Thanks so much! Currently struggling with a loopy look and nothing so far has helped. Wish you were closer - I'd haul both my machines to you for servicing in no time ... When an overlocker works properly it's a dream, if it doesn't you need a four-year apprenticeship to fix it yourself 😄
Finally!! I have been looking for something that described all the wonky ways tension issues and even knife adjustments can be off. I have a Brother serger I spent quite a number of years saving Amazon GCs to purchase, and this vid has done more than the instruction booklet has in describing how to fix tension issues. I’ve been quilting for 30 years, and sewed baby/kid clothes for my two when they were younger. As a weaver, I needed a serger to help with finishing rugs. Thank you so much for this vid! It’s getting saved to a playlist for sure! ❤
I was about to trow my serger ... I can't belive that just pulling the threat I fixed everything. I cleaned oiled I did everything! now I m going to return my engineering degree...
Thank you so much for this! 😍 I've been wracking my brain for ages on why my overlocking has been all loopy and it was just a bit of thread caught in the lower looper tension dial 😂
Very instructive video, thank you. When I started sewing there were a few similar issues with threading and thread tension. Additionally, thick fleece material on my overlocker required to maximise the cutting width. Thanks to your explanation I understand why. 🙏
Thank you so much for this extremely informative video. I have a Janome 604D overlocker (we call them that in Australia, too!) and now realise what my tension issue is. Condolences for the loss of your beautiful Molly. What a wonderful companion she was for you. Kind Regards.
My lower looper thread that is loose and loopy is what's going on with my overlocker and this has been helpful as I didn't know what are the upper or lower loops by looking at the mess on my fabric. 😂 Thanks ao much.
Thank you SO much for this video. I'm new to using my serger and I've been fighting with it for over an hour trying to figure it out. Cleaning out my tension disks and moving the blade has resulted in near perfect stitches. 🎉
Now this was quite the lesson 👏. I was very taken in and was pausing and replaying various parts. I recently got a serger and I am learning as I go. This is my favourite so far. Thank you for such a detailed video. ❤️
Thank you so much❤ This was THE best video! Firstly, I am in South Africa so we also call it an overlocker. I made two pairs of pants last week and my overlocker was perfect. Then I changed threads, using the knot method, and all went wrong. The bottom looper I figured out had snapped (and oh how I hate threading that one. About 10 tries later I had it at where I felt I covered all the bases. But it still would not work, it was absolutely messy. I tried changing the tensions but nothing helped. Then I noticed one of the knots did not go through the clamp, it stuck and broke, but it was a needle one and easy to thread. Then I still had the mess plus, when I let it run a bit of a tail, I noticed there is one thread that is just straight inbetween the mixed up tail. Plus I had the one looper hanging over the edge of the fabric. Now I have a good idea of where the start again and hopefully I will get it right tonight (which I assume is almost your morning). I absolutely enjoy your patience and the tone of your voice whilst explaining, will subscribe right away because you will definitely be my go-to person. Thank you.
Thanks for the super informative video. We just discovered a baby lock serger my wife was gifted maybe 25 years ago and unfortunately the manual is not in the box, your video was vey helpful in getting started.
Fantastic video watching GMT UK. You have just saved me having the same issue. Thank you so much. I am going to apply this advice. This should be a legacy video lst class teaching A+
Really helpful, I always struggle with the lower looper, not the threading as such as mine has the lever device to place the thread but where to place the tail once it’s through the looper eye. This isn’t shown on the machine or the manual. I have found it need to go over the top of the upper looper and I put the threads under the presser foot as you have shown. In the UK we too call them overlockers probably our Commonwealth roots.
Thank you for this video. I was given this same machine a few month ago, The front cover over the left needle tension is missing. Do you know if that can be replaced?
Thank you so much! There is so much that can go wrong on overlockers, and I am struggling to get mine sewing perfectly since I bought it second-hand. It's still not right, but I know a bit more now, thanks to your video.
This was very helpful. Can you tell me the difference between the 644D and the 604D. I inherited the 604D with no manual. I could only download the 644D. It is helpful but I do t know what is different t.
I have the same make over locker but only A 3 thread, has worked well until recently and it went loopy. Tried various tensions without success then found your video. First Decided to change spools for better quality thread and ended up having to re thread. it then immediately jammed up a couple of times even though I thoroughly checked the threading now it won’t sew at all do you think the jam would have put out the timing and do you think it’s worth getting fixed? Great video,
I have an old singer 14u34b that bought recently and it works like a charm but I’m still figuring out tension. I’ve never used a serger before so it’s been a fun learning experience for me. Any hints and suggestions?
Thank you for a very clear and pedagogical video! Great learning by a great teacher! Question, if I do want to have the knifes set to the smallest amount of seam, should I then increase on the tensions for the loopers so that they meet on the ridge?
Hi Abi I hope you still read your old posts. Im in a big jam. I was altering a neckline on some pjs. The fabric got chewed up in the footplate teeth. Couldn’t shift it so took the footplate off, didn’t have enough room so ended up taking the whole of the foot off! Then all the threads came undone. Thought I sorted it out put the footplate back together now its making a clanking noise and the needles are getting stuck help me please 🙏 ,
Thank you, thank you! I cried for 3 days trying to thread my overlocker lol. Now that I've watched your video I'm going to have another go 😅
I did it! All thanks to you.
Best serger demonstration ever!
Yes omg!!! We have been struggling for a month and you saved our serging lives!!

So calm. Your soothing voice and easy manner has convinced me that I can thread my serger after all. Thank you for the amount of detail you provided.

I have a 1999 Brother 4-thread differential feed serger, and this video makes it so much better to use. Thanks for your post.
Ah! It was the knife! Also, thank you for mentioning the removable foot. I hadn't known it was removable!
Thanks so very much for the details in explaining and showing what improperly threaded sergers do and how to fix the issues! Very excellent work!! ♡

So very helpful and it finally helped to resolve the problem I couldn't figure out.

Excellent video, thanks for sharing your knowledge with everyone. Much appreciated
I have leaned so much from you today about my overlocked many thanks

Thank you for very clear intructions about adjusting tension.

OMG, so helpful! Thank you!!! A couple of game changer items for me in this video.
This was the most helpful video on this topic I've found. Thank you!

If you do an internet search for manuals you can purchase a copy, they run about $20 on average and are in a pdf.

Thank you so much for your video. I was having this exact problem with my serger. Problem solved!! Trudy from Phoenix, AZ USA

I am a complete novice and have run into problems. Really good demonstration and clear views. Thanks so much for giving such good info.👍
Thanks again. You are a gem for a beginner like me👍🌻
Thank you so much I've always had a hard time threading now to try again
Thank you so much. I figured out what I did wrong on my machine. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge ❤
This saved my day. Thank you from 🇸🇪

Thank you so much for tutorial.. brilliant!!
Very helpful! Thank you very much Mark.
Thanks. My name is Gary :)
@@InStitches sorry for the mixup on your name.
@@ritaswenson1603 No problem :)
I thought the right looper thread had to be behind the left looper thread by the stitch finger? Does it not matter?
Thank you for a very clear and pedagogical video! Great learning by a great teacher! Question, if I do want to have the knifes set to the smallest amount of seam, should I then increase on the tensions for the loopers so that they meet on the ridge?
Yes, generally that will work. Thanks.
Thank you! Very helpful!
I have a problem with the right needle catching the looper eye?
Excellent video.
Very helpful, thanks very much. Cheers Mary
Thank you, I have learnt something.

I am guessing you are in NZ somewhere. Where is your business?
Yes, Motueka. My email address is in the video description. Thanks.
