    My mom never took a statin because she said messing around with the liver wasn’t smart. That was 40 years before she passed away at the age of 95. Good advice. I took it. Don’t mess with the liver.

    Hi Dr Cywes on my lipid screen done earlier this month my vldl was 3.2 and hdl 1.2 total 4.6 stopped statins a year ago due to horrible muscle fatigue. I went low carb and my practice stopped the metformin ( the only diabetic drug I was on) and this morning my fasting Blood sugar was 90. I was told my sugars would go up but in fact it's going down. I walk between 2-3 miles a day and the weight loss is accelerating now lost 124lbs. 4 more pounds and my Bmi will be 29.5 and will be just overweight. I started with a bmi of 52.5 I have never felt so healthy in years thank you for your sage advice. Low carb is the way to go.

    My mother went low carb (at my insistence) for early onset cognitive decline, and got off her antidepressant, anti-anxiety, and statins. Her total cholesterol went up to 620 and the boston heart lab called her doctor and said it was an emergency. She had a cac scan (at my insistence, as well, since her trigs, weight, and insulin, among other inflammatory markers are beautiful), her cac score is 0. But they've scared the shit out of her and have her back on statins. her cholesterol is now 120ish, and i say nothing because it's a losing battle when i cannot find a doctor who doesn't just scare the shit out of her, and can work with her to figure out why she produces so much cholesterol (her supposedly functional-medicine trained dr did not agree that she may just be a LMHR--and is the one who put her back on a statin and zetia). So now I just watch her cognition continue to go downhill. But that total cholesterol is where they want it, and that's the priority.

    What do you think of Dr. Duane Graveline's book The Statin Damage Crisis? In that book he states that cholesterol cannot cross the blood brain barrier, so the brain's cholesterol is created by glia cells in the brain itself. Statins DO cross the blood brain barrier and thus prevent the glia cells from manufacturing cholesterol. No (or lower) cholesterol in the brain leads to memory problems, dementia, etc.

    Look for information about the former ABC ( Australian Broadcasting Commission ) medical investigational journalist Dr. Maryanne Demasi , who attempted from 2013 to initiate debate about the use of statins. She ended up being silenced by by her employer with a gag order, and her TV program "Catalyst" was cancelled, with all members from the executive producer down all sacked. Her very logical and extensive investigation showed that it was impossible to gain access to any of the statin research. She was continually told that the research shows that statins were safe and that you will just have to trust us on that. The only problem is that the authorities holding the statin research were financed by the pharmaceutical industries! No different to a drug carte saying that fentanyl is completely safe to use.

    • @gordonwells1626

      The ABC is the enemy of the Australian people. They were relentless pushing their fear campaign during Covid years, relentless pushing the virtues of the kool-aid, relentless attacking any alternate narrative. Effectively a propaganda portal used by the Australian Government, Big Pharma, Big Tech, Corporates to try and brainwash the very taxpayers that fund the ABC.

    Berberine, nature's ozempic, did it for me. Came off statins because of plantar fascitis (policeman's heal). Went on to niacin 500mg mostly for NAD boost with dried parsley (apigenin) and ALA and NAC. That got me well enough for resistance training, now building muscle back with amino acid supplements. Will stop muscle building soon and stop AA supplements and go for low carb diet. Feeling great at 64.

      @@pascostruhs6298 Yes, AND sufficient intake of protein - which at older ages means 1 gram+ of protein per pound of body weight. Younger individuals may get away with less, ~.7-.8g / lb, but over 50-60 it sure seems the lower limit needs to start at 1g/lb. (And of course animal-based proteins are superior by every metric)

    I had been on a statin for a few years due to high LDL and "familial hypercholesterolemia". I stopped taking the statin about 6 months ago. When cardiologist saw the increase in LDL, he scared me with the familial factor again and I started taking it again. I have been having muscle pain in my legs and decided to stop the statin, once again. The pain has disappeared. My LDL is high again. When my pcp started a conversation about it, I told her that my HDL and triglycerides are good and that carbohydrates are the root of any of my problems......no argument necessary! I haven't been back to the cardiologist, yet, but I am sure that will be a "fun" appointment. The best part is, I am no longer afraid of LDL. Just wary of clotting! got pushed to take statins (5mg crestor) at my appointment again yesterday. Dr said though my Triglycerides were good (0.7) he doesn't care about that, my LDL was still too high (down to 6.81 from 7.28), and my total cholesterol was way too high (9.45 down from 10.30) . I'm 51, post-menopausal, not overweight, but with other health (vestibular) issues, that the potential side effects with crestor are not something I want to deal with. However, with a 10-year wait list for a GP here, I worry my Dr will ditch me for not adhering to his "advice"

      I’ve had similar “discussions” with my cardiologist & I just told him AGAIN that I won’t ever take a statin. It’s so disrespectful. I think I’m going to find a new cardiologist.

