  • Preventing weeds before they germinate in the Spring is the most efficient way to keep your yard looking its best later in the Spring and all throughout the summer.
In this video I explain the most common preventative products used in home lawns to stop weeds from sprouting - these products are safe for most grass types in both the warmer climates down south and the cooler climates up north.

In my yard, I'll be using a prodiamine product at a low app rate in the very early spring followed up by an organic corn gluten meal fertilizer product in the early summer to suppress most grassy weeds throughout the season. Then I'll spot-treat problem weeds including dandelion as needed throughout the year as typical residential-grade pre-emergents like prodiamine, pendamethalin, and dithiopyr won't stop everything from coming back.
► If you are looking to stop weeds in your lawn this year then you can see all the products I'll be using and including a few alternatives listed and outlined over on my website right here: turfmechanic.c...

► You can price out Scott's WeedEx for a pendamethalin option through this Amazon affiliate link: www.amazon.com...
► If you want to go the Dithiopyr route then your best bet is to look at Dimension over on DoMyOwn.com. Here is an affiliate link direct to the product. It's a bit pricey and it's something I won't be using but many homeowners choose to use it anyway: shrsl.com/2vkcw
► As mentioned above, none of these weed-prevention products will prevent dandelions from growing in your lawn. To learn more about preventing and stopping dandelion infestations see this post on my website: turfmechanic.c...
► In early Summer I'll be applying Concern Weed Prevention Plus to my lawn for an extra 4-6 weeks of weed stop packaged with slow-release organic fertilizer. The Concern uses corn gluten meal to prevent weeds but it will only work if your watering practices are dialed in. I'll go into more detail on how to do this in another video but you can price out this organic solution through this link: www.amazon.com...
Also, as mentioned in the video it is possible to germinate perennial ryegrass in fairly cold weather and it will grow quite fast giving you a small window of opportunity to seed in the early spring and then apply a late Spring pre-emergent to prevent summer weeds from germinating. See this video for demonstrations and commentary on getting grass to germinate at various soil temps: • Temperature & Speed of...
