She only ever needed them to really know and love her and everytime she would try to explain herself they would treat her as ungrateful for not staying in a place she never felt welcomed, so she ran away looking for a home (btw I love and also see emily and richard's pov and how their feelings are also valid in some situations but just like everyone, even lorelai, they cope with difficult emotions in ways that might not be the healthiest

Richard is really such a huge part of the problem and the series really glossed over that. ‘Nothing to deserve that?’ Leaving them was literally the only way they would ever have allowed her to have her own life and I wish Lorelai was more effective at explaining this to them. Lorelai should have said to her dad - ‘explain to me then, in what scenario would you have allowed me to continue going to school, to work, to raise my child and give me the space I needed to breathe and learn how to just be me?’
    That scenario doesn’t exist
It wasn’t about ‘deserving’ it. It just WAS necessary

you are so right! even though it was hard for them, they never acknowledged how hard it was for Lorelai. it was incredibly hard living with no money and a child, after life of privilege. it really breaks my heart, how they never said that she did such a good job and suffered a lot

@@xoxo-kl3xi part of it was how few times Lorelai could put down her witty words and just talk instead of making a mockery of everything (though I still say her greatest line ever was about the panic room 'i can protect against agent orange, ask me how!!!).
The few times they did talk they made progress. The two I'm thinking of are 'why can't we be more like that, rory and I are best friends first and mother and daughter 2nd, and the airplane conversation - you never lost me

that's typical for a parent who wishes the best for their children. She left because she wanted sex and more sex and that comes from freedom. The rest of her issues were strings that comes with that freedom. Look at how she treated rory sometimes making decisions for her thinking in advance that it is not what she wants because it's not what she wants either but she just get shocked that rory was fine with it. She thought rory and her were so alike. But sadly they were. When Rory lived with her grandparents they spoiled her until they knew she was having sex hence the new rules which is valid since she lives with them, but since Rory is so much alike like Lorelai she left without leaving any note. She wanted freedom with lots of sex as well so at the end she ended up exactly like her mother getting pregnant. Sometimes we have to listen to a sensible adult and weigh things out because whether we like it all not Emily and Richard have a very successful marriage, they don't roam around and have sex to any person available..

Lorelei was a little rude in the end. Emily changed and became more closer to Lorelei but Lorelei was terrible until the end in the sequel
