Grieving for my dog child Woofie, aged 14 yrs, he departed this world 17 yrs ago , Doggies are just pure love and devotion, Angels sent to teach us how to love one another. I saw a road sign one day, years ago. “My greatest goal in life is to become the person my Dog thinks i am”. To the living memory of Chip💕💕.

i, too am amazed at the place names in the UK and the stark description of “Dog Sick” mould The little vilage/town of “Yelvertoft” ? I am very curious about the origin of the name! There must be a story in here somewhere. I am enchanted by the the old red brick school house. and its connection to Cromwell. you have such a rich and ancient hheritage of history in the UK. As an American Anglophile, i get such a thrill out of seeing all the lovely sights along the canals, as the seasons change. NOW I get why so many who come to America and see our wildlife are in awe...there's none in the UK- the exception being tons of birds, foxes, badgers and an occasional deer 😪 As I drove to work today- in 1/2 hr, I passed by a dead 300lb bear- hit by a car, saw 4 deer in my neighbors field, a hawk, and possum - on the side of the road 😪 Last night as I drove home, I saw a coyote carrying a dead ??, a hawk with a mouse in its talons... I've only seen 3 bear and 2 moose this year though? Hunting harvest last year were 568 bear - and it was a mild winter, so we should have a LOT this year!

When we watch these vlogs on RUclips we all become really invested in the people's lives and if they have pets, we become really fond of them too. I haven't ever had the pleasure of meeting the Chugabug Crew, but I was overcome with sadness when Gary broke the news to us about Chip's passing. It was lovely to be able to see such a beautiful, little garden of flowers growing around Chip's cross and a parade of field mushrooms climbing the hill alongside it. A nice vlog again Vanessa.🙂 The days are getting duller but the sun still shines and produces nice views along the canal, a lovely shot of Alice Grace moored up and again the great range of plants and fungi caught in their glory. Hi Anthony, what a wonderful comment once again! Are you a writer? The mushrooms that I spotted this week were mainly the inedible ones. I have an amazing book by Roger Philips that tells you which ones you can eat. If I film any more this week, then I will title whether they are edible or not. Hello Vanessa - greetings from Poland
What a wonderful way to start my Saturday before English Conversation lessons begin. We had our first snowfall of winter 2022/2023 last night. Only 2 or 3 centimeters.
A beautiful cruise, the highlight of which for me was, the red kite and the kestrel. Gorgeous autumnal scenery, lots of mushrooms. Well done to Michael for repairing the fanbelt. A job well jobbed!

Snow this time of year is quite normal. In fact, it's about a week late this year. Very cold wind from the east. Minus 6 right now at 22.30 Saturday night. Taking into account the chill factor from the wind, it's probably feeling about minus 10!

Well all this dog talk got me thinking, I lost my beautiful border collie just before the first lockdown, so maybe now I'm ready for another canine friend? Wish we had those sloes up here in the north of Scotland, They bloom nicely but don't fruit very well here. Odd years we get half decent fruits but mostly they are small and stony.

hello again Vanessa. Seems like weeks since I last sent you comment. But this was really good video and the Red Kite was a joy to behold. The first one I came across was in a field where I was working with my tractor. That must have been in the late 80s. Since that time they have multiplied rapidly. Nowadays every town and village seems to have it's own resident bird. They are truly beautiful.

I love watching the kites. Humans should not intervene is bird numbers. That happened in China with sparrows then they were over run with bugs. Thanks again for the ride I can see why the hilltop was used to survey the territory by the Romans I think I could easily spend a day there just observing the wildlife around me while looking out over the scene. Vanessa thanks for another voyage on Alice Grace. I have to say that trip through the Tunnel was a bit hair raising. Passing another boat like that in such a narrow space would have freaked me out. Were you driving or was it Mr. M?( He did a great job fixing the fan belt. By the way.) Now to my favorite part of the voyage the encounter with the Red Kite and the Kestrel I have to say the Kestrel has become my new favorite bird after watching a you tube of a Asian girl named Hesper who had a Kestrel she named Goji she was with the bird for two years and he traveled everywhere with her and finally she let it go back to the wild reminded me of my Owl. I also thought it was very touching when you stopped to pay your respect to Chip and left those little coasters at the book exchange. Have a great week see you next Friday. Steve

