The map I used in this video is called cs_east_borough and is made by will2k. It is a very nice Counter Strike Global Offensive map that you can download at the following link. So there you have it. A full remake of the scene. I used models made by MaxofS2D, Rebbacus and TheDanishMaster. (Scout enhanced, femscout, tf citizens, and a lot of car models.) I made reskins for the scout myself, that is not a part of the scout enhanced model.
The map I used from the start to 0:23 is actually a modified version of the official CS:GO map, Vertigo. The difference is that pretty much the entire playable area is removed, and replaced with a big dock. The city is just a part of the skybox, but it fits the scene exactly. I used SFM to position all of the props, though. There is one interesting thing about this: When I had placed all of the boats, I realized that they had no reflections. Therefore I spent a while trying to get the water to reflect properly, by using different water types, and many other different attempts, without success. Then a brilliant idea appeared in my mind; place the same object directly beneath the other and turn it up side down. Yes, the "reflections" you are seeing are actually copies of the object above.
I made several custom particles, and modified versions of other particles from HL2 and TF2, to make the effects at 0:04, 0:12, 0:29 and 0:55. The one with the fire hydrant consists of more than 30 particles.
So after spending most of the time animating, I started to fill the scenes with people and cars. I really tried to make the city feel alive, and I encourage you to take a close look at it and see what the people are doing. For many of the pedestrians I imported a sequence, but some are completely animated from scratch. I used the HL2 people, tf citizens, some hostages from CS:GO, and all four characters from Left 4 Dead 2 as pedestrians, or drivers to achieve a variety of people. I also added hats and other stuff on some of them.
I'm very glad I found the car model pack made by TheDanishMaster at SFMBox, or else I wouldn't have animated as many cars as I did. These cars have movable wheels, unlike all of the other car models from the source games.

If there was, I'd especially like to see the Engineer as god, seeing as he's just as laid back as Morgan Freeman - hope God doesnt kill me for that.
+Templar44 miss Pauling would have to be the girlfriend character from the film... aka:would need a model with a slightly lesser or greater bust to accommodate one of the jokes in the movie... but yeah... this needs to be a thing... get a crew together too make a SFM version of this movie happen @ferhod

Of course I made the animations myself, everything except some of the walking pedestrians are animated from scratch.
I worked step-by-step to make the walking animations. Usually I animate the up-and-down movement first, then the legs, and then the arms. And last, I animate the rest of the bones, like the hips, the shoulders and the head. I find this order of steps to be quite nice to work with.

Hey! It's probably very unlikely you will see this, but I wanted to say that I watched this back then and it has always stayed in the back of my mind for some reason. Basically this has been one of my favorite sfm animations :)

No problem! I recommend you watch some tutorials that goes deeply into how to use the graph editor. Knowing what every button does is more useful than one might think.

How did you get the scout clothes on the store pose model guy?
I actually just put a scout model inside the mannequin and squeezed anything that wasn't a part of his clothes inside it. It took some effort to get everything right and correctly positioned, but since this solution only worked for specific angles, I had to rearrange the mess for every new camera angle.

Yes, the particle effects are heavily customized to fit the situation, but I started off with waterfall_rocksplash, and water_trail_directional_child from the tf2 folder, I think. I changed quite a lot of the parameters, like the emission rate and the arc, etc.
Where the water hits the ground I placed more particles, to create the effect of water splashing off. The whole group of particles has been duplicated several times, making it more dense.
