- If you want to build a modern looking square fit pit that will last and not discolor, check out this step by step guide! It's important to use a liner in this fire pit build because the cement blocks will discolor and not last otherwise. The 36" liner is extremely easy to install and the cement blocks/patio pavers you can get at any home improvement store. Get a similar fire pit liner here: homedepot.sjv.io/WxGRZ (affiliate link)

Looks great! Do you have a link for the patio pavers?
@@charliekeith11 I'm sorry I couldn't find them online! They measure approximately 8 x 16 x 2 so that they fit staggered on the cinder blocks perfectly. I'm sure you could find something similar at your local hardware store's garden center. Good luck!

I can’t find paver 8x16x2 at big box store. Only found 8x16x4 do you think it will work for this steel liner? I love your idea so much and already subscribe your channel 👍👍
Was the fire pit 30 or 36 inch?
We made this in about an hour. Took longer to level it out than anything else. Thank you so much for this! Everything fit exactly and looks amazing! Your video saved me so much time from having to figure out how what I needed for the design AND it was so inexpensive using the pavers and construction blocks.
I just built a fire pit yesterday using your design, came out amazing! The top stone really transforms the look of it, tip for all... most towns have free sand/salt mix and it works! That is the key is a ton of sand for leveling, otherwise you'll spend 10-15 minutes per brick trying to make it look right. Great video, Great length, Best video online for fire pits!
Thanks again.
Brandon
Awesome!! Thanks Brandon! 😊
Add cement to your sand first 3 parts sand to one part cement.
Dry stack and level everything.
Then mist your sand cement mixture to set things up.
Great project idea. Overlapping the joints like that really helps the strength. Dirt is "non-flammable", gasoline is "inflammable", btw. Rather than sand, pea gravel works pretty well as a filler and base. We're looking at something similar, but with a propane/methane burner in the center.
Copying this video next weekend. Just ordered the hearth and getting the blocks next weekend. We are a family of 5 so getting something to look nice that doesn’t cost a lot is right up my alley!
Your hands are absolutely BLESSED!!! Turned out great 👍🏾
Girl you did that!!! It looks awesome!!! I’m about to get busy!! 😊
Looks small, firm and fantastic!
A very basic but very good fire pit. Doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective. Great idea, well done 👍
So awesome! I followed this tutorial and built mine and I LOVE how it came out! Thank you!
Nice! It's so nice to see there are smart people still left in this world
Very nice! We've been shopping for a fire pit but this looks like a better option, thank you.
You made that look so easy. It's inspired me to build one.
We built this model and it’s great the only thing we did differently was ours is two levels instead of one and I used a compound to join the bricks together . This style is better then others I’ve seen....thanks’
That is so great to hear!! I'm really glad you love your new fire pit and found my tutorial helpful. 😊
That is seriously the easiest and nicest looking fire pit
Thank you for this idea. It is a beautiful fire put and I will be making one today. Just have to run to Lowes!
Good luck 👍
Looks beautiful
Sweet Mellisa, good job
Nice 👍. Best part is that it’s easy and cheap.
Nice!! I'm gonna build my wife one for Valentines Day
Hey there... just wanted to stop by again and say thank you for the video. I just got done building mine using your video and it turned out great. Thought it was only right to come and give you the props you deserve! Thanks again!
Aw thank you!! I'm so glad you love your new fire pit!!
@@WelcometotheWoodsBlog Absolutely! You deserve it. Mind if I ask you a question? I used your affiliate link and was about to purchase, but I noticed that dimension is 36" and for some reason mine has an inside dimension of 39" 1/2? I built it exactly to your specs and it looks identical, but for some reason its bigger than the liner says? Is that correct? I thought maybe it could be, so the liner doesn't fit snug to keep some heat off the block. Would you mind letting me know so I can order the insert? Thanks again!
@@DaCake2 That couple inches gap is intentional for heat dissipation between the liner and the block! There's a lip on the 36" liner you can set it right on top and it will stay on the blocks.
@@WelcometotheWoodsBlog Thank you so much! I thought so, but I wasn't sure. You're the best! Thanks again.
@@DaCake2 you are welcome!! Thank you for buying from the link and supporting my channel 😊
looks brilliant, good job - I'll be doing something similiar!
Looks so much better than my circle of rocks and cement chunks on my recreation property.
The husband is the MACK DADDY of the year, came out with the beverage when it was DONE. Now that's what I'm talking about. Nice simple fire pit, like the metal ring idea.
I noticed that he came out when the work was done too... couldn't even keep her company! Women no longer need men thankfully!

This is Awesome!! I have all those blocks here at home already! I'll be setting one up this week! Thank you for sharing this idea!!
