Hello and welcome to Saabkyle04! RUclips's largest collection of automotive variety! In today's video, we'll take an up close and personal, in depth look at the 2014 Cadillac ELR.
MSRP pricing for the ELR, before options, begins at:
    Standard: $75,000
    Premium (As Shown Here): $80,140
During this presentation, we will take a 1st person look at what the vehicle is all about beginning with the start up, performance data, fuel economy, the occasional track data, and build quality. Also, I will teach you how to use most of the interior and exterior features in a detailed fashion, that before, you could only get from going to a dealership yourself! Throughout the video, I will highlight key styling and unique differences about the vehicle, any available options, and of course it would not be an enthusiast car video without the good ole engine portion with rev and exhaust note with interior and exterior perspectives. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.
FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHANNEL SEE BELOW: In this channel you will find in depth educational videos of automobiles from all over the world, presented in a more detailed fashion than ever before. Basically, this gives the viewer the chance to view the most detailed 1st person look you can get without going to an actual dealer yourself! Every video is consistent in the way I present so viewers know what to expect in my presentations. I treat every vehicle with the same respect whether a 1960 Chevrolet Impala SS or the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador. I film all types of vehicles from past, present, and future while broadening the knowledge of the automotive enthusiast. You will see everything from vintage, brand new, exotic, mainstream, old, etc. I am very proud of this channel and have built it up from amateur videos years ago to what you see today. Everyone calling this car crap probably hasn't seen it in person. This thing is impeccably well built. The refinement alone is worth the price in my opinion.

I was actually able to see one of these at my local Cadillac dealer recently and the exterior is nice but the interior is beautiful. Probably the best interior GM has made since the 60s.

I think it comes with two or three different grill options. I agree, the standard grill looks cheap and hideous. But then again, what would you expect from GM. They really don't know what they are doing.

i love how this car looks. to someone who doesn't know much about the drivetrain in this, they would think its a gas powered sports car. too expensive though, even with tax incentives.

I attended the San Francisco Car Show in November 2014 and visited the Cadillac ELR showcase. The Cadillac ELR garnered much attention from visitors. The car is long slung and impressive upon approach. One issue was young hosts didn't know too much about the actual machinations of the ELR which was unfortunate because the visitors had questions on drivetrain, horsepower, hybrid capabilities, and then charging stations. The ELR uses the same drive train as the Chevy Volt therefore I question the price point ($75K) for the performance as people will expect more performance for the price. There needs to be more information on the "charging" and "charging stations" because this is a hidden price. In conclusion, the Cadillac appears to be a good start but for the price-performance the high scale consumer will look elsewhere. While I am tempted to purchase an ELR...I cannot convince myself the $75,000 is a value-add without the performance.

Guys let's be glad that we have options to choose from and are not stuck with cars that look like a Prius. At least they are trying to make electric cars more appealing. With that being said, I do think the $70,000 price tag is stretching it a bit. I can see $50,000, maybe even 60, but 70 is pushing it. But if they believe in their heart that that car is worth the $70,000 price tag, then hey, more power to them.

I've seen the ELR at a showing and the dealership and it is slick, fine. Got those long smooth handle free doors like the coupe. The interior is a work of art. It's not big, not compact, but roomy inside. If you need a back seat, forget it. I'd need more info on electric cars. Starts at $72 -84k, lol. You can get it now for about $55k and Caddy will install the charger up to 3k. Nice. GM redesigned all Caddies and upped the price.

These can be had used with under 40,000 miles for under $30,000... less than half the price of new. There are some good deals out there if the ELR is your thing.
I test drove a 2014 yesterday and I agree that it's very well made, very comfortable, and drives nicely. My only misgiving is the buzzy 1.4L engine, but I think I can forgive that, given everything else this car has to offer.

This is a car for those with a discerning eye. I even have family that will buy anything just for the 0-60 time. That is so old fashioned to me because to live with a car you need so much more. I sat in a model made just like the one presented here at an auto show and I was floored with how well built it was. Nothing under 100K can touch it in most regards....good job Cadillac.

