You are an absolute angel! 6 Years ago I purchased this same overlocker from a small store and I attended their introductory to overlocking class. I struggled to produce a good seam, messing about with tension, differential etc etc and was told I just needed more practice. So I then paid to do an overlocker basics class at another store. I spent the whole 8 hours struggling to produce anything satisfactory. I felt distinct machine-snobbery - mine was the only machine in class that didn't cost the same as a good used car - and I got no help at all really. So I came home and sadly parked my overlocker on the table my husband made for it, covered it with the dust cover I made for it, and it has sat there ever since.😔 I've been sewing knits & finishing seams on my sewing machine. This video came up in my feed today and I decided that I was going to try one more time to master this machine, or sell it to someone who could. Then you got to the part about the R for rolled hem and S for standard and I screamed! 😲Not one of the 'experts' I consulted ever even mentioned that red lever, not one. I've never moved it because I didn't ever progress to rolled hems, I couldn't manage a regular hem. Well.......my machine came out of the factory with the red lever set at R!!! I've set it to S and put through a scrap and produced a perfect seam!!!! You saved my overlocker and taught me to love it again. Thank you soooo much. If I didn't live on the other end of the planet I'd drive over and give you the biggest hug you've ever received 🥰💞💓💕

I love your explanation of threading the lower looper. I always thought the lower looper was to be done first. Your tip of forming an x withe the loopers.

AMAZING instructions - only comment is to remember to put the knife back up. I broke a couple needles before realizing that that is where I went wrong. 5 years after this video was originally published, it taught me how to thread my machine! Thank you :)

I’am a 67 year old biker and it looks like I’am learning new tricks. My great-grandmother was a hatter, my grandmother a seamstress, my oldest sister made her own clothes. I always could always use a sewing machine to make seat covers (love a follow-foot machine) or repair my jeans. My sister passed last year and left me 5 sewing machines, one is a MyLock234. It looked pretty cool with 2 needles and 4 bobbins. I cleaned it up oiled it made sure everything was moving properly, but I never saw it run or knew what it actually did, my wife has been curious as well. I looked it up on RUclips and found you, nice job; I feel like a pro, however the thing probable does a lot more than the basic stitch. I’ll be watching to see what you put up, thanks’.

When I opened it the instruction video was on VHS (ha ha) Out of all the videos I watched this video was bar far the best ever. I changed out all of the thread with new spools and was up and running in no time. Thank you so much for your time and very informative video. I am saving this video for future reference.

I watched 3 different videos on threading this serger this morning. You are the only one who said the lower looper thread needed to be on the top of the upper looper. This made all the difference in the world. I was actually able sew out a sample without the machine jamming! Thank you so much! The best tutorial ever!

Yes my serger was the elephant in the closet. I followed a different video 7 years ago and it was difficult to follow. So when my thread broke 6 months ago, I didn't want to put myself thru that horror again. Today was my sewing machine maintenance day. So I took a deep breath hoping to watch a more less difficult instructional. Yours was perfect. I even replace the spools with brand new ones. Thank you. I didn't have a threader so I used a long twist tie to pull the thread thru. Thank you so much for your patience.

You should be a life couch:) THANK YOU SO MUCH

My older serger that I had for 30 years had a threader with a hook on the end that worked wonderful. The new wire ones brake right a way and no one on line had anything better. Thanks so much for your help!!!

Wow! What a great tutorial. The floss threader is GENIUS! I have an older 634D My Lock and aside from the tension disks everything inside the serger is the same. I’ve been able to thread my serger, but the threader is a game changer for me on the lower looper. As you say, many of us fear our sergers…I bought my Janome about a year ago - used - fifty bucks - from my Viking Pfaff Dealer where I bought my sewing machine. About 3 months ago I dragged it out and tried to thread it…I did and I’ve been using that wonderful serger ever since! It is WONDERFUL! Best fifty bucks I ever spent and am stunned I got such a bargain especially since it was serviced and came with the manual and MOST parts (but not all)..but they are not a Janome Dealer so it had been sitting unnoticed for a while and they marked it down from 150.00. Frankly, I enjoy it more than my Pfaff sewing machine 🫢 I wish I could do everything on my serger. Thank you so much for your well put together tutorials…much appreciated!

