Good Morning Tommy, Thanks for another great video breakdown. Quick question on the temperature overshoot, about how long does it take for the temperature to correct itself and settle back down? Thanks!
First off thanks for the super chat... That my friend is greatly appreciated!!! Id say 5-10 min or so. I have a rib battle happening now with the XT and Lone Star pellet and the xt is steady on the temp all morning!! Its an awesome pit!
Great questions and definitely the answers Tommy. That Masterbuild is wonderful seeing the great cooks that you have done Tommy. If I had the money I know that I would enjoy cooking on one. Have a wonderful weekend Tommy and CHEERS.
Second video I am watching. Good stuff just smoked a chuck roast on my vertical propane Masterbuilt smoker. Came out fantastic just made the typical stall mistake. Enjoy the tips and advice good videos bud 😊
Definitely a awesome review Tommy, a lot of questions answered! This is the real deal! Can’t wait for the Lone Star challenge, should be a good throw down! Have an awesome weekend! Cheers brother 🍻🔥🍻
Hey Tommy, great review I think you covered all the Bases. my brother is in the market for a new grill. Hopefully he gets this one as I’d love to play around with it.. Hope all is well and will see you in the next one🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍
Someone said their 800 only lasted 2 years. I bought my 1050 around christmas of 2018 and it's still going strong. I just got the firebox and manifold from LSS, but other then that it's been a good machine.
Thanks for this video. It was very informative. I have a pellet grill (Traeger) that I enjoy using, but have always liked grilling/smoking with charcoal. Would love to have something that works like a pellet grill but gives you that charcoal flavor. This Masterbuilt looks like it may check off those boxes.
I’ve had the 1050 for many years now. Great grill, but between heavy use, a cross country move with horrible movers and a 3-1/2” hail storm this grill has taken a beating! It still works, but somewhere along the line I have lost Wi-Fi control. Would I buy it again? Yes, but then I start looking at the XT, but now you’re getting into commercial charcoal grill territory, such as a Yoder. Of course, grills like that is commercial grade ridiculously heavy duty metal for a grill that would be expected to last a lifetime. That would be my dilemma. Would I stick with an XT or double/ triple up and buy Yoder?
I have the 800 that I bought in 2021 and the actuators are now failing me. I want to compare this to the camp chef woodwind pro. Both around the same price.
I've had mine for 4 yrs. The hopper metal in the chute is bowed out and crumbling. Prob 100+ cooks easy. Can we change the hopper inside metal plates? If so. Where can we get em. Also I just picked up a brand new 560 for 250$ my 2nd. Best smoker ever, as I have 4!
The water tank is heat storage. It's soaking it up before reaching the probe. Use Purple Power to clean mine, no scrubbing. Spray, wait 5-10 minutes and rinse... done! Thanks Tommy
Honestly, I used it a couple times and noticed it took longer to build the bark. That the inside of my smoker was showing more suit buildup and needed cleaned earlier than before. The container for water is still their, just empty and my cooks seem to be a little quicker. I spritz with water and vinegar occasionally.. that tells me the heats to hot, to fast. So lower the temp 10° and keep going.
Will, I put the meat on a piece of tinfoil, season it and then wrap it up with the foil for 15 minutes. When the smoker is ready, put your meat down, place the foil under the meat (one level down) to catch drippings after folding it to just a little bigger than the actual piece of meat. I spritz the surface around 165°, to slow the bark while building the internal temp. A couple spritz's later, were at 175-180°, bark is set, wrap it and increase smoker temo to finish the meat. At probe tender (205'ish) pull the meat AND rest. Works for anything but chicken.. pork shoulder, brisket, ribs, pastrami and of course, Tommy's favorite.. chuck roast cooked like a brisket!
@ThegalleryBBQ I saw I review from the XT on Toptenrewiews "My biggest issue with this grill and smoker is how much ash it created-and not in the ash bucket where I would have hoped all of it would have gone. The grates were covered in ash after every cooking session. I’d have to clean it off before using the grill again. However, the grates would then get covered completely in ash as soon as I started the grill. Even as I cooked, ash continued to cover the grates. I found myself having to constantly clean ash off the grates before I cooked, as I cooked, and after I cooked. It’s likely that my food was covered in a fine layer of ash too. can you give me your thoughts on that?
Great video Tommy. Do you feel like the XT holds the smoke better than the 1st gen MB? I feel that the gap in the back is a little to big and let's out a lot of smoke.
How about a 1050 with all the LSS mods and a fireboard pro 2 vs the XT? Was gonna pull the trigger on a Frankengrill but then saw the XT launched. My main concern is the MB software and panel. My 560 panel is junk and the app has been pretty underwhelming.
To be fair, ive not used that camp chef woodwind pro. That said. I know a few people that have stopped using it. Double that said, 10000% I'd take the XT 7 days a week, 365 days a year!
What are the actual dimensions of the hopper on these things? 8x10 or so? Does that firebrick around the burn chamber sticking out cause any kind of log jams? Seems like it'd be a problem
Luke is not working on any mods for the XT, I asked him myself, I suppose that's a good thing as there isn't anything that can be heavily improved upon meaning the designers have watched all the yt vid and listened to what consumers are saying. That said, I can see someie coming out with larger racks instead of those single ones. I guess they wanna take lss out of business :)
Everyone near me (East PA0 is out of the XT and don't know when it may be back. Masterbuilt also is out. Any insights as to when aai might be able to get one? Thanks. It was a great video!
So the XT is a upgraded 1050 with mods.and more space then you need. You cant grow space..Wait for a sale and go for it no brainer...TYVM for all you do. Hug molly for me
Where could you go for 1500.... Ive got a lone star pellet vs the XT rib battle happening now. But that Lone star goes for double. Other then that. I can think of nothing else if you like real wood/charcoal flavor.
If you can only get 4 to 6 years out of the grill. I would spend the extra to get a lone star grillz pellet/chip smoker. I won't waste my money on a short lived grill.
I don’t think the extra 200 sq inches is worth double the price! I’d rather get the Pitboss 1600 for 800 dollars! Almost half the price and still an extra 400 sq inch’s larger!

