A lot of good information in this video! 👏👍🍻
Great video Tommy. You explained everything on that Masterbuild XT. Great information and tips.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Tommy .. my XT starts great with a paper towel and a little vegetable oil .. my only Con so far is the power cord it came loose on one of my cooks and kind of had me scratching my head. But now I check it every time
Great show…
Thanks Frank. For some reason mine took to long. Tried it a few times as thats how I started my gen1 masterbuilts. When i run through this box of starters, ill give it another go.,.
Very informative my guy!! Nice work as always
Appreciate it!
Thanks for the tips and tricks for I pulled the trigger on getting my Masterbuild XT! Cant wait!
your gonna love it...
I connected an inkbrd wired probe next to he manufacture one and the temps were within 8 degrees F of each other regardless of if I was smoking at 160 or 300f - that's pretty good in my opinion
it is good. That said there are lots of factors that drive your pit temp. Wind, outside temps and so forth. Thats the readon I always run an outside sourse. Cheers
Awesome tips on this beast! Loving the cooks and the performance! 🔥🔥Have a super weekend! Cheers brother 🍻
Thanks my man.
Awesome video! Thanks for the info!
Enjoy and thanks for watching
That's a lot of great information, Tommy!👍✌️
Thanks 👍
Good vid brother
Glad you enjoyed
As always very informative. Watched couple of Your videos now also subscribed. Waiting on my XT to arrive (expected in july). Can't wait.and hope to see more from You :)
Welcome aboard my friend and stay tuned to much more XT info. Iv got top 5 or so beginner mistakes coming soon.
@@thegalleryBBQ Cheers. Can't wait.
Can You tell me though how are the masterbuilt probes compared to chefstemp quad pro?
Are there any differences? I'm hoping You have unbiased opinion after using both.
I'm thinking like if xt already has good probes then is there a point in getting quad pro? I prefer to use one app not multiple devices if possible
Your observations about the 900 are certainly correct. I have been pretty good at estimating how much fuel I needed for whatever I was cooking. Can't imagine having half the hopper full of fuel at the end of a cook. As for grease management, I have cooked on the top rack and used aluminum pans underneath. I have no grease problem. Don't want to hijack the video, but I bought the 900 for a very specific purpose. It does the job.
The XT looks like you can do great things with it, and you have. To be honest, I never thought about buying the XT. Not sure why. .
Anyway, thanks for the video and your hard work.
Belated Happy 4th.
JT
JT my man.... Ain't nothing wrong with the food produced on that Tahoma 900. I just wished they would have nailed down that hopper so fuel was not at a loss. Cheers my brother and you keep on enjoying!
Oh man I love your T-shirt!
Ill have to make those for sale.
Don’t have the XT but just replaced by pellet grill with the masterbuilt 600, just did my first brisket in it and wow what a pit.
Heck yeah. That 600 is an amazing pit. Enjoy it and stay tuned for many more Masterbuilt tips, tricks and recipes.
The wood split method is the only way I run the XT and it works great.
Agreed.
Hey Tommy! Great video! How well do you think the control panel will hold up over the winter in freezing temperatures? We have ours under a cover, under a gazebo.
IIIIIId only be guessing but id hope pretty well.
Tommy I love my 560 but the control unit and power cord both crapped the bed. They are sending me new ones but what gives I bought it mid may this year.
It happens. Although it never happened to me and about 98% of other 560 owners. It definitely does happen. Hopufully it's smooth sailing from here on out!
Hey Tommy, I was planning to get a 1050 but I'm wondering if master built plans to do some of the upgraded found in the XT in to the 1050 or 800. Mainly I'm wondering about the issues with the switches ,the control panel and the firebox .
I don't think so but I guess one never knows.... That 1050 still rocks.
Hi Tommy, Great video. What is the lowest temp it will run at for holding meat / resting for long periods (keeping warm)? Thanks
I think it was 180f but not 100% sure.
Hey Tommy, glad to see the XT hacks. I’m really happy with the 1050, but I’m not always getting as much smoke as I’d like. I like the splits tip. Do you also put chunks in the hopper? Thanks for your advice, Alden
No... If you do splits in teh hopper keep it splits. That said, splits up top and chunks down in the ash catcher would be killer.
