- In this video I have Bertram's Willys M38 L134 engine on the SIP Hydroptic 8 Jig Bore ready for precision boring. I tried to clean up at .020" oversize but the cylinders were worn and I had to go to a .030" oversize. After this L head boring I put a Willys F134 on the SIP and bored that to a .060 oversize. The previous bore on this engine was terrible and every cylinder was out of round, tapered, and not suitable for a long life engine. You can't hide from the precision of the SIP Boring machine!!!
I then setup to cut all the valve seats. Bertram's engine had the very latest valves that the M38 used. F head style valves, F head rotators, etc.... A new 3 angle valve job and vacuum tested to 20 inches.
The F head exhaust valves got the same 3 angle valve job and both engines are coming along nicely. Bertram's engine was honed to size, plateau honed, chamfered, and ball honed to get the perfect cross hatch for oil retention. Cleaning and assembly coming soon.
I love watching your work and realize that your are worth ever dollar charged. What is piece of mind worth?
The SIP suits your shop so well, its on par with the precision you are known for! I feel like I got M38 intake valves with rotators when I ordered a set of NOS F head exhaust valves, I didn't know that was a thing. Might use it in an L head instead. Thank you for another great video Brian take care!
Love the SIP it is a great addition to my shop . The M38 went thru a lot of changes and remember to always be aware of valve changes during this time period.
I love this channel.
thanks for watching, appreciate you
My M38 RMC mystery engine was assembled by the rebuilder with some MB and GPW parts. Valves had rotators.
The M38 can have a lot of different parts, especially when they are stamped RMC
Learning something every video! Thanks for keeping these alive.
appreciate you watching
Great job
always good to hear from you Lee
I enjoy all the content you put out, I’ve been able to do so much more work on my 49 wagon since I’ve been watching your videos
Thanks, glad to know you are learning and working on your wagon
I’m Looking for a rebuildable GPW block. When I find one it’s headed your way for a beautiful rebuild!
Great video On the cj5 engine how much can you take out of the cylinder walls?
I usually go .080" as the max. Over that I bore for sleeves, and sometimes break thru the cylinder wall when close to finish sleeve size
👍👍👍
appreciate you watching Gary.
Helloo, do you still grow hydroponic tomatoes?
The hydroponic bucket system still works great.