I can't even express my gratefulness to you for this video. I've had my Janome 8002D for 4 years now. Tried to use it more often, but always get frustrated. Especially when a thread breaks and I have to thread it...or when I want to change the color of the thread. Now I know why! I've watched a few other videos over the years but your video (and I came across it just by a RUclips suggestion for me to watch!) explains every single detail. I kept checking my machine as I was watching it. Didn't know about the rolled hem feature because I couldn't understand the instructions in the manual. I love the tip about using the floss threader thingys to thread the lower looper. You are just a super pro when it comes to teaching all the little details. I had an older serger for over 15 years and rarely used it. Thought this newer fancier one would be easier but it wasn't. Thank you...thank you!! Now...two things... (1) Wish there was a way those of us who don't live near Pennsylvania (I live in the UP of Michigan) and couldn't purchase from you could watch all your videos. I personally would be willing to pay a fee if your store charged it, to watch these videos or take video classes)! and (2)...just bought a new Janome Skyline S9 three weeks ago. It is so beautiful. I'm wondering if you have any videos available for this machine? Bless you for doing this. I am actually feeling that I can thread this serger now and not have heart palpitations!

We also have two other videos, Simple Serging 102 and 103 which discuss more serger techniques in detail. Congratulations on your S9. It is a fabulous machine. One of the best features of the S9 is the wifi capability. Please see our video on using the Janome Acusetter app for perfect placement of embroidery designs. Although the instruction is given on the Janome 15000, the information is applicable to the S9. Lauren and Kathy walk you through how to use this essential app. It's a game changer.

Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I had literally spent hours trying to thread and re-thread my Janome overlocker to keep having the same problem. After watching your video it is finally working as it should and I understand how my overlocker works so much better now too.

Your video is so helpful. My upper looper thread keeps breaking (same serger as yours) and I just couldn’t figure out why, I thought I thread correctly , and it drove me mad. And guess what , it turns out I missed that pin where the upper looper thread needs to go behind . And now I just tested it on a piece of fabric, it works . Thank you for making this video and save my sanity and hours and hours sitting in front of the machine being frustrated. Many loves from Australia

Wow I tried everything. I'm more visually directed performing mechanical tasks. You hit all the points and I'm more comfortable with threading my beloved serger.
    Thank you!

bought a second hand Janome 304D. Most of threading was simple enough except for lower looper. I read manual continuously and couldn't find those two hidden one's lol. Then I watched this video. Super helpful, thanks.

Thank you! Just had to thread my Janome 634D after I hadn’t done it it months and kept missing a guide somewhere. Your tutorial is the best I’ve seen. Machine is working brilliantly again. On to more sewing.

The instruction booklet that came with my Baby Lock serger doesn't have clear threading illustrations. The serger has been gathering dust in the closet for over 7 years because I couldn't figure out how to thread the lower looper. I followed your instructions step by step and I'm delighted to have the serger up and going again. Thank you for your excellent tutorial.

Thank you so very much for this tutorial. I received the same threaded Janome serger but it was serging very loose. I rethreaded and set the tension as you suggested and it came out beautifully. You are definitely right when you said that threading could be the problem for bad results. I. So excited to use it now 😁

I had my Janome 3434D brand new in a box for 2 years. I got it out yesterday and everything was perfect until I broke the lower looper thread. The instruction booklet was so hard to follow, i was REALLY stuck on the last guide. Your video was awesome and so explicit, very easy to follow. Thank you!!

Thanks so much! You are so through. I have been using a Sergers for years, and never really took advantage of a demonstration of the machine. I guess I have been lucky, although I have had challenges in threading them. In fact I used to "tie on" method of threading prior to this. I now see what I have been doing incorrectly and feel so much better in the overall operation of this machine. Again thanks. I will look for additional videos on the overall operation of this great machine.

Thank you! I purchased a Janome 204D from a friend's mom (was her white elephant Lol). A super sewing friend kept promising to show me how to set it up but kept cancelling. If we did sew, she would just say that she would do it so we could get sewing. Sigh.
Found your video and I am not frightened to pull it out and start working with it.
So no, I am not a direct customer, but I would be if I were in the right country and city! Thank you from Canada!!

Thank you, I’ve never seen a serger used before but I’ve been making clothes and just didn’t like the raw finished edges. You were methodical, clear and explained everything that I had questions about. I feel a little more confident moving forward with my new Janome. ❤️🙏

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I am using a Necchi S34 serger, and except for the tension dials, the threading path matches this Janome perfectly. My manual did not fill in enough of the blanks after my thread broke ... you took all the mystery out of what to do with my threads! Thank you so much!
