- Well, that ended differently than expected. We headed up to the Sierras, it wasn't supposed to snow...guess what? It snowed.

Glad y’all are safe. In all my decades of off road, for work and play, military, etc, just living outdoors. It’s the hard days, the ruff days, the SHTF days, that stories and memories are made of. You have really epic days and days like this. Nobody tells stories of average days to their grand kids
Correct. Couldn’t agree more.
Reminds me of my son when he was a teenager. He's gown and moved out. But he has my most cherished memories. Being a Dad something has its rewards.
This was a legit adventure. Your son is an excellent driver. Glad you guys are ok.
“I don’t know why my truck always smells like campfire.”
(Cut to: smoke casually blows into the open windows of the truck.) 😂
The 80 proves why it always get's an A+. Glad you n your boy are ol right; and, great work getting out dad!
I love seeing the kids driving. You are a good dad.
Thank you sir.
I almost rolled my Jeep last year, when backing up on a tight trail without lookign back. I almost lost my Jeep its documented on my channel. I know how you felt when you hit that boulder. Gladly you are okey and the vehicle is not damaged
And THAT is why I drive an 80 series. Glad to see that you are both safe.
That was some great driving by Miguel... before the snow AND through the snow. And snow changes EVERYTHING! It can get scarey when STUFF goes sideways, and scarier when its in the snow. Great job.
Glad you’re all ok, Blue too! Keeping a level and focused approach helped out a lot in this case. Work the problem, don’t let the problem work you! Safe travels Mike!
That ARB bull bar was a god send. Saved your lower front end. It kept your steering apparatus from being bent and thus stranded. A OEM bumper would have been kaput.
Glory to the ARB front bumper! Good job getting out of there. An adventure you won't forget.
Love the "He's used to it"......Every son knows their dad and his "ways"!! Glad to se Miguel and you out and about......
Glad you’re safe and nothing catastrophic happened. Sounds like another amazing trip with the 80 series and memories made with Miguel. 🤙🤙
You sound so disappointed that there was no major damage to your vehicle. Sounds to me your build was good and the front bumper paid for itself. Now you and your son have a story to share for the rest of your lives. Thanks for sharing.
This might be my favorite video of all! Truly an adventure. Glad it all worked out.
“Glory to the 80 Series“. I need that on a bumper sticker. 😂 I feel pretty good now about my 80 with the same bumper!
Great video !! It shows the importance of a communication system. And, even though you are prepared, stuff still happens. Glad you guys made it out ok !!
That'll buff right out...no really, this time it will.
Glad everything worked out and you got home safe.
He's growing so fast! Looks so much like his mama! Thanks for sharing as always!
Glad you are both ok. Handled well. Great example to Miguel for a tough situation. Thanks
That was a very fun video, glad yall are safe, and Miguel is driving like a boss!
Glad it worked out and what a great experience to share with your son! Story for life and on video
Glad you and and Miguel made it out unscathed. He did great getting out of there, and this is surely something neither of you will ever forget! 👍Proud dad moment no doubt.
Absolutely!
Glad you guys are safe, glad the truck is good. Thanks for showing us your adventures.
Thank you Michael and Miguel I needed this this morning!
EPIC!! Similar scenario with a hike in The Smokey's...glad y'all are safe. Solid father and son memories were made here.
4:09 That makes good sense, I have been driving off road two footed as I mostly learned on rigs with an open diff and a little brake with the gas tends to help prevent wheel spin before there were electronics put in the rigs to have the brakes help with a flip of the switch.
Thank God y'all both are ok. Awesome video as always.
Love the adventure, regardless of the path. It is great seeing Miguel get some real experience on the trail, it will definitely make him a more responsible driver when back to so called "civilization". Certainly teaches what is like to feel the vehicle respond to your inputs. Glad the accident did not cause big damage, it just got some more trail scars to go along with the stories of your adventures.
Excellent video my friend! Heartwarming yet chilling and definitely an adventure. 😊
Woo that was a adventure.
