  • How I made a backyard firepit with wall blocks and cap for a 36" fire ring with a swinging grate for over the fire grilling.
Grab the (36” diameter) block template pattern here - www.hertoolbelt.com/diy-backy...
I liked the style of the Oldcastle wall blocks, but wanted the blocks to fit together, so I trimmed them to make a 36” fire pit.

Nicely done. I like that you didn't cut any corners. Done by the book. Most people don't do the base right. Good job!!!

I had a circular saw but didn’t know that they sell a masonry blade until I watched your video. Thank you! It definitely made my circular patio easier to finish.

That's a lovely fire pit!!! I should do something like that. Right now I'm using an old washer drum. Nothing fancy but it does the trick.

    Looks amazing, well done!! 👍👍
Just bought my 1st home & this is on my MUST do list lol. I'm curious however, by having a gravel base, does it make it difficult to clean up the ashes?
    Thanks for the vid!😊

Hi! A little confused with the template. The base template prints on 2 different pages at 100 percent. Am I supposed to cut out both templates then join them together?

Hi, love how they fit together nicely. I bought stone yesterday and set mine up and can’t stand the gaps. It just looks sloppy… Is there measurements for the template instead? I don’t have access to a printer right now

nice job , good for you.. I cant even get my girlfriend to bring the garbage cans in. Shed rather drive over the lawn to avoid them. Haaa. I own a masonry and hardscaping company. And again i like your style. well done.

awesome work on cutting the blocks and capstone. How did you calculate your template? I am trying to do the same thing but for a 31" Inside Diameter.

I used Sketchup to model the blocks around a 30" circle to get the angles. I can help if you'll let me know the dimensions of your blocks.

Hmmm.... I noticed that you dug about a foot deep hole for water drainage and then filled it stone. Then you said you had some old concrete from another project and you used it on top. I see you staying it down. My question is. How is water going to flow through the concrete into the drainage hole that you dug? I would think this would case a flooding issue in the pit.

Sorry I wasn't very clear, the gravel/stone I put in the hole was the old concrete that I had broken up. I think I mentioned it because it might look a little different than regular gravel.
