Dropping this video not too long after Gundam Breaker 4 released was a good call.
I love the game, it's honestly the most fun I've had in a game in years. Reminds me of the older games (arcade style) and it's fairly easy to figure out everything after a few times messing with the assembly mechanics
Atleast he tried
Ong masterful
Look man, I also really really like Sei's mom. Ral is a real one.
This is pretty much the G-Gundam of Build Fighters. Just love seeing Sekai pull out asspull secret techniques.
Hope you get to Divers Re:Rise. That one is my favorite out of all the Build anime.
Divers and rerise are so fun
the music too
ong
"It doesn't make sense, but it's really fun and cool so I don't care."
Ahh, Super Robot logic!
I just figured build fighters just let's people's imaginations go wild with custom builds of fan favorite suits
I'm surprised you didn't mention that Lucas was the grandson of the team Nemesis owner from season one, who after getting scolded by Aila to fight his own battles if he likes Gunpla so much actually did become a good fighter.
I wished he was a main stay in the series, I felt that he was just there for team celestial sphere to fight in the semi finals and that's it.
I've always headcannoned that the sun we see inside of Build Burning is similar to the crystal the Reiji had in BF and that is how Sekai pulls off stuff like the shadow clones. Him being able to tap into it is also why Sei lets him have BF since he originally made it for Reiji.
Around 40:00, so, as I recall, the thing here is that it's Sekai figuring out the ultimate martial art. And Gunpla particles being basically *wish granting magic*, and the Assimilation Mode linking them together, it allowed the Build Burning to perform the technique. I believe the beam attack effect is more...symbolic than literal. Or think of it like a precursor to Saitama's Punch Of Melting Mountains.
if you've watched G gundam you realize the final attack is LITERALLY Domon's Burning Finger finishing move.
@@edwardwilson7459 Which, which you take the ending reveal into account, means that being the school's ultimate technique pretty fitting, no?
The build fighters series is so G Gundam coded, I wonder if it was intentional? You can almost head canon it as a sequel if you reach hard enough.
Totally intentional cause G Gundam best Gundam. I love when they have the pilot heads merged with their suits helmet
Given whose Sekai teacher this holds up even more.
It absolutely is intentional. The Jigen Haou Ryu logo is literally the God/Burning Finger, not to mention how DOMON LITERALLY SHOWS UP AND IS REVEALED TO BE SEKAI'S MASTER IN THE FINALE.
Sort of. Build Fighters and Try were made at a time when Bandai and Sunrise as a whole were stagnating and sought to appeal to an international market. Seed had the most international appeal while G was very popular in the US. Though Wing was the first, it had largely faded by this time and Glory of the Losers eventually cemented its status. It's believed that at least the suit choices for the protagonists' of those two series had those specific suits for that reason as well. However, the overall tournament arc is something that's rather simple to do and doesn't require as much story planning so you can focus on the fights, so that part is likely accidental more than intentional.
Minami Fuji, the voice actress of Mao in Build Fighters, stated that the universe as a whole was meant to be Valhalla for all the Gundam characters. So, it's more of an alternative universe or maybe where all the Newtypes hang out as they transcend existence according to Narrative.
The literally made the MC a student of Domon and naamed his gundam the same as the english translation of Domon's Gundam(wich i assume they were aware off).
I remember they had Domon and Kyoji pop up a couple of times in GBF as cameos, so to have Domon be revealed as Sekai's master isn't that crazy. Maybe in this timeline, Domon grew up without the stress of war, but still loved martial arts enough to teach it; But If G Gundam is a tv show along with the other series, that would still cause confusion?😂
Mao's voice actress once stated that this was Gundam Valhalla, but make of that what you will.
@@ohnosmoarlulcatz Yeah it's understood that this is where some Gundam characters go after they die, like Ramba Ral, Domon after his whole life presumably, and the 0080 cast in that one episode.
Lucas Nemesis was the best character in this show and ill die on that hill!
the finals needed to be his crossbone vs tryon 3
i will always stand by this take
@@esconde9922 Yes, the made up and then didnt use again the particle limit bullshit to made the rivals one lose so the protagonist always win.
