I wonder which actors would do them justice. It would also be interesting to see if the perspective is different from Lorelei’s narrative. For a example, they show Emily trying to be a good mom, showing the reasons she holds on tight. Or showing that she did have a good relationship with Richard. Give both parents more development. Much like Young Sheldon that we see all sides of the family and how he as the narrator is not always the reliable storyteller.

when I first started watching this show, I admittedly totally sided with Lorelai but after watching this show a million times and getting older, I feel like a lot of the reason Emily acts the way she does is because she is so hurt and in so much pain after Lorelei left her the way that she did. yes, she totally does not handle it right and has some unhealthy coping mechanisms but everything she does to "trick" lorelai is really just to get her and Rory back in her life. completely changed the way I saw the show. neither of them know how to communicate and loreilai is not particularly an angel in this situation either. Paris was my other favorite character (other than Emily).
I agree completely. The older I get the more I can see Emily’s side of things. Emily just had a very different outlook on the world, a very old school way about her. When I was watching growing up I totally sided with Lorelai and felt bad for her, but eventually I started feeling for Emily too.
We have to understand that the reason lorelai ran away in the first place was because she never felt safe and at-home with her own mother. Emily "strangled" her, as she would put it. The parent is responsible for the child, and it is insensitive to put the blame on young 16 year old lorelai who just wanted a better life while trying to give rory the same. It annoys we how much me excuse emily's actions (or, just, sympathize with her) while pushing lorelai under the bus. emily chose to have her. if she didnt have the capabilities of being a mother she shouldnt have been one at all. Emily never gave her the emotional support and security that children so desperately need from their parents. Emily IS to blame, let's not twist it around. Though it isnt ALL her fault, she is the only one to blame, unfortunately. her circumstances ("old school style" etc) dont excuse the emotional trauma dhe continued to put lorelai through for the rest of her goddamn life
It is true that we can feel sorry for both Lorelai and Emily, some may feel more sorry for one or the other. But who you feel sorry for is mostly an expression of your own life, your own environment, and your own experience. Quite frankly once Lorelei grew up, was caring for a baby, gained real world experience, they were both culpable for the relationship. I see this in an entirely new way because of my relationship with my mother. I had two relationships. One before dementia and one after. Dementia didn't affect her memory, it affected her personality. Many don't understand that about dementia. That it can affect ones personality. The mom that I knew that wasn't hurtful to me left 6 years before she passed. I had to constantly remind myself of who she was before. It still brings me to tears. Even though she passed 4 years ago. Disease or environment will affect how we respond in relationships. How Emily grew up, how Emily's mother interacted with her, and each generation of mothers and daughters in their family. Emily wasn't perfect and neither was Lorelei.
Their relationship was always the one I was most interested in! One can almost feel the love but also the decades of pain and emotional hurt, while watching. Amazing Actresses!!!
As good as the relationship between Lorelai and Rory was, it was really the Lorelai/Emily stuff that was the heart and soul of the show for me. Kelly Bishop (and Ed Hermann, of course) did an OUTSTANDING job on this show. She and Lauren could play conflict so well. I was always hoping to see that same kind of energy between Lauren and Alexis, but that's because I was hopelessly spoiled by Mae Whitman on 'Parenthood', which I saw before GG. Mae is one of my favorite actresses, and her work with Lauren on Parenthood was beyond exemplary. Alexis was solid as Rory, but never quite reached that same level. I have to remind myself that Mae was a much more experienced actress when she started Parenthood, than Alexis was when she started GG.

Emily wasn't a bad person or a monster ... She was right sometimes but Lorelai acted that way because there were times she needed Emily as a mother but she wasn't There for her and maybe that didn't once but it kept happening over and over again and that led Lorelai to build up her wall and keep her away ... When Lorelai said "why don't you care , why haven't you ever cared" Says it all ... It really breaks my heart every time I hear it... Lorelai wasn't ungrateful EITHER she just didn't get the affection and love her whole life ... Even after everything it really amazes me how she handled every conversation with her mother ... And best part She made sure Rory dosent get the same life she had