Glad to see a review from someone that knows the old model as well. Also just FYI the switch on the hopper lid is in the back between to hinges.
Figured that after the release... Cheers

Excellent review, Tonmy! This pit does seem better than its predecessors. 👍

Great vid Tommy bought and been using my 800 every week after watching your vids , thinking of upgrading to the XT after this year ... ty
Its worth the upgrade if you can swing it...
Great review! I really like my 560 but would like to upgrade someday 👍😎

How do I get one of the masterbuilt gravity XT???

Good Evening Tommy, thanks for the in depth video. You have the best shades. Do you mind sharing where you got them?
most my shades are ray ban. Cheers
Tommy I spent 1700 buckaroos my fine friend; that’s a lot of scratch, but so far I dig it!
i hear ya brother. That said, you did well. She's one bad azz pit!
@@thegalleryBBQ so far I love it. I’m doing an 18 primer brisket next.

You have chosen wisely! Cheers
Nice review

Too bad they didnt include the auto ignite feature, especially at that price point. Definitely looking forward to your comparison video!
That would have been killer.

I have to give you credit, you wipe down after cleaning, I'm lazy and just let the parts sun dry. 😳😂 Nice review and Q&A! 🍻
😊 thank you
Tell your buddy Luke to fab up a tuning plate to tamp down the crazy hot spot on the left side of the grill.
He'll be stopping in soon for sure-.

Great review! I’m also seeing the water pan temp issues
Thanks-
Very good review Tommy you coved a lot of questions once my 1050 dies I think I will make this purchase thanks for all you do cheers👍🔥🍺
Would be nice if MB could make a "next gen" 800, taking the XT updates in a smaller size - I don't really need the real estate of the XT.
From what I hear, nothing in the works yet!
The water tank is heat storage. It's soaking it up before reaching the probe.
Use Purple Power to clean mine, no scrubbing. Spray, wait 5-10 minutes and rinse... done!

Do you think placing it in after it reaches temp will do? Or don’t bother with it at all?

Ok... Are you using Lump or Briquettes.. My guess is lump. That said. When you open the hood open it very slowely. Lump or Briq it'll help greatly.
But you have no issues with that?
I’m coming from an Traeger and was concerned about it before I going to buy one
@@rvankeulen1945 small issues. Certainly nothing that bothers me. Again. Lump is worst and open the hood slow.
Tommy is it possible to put a griddle on the XT for smash burgers?
@@rvankeulen1945 Let me work on that for an upcoming video. Stay tuned.
Ohhhh Scotty loves his taaaaaahomer
My man.... Where is Scotty??
I wonder if they could make a dual manfold design for the other grills
I don't think so as the design is different. So, not sure how that would work. Also, the cost factor would hurt the sales.
So I’m liking my xt
Its an awesome pit.
Thanks Tommy
Good first review
Can I run this controller off my low voltage power bank like I do on my 1050 ??
Or is it mains voltage only ?
Thanks
Hi David. Not sure on that.
Thanks, very informative. Do you think the price will come down in a year or so? The price of the 1050 never came down.

On the WWP you have to add wood every 45 mins for smoke flavor - on the XT you can run full splits of wood for multi hour cooks hands off.
What are the actual dimensions of the hopper on these things? 8x10 or so? Does that firebrick around the burn chamber sticking out cause any kind of log jams? Seems like it'd be a problem