Build Fighters Try's big issue is that it was the first rodeo of the new guy in the director's seat, and their inexperience really showed through in how haphazardly the plot flowed. It gives off the impression of hastily done switching of plot beats, altered character designs and scripts that were left on the cutting room floor, no doubt due to heavy executive meddling, and overall a buttload of wasted potential when compared to its predecessor.
It’s a shame that Sei-Iori is just a name in this series
Why did you spell Iori's name with "L"? His name uses the vocal letter "I" (ai), not "l" (L).
I mean he is a world champion stage competitor. His impact is small but him and Reiji left huge impressions it seems
“This doesn’t make sense but it’s really cool and fun so I don’t care” is a great review of G Gundam itself plus any build series
"The Denial Gundam" has the level of subtlety I'd expect from G Gundam.
Build Fighters TRY is a story that is purely built on coolness and hype and I’m all for it. This series reintroduced me to Gundam after my last one being 00
32:54 Although let's be fair here how many of us were expecting some weird Gundam version of Dracula to show up here?
Wouldn't that just be the Deathscythe with added bits?
I liked Try. I like team battles go though, and the MC is a simple battle maniac.
32:26 They chose a castle theme because it can also be a tribute to SD Gundam Lore like the ones from the Tales of the Knight Gundam, as it did fight the Satan Gundam in a castle at one point
This show has a crazy amount of potential to me. Like you could have so many different kinds of kids doing custom build styles and stuff seeing things we would never even get in the “real” shows. They just do the bare minimum I feel, they just take a recognizable ms change its color and add maybe 2 new weapons or just make a new suit that looks really derivative of another suit.
My main issue with TRY is simply that Sekai is just a... less interesting direction to go with for a protagonist. Having him be the G Gundam-style character makes sense conceptually - it's fundamentally a Shounen battle series after all - but it also just feels like he can just do whatever the writers need him to while Fumina and Yuma are constrained by at least some semblance of logic.
Giving him the additional role of harem protagonist also does make sense on paper and I will admit some of that comedy does work, but it just kind of boxes what is the main female cast into those genre conventions without giving Sekai any sort of development as he's stuck as this dense sexless being for his entire screen-time.
Basically, it was just harder to get behind Sekai as it was Sei, at least for me. He feels like he Isekai'd in from another universe and took over the show.
Honestly, this is really is the crux of why Try isn't _quite_ as good as the first Build series. The characters, while fun, aren't really interesting because it seems like they revolve around Sekai and thus don't get the characters arks they should because they're propping up Sekai. I honestly think that Sekai had _way_ too many rivals and didn't do enough with them. That's the main thing that hurts it. Wasted potential of some real good characters.
Also besides all that you said Sekai is solving almost all the series fights screaming:
Jigen Haou Ryuu!!!
Jigen Haou Ryuu!!!
Jigen Haou Ryuu!!!
Jigen Haou Ryuu!!!
........
Sei and Reiji where much more interesting.
@@andrewowens4421 yeah, I think the saddest part is Fumina and Yuuma have interesting core conflicts. Fumina's mindset - and being the team's Girl - pushed her into a supporting role which ultimately bound her to mediocrity until she learnt to assert herself. Then there's Yuuma slowly lifting himself out of his downward spiral after a traumatic defeat that's come to overshadow his life.
Meanwhile, Sekai is just a static character with a flat arc and no real core conflict. I don't dislike his character, but I don't have much to say about it either.
Oh yeah Try's biggest problem by far is how much less interesting the cast is compared to the original series. In OG Build Fighters almost every character we meet is memorable (sans the Thai guy who did a baseball), while Try only really had 2 in Gyanko and Sakai (I guess Lucas too but he's technically a hold over so I'm not counting him).
When I was a kid that build burning gundam reveal was the most hype thing I had ever seen.
Love your videos!!!! I can't wait for you to do gundam build divers rerise!!
nothing from this series will be as insanely hype as the kampfer amazing vs the gm sniper k9
that absolutely was peak
Definitly in a top 5 across both seasons.