    Hi there! I really enjoy the information you're sharing. My lipid panels are atrocious, but I'm very active and my weight isn't terrible. I began mostly carnivore 8 weeks ago and feel amazing. I've lost weight and I'm hoping to do blood work to verify but have read I should wait 6 months. My question; is tracking my daily blood sugar numbers a good way to measure my progress? Thanks again, Nancy

    I've read here in Finland, the Land of Käärijä (wrapper), that the coating of baby Aspirin doesn't help that much because of the mechanism of that effect causing the irritation or whatever; can't recall what it is. Something to do with a thing called cox-2, or stuff like that?? 🙃

      Dr Brewer suggested chewable baby aspirin for that or similar reason. He takes it and said he just swallows it whole, which is what I've adopted. The cherry or orange flavor is in your mouth for a second or so.

    I've been on Simvastatin for 4 years with NO side effects whatsoever. As the saying goes to all those who feel lousy on statins - "NO ONE CAP FITS ALL" and that is true for any drug for any desease. That is why a doctor who is not a narcissist and prostrating himself on RUclips will tell you to come back and possibly try something more suitable!

    I had my yearly blood tests done and everything was perfect except that my LDL was high, HDL and triglycerides were great. I went for a femoral and carotid ultrasound that showed that my arteries were completely clear and yet my doctor wants me to start a statin. I exercise a lot and am totally healthy otherwise so I can't understand the logic in this. I will not be starting a statin. I'm in South Africa, so it's not only the American doctors that do this.

    Question. I had a massive heart attack and cardiac arrest. LDL was 180, was put on 20 mg atorvastatin 3 mos ago, and lowered to 80 now. Should I stop statin? Is it irrelevant, and would I have had a heart attack anyway. They tried to get me to go on one years ago. I have CAD

    A GLP1 agonist is not what my cardiologist will prescribe. He fell back to Rosuvastatin. Maybe because a statin is cheap.
    I am insulin resistant, have been on a keto diet for a year, and didn't know about the "bad" parts of niacin, so I will stop taking that. I think a baby aspirin is a good idea too. I am going to another cardiologist this week for a second opinion. She is known as a "metabolic cardiologist", so maybe she will agree with your conclusions, and I will bring up the GLP1 agonist argument and even refer her to this video.
    But one question I hope you can give me a clue on...Is it possible to ever get out of being insulin resistant? I have made progress, but just can't seem to get my glucose into the 80's. It is consistently in the high 90's. I am beginning to lose hope!
    Thanks much.

    I was on 40 mg Lipitor was eating carbs and not worrying about diet to much it lowered my LDL when I switched to very low carb keto my LDL went high and Lipitor did nothing.
    My triglycerides and Hdl improved greatly on keto.
    Now I only take aspirin and 5 mg Crestor 3 days a week.

      I’m on low carb on about 75g and under seems to work best for me.

    I'm new to this channel and I find very interesting what you say regarding insulin resistance and baby aspirin. However, my question is : does this also apply to those with FH? Will a keto diet, ultra low carb and baby aspirin do the trick for them too?

  • @rogerlassing628
    @rogerlassing628 Год назад +2

    I believe that your GLP-1 prediction will be true but only because they nowadays tend to lose 15% body weight on the latest drugs erasing all liver fat. And potentially that they will treat remaining insulin resistance by giving an extra zip insulin. I also agree with you regarding the effects of statins on risk, but I note that statins, ezetimibe, PCSK-inhibitors all have shown benefits as hard outcomes, so somehow LDL should be involved in the clotting cascade. Because they have different mode of action. That's what I'm thinking about: Any thinking? I have myself noted that statins make me bleed more while also being on aspirin. And I absolutely cannot tolerate a statin so that triggered my curiosity about the subject.

    • @bobtosi9346
      @bobtosi9346 Год назад +1

      Cholesterol is not involved in causing clots. It only is the repair mechanism.

    I plan on sharing this link with my cardiologist in my protest of him keeping me on Lipator. I have serious side effects in muscle loss, nerve neuropathy that wakes me up while I try to sleep & serious inflammation in arthritis in my hands so that I can't close to a fist & grip things correctly. My concern is I have 5 stints from my past heart attack condition 2+ yrs ago...if I just stop the Statin against his recommendation (I'm sill taking the aspirin) will I get clots again? >.< I'm doing very well on a keto diet plan & loosing weight and becoming more active. His letter of my latest blood work results say my LDL has improved significantly, my A1C is in excellent range, and I can stop taking Zetia (known for muscle pain incident side effects). I asked him many times to get me off Statins as I had incident with it crippling me to the point of going to emergency because I couldn't raise my arms past my elbows... Thank you for this very educational video Dr Cywes!
