I’ve got a MB 560 and the control box is the only thing that has lasted and given no trouble at all with storing like you have asked about. Although the rest of the smoker’s interior is literally disintegrating into rust-dust after just less than 3 seasons of use. It has rotted from the inside out. But the electronics and controller are still trouble free😅

Can you do, or do you know a comparison between the 800 and the masterbuild 40 inch digital smoker? Mostly of course in what you can do with it? That digital smoker costs about half of this one (at least here in Europe).
Got mine 800 yesterday and when I was unboxing it I found out that it was damaged like someone had jumped on the grid around the charcoaltower. The box was undamaged so it must have been happened in the factory allready. I have seen these damages before on youtube, so it was no bad luck for me. It seems to be structural. Besides that, it works fine but I expect for these amount of money an undamaged grill.
How are these holding up? I'm hearing horror stories about rust problems not just MB but everything from China. Why don't they use cast aluminum for the lower barrel like weber does? I have 12 or 14 year old Weber Genesis and it'll never rust because it can't! Maybe I'll kust buy a Weber searwood also aluminum. What's your thoughts?
I keep mine out of the elements when it’s not in use, and I mostly use it to smoke (not high temp). I personally haven’t had issues with it rusting out, but I can tell you that material wise I could see where it could be an issue in certain situations.
@AndersonsSmokeShow Thanks! I don't plan on using any smoker for grilling or searing. But humidity is awful in northern NH in the summer. It would be under cover but not indoors so I'm concerned.
I need suggestions: I can’t seem to keep grill at a constant low temp. I’ll set it for 220 but it keeps going past 450. I don’t want to have to use the damper as the fan should be doing the temp regulating
I’m curious to see if you mod the 800 like you did the 560. I’m also curious of your long term opinion on the mods you did to the 560, if they were worth it or not. Keep the videos coming!
Wow that’s a tough one honestly…. I think I’d have to go with my Camp Chef pellet grill. I probably cook on it more than any of my others… it just runs great, clean and easy to operate too. Don’t get me wrong though, there isn’t a grill that I have that I don’t like… that’s probably why I have 13 🤣
Que3stion for the community. I have an 800 series, and the fan does not kick on so it never gets to temperature. One of the door sensors is malfunctioning. Any ideas on how to fix? I cannot find a customer service phone number, and my emails have not been responded to.
Great video ! Regarding the lowest temperature of 150f I can't find anyone else mentioning it and MB themselves is advertising 225f as the lowest possible, is this for real ? This would open a lot of new possibilities :)
I know an informercial when I see one. You should really talk about the build quality. A lot of users are complaining about rust, control boards and fans malfunctioning only a year in to it.
Hey quick question. Have you used the masterbuilt gravity in the winter, or do you know any one that have ans how it work. Also can you grill on that smoker,
Hello, Question. When I heat up my 800 series to tempperature such as 600 I have ash all over my grill grates. Also I just cleaned the inside of my grill and its full of ash as well. Alot of ash, why
Thanks a lot Andrew, thinking about purchasing a gravity fed charcoal grill Already have a Blackstone and my Traeger (Ironwood 885) pellet smoker, so griddle plate really isn’t necessary for me 560 model good model, looking to do occasionally grilling and some smoking on it here and there
With the flat plate grill pre season do you know if I have to oil or pre season the underside also? And do I have to swap out the manifold for the pre season or only when I cook with the grill plate?
Can set my UDS I made for under $200 patterned after the Gateway UDS that once set will hold temp. for 8 hours w/o intervention and provides that old fashion pit-cooked BBQ flavor. Too bad no one wants to learn the art of cooking true BBQ but would rather push a few buttons and walk away. This my friend is NOT true "cooked with heart and soul" BBQ!
Wipe your smoker out thoroughly ( after it’s cooled completely) with a sponge and cider vinegar, take out the racks , clean them accordingly, then burn the smoker off on a high heat for about 1-2 hours, this usually eliminates any fishy residue and prevents fishy tasting brisket or ribs.
They posted videos for years on how it works. You have a hopper full of charcoal, it burns from the bottom, and a fan blows through the coals and blows that heat into the smoker. The strength of the fan, which is controlled by the controller, is how it regulates temperature. It’s a very simple design.
