You are an absolute angel! 6 Years ago I purchased this same overlocker from a small store and I attended their introductory to overlocking class. I struggled to produce a good seam, messing about with tension, differential etc etc and was told I just needed more practice. So I then paid to do an overlocker basics class at another store. I spent the whole 8 hours struggling to produce anything satisfactory. I felt distinct machine-snobbery - mine was the only machine in class that didn't cost the same as a good used car - and I got no help at all really. So I came home and sadly parked my overlocker on the table my husband made for it, covered it with the dust cover I made for it, and it has sat there ever since.😔 I've been sewing knits & finishing seams on my sewing machine. This video came up in my feed today and I decided that I was going to try one more time to master this machine, or sell it to someone who could. Then you got to the part about the R for rolled hem and S for standard and I screamed! 😲Not one of the 'experts' I consulted ever even mentioned that red lever, not one. I've never moved it because I didn't ever progress to rolled hems, I couldn't manage a regular hem. Well.......my machine came out of the factory with the red lever set at R!!! I've set it to S and put through a scrap and produced a perfect seam!!!! You saved my overlocker and taught me to love it again. Thank you soooo much. If I didn't live on the other end of the planet I'd drive over and give you the biggest hug you've ever received 🥰💞💓💕
I love your explanation of threading the lower looper. I always thought the lower looper was to be done first. Your tip of forming an x withe the loopers.
AMAZING instructions - only comment is to remember to put the knife back up. I broke a couple needles before realizing that that is where I went wrong. 5 years after this video was originally published, it taught me how to thread my machine! Thank you :)
Thank you! I gave away a Brother760 serger because i couldn’t thread it and got a Janome 990d. Your description is detailed and you are a trie genius when it comes to explaining hard stuff. Thank you
I’am a 67 year old biker and it looks like I’am learning new tricks. My great-grandmother was a hatter, my grandmother a seamstress, my oldest sister made her own clothes. I always could always use a sewing machine to make seat covers (love a follow-foot machine) or repair my jeans. My sister passed last year and left me 5 sewing machines, one is a MyLock234. It looked pretty cool with 2 needles and 4 bobbins. I cleaned it up oiled it made sure everything was moving properly, but I never saw it run or knew what it actually did, my wife has been curious as well. I looked it up on RUclips and found you, nice job; I feel like a pro, however the thing probable does a lot more than the basic stitch. I’ll be watching to see what you put up, thanks’. Mark
Your explanation is the best! I wish I had found you years earlier, I will certainly share this RUclips with others who are struggling with threading their sergers. Thank you very much for the very precise tutorial.👏👏👍🙏🏻❤️
This video is such a gift! It seems I need to use it EVERY TIME my lower looper thread breaks or I need to change thread. Thank you for having such clear instruction and visual!!!
thank you so much! i just got this exact serger but in pink and i think it's the 100th anniversary edition. I was so intimidated reading the little booklet it came with so i'm so happy you made this tutorial. i just did a practice stitch and it looks so great! i bought this machine to make my pieces look more professional. thank you so much!
This video was perfect. She did a great job of demonstrating, explaining and showing how to thread a serger. I tried some other videos but this is the best one. The manual is impossible to follow so keep this gal. We need her.
What a brilliant tutorial. Easy to follow clear instructions. My 10 year old grandson , followed the instructions and was able to thread my new machine , producing a beautiful stitch. Thank you so much for a very helpful tutorial 😁
I purchased a brand new unopened in the box Janome 134D who was someone else's White Elephant. When I opened it the instruction video was on VHS (ha ha) Out of all the videos I watched this video was bar far the best ever. I changed out all of the thread with new spools and was up and running in no time. Thank you so much for your time and very informative video. I am saving this video for future reference.
Great instructions! I have been using a serger for 25 years and have to really stop and think about how those loopers are threaded. I wish I had discovered this tutorial earlier. Thank you!!!
I watched 3 different videos on threading this serger this morning. You are the only one who said the lower looper thread needed to be on the top of the upper looper. This made all the difference in the world. I was actually able sew out a sample without the machine jamming! Thank you so much! The best tutorial ever!
Yes my serger was the elephant in the closet. I followed a different video 7 years ago and it was difficult to follow. So when my thread broke 6 months ago, I didn't want to put myself thru that horror again. Today was my sewing machine maintenance day. So I took a deep breath hoping to watch a more less difficult instructional. Yours was perfect. I even replace the spools with brand new ones. Thank you. I didn't have a threader so I used a long twist tie to pull the thread thru. Thank you so much for your patience.
I truly don’t have enough words to THANK YOU! Bought my JANOME overlock T-99D, freaked out when I realised how difficult to thread, exactly as u described, been the white elephant in the closet, with so much disappointing and frustrating feelings because I’ve been watching tens and tens of videos on RUclips, but never succeeded until I found you, THE MOST PROFESSIONAL AND HONEST, absolutely informative and positive spirit! You should be a life couch:) THANK YOU SO MUCH
Lady, you are a saint! I just bought a Janome Anniversary 792PG serger and was completely lost when it came to threading it. Your video was a godsend! I've never used a serger before, and am not very good at sewing, but I am determined to learn. Thank you so much for your video. I had to watch it about three times to get it, but I just tested my serger and it works! I will subscribe.
Thank you so much for giving such a clear tutorial; not just threading but showing a beginner around the machine. Finally have the confidence to get my overlocker out after 5 months!!
now that I found you I'm not going to through my serger out the window. Was having trouble with the threaders now on the market braking. My older serger that I had for 30 years had a threader with a hook on the end that worked wonderful. The new wire ones brake right a way and no one on line had anything better. Thanks so much for your help!!!