If you haven’t done so already, can you do a comparison between the Masterbuilt Gravity XT and 1050? I am stuck between the two of them. Thanks
The decision is easy, if you can afford the XT then get, the cooks each one produces wont be that different but the XT is built like a tank and will last you far longer, you get what you pay for with the XT. And that's quality of materials used.
Hi Brian. I kind of agree with Badman. While the 1050 is an amazing pit, the XT is build better, better meterails used, better disign. That said. They both will put out amazing food. You have to get what you can afford. 560/600/800/1050/XT.... All those pits are tops in it's class.
Any spicif questions. LMK gallerybbq@gmail.com
Hi mate, I was wondering with the flap/slid not closing properly is it just a bit of gunk in there and is it easy to get to and clean?
Not sure. One day ill have a look.
Hey Tommy great video as always and all MB owners can make use of the splits surrounded by charcoal briquettes method for producing offset like smoke flavor. If owners don't have easy access to splits like me you can get a piece of 4" PVC and put it down in the center of the hopper and fill it with wood chunks or even pack it with chips.I then pour charcoal all around the outside and then just pull the tube out leaving the chunks/chips perfectly stacked in the middle of the hopper surrounded by an even layer of charcoal. I actually have taken it to the next step that is really cool. I buy Lumberjack pellets for $10 a 20lb bag (1/2 the price of wood chunks) and spray the inside of the PVC tube with Wagu Tallow then fill it up about 3/4 full of pellets, add enough water to fill the tube up. The water expands the pellets to fill the tube and I just wait for everything to dry and slide the pellet "log" out and just set that in the center of the hopper surrounded by charcoal. It takes a little time and effort but the savings in $ and the consistent burn make it well worth it.The other thing I do is only use the amount of fuel I need for each cook so at the end I do a burn off with what little is left which eliminates any possibility of losing 1/2 a hopper of fuel due to air leaks, it burns off any crud on the grates for easy cleaning, it moves the grease to the drip pan and I always start each cook with fresh fuel. So instead of putting 16lbs of fuel in for a 4 hr cook I just put in 4-4 1/2lbs. If I'm cooking burgers hot and fast I just put in 2lbs. You get the point. Try it, you can always add more if needed but no broom stick needed doing it this way😉
another great vid Tommy. I was thinking about the no flare up, grease fires with the XT. Putting a slight engineering twist to it. The lack of grease fire at all is the design of the twin manifold that vents the smoke and heat right to the center of the grill. Since the vents are pumping smoke and and almost pure CO2/CO into that lower part of the grill, since most of the grease falls below the vents, it snuffs any grease flame ignition. Theres just not enough oxygen to the ignite the flame. I could be wrong, but it make sense to me. May be a design feature. I wonder if I could make a custom vent system like that for 560, which seems to be the worst for grease fires. That may be and opportunity for like LSS to make custom manifolds to do the same thing.
The lack of grease fire is defiently kudos to Masterbuilt. Cheers
Why did they get rid of the cast iron grates?
Not sure-
Such a great video as usual! Borja from Spain here! I am planing on buying this pit and just waiting for a while just to know if you find any important problems on it! I have one question you never talk about tho… why not using briquettes? Thanks Tommy!
I do use Briquettes... Unless im reading your question wrong.
You are right! I did my research and it looks like KingsFord makes briquettes! Not sure why I thought otherwise. We do not have that brand here but I will stick to briquettes anyway! BTW… how long can you cook with a full charge on briquettes on the XT? Thanks again!
@@borjalpze I'd guess around 10 hours give or take...
Ok, thank you so much!!!! Cheers and keep up the good work!!! No better bbq channel than your show!!!
It kind of disappoints me about relying on the controller to monitor temps. I have tested my 1050 and if I have it set to 250, the middle rack is right at 250. I do wish the lid had an analog thermometer.
Understood. Its so hit or miss with these controllers that i never rely on them.
My grease trap is much fuller than yours after 2 cooks - are you sure your XT is on a level surface, if not then raise the right hand wheels a cm or so, shove a bit of cardboard underneath two of the legs
100% level. My last 2 cooks were prolly more quicker grill type cooks with less grease. Cheers
