the drug companies.
Notice that with the statins push and use over several decades the population isn’t getting any results that heart disease is in decline due to heavier statins prescribed?
Pravastatin Right hand hurt so bad I couldn’t cut my Canadian Bacon. Cooldn’t get to sleep. Was ordering some equipment, was asked an unrelated question and forgot I was ordering equipment. While briefing my boss at our weekly meeting I couldn’t remember some key details that I brief every week. I was mostly able to cover by using synonyms but couldn’t remember why there were 103 Units on station and not 104. There were 103 because I returned one to the manufacturer to fix defects. Got to the point I couldn’t write a complete sentence during meetings because my thumb hurt so bad I couldn’t hold my pen. Avastatin - took 1 week. couldn’t sleep, general aches and pains, forgot names of a niece and nephew during nightly prayers. Stopped immediately. Took a month to get my memory back.
Half of all people who have strokes and heart attacks have perfectly normal cholesterol levels. I tried statins at the insistence of my doctor and my leg pain was debilitating within a few months. 3 days after I stopped them on my own, I felt so much better. Never again. I have a friend who was on them for years and finally stopped on her own. She said her headstone is going to read "death by statin drugs".
I was asked (in truth, the doctor who is treating me of diabetes - but thank FatherGod, the status is improving) insisted on prescribing me atorvastatin. I refused to take and have told him that atorvastatin spike my blood sugar. He was always highly strung with this!! Last week, i got very upset with his rudeness, i just walked out of the consultation room. He is a GP with the government polyclinic.
I took my self off statins. I gained so much weight almost overnight. ( not to mention short of breath and dizzying). Drs said that could not cause it. I lived at the gym and lived on salads. My yoga teacher commented on my big belly, but not fat elsewhere. I stopped them and lost 16 pounds with no effort. Dr insisted I need them to live. Within weeks, the weight was back. I now feel so much better not taking the.
Thank you Karen. I live in Singapore. Yes. I have been thinking of switching to a GP. I am on this government linked diabetic treatment programme (???) sponsored by Abbot, and my last treatment in this June/July. The most frustrating thing is that i did a panel test (kidney, liver, cholesterol, etc) last Oct and all my results were optimal. Even my younger brother commented that these were better than his. So why am i asked to take 10 mg avorstatin. When i showed the result to this doc, he brushed it aside, saying something like "private test centre do not conform to their methods". In any case i refuse to take avorstatin. He kind of threaten (when i saw him 2 weeks ago) that i will know when i do my next panel test in June with this government link clinic. Sometimes i am just too overwhelmed. I eat healthily, cut down/out carbs, refined sugars, even a majority of fruits now, except avocadoes, some strawberries, guava. Fasting from lunches 2 days a week after praying to Almighty God for guidance.
So glad I found this.. I´ve been taking Atorvastatin for 2 years and have lots of headaches and muscle pain.. thing is I have Fibromyalgia and it´s hard to say what is what. I will talk to my doctor asap! Thanks
The best way is to remove one, and see if there is improvement. Test full thyroid panel too. (Not TSH only) Muscle aches and pains are a common symptoms, and so is elevated LDL. Treat thyroid right, and cholesterol normalizes.
I took pravastatin and developed gradually severe muscle weakness to the point that I used cane to walk. Finally I developed double vision with left optic nerve 3 paralysis. I stopped Pravachol then 1 month later I was able to walk 4 miles and diplopia resolved
I was on a statin a long time ago and did not realize how bad the side effects were until I stopped taking the pills temporarily when my medical plan changed. The difference OVERNIGHT in how I felt mentally and physically was unbelievable. I considered myself allergic to statins. Years later a cardiologist convinced me to give them another try. Big mistake. Within 3 days of use, I again felt like crap and found a side effect that most doctors tell me doesn't exist. It aggravated my tinnitus greatly, and seemingly permanently. I have been off the statins long time, but my brain is still convinced that I am in a forest meadow in the evening. The chorus of chirps, buzzes, clicks and other cricket/frog sounds is loud and never ending.
Stop any B12 supplements for 4 full months. Test B12, homocysteine, MMA urine, serum folate, and full iron panel (not just ferritin). Maybe statin dropped B12 level. Tinnitus is often a symptom. Test full thyroid panel, and Fasting insulin Fasting glucose C-peptide HOMA-IR Vitamin D test 25(OH)D iPTH Serum calcium (Do not take calcium in supplement form as it can worsen risk of heart attack, stroke and Tinnitus. If these are elevated, or abnormal tinnitus is also a symptom.