Great driving from your boy excellent going, quality solid truck.
Nice one go steady
Sam
Glad to see and hear you ar both safe!!!
Hard to beat adventures like that. Father son moments and memories are what it’s all about
Wow! What a video. 100% agree about the two-footed driving on the trail! Glory to the 80 series!!
Thank you!
Best episode yet!! Glad you are ok!
You both drove like bosses. Well done, getting out of that hole, Michael! Even my dad would have been impressed, and he was NOT easy to impress, behind the wheel. Glad you guys are okay; that sudden stop really gets your full attention, doesn't it. I like your kid's attitude. He gets it.
As an adventuring father too this just warms the heart 😊
That's ARB for ya. Great vid, keep 'em coming.
Now that's adventure! I can't imagine filming a nerve racking situation. Great rig and glad you made it out
One of my favorite spots to camp at Slick Rock, right after the bridge along the River!
Hell yea! Memories!!! Keep it up you two!
Fantastic work, Mud and A/T tires can be horrible on ice but Muds float once you have them below 8psi. We ended up taking the safari rack off due to safety concerns with rolling over etc. Miguel is a boss behind the wheel! 🥰✊🏾
80's are so overbuild.. I can't believe what I put my 62 series through, its bullet proof and the 80's is build a lot tougher than those. Glad ya'll are save and sound!
Great adventure! Glad you guys made it safe.
That’s why I run an ARB bull bar as well. Those things are tough as hell. Your video LONG ago is what made me pull the trigger. Also the 80 is a tank! What a rig to just lock up and back out of a full on crash and carry on.
Well its a Toyota” lets go places” i own a rav 4 2020 model and love it! Do injoy and be safe out there!
NOAA zone area forecast. Everyone should learn how to use it, and also expect the worst from a forecast in a mountain range. As someone who has plowed snow on a mountain pass, weird thing like a Doppler radar being pointed/tilted at an off angle can make thing off and not catch certain elevations. Nothing like calling NOAA and asking when the snow will stop and they ask... "It"s, snowing, how much and for how long?". At least they fixed that radar. But differant valley and ridges within a mountain range can change things drastically.
Watching this makes me miss my ‘93 80! And that trail has gotten much tougher over the years. I took my 80, totally stock with all-season tires, from the Lake Alpine end back in ‘95 or ‘96 with no problems. And we used to do the north half from the lake down to the first slick rock section and back many times.
Wow. Talk about an adventure! We're you scared to tell Cory? (ha ha)
Haha! She was involved via Garmin in Reach.
didn't you violate that Golden rule...don't go alone! Glad it all worked out though and as always good video
What an amazing video. I didn’t believe nothing happened to the mighty 80! Wow. I thought for sure there would be more damage. I’m so glad both of you are safe. God bless and happy holidays.
Glad to see everyone safe! What a tight spot to be in 😬
Glad you guys are okay!!!
I've said it once, I'll say it again. I own a 4Runner, but hands down the 80 series is the best 4x4 Toyota. They're just an LS swap away from perfection.
It's not an "Adventure" unless something goes bad. Glad you guys are good to go.
I can’t believe it. Is the 80 made of vibranium?
Miguel did a great job - under very difficult conditions. Perspective: maybe school isn’t as a bad as it seemed the day before.
Wow. Great vid.
Close call. Snow is no joke. I’ve lived in CO since 1991 and snow still kicks my ass lol. You handled it well and got out 👍🤣
Great video, love the bonanza music…… 🤪✌️
Experienced the same "anomaly" with my Garmin on that MDLT run this fall. Clear skies and it still took 3 - 6 hours for some messages to get through. Beginning to have doubts about the inReach ability to make timely connections. Glad you both made it out with minimal damage.
Too bad you guys had to bug out. Snow camping is some of the absolute best camping you can do. Guess us Canadians are just tougher like that :P Just razzin ya. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us!
Oh man, couldn't agree more about what you said during your fire pit scene.
