I see how Toni Braxton was greatly influenced by Anita Baker, the hair, so much voice control... not a single note out of tune. This is singing is priceless!
No...This was 1995, Toni was already out since 1992 from the Boomerang soundtrack. Toni's style was a bit different ,with a more sexier vibe and Toni's cut was more sleek and shorter. This was when Anita returned back to the music scene in 1994 with her Rhythm of love album.
Toni was influenced by baker, but she totally has her own style!!!💯

Anita was on top of the world here. In the mid 90s she had no competition- she was loved by the critics and the general public alike. Her voice was well developed and her sound was like no other. Legendary!

I first heard Ms. Baker when I was in high school (1985-1989) and fell in love with her voice, her style and her immense talent.
People thought I was nuts - a little white boy from the suburbs - but I identified with her. Still do.

I always forget about her when thinking of great vocalists. To me it's Anita Baker, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Patti Labelle, Dionne Warwick, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Those ladies are on another level and although she wasn't as popular, Taylor Dane is every bit the singer.

Damn!! Wow! I can recall when damn near all sister's dressed, made up, and kept their hair black and styled like this. Oh my GOD, when did you sisters lose this look and start wearing weave, green, purple, and blue hair. extra long eyelashes and crazy lighten color makeup. Clothes to tight, blouses that don't quite pull down, and jeans that don't quite cover the ass crack. What is happening to style and class. I still love you my sister's, and I'll date and marry only a black woman. But please, in 2017 take some notes from Mrs Baker, and come back to the days of style and class. We miss ya. wen she came to uk in the 80s i saw her and wen she came on stage i had a lump in my throte dont know why the sound was perfect she had the voice of an angel and at the end of the night the crowd would not let her go she must of done ten curtin calls

I was sitting at Catalina Jazz Club in LA w Art Blakey and some of his band during a set break. Catalina (club owner) brought Miss Anita Baker to the table who was very shy to meet the great Art Blakey. Anita was so stunning, so perfectly dressed & groomed & such a lady I was absolutely floored. Pure class from head to toe. She wore a black lace short sleeved shirtwaist belted dress & sheer black stockings and black simple plain matte black silk mid-heel plain pumps. Dang. She was so-o-o-o-o-o-o-o beautiful. She sang one song w the band later & it was so long ago I can't remember what song it was! A Goddess. Period.

+Rodney Davis, I agree, Janelle Monae to play Anita 4 real. Producers will have to figure out the vocals part because their sounds are completely different but Janelle I know can imitate Anita's dancing mannerisms without any trouble.