My doctor doubled my statin dose. I already have osteoarthritis but my joints swelled to almost double the size. I could barely shuffle around. I wrote an email to my doctor saying that I could not tolerate the higher dose and cut back immediately. A few weeks have passed and I'm just getting back to normal. For older people with preexisting conditions taking statins is a risky business.
I have had both Simvastatin and Prevastatin and they caused me a great many problems. I told my doctor I wanted to stop them. He wasn't very happy about it, however, he reluctantly agreed. I have liver disease and widespread arthritis and I believe that statins would not help. The problem now is every doctor or specialist I see tries to get me to start taking them again.
I’ve had Hepatitis A back in the 70s and have been vaccinated against Hepatitis B-C I would concur on muscle aches and occasional constipation and I’m only using Atorvastatin 10mg thanks for excellent video first time watching
I'm 87 and have about 340 cholesterol. When I took Crestor, I did well, but that got expensive. So I switched to atorvastatin and got really sick from the drug. Now, doctors still want me to take a statin, but I never will again. My mother had the same cholesterol problem and lived to 96 without statins. Maybe we should start suing doctors when they prescribe a cure worse than the disease.
In her 70's my mother had cholesterol that were consistently hovering in the 300s and her doctors kept prescribing /changing her statins due to side effects. She decided to stop them, ate a healthy diet, occasionally used drugs when her BP was elevated, never stopped physically traveling all over the world, loved to debate on any topic. In the last year of her life she visited the Philippines to celebrate her birthday and to play mahjong with lifelong friends with the same passion for the game. She aspirated on her cake around Thanksgiving developed pneumonia, long ICU care followed but she passed away after Christmas at the age of 96 years. BTW my father passed away at the age of 63 years who was a heavy smoker and drinker, the hazard of his profession as a Ship's Captain. I am a physician and disciplined never to argue with my parents. My advise is to choose your parents, those with good DNAs.
It is infuriating I agree. My cardiologist acted like I was crazy to be thinking the statin could be causing my brain fog, fatigue abs muscle weakness. If they feared a law suit maybe they would take us more seriously.
My son was prescribed statins for a slightly raised cholesterol level. After a week he had severe pains in his hands and feet. On speaking to the doctor he wanted to change the statins he was on My son flatly refused to continue taking them and is now months later still suffering from the after effects of taking them
I took a statin for 3 weeks for mild cholesterol level of 212... I started having bad muscle aches and pains. I connected the two as I started researching my statin side effect.. I called my doctor and he told me to stop taking them and focus on a low cholesterol food diet... I completely changed my food as I was still having pain. it took about a month or more to get this statin out of my system.. I also started walking about every morning.. I started feeling really good as I changed my lifestyle(cut out bad carbs, all added sugar, processed foods) I eat mainly a plant base diet with some fish and chicken.. I feel like a new person and have lost 10 pds. after doing this for 4 weeks... I don't want to go back to all the bad food, I feel too good to go back to bad food and also just gain weight back.... I go to my doctor in 2 months for a new test to see what my cholesterol level is.... it should be a lot better.
The less cholesterol you eat in your diet, the more your body makes. It obviously knows how much you need. Everyone is different so why should everyone’s cholesterol have to be the same? It’s another Big Pharma money spinner!
I started a year ago and have aches I never had before and some I had got worse. The doctor said it was because of some calcification. I’m a very active 70 year old and don’t need the aches I think it gave me so stopping them.
