Where's the Nylon washers. Metal pins, on metal washers on chrome hoops. Not for me. A kit half the price came with twice as much stuff. There was no mention of a hardware pack, or do the stands come stock standard?
I can’t justify spending more money for drums that are supposed to be “pro” that comes with much less drums then these to me these are more pro with the extra toms and the matching snare drum if you buy these you will be more happy because you have more options as far as Tom sounds this is why I’m never upgrading to a more expensive set because you get less
I just put on some remo coated emperors on my Tama superstar classic drums and wow I’m amazed of the sound of them I also have Toms tuned up just like these
Even tho I like even more open tuning,I can tell these would really sing tuned up higher. Really amazing quality sound for the price. At least as good as the vintage ones.
I have a tangerine burst SSC, and I love how versatile I can get with the setup. Currently running a 1-up, 2-down setup with the 12" as the 1 rack. I've wanted a kit with two floors for ages, and the SSC fits me like a glove.
What heads do you use? I played the stock heads last week At GC and was blown away by how good it sounded with the stock heads! There was resonance but a lot of attack it sounded so good even with earplugs and that I feel like I could play it for years and be happy. I may actually get the neo mod kit with the 20 by 10 inch bass drum. But I loved playing the kit with three tom-toms as well and standard BD.
Mister mix engineer, we drummers and potencial buyers love to listen the panoramic of the toms left to right from the drummer seat perspective; not the audience perspective. Thank you.
I reached out to Tama three times last fall about building my dream kit...they never got back to me. I had to go with another company that did respond to all my questions and put me at ease. I did however buy my kit through Sweetwater :)
I am in the process of having my Superstar Classic ordered! Gonna be going with the Indigo Burst once it's back in stock. I haven't even played it yet but after all the good things I've seen, I'm already more than happy with my choice. This will be my first drum kit and I'm happy to join team Tama!
Suggest getting decent heads for it. I’ve got the gloss garnet exotix. It looks amazing but sounded so much better with Evans G2’s on the toms and an EMAD 360 on the bass. If you do norhing else, just do the bass head - you’ll be amazed at the difference. Enjoy your Tama - I am!
I own the 7 piece superstar classic custom dark indigo burst. It's an awesome kit. If you know how to tune and use good heads this kit sounds Top of the line. The dark indigo burst is a beautiful finish. You just can't beat this kit for what all the qualities you get. Love Tama drums✌

I know I'm in the minority on this one , but,I love how the Tom's are mounted on the bass drum,I'd like to see the 13 inch Tom made more easily available than they seem to be these days.
I think, from all the semi pro maple kits available, Tama´s Superstar Classic is the best because: . It has a killer sound. Tama makes this kit at the same factory they make the Superstar Hybrid and the SLP Studio Maple (china) and i suspect they use the same wood. . It has beautiful finishes like the one in the video, and nice looking shell hardware. But what i like the most are those sweet retro styling t shape badges. It looks like you just restored a vintage Tama kit. . The 6.5 snare. No other pure maple semi pro kits offer this size that became kinda standard for pro drummers. I know, you always can upgrade your snare, but if you are shopping at this level, chances are you are counting with the included snare. If i´d be lucky to get one of these, it would be a 7 piece Dark Indigo Burst with clear emperors on the toms, controlled sound coated on the snare, powerstroke 4 coated on the bass drum and Meinl Pure Alloy or Paiste 2002 cymbals. The throne, a nice 6608 Gibraltar would do the trick. Thank you in advance Sweetwater (:D) BTW, the new set and lights looks awesome.
Hedu Soto I purchased the Superstar Classic 7 pc in Dark Indigo Burst about a year and a half ago (from Sweetwater, of course!) I love the way the drums look and sound! If you buy that kit, you won't regret it! I've gotten tons of compliments on it, starting with my bandmates! In fact, our bass player talked me into the D.I.B. finish. I didn't like it on the website at first, but it is GORGEOUS in person! (I should get a kickback from Sweetwater for this!!!) LOL
It’s amazing to me the quality and value that you can get out of kits these days. It’s a long way from the “Percussion Plus” that I started on. Any of these kits sound totally pro in comparison. I think the turning point in quality and value was when DW released the Pacific CX/MX/LX drums. They blew anything else in their price range out of the water and all of the other manufacturers had to up their game big time to be able to compete. I was working in a music store at the time and saw all of the manufacturers releasing all maple and all birch kits in a range that was usually cheap poplar and mahogany woods. Awesome time to be a drummer for sure.
j s Yep exactly. I talked with the DW rep on many occasions (I worked in a large local music store for 16 years) and he told me that the maple that they used for the Pacific CX/MX/LX drums was exactly the same maple that they used in their custom kits. He said a freight truck would deliver maple to the DW factory, offload half the truck or so at DW, then would drive down to the Pacific factory in Mexico and drop off the rest. Only difference was the cheaper hardware and attention to detail. If you put a little elbow grease into those pacific kits and also put good heads on them you can make them sound amazing.
j s Yea the QC was not nearly as good, but I’ve even seen surprising QC issues on the custom DW stuff. I had a custom kit made by them for me in 2002 that had some rough bearing edges and an out of round floor Tom. This was pretty close to the time when they started making their own shells and I think there were a small amount of known issues with the earlier shells that they made. I do have a newer Performance kit and the quality on it is incredible. To me it corrected two of the things I didn’t like on my earlier DW Kit. I much prefer the smaller lugs on the Performance kit and I also like the straight shells with no reinforcement rings but both of those are just a preference thing. The newer Stage Custom kits are really nice and most manufacturers have upped their game a ton. Mapex, Tama, Pearl, etc have released some really nice sounding kits in those price ranges now. I think the differences in sound (QC is a different story) between high end and mid/lower range kits is now a lot less. With good heads you can make, for example, one of these superstar kits sound incredible. I’ve owned Starclassic kits in the past and while the QC on the Japanese Starclassic kits I owned were fantastic and way above these superstar kits I would have no issue taking a superstar kit into the studio or to a gig with some good heads.
j s Starclassic Maple kits are amazing drums. I just sold a Starclassic Performer Birch Kit recently that I owned for a while and it was awesome. I have a few different kits now but when I worked at the store I went through a bunch of different kits. Currently I have a DW Performance, a Pork Pie Custom, a SJC Custom, and a Gretsch Renown.
@@kevinb8527 actually these superstars sound pro I have a set of these and the way I tune them they sound like your “high end” drums the sound of a drum is mostly the heads wood plays a small part in the sound your buying into the drum hype that the star classics “sound better then the superstars “ I don’t need another drumset because I’m happy with these

My first drum kit that I still have is a Tama starclassic performer all Birch shells, so I do love Tama. I already have all the Tama hardware and Iron Cobra pedals I use with my DW kit I currently use.
I'm so surprised at the amount of drum designs, finished and on the floor or out back of the shop that DON'T have Nylon washers on the tuning pins. Granted they have rubber protection on the bass drum claws but that's it. A $5 investment for all the drums on a kit for every lugs tuning pin to have Gibraltar Nylon Washers. Stainless steel pins with stainless steel washers on your beautiful chrome or smoked black hoops, well, it should speak for itself. I see high price tag drums with less features than kits 1/4 or 1/3 of the price. Nylon washers should be a given on all kits these days. The drums tune so much better.