I sure hope this video didn’t warrant a purchase of this pos for any of you. Most of these videos are influenced by Masterbuilt with free demos and promotions, etc. and Masterbuilt does a fine job of filtering any comments or negative posts. I have a 14 month old boat anchor of a 1050. First the switches, seals and temp controller will die, after your 1 year warranty is up you’ll notice that your firebox completely burned away. You’ll also learn from customer service that this is to be expected, but their research team has determined it would be years before this has happened, so you’re just SOL. I challenge any of you who have owned one of these longer than a few months and several cooks to let me know your unbiased experience.
For anyone who is buying a masterbuilt beware because I received one in a box that was totally destroyed and re-taped and yet I did not get any type of open box or damage discount. Then to top it off there is no telephone number to call and they force you to contact them online. This mean they can take up to a week or more to get back to you or even if you need a replacement part. If I could do it again I would buy a different brand or one that I can get at a store that is easily returnable
The Gravity series is total shit. I've had my grill for 6 months and so far have had to dismantle and clean it, replace 2 switches & a cord and the computer will not update or connect to my phone. The fan will randomly quit working. I've had emails to and from the company and demanded phone calls. I've gotten exactly 3 cooks out of it and have been embarrassed with guests waiting on food. IT IS A PIECE OF SHIT!!! Don't buy it.
Sorry that you’ve had a bad experience. I’ve got two different masterbuilt gravity series grills and haven’t had an issue with either one… I can’t speak to the customer service though as I’ve never had to use it.

Can you do, or do you know a comparison between the 800 and the masterbuild 40 inch digital smoker? Mostly of course in what you can do with it? That digital smoker costs about half of this one (at least here in Europe).
How about wood chunks? A few random pieces mixed in? I would imagine that work. Have you b tested that yet?
I mix them in randomly throughout the hopper but it try to front load some of it because the meat absorbs the smoke most at the beginning of the cook.
Glad a saw this before getting the new traeger
Were you looking at the Timberline XL? 😱
@@AndersonsSmokeShow yes
how do you turn it off?or do you haft to burn out all charcoal you put in?
You shut down the controller and close the dampers. This smothers out the fire leaving unburnt charcoal for the next cook
Great video!
Thanks!
Great video. Now I'm torn when more between this and the 980 lol.
Overall the masterbuilt has more to offer
I was wondering if you had one with straight wood?
I haven’t but I know that others have been doing that
Do you have to open the lid during initial burn off like in a pellet smoker to prevent it blowing up?
No because you get the fire going in the hopper first, and the hopper is open for the lighting process
Do you season the Plancha (griddle) at the same time, or do that seperately?
I did mine separately
Nicely done👍😊
Thanks!
Stupid question but how do you kill the heat source once you’re done cooking? If that whole hopper is full won’t it just keep burning?
When you shut it down you put the metal slides back in which chokes the fire out.
Another Great Video
Thanks!
I need suggestions: I can’t seem to keep grill at a constant low temp. I’ll set it for 220 but it keeps going past 450. I don’t want to have to use the damper as the fan should be doing the temp regulating
Approximately how much is the consumption of carbon in an hour of use
So do you find with the masterbuilt 800 that you are ever wanting a lower temperature than 225f?
Like the camp chef will go as low as 160f
Yoooooo can you grill a turkey I need a recipe for thanksgiving. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Oh I’ve got like 8 turkey videos on my channel!
@@AndersonsSmokeShow awesome I’ll check it out
I’m curious to see if you mod the 800 like you did the 560. I’m also curious of your long term opinion on the mods you did to the 560, if they were worth it or not. Keep the videos coming!
I may, I want to run this more before I consider mods.
I modded my 1050, it's still worth it.
So?? There’s supposed to be a 2nd gen 800 at lest from what I’ve read is or do you know anything about that??
As always brother great video 💯👍
To be honest I’m not sure…
Are you going to do the LSS mods on this one?
I probably will. I already talked with him and decided that I’d like to run it stock for a little while to show the true value of the mods
Do you find any issue with charcoal longevity on longer cooks? I’m guessing adding more charcoal isn’t an issue if you’re quick about it.
Love ur content.. Im about to buy a gravity smoker? Which one is better, value for money chargriller 980 or masterbuilt? Pls advice?
I’ve been a fan of both, but after running the MB800 I’d probably say I’m leaning that way
@@AndersonsSmokeShow thanks for your expert, kind reply.. May God bless you more 🙏
Hi bro,
How to turn off the fire with left over charcoal briquettes in the hopper.. Pls advice?
You turn the grill off and put the metal slides back in place…. This cuts off air to the fire and will choke the fire out.
@@AndersonsSmokeShow Thank you 👍
How does it hold up in the rain?