I started having severe pain in my feet and toe, like a needle has been inserted there. It was very unpleasant of course, but also scared me because I never had that pain before. But what terrified me was the weakness on my legs. Since I stopped taking Atorvastatin 3 weeks ago, both the "needle" pain and weakness are gone. It can't be a coincidence, can it?
After taking Lipitor (Atorvastatin) for 3 months back in 2006, I started waking up each morning with no arms. Not numbness or tingling but arms that weren't there. After about 10 minutes the feeling would gradually come back in my arms. I stopped taking the it but the strength in my hands has never been the same pre Lipitor.
My husband had terrible muscle cramping which started with atvorstatin. He had been on Simvastatin for a few years, but his doctor wanted his levels even lower. It has been nine years and he still has these symptoms. The doctor, a different one, isn’t interested in doing a muscle biopsy, and still gently encourages him to give them another try. What troubles me about Statins is there is no proof that high cholesterol is causative for heart disease. What if the high cholesterol is a way the body responds to another stress? And the brain is largely comprised of cholesterol. Both of my parents had poor tolerance of this class of drug class. I know I am being silly but I agreed to try Crestor for 2 months, if I don’t have side effects .
In metaphysics there is an energy body which is a replica of the physical. When somebody passes before their time this is sometimes seen as a ghost as it will go on the daily round until depleted. From your description it sounds very much as though the statins were interfering with the connection between the two bodies resulting in the effects to your arms. Your comment was some time ago and I hope you have continued to recover. Wishing you well.
With regards to statins causing muscle weakness or breaking down muscles, think about it - our heart is a muscle! The risk of damaging my heart is one of many reasons I refused to take statins when my (now ex-) doctor told me more than 20 years ago that my cholesterol level was so high I would drop down dead from a heart attack if I did NOT take statins. My cholesterol is probably still high, just as my mother's was all her life (she lived to age 96 without heart problems), and I am in good health at age 70. I take no prescription drugs. My ex-doctor, who takes lots of them, is younger than me but has a number of health issues now including heart problems. I have read that properly prescribed drugs are the third most common cause of death.
You should mention the depletion of CoQ10 with statin use and the need to supplement. Back in the day the pharmaceutical industry was going to combine it in with the statin because of the clear evidence but got swept under the rug and also forgotten by most physicians. I also stopped this with Parkinson's disease since it is a possible cause. (retired MD).
Yes, that's very true and very important. I take coenzyme q10, 120mg, every day. I am 59. I gave up statins a few years ago after developing health problems including cardiomyopathy. I am now in much better shape and practice martial arts every day.
@@mikefox1711 As far as I know you should take Coenzyme Q10 with statins. Because when you take statins it depletes the body of this valuable nutrient. I'm no expert but from from the many articles I have read I believe this to be true. I take Q10 every day but no longer take statins. I believe it's taken routinely in Japan.
I had severe muscle cramping. So severe that I thought it would tear my ligaments. I also had suicidal thoughts. I was constantly bombarded with thoughts about killing myself. I discussed it with the doctor and now control my cholesterol with my diet.
also I have that side effect of an elevated blood sugar reading, coupled with being on a Keto diet, I've lost a lot of weight, however, the last A1C was 7.1, the doctor and I realized since I have no symptoms of diabetes, type 2 variety, it must be the Symvastatin I take. Though I am grateful that the statin has helped reduce the cholesterol but more importantly has minismized any heart issues, by BP is now about 127/75 or so. I reversed my type 2 diabetes in 2015, and the statin helped minimize any heart abnormalities due to elevated cholesterol. Good Video and thanks