Hasn't anyone figured out the Lorelei is a female with ADD? With parents who are rigidly focused on details, minutiae and protocols of life, there is no middle ground or meeting space. What always irritated me about the parents is how they were all self-righteous and sanctimonious about how Lorelai hurt them, but when she left at 16 with a baby and no money, they didn’t go after her. Emily got so upset when She saw the little shack that Lorelei and Rory lived in when Rory was a baby. Even if they really didn’t know where she was, A private investigator would’ve found her in an afternoon. They chose hunkering down and licking their wounds over the welfare Of their daughter and granddaughter. I think deep down that’s what hurts Lorelai the most.
the second last scene in this - it was sad that after they had this touching moment, the next day emily was stone cold to lorelai like why??? was emily only this nice because she was drunk?
Their relationship is not the kind of mother-daughter relationship that rory and lorelai have, but they still have a relationship, despite then fighting and being mad at each other everytime.😅😂 There's still love and care in their relationship, and that for me is 👌
So Emily caring for Lorelai is breaking up her daughters relationship with Luke. When ever Lorelai is happy about something Emily tends to ruin it for her.
I honestly hate Emily she is so toxic and treats lorelai horrendously, how any mother is able to do that to her own kid is beyond me and I will never understand how people can side with her. Yes, she is a fascinating character and has some sympathetic moments but at the end of the day she is a terrible mother to lorelai and the root of so much pain all the while just playing the victim and never being able to owne up to her mistakes
Only episode I remember is Lorelai and Rory having an argument about the relationships. Only comment I remember is something to this effect: "The relationship you have with your grandparents is not the relationship I had with them!"

yeah that’s why Lorelai hated asking her parents for money. Also Rory didn’t really do that she just stood up for her mom, but most of the time Rory was really nice to her grandparents.
For one Lorelai only ask for money once and that was for Rory going to Chilton. And if Richard didn't give Lorelai the check Rory would have gone to Yale using her financial aid money. So how many times did that ask for money.