Great video. Glad everyone is safe. The 80 and the ARB bumper are obviously indestructible. You need to follow up with a second video after you look at the 80 thoroughly.
Looked like fun - glad you made it out okay
Glad you guys are ok.
Wow, glad you made it out. Nice self extraction, well done. Let me know if you need any help repositioning your rack. 👍
Nice adventure and minimal damage!
Tis but a scratch! But yeah, all of your motor mounts and other drivetrain bushings are not long for this world. Wearable items be wearing
I love that cookbook!
Insane! Glad y’all are safe
Thank goodness you guys are okay and that the rig appears to be in fine shape.
Imagine if you had heavy boxes or filled gerry cans on the roof....
Good tires make for good times..great driving.
A good vid on what to do when the weather starts to go bad, stay put or go now!! Is the Warn winch still down? Couldn't tell if you tried to use it.
wow! gotta love the Sierras🤠
There has never been a better testimonial for getting an ARB bumper.
Epic driving!
Adventure is necessary and that was one hell of an adventure. Glad you guys are ok and the ol’ 80 series just has some new trail mods. I don’t think you could have planned a better adventure.
Defiantly get the steering rack checked and maybe the frame horns that the bumper attaches to. Also check the mounting bolts for the bumper. Maybe replace the bumper mounting bolts. But it wasn't hard enough to set off the air bad g-force sensor so that's good.
That one surprises me. Maybe it doesn’t work :)
JFYI: FJ80s don't have racks....they're recirculating ball with a regular steering box and tie rod/draglink set up.
Glad to see you guys and the vehicle are fine
So grateful!
Awesome driving Miguel! Everything about this episode was excellent! The 80’s series is an absolute beast….😮 And those ARB bumpers are absolutely worth their weight in gold. 👌
Thank goodness your rack had that give engineered into it too. Makes me think and wonder what mine would do if ever in a wreck like that and I fear with a RTT and everything else I have up top awning, hi lift, recovery boards, etc, mine would rip from the mounting points. 😬. Makes me think having some sort of extremely secure sliding system built into the side rails is a really really good idea! 🤔
Fwiw it’s a Gobi rack!
Dude! 😮 glad you’re all good. Miguel, don’t let your dad drive, ok? 😅
Good call on bugging out.
Well, I guess I made my mind up about getting the ARB bumper for my 4Runner!
🍻awesome getting out together
Wow I'm sold on ARB bumpers!
Super glad everyone is okay. I expect you will find out the 80 is twisted a bit when you look closer.
I would not be surprised
Great Video!
Thank you!
Glad you are safe! Glad to see that your Land Cruiser made it through.
Just a question on the tires that you run. I see that you use BFGoodrich KM3 mud terrain. Would it not be better to run a all-terrain with a three peak mountain snow rating? Do you travel with snow chains?
i am guessing that chunky steel bull bar adds some significant strength to the chasis in the front..... suspect the outcome may have been different with different front bar.
Great patience with Miguel, daddy-o. Kudos on the skill to get it unstuck after your off-trail excursion (crash means another party was involved) - seriously skillful driving. My understanding is that the TLC assembly plant was like no other. My guess is because of the military contracts would be Toyota's reasoning, but the design and build qualities of those era trucks feel handbuilt. The basic formula (wheelbase, weight distribution, etc.) has always been maintained and the trucks continue to drive incredibly off the grid. But that excursion extraction took some skill!
Testament to that ARB bumper
Thats why the land cruiser is legendary
The 80 is a beast!
Gotta get a set of snow rated all terrains for that snow, it would probably help a little!
You might want to go see if that poor bolder is ok. You hit it pretty hard.😉
looks like that big steel bumper did its job...
still might want to get a frame and body guy to check the frame
Thank you… I get frustrated over dumb stuff
It's probably already been said, but never second guess the money you spent on your front bumper.
Happy to see you are both safe
. Someone's looking out for you..
Corrie must have loved seeing that. 😳
