Actually just got mine in the mail yesterday, I change cases a lot so I’m not interested in using the sticker plate, the website made it sound like iphone users wouldn’t need to use it. That is false, the magnets are so weak it falls off immediately when you pick it up. Disappointed and will be returning it. I was super excited for magsafe as I was waiting for that before I jumped on the Ridge train.
Can corroborate, the hold on this is absolutely terrible without the strengthening tray. That tray is required for what you would consider a normal MagSafe hold, without the tray the wallet doesn’t hold at all. I wouldn’t be comfortable with a charger holding on with that level of hold, let alone my actual wallet with my ID and cards in it. And I only have 4 cards in it, can’t believe Ridge thought this was okay to release as is, especially for over $120. Processing a return right now as well.
Same exact experience. Waited for magsafe to buy a ridge wallet, cannot believe the amount of disappointment Ridge has provided here. It is truly astonishing. Bravo Ridge, way to set the bar...........
I will be returning mine, terrible magnet strength if you don't use the plate... and the plate is taped permanent to whatever you stick it to. I have a $20 wallet with amazon with 2x more magnet strength. It's sad Ridge decided to release this with this quality.
Yeah unfortunately I don’t have two of the same phone to record me doing the shake test with the phone in the case, but I will say unless you have the strengthening tray on, it will fail the strong lateral shake test because of how the magnet alignment works. Even then with the tray applied, enough force/shaking will dislodge the wallet. But I don’t think you want too strong of a connection either. Hope this clears things up
So how does this compare to other magsafe wallets like the ekster magsafe and fantom magsafe? Seems like the ridge isnt correct magsafe design like apple's layout? Isnt the whole purpose of magsafe so it is universal for all magsafe accessories? 😂
Thank goodness for this review (especially this comment section). Terrible magnet strength is a deal breaker for me, so I’ll be going with a non-MagSafe Ridge wallet during this sale!
@@NoMiddleName2 is that what you thought ? Hey we all can have different opinions I know how crazy that sounds in 2024 but …. I just ehh didn’t think so good video tho
imho the magnets add too much bulk to the Ridge wallet. I've expected a thinner solution than this. I mean ... this is like sticking magnets on the Ridge wallet and that's it.
Yeah it’s a tough design decision I think, because outer Ridge plates are so thin (not the internal chassis) that it’s hard to get magnets that are strong enough to be flush into the plate while also having modularity to the current Ridge design for existing customers.
@@everydaycarry true that, but I think with a modification of the inner plates it could be possible without adding that much bulk. I bought my first Ridge wallet more than 10 years ago (I think in 2013), it's still part of my collection, the main reason I bought it was because I wanted (and still want) less bulk. So this solution is definitely not for me. Anyway, thank you for clearly showing how much thicker it is with added magnets.
I don't have a ridge, but figured they could make holes in the outside plate and have the magnets on the inside one? But sure let's add it on the outside, and charge 50 Aud bux for it.
Oof… was excited by the thumbnail, but this looks like a first prototype of a product instead of the production version. Should have embedded the magnets inside the backplate. Then take one of your cases and make a cutout like the OpenCase to help get the MagSafe wallet even closer and more secure to the phone. The extra bulk from the protruding magnets and nesting tray killed all hope I had for this.
Facts lost a lot of credibility in a lot of parts my incredibly heavy iPhone 15 making it seem like it’s the iPhones fault why the MagSafe was falling in the car just say the magnets suck 😂😂
I embraced minimalism with my MagSafe wallet carrying initially 2 cards, and now 3. The leather Apple wallet stretched out over time. I find that I rarely even use the cards now that my NFC Apple Pay works seamlessly in more places.
hey I think if you try to add it on from the MagSafe product pages it will be the default AirTag attachment, but if you browse the site there should be a dedicated product page for the AirTag case and the carbon fiber version is there as a color option. It isn’t a sticker!
@@everydaycarry I dont see this product anywhere on the ridge website. It seems that its not released yet OR it is only included if you order the magsafe wallet in combination with a airtag cash strap. I ordered the magsafe carbon wallet plates AND a airtag cashstrap because i had a ridge wallet already and they didnt send a carbon airtag cash strap nor can find it on the website. I only see the carbon airtag moneyclip which you can buy seperate.
Nope. So ridge is a great wallet, but this fails in 3 areas for me. 1. Empty ridge is the same size as 2-3 cards, so add more and that’s one thick wallet stuck to your phone. 2. You need a “plate” extra on your phone, so more thickness. And 3. Ridge don’t sell the wallet plate separately for existing users. Nope, nope and nope again!
I would NOT say its really MagSafe compatible. I have been waiting YEARS for this and when i got it, well, I just initiated my return for refund. It blows my mind that my trusty PopSocket MagSafe wallet for 30 bucks totally outperforms the ridge. Deeply disappointed in ridge’s decision making and execution.
Na. If you didn’t need the tray I’d prob get it. But the fact I need that tray and then have to adhere it to a case I won’t keep long it’s a nope for me.
I think I MagSafe as a whole isn’t that great. The magnets never seem to be strong enough for accessories like this. I went a different route and got the MagBak case and wallet and it’s great. I like that I can mount my phone with the wallet attached to my mount in my vehicle. Plus it’s much cheaper than Ridge’s option, I paid $80 total for the MagBak case and wallet.
would love to have this on the back side since I don't run a money clip or cash strap. I'd hate to lose the clean look of the front with those huge magents, kind of an eye sore to look at. but i'm one of the only few who don't carry a cash strap or money clip, so it really doesn't make sense for make an option for this.
I would have preferred if they sold an upgrade kit that only had the 1 plate with the magnet. That’s all I need. Not the other side, not the strengthening tray.
i peeled the silicone off the tray and just use the metal plate. the hold is much better for those trash magnets and you can still use other mag safe products
This is the worst product Ridge put out so far. If you pack 6 cards in the wallet without the plastic sticker holder, it slides off. It slides off in my pocket, and the magnetic hold is too weak for itself. Obviously a cash grab at this point.
Is there any way that the wallet can function as a phone stand? Without this functionality it is missing a key differentiator from other brands, such as Peak Design.
This is a great suggestion, and we are always eager to hear from our customers. We'll send your suggestion along to our product development team for review!
@@RidgeWalletYT it could be something as easy as a credit card sized sheet that fits in the wallet (like the bottle opener one) that folds out into a stand, that should be a relatively easy and quick fix!

Combining elegance and luxury kislux
$175 for a magnet card holder is crazy. It'd be worth it if the wallet came with $100 already in it lol
If they put a pop socket mount on the opposite side of the ridge wallet, they’ve got my money.
im using pop-socket magsafe wallet last 2 year, it was a very good purchase, but I think magnets got loose a bit
Why don’t you just attach a pop socket to the back ?
This is my plan
That looks clunky in my imagination. But I’d be curious to see that
@@andersonjray because I hate putting adhesive on things honestly
Why would someone install the plate and then deny their ability to charge via MagSafe? It makes no sense.

The whole point of MagSafe is so I don’t need to put a sticker on the back of my phone. Massive fail in design. Use stronger magnets!

Well-designed MagSafe accessories don’t require a “strengthening tray”.
What about the “Apple” OEM silicone cases? Does it hold good to them
now it might be easier to crack the screen with that bulk in your front pocket