Honestly I keep mine in the garage when it’s not in use so I can’t answer that… I’m sure someone here in the comments could chime in though
Can’t imagine it would be an issue under a cover.
Does it actually sear well?
If you crank the temp up, it does a great job!
Good info man!
Thanks!
If you could only have one smoking grill, which would it be?
Wow that’s a tough one honestly…. I think I’d have to go with my Camp Chef pellet grill. I probably cook on it more than any of my others… it just runs great, clean and easy to operate too. Don’t get me wrong though, there isn’t a grill that I have that I don’t like… that’s probably why I have 13 🤣
Thanks man, much appreciated, and thanks for putting out all of these awesome videos! 👍
I just ordered a masterbuilt 800 and I'm so disapointed... it dont come with griddle.... I don't know why.... the model?
Where did you get it? I heard the Costco model doesn’t have the griddle.
@@AndersonsSmokeShow exactly Costco online.... I was looking for the griddle after assemble all the parts... This is so frustrating...
The Costco version of this comes without the griddle. You won't see that information in the store.
Yeah I honestly didn’t know that until someone commented on the subject about a month ago. It’s fooled a few people too
The Costco version (900 series) does come with a pizza maker tho
@@donaldpanjaitan4768 This year's offering does. When I posted, it did not. I really like the grill/smoker, though.
What's your thoughts versus the 980?
I’ll be doing a comparison between them soon
If I buy any accessories through your camp chef link do you still get commission? Or is it only on the grills?
I’ll get commission on anything sold!
@@AndersonsSmokeShow awesome! i need to pick some stuff up for my camp chef. Thanks for the videos man!
This is the final boss for dad's putting stuff together
🤣🤣
@@AndersonsSmokeShow I thought about returning it and grabbing the display unit🥴
@@Jdubrolltide123 just put mine together tonight not that fun
Que3stion for the community. I have an 800 series, and the fan does not kick on so it never gets to temperature. One of the door sensors is malfunctioning. Any ideas on how to fix? I cannot find a customer service phone number, and my emails have not been responded to.
What lighter are you using?
amzn.to/3wzE9pD
Are you still cooking on the Char-Griller 980? The new 800 seems to be your go-to rig...
I still cook on it, but I just got the MB800 so I am putting it through the paces.
Great video ! Regarding the lowest temperature of 150f I can't find anyone else mentioning it and MB themselves is advertising 225f as the lowest possible, is this for real ? This would open a lot of new possibilities :)
I swear that’s what mine can do, but now you’ve got me wondering… I’ll have to look when I get home
Yes, it will go that low. I own this pit for a year now and that's what I do to rest brisket at 155F until I'm ready to serve.
I know an informercial when I see one. You should really talk about the build quality. A lot of users are complaining about rust, control boards and fans malfunctioning only a year in to it.
Isn't that any grill? I bought a high quality broil king grill, even that stainless parts were rusting after a year
Hey quick question.
Have you used the masterbuilt gravity in the winter, or do you know any one that have ans how it work.
Also can you grill on that smoker,
I’ve used it in the cold. It does well but burns a little more charcoal to keep up.
And yes you can grill on it. Temps can be set to 700F
Hello, Question. When I heat up my 800 series to tempperature such as 600 I have ash all over my grill grates. Also I just cleaned the inside of my grill and its full of ash as well. Alot of ash, why
Thanks a lot Andrew, thinking about purchasing a gravity fed charcoal grill
Already have a Blackstone and my Traeger (Ironwood 885) pellet smoker, so griddle plate really isn’t necessary for me
560 model good model, looking to do occasionally grilling and some smoking on it here and there
I personally like the 800 better. You can get the 800 without the griddle at Costco and it’s slightly cheaper
Anyone's know if the 1050 temperature also goes down to 150 degrees?
Gotta see it up against the 980
That’ll be happening soon
Can you still cook without this being plugged in
No it has to be plugged in
7:34 SQUIRREL!
🤣
I just bought the 800 for $347.00.
Walmart? That’s a great deal!
Dude doesn't use a dedicated smoker for fish? I don't know about you but I don't like fish flavored ribs or brisket.
I clean my smoker. Dude.
All these "its so great" videos... but HOW does it work? Why does Masterbuilt not want to show HOW IT WORKS?
I just got a Masterbuilt ad. 😂
I'll never buy from masterbuilt you can't get to talk to any one on phone
You’re not the first person to tell me that
The Gravity series is total shit.
