    Also worth noting that kick pads absolutely change the sound of the drum's attack. Add in variations of beater head materials (felt, wood, plastic), and size and shape of beater heads, different muffling techniques and materials, and there are too many variations to account for in one video. Might make for some good ideas for more new videos for you guys!

    • @b.p.879
      @b.p.879 10 месяцев назад +3

      Well I think this comes in fairly handy considering a lot of people are using the kick pads on these heads, and this vid gives you a pretty close approximation of what you're gonna end up with. Since kick heads are so expensive, you almost have to have the protector-pads, to protect your investment! (lol)

    • @adamsteinbacher2629
      @adamsteinbacher2629 10 месяцев назад +2

      @@b.p.879 I agree! Heads are a huge investment. I personally love this video and hope it becomes a whole kick drum series. It's way too expensive to be able to experiment with different sounds using different head/beater/kick pad combinations.

    • @ArtOfDrumming
      @ArtOfDrumming  10 месяцев назад +6

      You're absolutely right. There is so much to talk about when it comes to kick drum sound and since those heads got super expensive we hope we an save you some money by simply demonstrating them as natural and realistic as possible.
      We also did a video before that's called "Ultimate Bass Drum Sound Guide" where we discussed different kick drum sizes, drumheads, muffling options, beaters etc. Might be worth checking out. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/QFWwD8uH5-Y/видео.htmlsi=FRAqJ7RQvV82MRhC

    12:33 They look exactly like Evans’ Emad’s! 😊 I really love those on my kick drums. The SMT heads sound a little too dampened in comparison but I might be wrong. They should do exactly the same thing in theory.

    From day one it’s been Aquarian Super Kick 2 and Evans EMAD as a close 2nd. Whichever I’m using, I match it for the reso and usually a wide open kick with no muffling. I tune both batters finger tight then maybe half a turn. Same for the reso except half a turn more. Killer sound. I don’t want my kick sounding fluffy / airy. I want maximum thump. I want my kick sitting lower than the bass guitar as far as frequencies go.

    Thanks for the great video! I played it "blindly", just listening to the audio while shopping for drum heads, and two skins sounded instantly recognizable: the CS and the PS3. My 22" kick is equipped with the former at the moment, and I'm waiting for it to break/wear out so I have an excuse for buying a fresh head. Damn, I hate that plastic mid-boost! Your video reminded me of how easy it is to get the perfect rock and metal bass drum sound ... Slap a PS3 on, put a little pillow inside the drum and you're good to go. Thanks again, keep it up!

    I was surprised i really liked the punch of the SMT coated Emperor. I am a bit out of the ordinary in my kick heads. At least for my main/rock kit i play Attack Orbit (swiss cheese) heads. I don't use any internal muffling. I hate the Controlled sound on a kick every time i hear them. Not sure why. But at low volume the Ambassador coated sounded sweet!! That may be my next head for my jazz kick (currently an Evans Calftone) which I think is pretty similar. But the Remo is probably a little lower priced. Great video. Lets see one like this on Evans.

    You should do a video on how a drumhead should fit to the shell. I have found remo heads do not fit my Ludwig drums. The only ones I have found that do are Aquarians.

    • @ArtOfDrumming
      @ArtOfDrumming  10 месяцев назад +2

      I don‘t know if you‘re aware of that but Remo offers their drum heads in a second version they call “classic fit“. Those are slightly bigger and are made especially for vintage drums that usually have slightly bigger shells
      Maybe try those as an option! :)

    • @goodtimejohnny8972
      @goodtimejohnny8972 10 месяцев назад +2

      @@ArtOfDrumming The drums were manufactured in the year 2000. Hardly vintage. I am the original owner. Well cared for drums that are not out of round. The maple classics don't have any kind of outer bearing edge cut. The remo heads are made for a round over bearing edge. So for my kit the head doesn't sit flat because of that. I would imagine if I tried their vintage series they probably wouldn't fit the hoops because my drums aren't vintage. Aquarian fits perfectly, tunes easily and has many offerings for different sounds. I'll be sticking with them. Pun intended. 😂 Peace.