When i was six years old, i was sexually abused by a neighbor, yeah she knew and went to yelled to the man and all that, but to me, never took me to the doctor to cheking me out, i mean i was too little, i couldn´t explain what that man did to me exactly, but now we all know that when a little girl is abused, the doctor has to check if it was raping or only touching or what... no?? But no, she never did that, or ask me something if i was right , what i felt... nothing...never had psicolgist help ... Nothing... But what she did was, told me that never but never say anything to my dad, i guess because he will be mad at her, couse of corse i was under her care. I never told to anybody, i thougt it was my fault....That still breaks my inside. Or a few years ago, when i was 21 i was in college, and i found out i was pregnant, she had the sospect, so she ask to my brother´s wife if, i was or not, because i was toooo close to her, and she told her that she had to ask me, when i heard them argue i came out and i tell to my mom, that she need to ask me, not her, and she said´to me, "i don´t want to hear anything from you, get out of my sight. " cruel right? I know she was mad, but God i m her dougther, the empaty the compasion, the caring... she has all that, with her grandchildrens her sisters, even with my other siblings, but with me?? Nooooooooooo. The most recent fact , was that, my sister´s ex husband ( they divorced 18 years ago, but still works to my dad, and my beauty salon is right next to my father´s business. so is to near me ), in those years, my sister through him out, she didn´t love him anymore, she said that he was to different, and she was to e nervous and unconfortable around him, and the whole family thought that the mean one was her but no, , since then he has the 100% .support of my parents, even they made my sister leaves her home and not him, because "he was a good father and she wasn´t a good mother" according to them of corse and the lies that he told to my parents !! mmmmm i´m notice now, they never listen... Lol, Ok i found out that, that man, my sister´s ex, was a stalking to me, i found out about that a few years ago like 4 o 5 years, and i end it up to literally cut him out of my life..I mean for good, is like he doesn´t exist to me. There were many events that occurred and from which I realized that he was mmm kind of, maybe too much and not normal interest in me, and that was soooo damn bad to me notice that bc he was like my brother, i know him since i was like 10 years...but suddenly. he started to left me notes with hearts and stuff like that, or candys with loving notes, he was too kind , eventually, i found out that he sculpted in my stuff, my husband saw him doing it, my son saw him spit in my food or drinks, like coffee, my bottle of water when i wasn´t around but i lefted my suff in my dad´s business because i thought that it was safer than left ithem in my salon, , also he stalked me at fb constantly and do all kind of creppy things..., till someday he said it.. that he was in love with me and wanted to be with me...... and i was like iughhh groseee!! i mean i´m merried, with children he is the father or my niece and nephews, is my sister´s ex , he was a like a brother to me, how he can thought that one day something would happen between us??? Was a very , very bad moment to me, but i didnt know what to do, i didn´t want to create trouble in the family, im already the black sheep in the family, And i knew that my attitude was going to cause problems because my parents loves him to damn much, like another sun, after 15 years he is still present in the family, like he and my sister were still merried, he goes to eat every sunday every birthday party of some related, is there, even his family told him that hio had nothing to do there anymore... the childrens does but he?? noooo, but after several years my sister finally met somebody, and they are a couple now, both goes to my parents hpome and even so, he is always there... i mean he seems the son , not my sister... , so, i keept silence, didn´t say anythng, and when my parents notice that i walked away from him, I stopped talking to him and greeting him, they attacked me, they told me that I was rude, impolite and ungrateful to him, that he was tooo good, almost an angel and did´t diserve that i treat him like i did, plus he told them lots of lies about me, for exmple, if i a friend of mine came to visit me tomy salon, , he told my dad or my mom that that man had bad intentions with me, even my dad practically called me a slut once, because of the gossips he invented about my friends... I mean damnd...they were to rude and cruel to me, but they listened ever??? No way!!! They never were interested to know the reason for my attitude, when they yelled to me for that reason i told asked them, , why instead of yelling me, didn´t ask me why i am acting like that, and my father said that if something did happen, he doesn´t wanted to know, but that if he ( my sister´s ex) did something to me, it was time to forgive and forget. i was like whaaaaaaaaaat????? And my mom, said, that she didn´t believe he would do ever somtething bad or mean to anybody,. , but if someday i wanted to talk about it , she was there... but God, that "im here" was like.. i don´t care... that no matter what i tell her, she never will believe me ... For those of you who are complaining on how Lorelai is awful to her parents are either young or they are blind and not see how Lorelai parents treats her. When ot comes to Lorelai and her parents Lorelai has to put her guard up. Emily was a terrible mom and plays the victum way to much. All the fancy things Emily did for Lorelai is nothing. All Lorelai said she wanted from her parents was love and she didn't get that.
Lorelai was raised by a mother with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. And Rory was raised by a mother that probably had Borderline Personality Disorder... Each have their own issues.

So Emily caring for Lorelai is breaking up her daughters relationship with Luke. When ever Lorelai is happy about something Emily tends to ruin it for her.
I honestly hate Emily she is so toxic and treats lorelai horrendously, how any mother is able to do that to her own kid is beyond me and I will never understand how people can side with her. Yes, she is a fascinating character and has some sympathetic moments but at the end of the day she is a terrible mother to lorelai and the root of so much pain all the while just playing the victim and never being able to owne up to her mistakes

The more I grow up the more I realise how spoiled Rory and Lorelai are, they just run at Richard and Emily when they need money and they attack them for being too controlling
yeah that’s why Lorelai hated asking her parents for money. Also Rory didn’t really do that she just stood up for her mom, but most of the time Rory was really nice to her grandparents.

