Richard is really such a huge part of the problem and the series really glossed over that. ‘Nothing to deserve that?’ Leaving them was literally the only way they would ever have allowed her to have her own life and I wish Lorelai was more effective at explaining this to them. Lorelai should have said to her dad - ‘explain to me then, in what scenario would you have allowed me to continue going to school, to work, to raise my child and give me the space I needed to breathe and learn how to just be me?’ That scenario doesn’t exist It wasn’t about ‘deserving’ it. It just WAS necessary

She only ever needed them to really know and love her and everytime she would try to explain herself they would treat her as ungrateful for not staying in a place she never felt welcomed, so she ran away looking for a home (btw I love and also see emily and richard's pov and how their feelings are also valid in some situations but just like everyone, even lorelai, they cope with difficult emotions in ways that might not be the healthiest<33)
