Suggestion: Hi Brittany and Drew. You are doing an amazing job! I am a Master Gardener in Oregon, Washington, and Californina. When I saw you working so hard on reviving the fruit trees I saw the steep slope they are on. Whew! This is a big job, but I would do this if I were there, so I'm not telling you to do something I wouldn't do. If you climb up behind them and go back about three feet or so uphill, dig enough so that things are leveled out a bit. I would then work a bunch of compost into the soil. Next step is to dig a trech perhaps a foot wide and 6 inches or so deep making a ring around the uphill side of the trees. This will allow water to collect dispersing it into the soil not running off. This is a good thing to do around anything that you plant as it provides a reservior allowing the water to get down to the roots where it is needed and not running off, or evaporating. Great way of conserving water and making waterings less frequent. Also, a big thick coating of compost around the perimeters of the trees will also help with nutrion as well as holding the moisture in. It sounds a lot more difficult than it is. I wish I were there to help.:) Good choice on the clover. It is full of nitrogen for the soil. It attracks pollinators and beneficial bugs, is drought tolerant, and the root structor helps with errosion. I would even plant that around those fruit trees. Best of luck to you. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. I specialize in garden design and consult in troubleshooting and correcting problems. And because I'm a Master Gardener, it's all free. YAY! I can't charge and keep my certification which I love. I don't know if they have a Master Gardening program there in Portugal. It would be very beneficial for you both and you would be so good at it. You're doing a great job.

On a lot of the RUclips channels from Portugal they use a shade cloth! I noticed on one of the channels they have an add for “shade cloth clips” you can search on that term. They seem to work really well with the shade cloth by clipping it to a heavy wire that can be installed with poles to go above the vehicle. They also use them for shading the tomatoes and other plants that get burned in the hot Portugal sun. So if you do use the shade cloth check out the shade clips.

Gorgeous! Have you considered putting a layer of gravel at the bottom of the lagoon. That way, whenever you guys get in the water, you won't stir up all the soil at the bottom and the water will remain clear. I have had fish tanks all my life with live aquatic plants, and the way I have always prevented the substrate from clouding up the water is by adding a top layer of fine gravel. The same principle should apply to your lagoon. Great job guys! Love from Puerto Rico!

We LOVE being able to watch your journey and we're so amazed by the progress you're making. You mentioned something about asthma, and my husband said mulberry trees can sometimes cause of this. Apparently in Islamabad Pakistan, the city brought in a ton of mulberry trees for their landscaping development. Shortly after that, tons of people started seeing doctors for asthma. Eventually the court ordered the city to get rid of all of them and banned any future imports because of the asthma they drive. Might be worth checking to see if your proximity to these trees could be causing some of your problems. Stay safe & enjoy that awesome beach! ❤

Here in the US there have been many situations over the past years where in water that sits and gets over a certain temperature, a flesh eating bacteria has been found and swimmers have died. The water needs to be cool and running to keep the bacteria from forming. Have you done any research on this. In the past year a young boy died when he went into a local swimming hole I think it was in North Carolina and there have been reports in Florida! Please do some research on this!

I wonder if you could get some small river stones to line the bottom of your lagoon to cover the silt and make it more swimmable? You can probably also place the small stones all the way up the feeder stream coming down to the lagoon. That would clean the water and prevent a lot of the erosion and movement of silt down into the pool.
    Looks so lovely!
I also wondered, if you were interested in controlling the leaves falling into the water, if you could put those nets orchards use to prevent fruit from falling, to go under the trees right above the pool. I'm not sure how that would look, just a thought.
Your place is turning into such an amazing refuge and retreat. I'm excited to get to watch all of the incredible beauty and life you are infusing into this historic space. Wow!

Your lagoon is awesome... will be gorgeous over time. Just a thought: Even with the water flow -- inlet and outlet -- you might check bacteria levels from time to time. Or don't submerge your faces.

I haven’t read the comments… eucalyptus irritates my bronchial/asthma you might consider that while working on the trees💗

Do you guys have wild mullein growing out there? I've been into identifying wild plants lately and mullein is amazing for asthma! The tea you're drinking may even have some in it already! Congrats on the progress of your land! Hugs from California -Lana

Don’t know if you’re allowed to light charcoal briquettes, but if you can, put them around those stumps and let it burn!

Wow, all that muddy water from your BOMBSHELL, was not a good idea. Now you will have to use a bilge pump and you will have to suck up all that sediment from the bottom. Remember to a fine netting on the suction inlet side, not to pick up small stones that can damage your pump. No, No, those lovely young eucalyptus leaves will make all the essential oils you need for starting your own business up. Brilliant products can be made and for all sorts of health benefits medicinally. The essential oil that is extracted from eucalyptus leaves also has a powerful therapeutic properties. The main chemical compounds are eucalyptol and alpha-terpineol, making it an ideal oil to promote feelings of clear breathing and open airways and for creating a soothing massage experience. There is so many research studies done about these properties is mind blowing. Just to give you some of the key benefits like reducing earaches; reduce fever; fights infections; boosts mental clarity; relievers respiratory conditions; reduce pain and inflammation; aids in disinfecting house and clothes; serves as a remedy for skin, irritations and insect bites. Hope this helps. There is so much more.

How lovely. As always beautiful vlogg. Britney, you remind me so much about a young Mary Steenburgen, who was in Back to the Future III, both looks and voice. I guess you heard it before. And you are so theatrical person as well ❤

8:27 - Easy? It's not as simple as hammering a nail in the middle of each tree stump. In fact, doing just that won't kill the tree and you end up just wasting time, money (copper nails aren't cheap) and potentially destroying someone's saw blade in the future.

Prove me wrong. Not really understanding your pond becoming a swimming pool. Do ponds attract snakes? Does the water become a stagnant breeding ground? Perhaps a large wooden tub, nothing fancy, with cool clean water just to dip in
I wouldn't invest time, energy and resources in a swimming pool when droughts are beginning to become the norm.

Back here in the UK when we bought a house it had ivy growing up the front which we didn't want because it damages the brickwork so I tore it all down and was advised by someone to use a copper nail hammered into the root. I was skeptical, expecting to forever having to cut it back but the copper nail worked and killed it off completely.

You need to use Horticulture Vinegar on the trees and around them. 20-30% acid vinegar. Ask for it at your local hardware stores. Spray on tree trunks and around them at least 2-3 times a week until you see no more growth.

Hi guys, you should place more stones in front of the sand; otherwise, the rain will take all the sand into the lagoon, what would be great to avoid the mud, but you will need more sand....

If you are having allergies that mimic asthma, it may be because you are reacting to unfamiliar pollen. I had this happen when moving a long distance. I was advised to eat local honey to acclimate my system, and after a few months it worked.