@@edwardwilson7459 honestly its a top 3 across all the build/break series for me its a ridiculous fight that is insane levels of detail and great action
it could be in a top 5 fights for any gundam series period
How did I JUST realize that the scene with the thugs at 2:40 is a reference to Domon from G Gundam…
Saaaaame!
I had fun with Try Fighters, but my biggest annoyance was with how Hoshino and the Winning Gundam got treated. The first version was cool with the whole team aspect of the series, it was built to handle mutliple ranges to cover Sekai and Yuma's weaknesses as needed along with being able to transform into a core fighter and power up the others (legs acted as ranged weapon enhancements and the arms powered up Sekai's punches) with the spare parts from that. Then half way through the series she gets beaten by lady kawaguchi and most tactical/teamfight aspects were basically dropped and she just started using Winning Beam as her main thing. The first Winning Gundam has a lot of fun ideas that makes team tactics, without stuff like that it feels like 3 1v1s are going on instead of them working as a group. Like Lady Kawaguchi is saying fuck teamwork you gotta girlboss and get a bigger kill count for yourself, but if thats the case why are they TEAM BATTLES.
The Build Fighters and Divers are so good. I put off watching them for a while cause I didn’t think I’d like them but they have sick suit redesigns, interesting fights and some really nice animation! I’m all for the shorter and lighter story lines, Gundam fan service and G Gundam vibes
Divers BLOWS. Divers Re:Rise is good.
This is the show that got me into gunpla, i watched this back when it was still up on Gundam info good times
I was actually super surprised with how much I enjoyed the Gundam Build Fighters series. I need to get around to Build Divers someday. I think it's like the only Gundam series I haven't watched.
Also mad hype for Iron Blooded Orphans. My favourite series, I'm amazed at just how emotional it was for me, it's... sad. It's horrific. Did not expect Gundam to go there.
I shall await for the Outlaw Star and Iron-blooded orphan video, but I also would love to hear your opinion on the rest Build series in the future. Gundam Build Divers, Gundam Build Divers Re:Rise, Gundam Build Real, and finally Gundam Build Metaverse. The last two especially since, unlike the Divers part of the the Build series, they are shorter with only 6 and 3 episodes respectively. But I genuinely think you'll find something to enjoy with Divers and Divers Re:Rise. Keep up the great work as always man. Your videos are a real treat to watch and are pretty hype when I get notifications about them.
It is odd to leave out Lucas is the kid from last season that got yelled at because he wanted a Gunpla trophy for himself. It is just a funny callback from last season.
I really wanted to like Try as much as Build Fighters, but I got so tried of Sekai constantly getting all of the shine. My boy Yuuma got no love at all
As has been shown by this review & the show itself, Sekai didn't constantly kick ass. In fact, he got pummeled like 5 Times in the show. 2 times by Minato Sakai in Gunpla fights, 1 time by Ado Saga before being saved by Meijin, 1 time by Snibal Dragon Gira in the castle, and 1 time by Junya Inose in a real "dude vs dude" fight. That's far more losing streak than Reiji from GBF who was practically invincible.
Very cool! I liked the new bits of you standing with your mic. Very fun and change of pace to things. The video tape display over the image is also good. Well done and good job on taking breaks here n there to help yourself along. Also happy belated birthday! Very belated but ya lol
One of my absolute favorite things with the Gundam Build Series is whenever they do those large scale battles they make so many great cameos of Mobile Suits you never get to see on-screen in a main gundam series that are from manga, novels, games and even IRL Custom Gunplas that are showcased in IRL Custom Gunpla Tournaments.
I randomly watched this show on youtube one afternoon and finished it a few days later while my only knowledge of Gundam was IBO lol
You must have been lost on the references then
@@60nascar Pretty much. lol
2:27 gotta love the domon reference
53:21 G Gundam is so powerful that Domon himself can even transcend series🤣this fist of mine is burning red it's roar cries for Gunpla victory!!!
Really enjoyed the build series the soundtracks are fantastic for example Summer Gundaba Hajimemashita lives rent free in my head.
Man, watching Try during high school was a hype trip. One of the few anime I could happily geek out with another friend of mine. This was weridly one anime I never wanted to end despite it not being a military anime, let alone a military gundam show.
I enjoy team battles so I loved this series.
