Just another thought, the scoober putt might be handy in a strong headwind, instead of the disc lifting up, like in a standard putt, it would force it down into the basket.
I truly believe Brodie is helping to evolve the sport. His high disc IQ (from ultimate) not only makes up for the lack of experience in disc golf but actually brings an interesting perspective into the game. Love what you've been doing bro.
@@BrodieSmith oh no doubt. I just don't think any of the top players even thought of it till you dropped that 70 foot beauty at waco. You're literally already changing the sport for the better and you've been playing 3 months... It's amazing to watch
This brings me right back to the old Brodie ultimate tutorials which got me started in ultimate. Now I play ultimate at college level and just started playing disc golf in pro division
This is by far the most relevant thing you've brought to the table. I tried it out after seeing you do it and it's actually a really practical shot to play.
Your tutorials are great I am a total newbie to DG I am 64 and have been throwing frisbees since I was 12 yrs old Your style and method of teaching works for me, so the more fundamentals of the game you teach the better for me Keep up the great tutorial videos!!!
This is really interesting because it's a throw that personifies the bridge between ultimate and DG, in the same way that Brodie has now come to personify that link. It's a concrete example of how a skill from ultimate can be super useful in a DG setting and it's been proven. I'm definitely going to be utilizing the scoober in situations like Brodie's describing and also have it as a tool for off-the fairway situations that call for creative scrambling.
Wow, I guess this shot came around after my ultimate playing days. I've been playing disc golf for a LONG TIME...when we used to call it "object golf" using a Frisbee (1980)...and I've never really gotten comfortable with the thumber or tomahawk, so I'm going to have to give this a try. Taking my portable basket to the back yard now. (Corona isolation....blah~!!) Anyway, my son and I have been watching you for quite a while now (he intro'd me to your videos) and I wondered if you were going to give disc golf a go. Glad to see that you have, although I'm totally jealous that you're starting out and playing with McBeth and company~!! Keep it coming~!
It’s crazy because I remember watching your how to scoober video back in the day. It got me hooked on throwing frisbees. Now I just started disc golf and instantly come here to find you are a disc golfer now lol. You literally have the best tutorials
Yesterday we witnessed (in tournament) why this shot will stick around, and why brodie smith will be, and is one of the most versatile disc golfers to date. Keep it up and good luck on the tournament brodie.
I loved the reasons and mental percentages you gave for when you like to throw the scoob, makes total sense and is definitely something I going to try to work into my game.
So I watched this video while at work yesterday, worked ALL day, then woke up and tried this in my back yard. Game. Changer. Thank you so much Brodie!! Very helpful to have this in the arsenal. Love and appreciate your vids!
Brodie, 6 month player, saw this video about 2 weeks ago. I never got a chance to practice it though. I played a mini run by a local group in burleson, and found myself in an untenable position on the #8 hole, in the middle of a bush, at about 25 feet, needing to save par. I remembered this video and said what the heck, only shot I have, and first time I ever tried it, hit the putt. Thank you for expanding my thought process when facing these situations!!
More tutorials... You do a great job of explaining the shot, and most particularly you do a top notch job of explaining when and where to use the shot. Thanks Brodie!!😊
Just wanted to say I’m excited for you being competitive in disc golf regardless of the experience you have in the sport and with the tons of discs. Been a fan of yours for years and seeing you make videos with Paul, as well as your own, on disc golf seems like a match made in heaven. Super talented in play and commentary. You guys play off each other so well. Love every video. Especially with Ben Askren. Keep it up man!! Love it!
Bro, I'm an old Ultimate guy who just started Disc Golf in late 2019. I was throwing the ol the Scoober all day on the disc golf course yesterday after every putt. Finally, I had a shot to win on hole 18 but there was a bush/tree between me and the basket (low ceiling) so I could not throw under. Went with the Scoober from about 28' over the tree and nailed it. That Utimate experience pays off! Thanks for sharing!
Brodie! I love throwing the scooter in ultimate but I never thought about implementing it into my disc golf game! Thanks for the tutorial! It was great!!
Hi Brodie, I watched you throw an amazing scoober to an elevated basket on hole 14 during round 1 of the 2023 USDGC. Your form and technique looked just like what you teach in this video. Thanks for the helpful tips!
Great commentary on the Scoober. As you came into that last putting situation, I would really have liked to see you take all 6 of those disks, and throw them, uncut, one after another. I don't expect you to make them all, but it would be a great way to reinforce the same stance, angle of release, wrist action, etc, all in a row. Better yet, throw 6 with Kelsey capturing from behind, then go pick them up, return to the same spot, and throw them with Kelsey getting you from the front. Finally, thanks for keeping the content coming!
I was just in the back yard trying to figure out the scoober. Come inside pull up RUclips and low and behold Brodie has a new video up explaining the scoober. Sweet!
I started watching probably around 7 years ago. You helped develop a love for ultimate for me, I switched to disc golf a few months before you moved the channel over, and I’ve got to admit this is my favorite content you’ve ever made. (I know it’s not everyone’s favorite but I LOVE it)
I understood what your scoober was for the first time I saw you use it. I'm glad you demonstrated it and will give it a shot, but I sure didn't need convincing that it's useful. That was obvious from the start. Not only has your course management gotten better in the last several months, now you're showing the old dogs some new tricks!
