The movie had so much potential by the start, disney never treated such heavy topics before as in this movie, like grief and immediate loss of a loved one. They couldve done so much with that theme... but then the protag turned into a bear and it just went downhill, but well, we all know what we're in for when watching a disney movie lol you cant expect them to pull something darker or complex even if the stories theyre telling could be perfectly told that way.

It used the Inuit language and some instruments, but everything else was made in European-American style. Personally, I would've liked if they had actual Inuit people working on the music, but unfortunately Disney was only willing to hire white guys to compose their music, as is the usual. I am just glad that newer films like Moana ans Raya and the Last Dragon are actually taking into account how the music of a culture sounds when composing film scores.

Whilst I agree with you that producers and compositors should to all possible extents, find people from the culture(s) they're portraying, this might not always be possible and then they have to resort to other means of making a product. With that being said, this song, sung in a NATIVE language is amazing and the women singing are equally amazing at what they do. Also, Phil Collins is imo one of the best producers for film music and he is often respectful when making the music

Whenever i hear this song i think of Kenai’s older brother. He was taken at a time where his brothers needed him and This was like his last way he was able to guide his baby brother to his destiny and full fill his totem🥺♥️💯
Sitka was the one who turned kenai into a bear so kenai would at least stop acting like a cold hearted freak and stop seeking revenge and redeem himself and seek his true happiness and purpose. Sitka is a good brother but was taken too early to teach his brother more. I was like 6 and had brother bear on repeat like 3 times a day haha

i am iñupiaq on my father's side, although i was raised in a primarily white culture. as an adult, i have been deliberately striving to connect with my inuit heritage. watching this video just now, listening to such beautiful music in my native language that i don't understand yet, i was suddenly struck with an overwhelming wave of emotions that immediately made me burst into tears. this song is so incredibly powerful for a multitude of reasons that i can't fully articulate at the moment; i can only feel. i love my indigenous culture.