    • @marc1093280
      @marc1093280 10 лет назад

There are plenty of cars for $50,000 that could beat this car, and for $75,000 this car better also be RWD or AWD and have a twin-turbo V8. A CTS-V coupe is pretty much like this car in terms of interior quality, just a bit dated, but it's RWD and can go much faster than this car, which is a dressed up Volt. Cadillac made a mistake raising the prices on their cars, and the ELR should start at $55K. I am a flexible person but $75,000 for a FWD car is pushing it. Would it has killed them to give it a some more HP and torque and AWD?

This car isn't bad to look at. The headlights are a little funky but the styling all around is great. It's obviously the price that makes people super mad. And this car is for people who want to have the luxury car buyer status. So they opt for this and not the volt. Because either way, it's still considered a Cadillac. I'd love to own this car.

I must've blinked & missed the test drive? It's basically a Volt, yes with a gorgeous Cadillac body & interior. It also has 100% LED lighting. These are the differences, but still hard2 justify a price difference of $36,000-$40,000 higher? She still only drives 39 miles range on Full EV Mode.

With mid-2014 incentives and the tax credit, you can almost get it down to 50k, a good price for a new Caddy of modern quality with such high quality, but a used one in a year will be dirt cheap so I'll likely buy a used around then.

The Voltec powertrain only uses about 11 of the 16.5 kWh available to propel the vehicle. No part of the battery is reserved for a particular use (ie pure EV or hybrid). The entire battery is charged or recharged as necessary within the state-of-charge limits in the software code.

    • @bnkwupt

The interior quality of the ELR is excellent. Leather, wood, carbon fiber, and Alcantara are everywhere. It definitely does not have the typical GM plastic interior feel to it. The design and layout is very nice, although the control layout for the infotainment and climate control is kind of busy.

WesternSTi p1 is ugly af. The only good looking hybrid cars are Fisker Karma and Cadillac ELR.

If it's like the Volt, it's called an "audio cue" and the volume can be raised, lowered, or muted in the infotainment.

Cadillac is now a really nice brand: the ATS and CTS are really nice cars that can easily compete against Imports and win against them in many areas.
The ELR is probably the only Cadillac I dislike. Nothing is really wrong with it, but it feels like a product of 'old GM'. I'm perfectly fine with platform sharing: everybody does that these days. However, when Buick made the Verano from the Cruze the interior was overhauled, running gear was unique and only cost ~$10k difference in price. The Trax and Encore while share identical running gear the Buick has enough differences to justify ~$8k difference.
For the ELR however, I can't oversee the fact you're paying a ~$30k premium to get a less convenient 2dr nicer looking Volt. The lack of any changes to the powerplant & running gear is disappointing.
    EDIT:
Upon further pondering, I now realized the mistake that GM made. The ELR should have never been a $75,000 Halo car for Cadillac. Instead, it should have been what the C30 was to Volvo or the CT200h was to Lexus.
Cadillac should have badged the ELR as their ENTRY-LEVEL car aimed at bringing in millennials who are more into technology using the Voltec-hybrid powertrain and for young-rising entrepreneurs. Instead of splurging in tech, take out the unnecessary tech gadgets (or make them upgrade options) and price it starting at $38k: slightly under the ATS coupe but above the Volt. Then it would make good money, draw in new customers to Cadillac & promote a 'cool', environmental friendly image with a neat design that distances it with the more pedestrian Volt.

Great review, everything you want to know about the 2014 Cadillac ELR! Very nice car, I might be in need of a short range golf cart in the near future and the ELR is at the top of the list! ;-)~

I guess as long as there are still barn finds to be had and classic cars out there I can embrace the new ones. You gotta admit this bad boy must just whisper down the highway.

For $75,000 Cadillac would have been better off dressing up a Camaro, making it look pretty close to the Elmiraj coupe, and offer it with the 4.5L TT V8. Then Cadillac could say they have a proper luxury coupe.

The 75k price tag is before all of the tax rebates

YouDontWannaFightMe The 75K price tag is also ridiculous. I'd rather go for a Model S.

Even after all the tax rebates, it's still a fuckin' ripoff! It's better to get a CTS-V coupe for the same price.

marc1093280 V coupe 2WD starts at $64k then it depends on the incentives and what you have in your pocket. Also 2014 is the last year for the CTS Coupe has been discontinued. V series you can check.