I am almost to the end of your Journal only five more to go. I really enjoyed The Flower of Gloucester it reminded me of the 60s TV shows that I grew up with simple plots made interesting by a few plot turns I like the one where they actually used the legs to get through that tunnel. I have given up and ordered the DVD Fried green tomatoes. Can’t wait to get the next edition of your Journal hope you are having a great weekend. Steve

Great story about the Red Kites. Saw my first one 18 years ago on the way from Edinburgh to Ullapool. California guy off to chase his roots and climb some Munros.

Oh, just a fan belt? There's an old saying around here that a "Boat" is a big hole in the water, into which you pour lots of money. But to me, boats are so worth it because they afford us the opportunity to see and hear so much of nature that we might not otherwise experience . Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us! (Well, except maybe for the Dog Sick Slime Mold... I probably could have done without that 😆.)

Ah, did you see your boat on the vlog? I was so impressed with Crick as I have only been there to go to the boat show before and I didn't realise it had beautiful woods and gardens and the magnificent hill to climb. Yes NBwakamatandoto Natasha and paul and enjoyed it.I live 10 mins dog walk from Dudley no 2 Hawen basion safe mooring and friendly, the park and nature reserve is just short walk to the dis used part of canal(to be restored but not in my life time) the wardens will be happy to meet you and show you around. If you could give eta, Good week end so i could tip wardens of. and see what else i can find that interesting for you
Oh Trevor this is all music to my ears!😊 I would absolutely love the opportunity to be shown around the reserve. I think that we will probably be in that area around January time, but it is hard to give exact dates at the moment. How much notice do you think you would need? I can normally do two weeks in advance and know where we will be. I am very interested to see the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and anything else too. Are there any tawny or little owl in the reserve? I am always really happy to answer questions about narrowboat life and you have asked a great one there. I haven't explored the North of the system yet, but I have covered most of the South and the Middle Levels, so out of those waterways, I would have to say that my absolute favourite is The Cam Lodes+ River Great Ouse/ Chesterfield Canal/ Staffs and Worcester Canal, but there are so many beautiful waterways as well as those too. I have found the Leicester ring so charming too and I adore the city of Lincoln as a city stop. Oh my, I could ramble on all day about these places! Sorry!🤭 Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋

I have about 3 boxes of books here that I may drop off at the book swap ... Our local charity bookshop closed during lockdown sadly otherwise they would have gone there. I was not foar from there last week and knew nothing about it

I am always buying clothes and recycling my unused clothes in charity shops as well as using them for books. They are great resources for communities and also so good for the planet. Just 2 mins walk from my local canal is a nature reserve with Lesser Spotted Wood Peckers, as your coming to the Black Country hope to meet you and help you with local other places of interest. NBwakamatandoto spent months around and gave us some good report evan told us about a light house to be built canal side?

How is your bio fuel experiment going? Or did I miss an update on that? That would be nice to travel the cut with just solar and smelling of chips!😁
I will have to do an update soon, but the news is that it's going really well. I have had a second delivery. The heating and water system that we use is a Webasto and that works really well, if not better with HVO as it is a lot quieter and heats the water more quickly. We recently had an engine service and there was some sediment at the bottom but we think that was old diesel and we had mixed HVO with the diesel in our tank so I think we will only know after we have filled our tank up a few times with just HVO to remove the residue of any old fuels. I will say, there is probably less "zoom/umph" to the engine; it just feels quieter and like it has less initial acceleration, but I might be imagining that as it runs well. It is still too early to know if there are any long term issues and it is still too expensive. No chip smell either!😂 Hope this helps? Have a wonderful week, take care🌻🦋

When walking my dog this time year, walking boots only can be rough, muddy, I know the wardens, when i told them your interest in wildlife they too said they would willingly show you there wild life and would be happy to meet you. if you can contact natasha she has a contact no so i could send some photos