Watched your video yesterday and went to the field to practice the scoober shot. I played a round today and was in a situation of '' This is a Scoober moment". Played the scoober and hit the chains and had a tap-in. Ty so much for this awesome tutorial.
Thanks for this video. I'm new to disc golf. Most of the courses in my area are highly wooded. This throw helps me out a bunch for getting through the trees. Love your channel. Learning lots.
I watched your last scoober tutorial for UF and this one is a 1000 times better. Keep up the hard work. You should do a video where you teach a beginer like Kelsey how to do it.
I never knew this throw existed. I’m pretty new to the sport and I can’t wait to practice this throw! I pride myself on my approach shots and I’m looking forward to adding this to my game. Thank you so much for sharing! Shout out to your camera girl capturing the magic.
Keep the disc golf content coming! Love it. You and this sport are made for each other. The Scoober is a viable shot with a death putt. Practice mode engaged.
That's awesome. An almost completely new throw that has real utility multiple times a round. Thanks for sharing this, Brodie. My go-to in that 50-foot left-to-right putt situation has been a patent-pending annie putt. It's so cool to suddenly have another, much more controllable, way to do that. And putts on baskets at the top of hills with the scoober look way easier.
It would have been very nice to know this for the last 22 years that I've been playing. Well I'm glad to learn this technique and can't wait to try it! Thanks for the video and keep up the great videos.
Brodie, I was finishing up a course yesterday and I didnt really have any sort of viable shot. Then I remembered watching you and Paul use it in a putting video and I totally used it for the first time and made a sweet layup with it. Hope you feel better my guy
Went out to test the scoober out today, was not disappointed, I noticed a huge improvement in my approaches, and got a few longer putts almost in for a birdie, this throw is definetly one I will keep in my toolkit and keep practicing and improving on. Thousand thanks for the tutorial Brodie. 💙 Broke my personal record on the course I went to on my second round over. Suopelto disc golf park.
Awesome seeing your Ultimate experience and variety of throws being incorporated into disc golf. I firmly believe that many of your throws will start to find success for you, which will help others feel confident in using them. We can't worry about looking weird or unconventional as the most important thing is to improve the sport. The beauty of the Scoober is that it is highly repeatable in stressful situations due to minimal movements.
Newbie here. Watched this video just before a round and needed to use the scoober -I was below the basket sloping terrain in bushes and other side of basket slope down and trees. I didn’t make the basket, BUT it landed flat within inches. Felt great to use this tool successfully to end the round!
Thanks Brodie for another great video! Played a round today and had an opportunity to throw a scoober. I came up a little short, but hadn't had a chance to watch this video yet. Now I'm ready to get back out there to try it more!! Great work. Let's sling some discs!!
I've used that "spike scoober" shot when I was waist deep in brush so I couldn't get a clean reachback for a backhand hyzer but needed to get over bushes blocking the basket.
That was a decent video. I might go on a limb and say it was your best and most serious video. Which as someone who knows disc golf can appreciate. Thank you Kelsey for the camera work on all the videos,
Thanks, Brodie! New to the game and used this yesterday...I still suck but I like the Scoober cause of how it just dies and doesn't roll or skip! God bless!
Great video Brodie, I've thrown the disc upside down for years using a RHBH throw. It's super useful when needing to slide them under low hanging guardian trees to get to the basket or out of "the rough".
Really love this tutorials. You are good at explaining, it's winter where I'm at so no frisbee yet, but I'll try that scoober when snow's melting and wind is calming down :D Appreciate your content Brodie :D
Thinking different and out side the box Brodie keep it up. I’d like to see ya as a caddy for the different views and lines. Keep it up. Keep Slanging those disc!!!
I had a blind 45 footer a couple of days ago. Could of gone anhyzer but then remembered you doing a scoober. Wanted to try it out and accidentaly got it in on the first try. Now i am going to start practicing this. Seems like a good utility shot. Thanks Brodie !
Thanks so much I've been practicing this put from your old ultimate tutorial but this makes it easier. I think you've added a new shot to disc golf, never seen any other pro use this shot. I just think it might stay around awhile.
You could comment and enlighten me about how the wind affects it more or less than the normal put. What I can tell you about scoobers is DON'T THROW IT HOPING FOR IT TO STICK ON SNOW! Learned that one the hard way. Love the vid though👍.
Brodie, I really like this video and your willingness to try novel and different approaches. I think I often try to do a similar shot with a very lofted, "granny-shot" backhand when I'm hoping for a soft landing and wanting to almost "free-throw" the disc into the basket. I think your scoober putt may be a better way to approach these shots and look forward to practicing these in my backyard. Thanks for the content.
I've been throwing this shot for years it's a great utility shot especially for scrambling in the woods super controllable and accurate and it fits well in lines that you really cant get much arm movement such as in bushes or straddled out behind trees
I used this today! Had to throw a left to right shot around a corner. Was way too tucked in on the right to throw a forehand, and I could throw the scoober a lot lower and wider (safer) than a backhand anhyzer. I had also been curious about the difference between a scoober and a hammer, so thanks for explaining! This video was very helpful.