Yes!! That is so awesome! 😊 Enjoy your fire pit!
I Love this!!
Wow!! I love it!!
Good job thanks for the idea peace.
I this, been wanting to make something like this. Thanks for the inspiration.
Good job! Nice video
This is a great video thanks. I would suggest opening a vent in one of the lower blocks. It helps with smoke
Looks great
Great job!
Amazing video
lovely firepit
Great idea love it
Thank you!
After playing Valheim, I totally respect this a lot more
So cool
Great job
thanks :)
Brilliant 👍
Nice job. Question, how does the front yard become the back yard? I want to try that lol.
Good job
Perfect.
Enjoy all your projects. On this one, now that you have had FP almost 2 years, how is it doing? Should we use sand as a base?
Nice work. Did you think about adhering any of the blocks with cement sealant to ensure the form of the pit stays solidly together?
I did consider doing that and might in the future. Since I wasn't sure I wanted to keep the fire pit in this exact spot forever (we have some different landscaping plans for next year) I didn't adhere the blocks together. However, I think that's a wise idea for someone recreating this project!! :)
Looks good just the way it is I might do it I have free block
Nice 👍
Very nice . Do you have to line the bottom of the pit with something prior to start the fire or can you just light it on the dirt
Looks good, only thing I would suggest and had to do to mine was flip a couple of blocks so the fire could get air.
Thank you for sharing. I just bought a similar ring, a quick question, do you reccomend an in ground or above the ground set up?
I want to thank you for that fire pit I was going to use bricks but the block you was using look like it'd be easier by the way happy Halloween take care be safe and have a lot of fun with that fire pit thank you again
Looks awesome! Thanks for a good idea. #FIRE
Looks great , easy DIY project. I’m doing something similar. What’s the size of the metal part of the fire pit
I did more of a digging into the ground for my. Only i fell it should be bigger those then am planning on building some bench around it all. As a aspie i love landscaping my house.
Great job. What color is that door in the background? I love it. The firepit is great too. Keep up the great work
How many cinder blocks did it take to build your square fire pit and how many caps on the top. Thanks Steve
You make this look so easy to do!!!I think I'm going to get 2 of those frames and make mine longer. Where did you purchase this frame from?
Well damn done!!!
Awesome !. Where did u find the inner ring or liner ?.
What was your outside measurement that you dug the ground out?
Subscribed!
Thank you!
You made this look so simple! I’m going to try it tomorrow. Here goes nothing!!
It is! Best of luck to you :)
Awesome video, I'm going to use concrete blocks so I can epoxy them with glow powder for this. Great Job!!!
Someone's been doing squats ;3 Nice idea for the firepit too :D
How did your fire pit hold up from Serenity did it rust or the sides buckle?
Hi. I am from the UK and have just came across your video. Love the fire pit you have put together and its something like yours I want to build for my back yard. I know you have put the measurements for the fire pit liner in one of the links but whenever I go on to the link it cuts off hmmmm.
So for the fire pit you have built from this video can tell me the measurements for the fire pit liner that I require please. Many thanks.
Way cool smart witty young lady,
Hello, I love your fire pit. It looks beautiful. Can I build this fire pit on top of my backyard patio floor that is made with pavers?
Well, this pit isn't suspended off the ground and if you want your pavers to last I'd suggest you don't put fires on top of them. Eventually they will crack and bust apart. You could remove enough pavers to put this in your patio area and have the rest of the paver patio go all around it?
I am getting a 23'' liner/insert. Any ideas on what size bricks I can use? sorry so bad a math and construction. Any help greatly appreciated.
Do you need 12of both types of concrete bricks ?
Have you heard of the "smokeless" fire pit? Might be a topic for a future upgrade video.
What size insert do I need. I have standard size blocks 16”
Super !!!. I am looking for inexpensive fire pit
Hopefully this one works for you! :)
Hi, I really like the fire pit and I'm going to copy-cat your idea. Can you tell me which size liner you purchased? I see there's a 30" and 36" option.
Hey Joanne! I purchased the 36" 😃 Good luck!!
If you wanted a smaller pit, and purchase the 30” liner, does it still line up and fit with less blocks???
This looks nice. May do the same You ought to put everything you used, and the price of it all in the description as well.
All that info is in the blog post!! :) I used 12 regular foundation block measuring 8 x 8 x 16" and the patio pavers were 2 x 8 x 16." The fire pit liner link is in the description, I bought the 36" one :)
@@WelcometotheWoodsBlog beautiful, thanks! :D
how are you doing today?
$30 American. Here in Canada I just priced the cinder blocks at Home Depot and they want approximately $6 a block. The advantage is they are slightly bigger than the more decorative blocks at the same price.