When i was six years old, i was sexually abused by a neighbor, yeah she knew and went to yelled to the man and all that, but to me, never took me to the doctor to cheking me out, i mean i was too little, i couldn´t explain what that man did to me exactly, but now we all know that when a little girl is abused, the doctor has to check if it was raping or only touching or what... no?? But no, she never did that, or ask me something if i was right , what i felt... nothing...never had psicolgist help ... Nothing... But what she did was, told me that never but never say anything to my dad, i guess because he will be mad at her, couse of corse i was under her care. I never told to anybody, i thougt it was my fault....That still breaks my inside.
Or a few years ago, when i was 21 i was in college, and i found out i was pregnant, she had the sospect, so she ask to my brother´s wife if, i was or not, because i was toooo close to her, and she told her that she had to ask me, when i heard them argue i came out and i tell to my mom, that she need to ask me, not her, and she said´to me, "i don´t want to hear anything from you, get out of my sight. " cruel right? I know she was mad, but God i m her dougther, the empaty the compasion, the caring... she has all that, with her grandchildrens her sisters, even with my other siblings, but with me?? Nooooooooooo.
The most recent fact , was that, my sister´s ex husband ( they divorced 18 years ago, but still works to my dad, and my beauty salon is right next to my father´s business. so is to near me ), in those years, my sister through him out, she didn´t love him anymore, she said that he was to different, and she was to e nervous and unconfortable around him, and the whole family thought that the mean one was her but no, , since then he has the 100% .support of my parents, even they made my sister leaves her home and not him, because "he was a good father and she wasn´t a good mother" according to them of corse and the lies that he told to my parents !! mmmmm i´m notice now, they never listen... Lol,
Ok i found out that, that man, my sister´s ex, was a stalking to me, i found out about that a few years ago like 4 o 5 years, and i end it up to literally cut him out of my life..I mean for good, is like he doesn´t exist to me.
There were many events that occurred and from which I realized that he was mmm kind of, maybe too much and not normal interest in me, and that was soooo damn bad to me notice that bc he was like my brother, i know him since i was like 10 years...but suddenly. he started to left me notes with hearts and stuff like that, or candys with loving notes, he was too kind , eventually, i found out that he sculpted in my stuff, my husband saw him doing it, my son saw him spit in my food or drinks, like coffee, my bottle of water when i wasn´t around but i lefted my suff in my dad´s business because i thought that it was safer than left ithem in my salon, , also he stalked me at fb constantly and do all kind of creppy things..., till someday he said it.. that he was in love with me and wanted to be with me...... and i was like iughhh groseee!! i mean i´m merried, with children he is the father or my niece and nephews, is my sister´s ex , he was a like a brother to me, how he can thought that one day something would happen between us??? Was a very , very bad moment to me, but i didnt know what to do, i didn´t want to create trouble in the family, im already the black sheep in the family, And i knew that my attitude was going to cause problems because my parents loves him to damn much, like another sun, after 15 years he is still present in the family, like he and my sister were still merried, he goes to eat every sunday every birthday party of some related, is there, even his family told him that hio had nothing to do there anymore... the childrens does but he?? noooo, but after several years my sister finally met somebody, and they are a couple now, both goes to my parents hpome and even so, he is always there... i mean he seems the son , not my sister... , so, i keept silence, didn´t say anythng, and when my parents notice that i walked away from him, I stopped talking to him and greeting him, they attacked me, they told me that I was rude, impolite and ungrateful to him, that he was tooo good, almost an angel and did´t diserve that i treat him like i did, plus he told them lots of lies about me, for exmple, if i a friend of mine came to visit me tomy salon, , he told my dad or my mom that that man had bad intentions with me, even my dad practically called me a slut once, because of the gossips he invented about my friends... I mean damnd...they were to rude and cruel to me, but they listened ever??? No way!!! They never were interested to know the reason for my attitude, when they yelled to me for that reason i told asked them, , why instead of yelling me, didn´t ask me why i am acting like that, and my father said that if something did happen, he doesn´t wanted to know, but that if he ( my sister´s ex) did something to me, it was time to forgive and forget. i was like whaaaaaaaaaat?????
And my mom, said, that she didn´t believe he would do ever somtething bad or mean to anybody,. , but if someday i wanted to talk about it , she was there... but God, that "im here" was like.. i don´t care... that no matter what i tell her, she never will believe me ...
God !! im still to broke . SORRY ppl fot this litany.

For those of you who are complaining on how Lorelai is awful to her parents are either young or they are blind and not see how Lorelai parents treats her. When ot comes to Lorelai and her parents Lorelai has to put her guard up. Emily was a terrible mom and plays the victum way to much. All the fancy things Emily did for Lorelai is nothing. All Lorelai said she wanted from her parents was love and she didn't get that.
Hate the music playing over their lines. Just let the scenes speak for themselves.
