Cut some of the bigger logs, tie/nail together to make a wider stream crossing bridge. Lay sheets of unwanted corrugated on the soil to stop weeds. Also keeps soil moist and act as cushion area. Then lays black underpad and Astro turf. Back fill widening areas with wood mulch.
Continue to add rocks to increase retaing wall areas/height/width. At the same time widening and deepening the pond/swim area. Build up the river banks and plant fruit/shade trees to minimize erosion. Gradually the oasis recreational areas with potted herbs, plants and flowers.
Maintain terraces and graded areas to slow or restrict water flow and erosion.
In 3 months the areas close to the house look more accessible and fire proof. Good job.

Please be aware that in Portugal even private property can be walked through by everyone, unless you have a minimum of 1,2m fence all around. Bellow that and can still be passable by law. Also no river bed is private so anyone can and must be able to pass along that. I no that in the US is quite different. ❤s from the Castelo Branco region in Portugal too.

What fun! Drew's idea of the astroturf was a perfect way to make the Newbys feel right at home. I know how proud John is of his large green expanse of lawn. As well, as he should be. And, you have so much to show - already - clearing the land was no easy feat. It was truly fun seeing some of my favorite RUclips people get together.
Your place is beautiful I discovered you guys when you visit the Newbys.
Just a suggestion may be you can make your stream a little deeper by 2 to 3 feet by digging it like what they did in The Kamp they also located in Portugal. They removed all the mud and other dirt in the bottom of their spring to make it cleaner and dipper.
Yes, they did do a lovely job.... perhaps next time we have Nelson over he can help us dig it a bit deeper, we were thinking the same ❤

Winter is the time to plant trees. You are right to wait until you are ready. It takes a full year of watering to get a tree settled in. Plant trees when you have the time to dedicate to their care.

I follow all of you, 3 Portugal adventurers, because you have the same common thing, that is, you all love nature, as I do. If I have someone to do these things with, I will do the same . I love watching all your videos because my memories are coming back. I remember my grandparents and their massive land where we had so much fun. Playing, planting, harvesting and taking care of farm animals, especially getting eggs and milking the cow. I love nature, animals and people like you who appreciate the creation of God. Hang a rag or something from that chain..I ran into one of those chains at night..no fun..you have done some amazing things with your blood , sweat, and tears..looking awesome!
Planting trees in November or so when it starts to get rainy is better anyway, cooler and wet but not so cold that they don't grow. They will get established so the next hot season won't overwhelm them.
A reflector on the chain from the gate would help visitors, not crash in when they visit you…