This is the season that I like to call this is what happens if g gundam was made more for kids and oh man did it showed. I didn't really like this season in comparison to the first season but if there is one thing I will give this season credit is this was the last final time where the characters actually used their model kits like they were actually piloting them like gundams before we get to later seasons where they kind of went even further beyond with the digital world nonsense trying to be a copy of either the dot hack series or the sao 1. Oh and all that built up to wait for a certain character only to just be given a silhouette is STILL a cucktease move.
im just sold to the domon kasshu cameo
The ring out rule was explained in the first episode with Fumina explaining to Sekai after it happened with the Dom and both of them going to catch it. So it was brought up twice
Outlaw Star mentioned! Let's go!
Happy belated birthday. Gundam build fighters is special in its own way. For me it was a good break from the regular shows and it's the reason why I got into gunpla.
I completely agree with you about the “hype moments” and that also funnily enough encapsulates my issues with the series. I want “Gundam” moments not sequences more akin to DBZ choreography. The OG GBF was so doubled over on Gundam-ness, including the inventiveness of the combat. An ace doesn’t just scream louder and shoot a larger blast. The will to win propels them to invent new methods of manipulating their machine. There’s also a tension that exists somewhere between the pilot and the suit. That’s almost nonexistent in this show since there is so much martial arts and super robot nonsense. And don’t get me wrong - I LOVE super robot nonsense, but this much doesn’t belong in Gundam imo.
For me, Try was ALL hype attacks with little-to-no thoughtfulness.
I do hope you get to Build Divers. I actually found it a really charming and heartfelt story about finding community online but I guess some people didn't like it because it wasn't as silly as Fighters was, I guess?
Seeing a Rick dom actually run and not glide/hover along the ground is so cursed to me.
Cerulean by BACK ON is a certified banger. Tryon 3 is a certified G.
Breaker 4 music rent free in my brain.
completely agree with your take. Build Fighters was just the better series, BUT Try was a FUN ride and really hammered "GUNPLA IS FREEDOM!"
The ending of this show was so out there I love it.
I was just thinking about watching this after finishing up IBO, guess i have another reason to!
My least favorite part of Shimon is that he pilots the Destiny instead of the Maxter, a Gundam that has a Boxer mode and would have fit him really well.
I feel like saga was originally going to be a lock on stratus reference (especially since his entire team uses gn drive Gundams) but due to some reason they changed him to look like Giovanni from Pokemon and never bring up the yumas past about him loosing to saga again which lead to yumas under development
Zoids New Century in the works I hope!
(Nice to hear some GB4 music! Haha. The addiction is real!!!)
57:45 completely agree with separating the show into two videos. IBO season 1 & 2 are like night and day.
The overall problem with Try is that it raised the power level up to a point where they couldn’t continue in the same series without some change of direction (which build divers did). Like, I wanted to see them continue on to the World Championship like Builder Fighters did, but it would have turned into a super robot fight and that’s difficult to do for Gundam.
Gunpla lovers are eating good this month.
Try on 3 is the best Gundam in this series and i love it that i can play it in GB4 and make my on version base on it
Another great one!
Hope to see you cover Getter Robo. Any one.
tell us what the horrifying gundam is
Wait I figured out I haven’t seen this at all. I mistaken Divers for Try. Now I gotta go watch Try 😂
Watching this in the background while building gunpla
I enjoy try way more than any of the other build series. Plus, the TR-6 woundwort has a very small cameo at the end.
The Castel is a reference to an SD series the knight gundam is from its the demon lord gundams castel
Still hoping for a Seed Stargazer video
I’m guessing Junya was originally planned as the one to hurt Yuuma and Sekai’s rival. It just makes sense but they needed more model kits. Celestial sphere was lame (except for the end). Not having the End Gundam and Denial on the same team for the final fight was horrible
Would've been more interesting if Suga Akira, Junya Inose, and Adou Saga were once in the same team 🤔
BTW nice petite guy collection
It's called the Meatbun chronicles. look it up.
I can't wait you to review Gundam Build Divers ReRise! Shame you have to review Gundam Build Divers first...