What was the measurement of the square that you shoveled out?
What size cinder blocks did you use?
you should look at making it a smokeless fire pit. Lots of videos on it here. It will make it more enjoyable for you
How long did it take for it to rust?
I want to do something like this. But, I think I'll have to wait a couple months, until after Halloween when we (hopefully) get some cooler weather.
Hi! First, great job on simple yet elegant fire pit. What’s the size of the liner did you used on this project? They have 2 different sizes. Thank you
Thank you! I bought the 36" liner 😊
Wow, a woman who gets outside and builds stuff... 🥰
It’s sexism to point this out. Sure she is a woman, that’s not the point of the channel
@@CraigularjJoeWoodworks
It was a compliment. 🙄
I've worked construction in Florida for 10 years, and you know how many women I've seen on a job site? Zero. You know why? Because women aren't usually keen on doing hard manual labor. There is no law preventing women from learning a trade, in fact, it's highly encouraged in society, and has been for decades, but women choose not to do it. It's a fact, not an opinion. If facts hurt your little feelings, then I am sorry.
And by the way, "sexism" only exists because of people like you. The rest of us just understand the natural order of things and go on about our day, instead of scolding others who are treating people with respect and kindness.
Who will clean the house and make the husband a sandwich?
Relax. It's atypical to see women as creative, extremely competent with tools, and mechanically minded as she is. She's incredible. I am an engineer myself and have done many technical home improvement projects and her skill, I'll admit, blows mine away. So it's perfectly OK to recognize she's a woman. it's is a complement. Go touch grass.
I like this project very much. Can I ask what's the tool called that you used to check the leveling please? Thanks!
It's a torpedo level 😊
Nice simple idea. Love how you knew to level everything off. Only thing I see wrong is you didn't use any cement/glue/construction adhesive to keep the blocks and pavers in place. They can and will move if you push too much against it. Other than that. Awesome!
I didn't use any adhesive because I'm not sure I want this spot to be the permanent location of the fire pit.
I LOVE THIS!! It look great and sleek and so modern!! But best of all, it looks like something I can do myself!!! Do I need to add sand or pebbles to the bottom or is the dirt safe enough when burning? Also, it the insert metal and do you cover it do prevent rust?
Hi there! Thanks for the compliments and great questions. No need for sand, dirt is not flammable and easy to level/pack down as you place your blocks. I usually cover the metal insert when it rains and store it in my garage during the winter to prevent rust.
Where do you buy the insert?
Where do you get the liner? Is it really only 36"? Looks bigger
This gal is just badass i have to say! But if I were to do the pit I'd like to see some air inlets on the sides to allow for even air circulation and easier lighting and better burning all around...
Does this rust. I did one similar and they stated doe not rust, but did in 1 season.
what are excact dimensions of blocks and pavers?i got 8x8x16 bocks which are actually 15.5,and 16 in pavers are actually 15.25,pulling my hair out
Where did you get the patio pavers? My local lowes and home depot did not have them.
They're usually stored outside in the lumber yard. It's possible they're seasonal, but I don't think so. I bought them at Menards
Hey there, I'm finally working on my Fire Pit, like the one in your video, super excited except that the lining you used and recommended is 36" square and the opening is actually 39 1/2" , would you please advise before I go ahead and order one, not seeing how that would work? Thank you so much!
Yes that is correct! The lip on the liner sits on the blocks and there is about two inches of space all the way around between the liner and the blocks. This is good for heat dissipation! :) Good luck building!
@@WelcometotheWoodsBlog awesome, thank you for responding! :)
We have been building an outdoor patio, including your awesome fire pit. Just this evening my husband and I were templating the cinder blocks, and began scratching our heads about the pit dimensions vs the 36” insert. So glad I started reading the comments. Heat dissipation makes complete sense. Thanks for your video, and for taking the time to reply to all these great questions. I look forward to looking through your channel for more diy ideas.
what size is the liner? thx
What size was the liner?
What size liner did you use? Thank you
I got the 36" size!
Hi what is the measurement of the square size sod you cut out?
I just cut out the size square the blocks made. About 56" by 56"
What other liner would you recommend? Something cheaper
I looked for a very long time to find a square liner, but this was the cheapest one I found. Good luck in your search!
My wife and I just bough this and we bought a square fire pit ring at Lowe’s, the one we got was 30 inches wide. But when we followed your design we realized that you got a larger square fire pit ring. It would help a lot if you specified the size that you purchased. The one that was $130 on your link was only 30in. You might want to clarify that on the video description. Besides that, this is a great video, keep it up!
How did it hold up....the liner didnt get very good reviews
