I used to be put off wide beams because I thought you lost access to too much of the canal network, but really if you are willing to cross at rivers/tidal areas, you can cover most of the network in them. I haven't experienced it but I suspect a wide beam would feel more stable on a river than a narrowboat.

Wide beams are amazing. Comfortable and spacious. I like the entrance being the kitchen in the second one. I wonder if it’s more difficult to find residential moorings with wide beams.

I would love to buy a wide beam.
How much does it cost to run living on a wide beam canal boat.
I would have a permanent mooring where I could park our cars etc. just have weekend trips or the odd week trips but have a permanent base. Any advice would be very welcome. Thanks

What would be the “average price” or…say the median price of a wide beam boat and more importantly how do they compare in price to a flat of the same size. ( without considering that all manner of water crafts depreciate over time as opposed to the “appreciation” that real estate will produce over time.)

They are both stunning boats! But it seems to me they just make each area bigger rather than trying to get more in. They're the size of two narrowboats so why not get twice as much in there? Why is there not a couple of single cabins or one with bunks for kids? Still lovely though...

    • @alifenomadic

I thought the single bedroom boat was a much better design... better kitchen, bedroom, no tub in the bathroom and the living room looked very comfortable.with excellent placement of the stove. And you don't need two sinks.

  • @dallassukerkin6878

I can only say that lovely as these are, the price tags mean that, for me, I would be buying a house if I were slinging around nigh on £200k! I'm not throwing shade on the builders by any means, they have to make a profit on what is an expensive piece of kit in the first place. I am guessing they must sell them otherwise they wouldn't build them but my supposition would be their market are wealthy Londoners who are still not wealthy enough to deal with the Southern house prices.

    • @alifenomadic
      @alifenomadic  10 месяцев назад +2

They are a lot of money especially at the moment with the price of steel so high, I think people buy them because they want to be near/on water and have an alternative lifestyle without giving up to much space ☺️

There are circumstances where having a property is inappropriate
People have individual circumstances that mean having a traceable property is not a viable domestic situation.
No doubt that a property is the ideal solution especially from a capital gain perspective.
But if you wish to be effectively untraceable then a boat tends to be the best solution.
Bear in mind it take 6 years for CCJ to be Statute Barred from recovery and 12 years if mortgage debt.
I believe it is 20 years for HMRC debt.
So all good reasons not to have a property where charges can be applied to title deeds.
Rarely will anyone be able to detect where you are or that you have a boat
Just use a friend who gas a property and pretend to be lodgers
Everything will go to that address but you will never be in!
So as you can see not everyone is able to have a property even though one is affordable.
Life can be complicated at times and you have to do things you wouldn't normally expect to have to do.
That being said the prospect of life on a widebeam boat is not an unattractive proposition.
I've lived in a house and the only knew about 3 neighbours.
By all accounts the boating community is a genuine thing and can apparently be very amenable
You should get to know more than 3 people!
Widebeam CC does seem to restrict where you can go but still enables you to CC.
Not a problem if you have no location based work commitments
Boating to me makes for a far more interesting retirement.
So personally I am looking forward to my enforced boating life!!

@@dallassukerkin6878 Yes a sort of a medieval Sanctuary that churches were used as.
You couldn't be touched at a church
But yes there are all sorts of angles in this life.
We all tend to consider not unaturally things through our own perspectives.
Life though can be complicated resulting in things occurring that you wouldn't necessarily have considered.
To me boating is a bit like the gypsy lifestyle.
Consequently nobody tends to know who who are or where you are!
I was watching a vlog where it seems if you have a wide beam that as part of the CRT boat licence you have to display your name etc at both ends of the boat.
Not sure if I misheard that.
      But personally I won't comply!

I'd like to know if you people are allergic when it comes to discussing technical things. Apart from saying where the engine is, not one word spoken about what the engine is, amount of fuel, batteries etc, etc,. If you cannot discuss those things, you shouldn't be doing it,