@@barbaralong8665 yes i hear so. The brain needs cholestarol, and makes its own. Statin reduces brain cholestarol... causing dementia and altzheimers. Not sure though
Another problem with statins, which is not so often mentioned, is what is sometimes said about beta-blockers. The patient lose his lust for life, nothing is fun anymore, no need to create new projects.
I WAS GIVEN A BETA-BLOCKER BY A SPECIALIST IN 1980 AND DESPITE ME TELLING MY DR. IT WAS NOT SUITING ME, HE SAID I MUST STAY ON IT. I PERSEVERED, BUT WAS NOTICING MY WEAK PAINFUL LEGS, AND AFTER 6 YEARS, I WAS JUST COLLAPSING. I COLLAPSED IN THE DRS. SURGERY AND THE LOCUM SAID 'STOP IT IMMEDIATELY' WHICH I DID, BUT THE DAMAGE WAS DONE. HE SAID HE HAS SEEN THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. SO BEEN DISABLED IN WHEELCHAIR EVER SINCE, AFTER BEING CONFINED TO BED FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS OR MORE.

My doctor did not tell me about the potential side effects. They ruined my lower legs below the knee. 20 years later they have not returned to normal and I can hardly walk.
@@gailcrowe727 High BP, very high it could be an issue with my kidneys. Also edema of my lower legs. I'm a diabetic and it could also be from some of my meds. Judging by my issues it could also include chronic venus insufficiency.
I have been prescribed Atorvastatin. Recently I have been feeling side effects corresponding with 7 listed on the pamphlet contained within the box. These effects include fatigue, pins and needles in my feet, swollen feet, muscle pain, increase in blood sugar etc. As a result I have stopped taking the tablets and will discuss this with my medical practitioner at my annual review this month. I won’t be going back on statins.
I had to go off my statin due to severe joint pain, pain to the point where I thought about it when ever I moved. My cardiac doctor acted as if it was a trade off. I could be miserable or risk not reducing my cholesterol which was barely over normal. I opted to enjoy life instead of the misery of immobilization which I did to reduce the pain of moving around. Doctors don’t think of the side effects , only pushing meds for the pill companies.
I had severe joint pain as well. screaming every time I moved and the 11 days later it was totally gone. The process would start over again in another 15 days. I was on statins for 2 years before the pain started.
Look for information about the former ABC ( Australian Broadcasting Commission ) medical investigational journalist Dr. Maryanne Demasi , who attempted from 2013 to initiate debate about the use of statins. She ended up being silenced by by her employer with a gag order, and her TV program "Catalyst" was cancelled, with all members from the executive producer down all sacked. Her very logical and extensive investigation showed that it was impossible to gain access to any of the statin research. She was continually told that the research shows that statins were safe and that you will just have to trust us on that. The only problem is that the authorities holding the statin research were financed by the pharmaceutical industries! No different to a drug carte saying that fentanyl is completely safe to use.

These medications cause hearing loss and tinnitus.
The medical industry is criminal. Totally controlled by big pharma.
Atorvastatin gave me brain fog, muscle weakness, and joint pain. I have none of these side effects with Rosuvastatin.
I’m glad you gave up that Statin drug, that drug is slowly killing our elderly generation, and that makes me happy to know your off it!!
Good for you, my dear. You fought a brave fight and won!
Agree, I have same of similar experience.
People over 75 shouldn’t be on statins in the first place.

What were your 2 heart attacks like and how did you survive.
Was threatened with heart attack, stroke, if I did not take the statin. Twenty five years later, I’m still going strong. There’s such a thing as quality of life over quantity of life.

True quality of life is more important than quantity of life. Started taking Rosuvastatin ( 5 mg 3x a week) about a year ago. I am now a type II diabetic, I have memory loss, confusion, dizziness and lightheadedness. This information confirmed what I thought. I took my last dose yesterday. No more!
Unlikely. Fat soluble statins can cause memory issues. But not water soluble ones. Rosuvastatin is water soluble.
I also read that people who have leg pain that liver and kidney damage that goes along with it.!🤬
I’m sure if I ask my doctor what’s happening to this extra insulin in my body that’s not being utilized tthey’re going to tell me that it’s not harmful.