I really hpoe you do Build Divers :Re rize but sadly you would do og build divers.
so excited for ibo
It's good to have a reviewer who gave a fair chance to Try instead of bashing it right off the bat or saying that it's bad coz it's worse than GBF.
Try is actually good and did some things even better than GBF like this video mentioned. But I want to add one more thing that Try did better: the final opponent is not a comically mustache-twirling villain who likes to cheat like in GBF but an honest-to-goodness champions who (like Shia) even offered their help to our protags to improve. That makes Try a more _pure_ sports anime without some corporate villainy which I prefer.
If *GBF* is *Yu-Gi-Oh* where you have corporate enemies, cheaters & supernatural background story (Reiji & the corporate villains are aliens with their crystal powers) then *Try* is more like *Captain Tsubasa* where all the athletes & opponents play within the rules & being relatively fair despite some of them mastered some crazy techniques. Also, they are all humans from Earth, not alien or the ghost of a pharaoh.
To me fighter/diver are fun mech battle without psychological scars
Definitely inferior to the previous Build Fighters series, but still had its enjoyable moments. That fight with the three ground Gundams was a personal favorite, though I always wondered how the school's members would have felt with all their big talk of ruling the battlefield if the RNG hadn't favored them and they'd wound up with an underwater or space-based arena instead of the perfectly suited jungle environment.
no mention of hte burning finger he does with his hand.
After this I do really want osee you review Build Diver and Build Divers ReRise.
I am a sucker for spear wielding ms
idk if it's just me or what but the try burning gundam vs denial gundam scene (at least the final parts of it) kinda resembles cloud vs sephiroth fight from FFVII advent children 🤔
Happy late birthday
Surprised you didn't roll Island Wars into this video.
I personally thought Gundam build fires try was a good follow up to Gundam build fighter. Still have not seen build fighter diver though.
39:00 Oh yeah that's why the show sucks when I really think about it. There's a sniper on the team who doesn't snipe. Even in his big fight with Tryon, Yuuma gives up on his advantages as a pilot and just does the anime scream thing.
Try, while insanely good, could have been so much better if the focus had been a bit less on Sekai and more on Hoshino and Yuuma. The show goes out of it's way to insist that teamwork is what makes the dreamwork but a good chunk of the time Sekai is the one winning the battles. Both get their time to shine, but not nearly enough to really flesh themselves out.
Martial arts club is too dangerous but it's ok to play gunpla battles that use particles from a different dimension and can blow up stuff around the room. Typical Japanese high school
That and if you are too good that you obtain 100% sync with your gunpla, the feedback could affect your physical body as well
Lowkey, Minato is just very annoying, honestly his desperation for Yuma
Can't believe Ral is just 35
the fact that him being 35 in TRY makes him 27 in the first season is absolutely crazy lol
@@Retcon404 right?? He looked middle aged. I find it creepy that he's lingering near Sei's mom. And to think he's just 27 at that time haha
I don't really love Try unlike the first BF. There are times where I have to skip some scenes cuz I feel bored from looking at it. Although, the realizations I encountered in this anime end up making it an unforgettable show for me.
Gottdammit Retcon you cant be doing radical new stuff like sharing the screen with the scenes playing!!! You got to at least insert a warning in the beginning of the video I thought my tablet was messed up.
What Gundam series are you reviewing next?
Are you gonna do BFT: Island Wars and GM's Counter Attack down the road?
the build series estar in RG quality and then start to drop to HG , SD even to bootleg XD
the Battlegoue comes las a EG , good but quick.
I enjoyed try, it had pretty good moments and likeable characters that I really liked following although I say it just didn't hit the mark as high as its predecessor as there are parts that could have used more effectively and it does leave off on a sort of cliffhanger of an "open tortament" everyone has been talking about that has yet to be resolved so the season feels more like a set up. All in all a fun sequel but just not as good as the original.
I honestly thought I was gonna hate this show after despising Build Fighters, but it was tolerable
Am I the only one thinking this is a romcom
How many more series do you have left to go? SD Gundam Force is one of those you haven’t done yet.
With you in your explanation for Trans-Gundam. I feel the same feeling towards Denial Gundam. I love the Gundam, hate the pilot.