The problem is 80% of your cholesterol is made in your liver so it doesn't matter if alot of people change there diet.. These side effects are super rare this video is dangerous. If you research every study with large amounts of people the mortality rates of people on statins are dramatically lower than those on placebo.
Agreed, it’s amazing what diet and exercise can do for most people
The body produces 75% of its own cholesterol irrespective of what diet you eat and for those that have additional health risks such as type 2 diabetes ischaemic heart disease hypertension then that’s why they get prescribed so frequently.

Not fun.
Same happened to me but now I've got severe joint pain and pain in my lymph glands months after stopping the simvastatin. Did you find a way to detox?

Fatigue too. I thought I was depressed. I used to be so energetic. So it was Statins. Dammit this is a crime.

Within two weeks, my leg and back pain vanished plus my cholesterol was still where my Doctor wanted it. I confessed to him that I was no longer taking the Simvastatin. Better to not start statins in the first place.
Doctors fixate on the wrong marker: Total cholesterol.
The right diet and lifestyle lowers triglycerides and raises HDL, which is what you want.
LDL-C does not show particle count or size.
LDL that is too low worsens longevity.
Crestor seems to to do this to a lesser degree, so after a diagnosis of a massively clogged heart, and one stent, I chose to go back on it
I had depression with suicidal thoughts. My cardiologist said stop the Statins. Within 4 days of stopping I was singing and dancing.
Just reaffirms my belief of medicine… the money is in the treatment, not the cure!!
What was the non-statin alternative?

Increasingly, I'm becoming cynical that any of the anti-cholesterol drugs are worth the trouble they cause. If I'd believed my doctor, I'd have popped my clogs over 12 years ago. I'm pretty much falling to bits these days, but I'm still going.

I had a stroke in about 2018 and the hospital had me taking both Clopidogrel (to thin my blood platelets) and Atorvastatin to reduce cholesterol every day for the rest of my life - after seeing this and other videos, I’m thinking about stopping taking both Clopidogrel and Atorvastatin after my present prescription runs out!
Very helpful info, presented in a calm and factual way, which is especially appreciated.

I really believe everything you have said!!! Thank you very much, continue to take care of yourself🙋
Good summary Brenda. I know the books well. I hope you're keeping well.
Notice that with the statins push and use over several decades the population isn’t getting any results that heart disease is in decline due to heavier statins prescribed?

Half of all people who have strokes and heart attacks have perfectly normal cholesterol levels. I tried statins at the insistence of my doctor and my leg pain was debilitating within a few months. 3 days after I stopped them on my own, I felt so much better. Never again. I have a friend who was on them for years and finally stopped on her own. She said her headstone is going to read "death by statin drugs".
I was asked (in truth, the doctor who is treating me of diabetes - but thank FatherGod, the status is improving) insisted on prescribing me atorvastatin.
It is infuriating I agree. My cardiologist acted like I was crazy to be thinking the statin could be causing my brain fog, fatigue abs muscle weakness. If they feared a law suit maybe they would take us more seriously.

What about cholesterol oxidation which is supposed to be the worst of the worst?
In metaphysics there is an energy body which is a replica of the physical. When somebody passes before their time this is sometimes seen as a ghost as it will go on the daily round until depleted. From your description it sounds very much as though the statins were interfering with the connection between the two bodies resulting in the effects to your arms. Your comment was some time ago and I hope you have continued to recover. Wishing you well.
Thank you so much for this topic, I am taking Rosuvastatin for more than 2 months now. I decided to stop it
With regards to statins causing muscle weakness or breaking down muscles, think about it - our heart is a muscle!
You are absolutely correct - thanks for writing - Take CoQ10 every day and no statins - age 50+ slows CoQ10 as well
Yes, that's very true and very important. I take coenzyme q10, 120mg, every day. I am 59. I gave up statins a few years ago after developing health problems including cardiomyopathy. I am now in much better shape and practice martial arts every day.

I could be miserable or risk not reducing my cholesterol which was barely over normal. I opted to enjoy life instead of the misery of immobilization which I did to reduce the pain of moving around. Doctors don’t think of the side effects , only pushing meds for the pill companies.