You are officially my personal Lord and Saviour. After 2 hours of tears and frustration this afternoon I thought - I'll Google and see if there is a tutorial. I could NOT have asked for a more thorough and calming tutorial and my overlocker is now working! I cannot thank you enough. You've really made my entire year. xx
Sheba 15 July 2018 I have had my overlocker for 3 years and have had to get help to get it threaded. Finally it became the white elephant like you said. Tonight at 11 decided I felt the great need to look for help online. I watched a couple but was not too happy until I got to your Tutorial. Eureka !!! you tutorial is just so clear with emphasis at the right spots so I could not possibly miss them. Thank you a million times. Queensland Australia and it is nearly midnight.
Thank you so much. I bought mine new 16yrs ago, all threaded up ready to go. Looked too complicated to use so it sat unused for 16yrs in a cupboard and forgotten about. I recently re discovered it and thought ok lets see if i can get help online to help me use it. I found you and i am so grateful for your video and clear explanations. Now i understand how it works and how great it is to use! Mine is a My Lock 204D and thought i would have difficulty finding help, since its quite old, but was pleasantly surprised to come across your tutorial Thank you again. Kia Ora from NewZealand!
You very good Teacher, many thanks to you because I understand the beautiful way of explaining how to use this machine, I put it 15 years ago, until now I funded not easy to use it. God bless you 🥰🕊🌹👍🏼💐fatma from London
I LOVE YOU!!! Thankyou so so much for this video. I was gifted a second hand overlocker and just could not get it to work properly. I've watched so many tutorials, shed a few frustrated tears, dropped many curse words and was just about ready to give the thing away, then I stumbled upon this video and hallelujah!!! The overlocker, she lives!!!! Turns out I just had to thread the upper looper first! Thankyou again for such an amazingly informative video. You're a legend!
I just tried this today and I have a Janome 3434D that I *thought was broken* and needed to be serviced so I bought a new Brother 1634D. It wasn't until my thread snapped on the Brother that it occurred to me that should try and thread my Janome also. I watched this video and now The Janome works even better than the new Brother!! Thank you so much for this video! Its a little lenghty but VERY WORTH THE WATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was definitely on the road to never trying my brand new serger! This was the best video I have found. It helps that my serger is the same as the one you are using of course, but I learned so much more than just the threading. Thank you!
Wow! What a great tutorial. The floss threader is GENIUS! I have an older 634D My Lock and aside from the tension disks everything inside the serger is the same. I’ve been able to thread my serger, but the threader is a game changer for me on the lower looper. As you say, many of us fear our sergers…I bought my Janome about a year ago - used - fifty bucks - from my Viking Pfaff Dealer where I bought my sewing machine. About 3 months ago I dragged it out and tried to thread it…I did and I’ve been using that wonderful serger ever since! It is WONDERFUL! Best fifty bucks I ever spent and am stunned I got such a bargain especially since it was serviced and came with the manual and MOST parts (but not all)..but they are not a Janome Dealer so it had been sitting unnoticed for a while and they marked it down from 150.00. Frankly, I enjoy it more than my Pfaff sewing machine 🫢 I wish I could do everything on my serger. Thank you so much for your well put together tutorials…much appreciated!
You right I own one serger for years and I never used because I was scared about the treading I ended selling out...but now I buy on other one and I already start to use it thanks to RUclips video helping a lot !!! Thanks to you too
Great video! I watched it several times until I had an "ah ha" moment! That lower looper is tricky but the shot of the upper and lower loopers crossing was golden. Thank you, thank you. And shout out to Jonathan for noting where the threading begins, much appreciated.
Thank you for this clear and confidence boosting tutorial. My old Janome 204D got a thorough servicing and it is out on my table serging of all things. 20 years later I am finally giving it the love it deserves. Helps if someone teaches you how to thread it.
Brilliant so much better than the info book, boxed mine after threads broke & couldn’t thread. 23 years later saw this video, great shows how to thread the dreaded lower loop, learned there was another green loop & ordered the floss threaders great, l now can use my overlocker thanks to this video..... great many thanks Jan x
I have never used a serger before. My husband bought this for my birthday ( I am doing sewing classes) . I have only used a sewing machine . I am I love with this machine, because of your tutorial it’s really made it easy to use. I have not even looked at the DVD it come with!.
THANK YOU, Thank you! My 2 year old paperweight finally has life thanks to your excellent tutorial. I so appreciate the time you took to create this. Very clear instruction and camera work helped tremendously to finally take this out to rethread and put her to use! I had no idea when I purchased how difficult the threading was. Your video took all the mystery away.
Every eventuality you have described is me. Dusty thread overlocker in a cupboard for 19 years etc., I am determined to use it now. Thank You so much for your impeccably clear instructions I am truly grateful. Many blessings from England xxx
My Janome serger is 14 years old and for the first time I ran out of thread on one of the loopers and had to retread the machine. I was really struggling! The tip around 37 minutes was what I needed (the lower looper thread has to go over the upper looper thread). Thank you for such a thorough video.
This is the BEST video or demonstration of threading a serger I have ever seen. I've got a new Janome 8002d serger just sitting because I have been so unsuccessful in threading that lower looper. Thank you!
I am so thankful to you for making this video. You are kind and patient. I was so afraid to use my serger just in case a thread broke I would never be able to thread it again.
Spent the whole of yesterday, threading my serger without success. Tried again this morning, again with no success. I have watched this video - thank you so very much! I now see where I went wrong and am confident I can do better.
I've had this machine for two years and have been struggling with using it. Thank you so much I now have the perfect stitch on my fabric. Great tip about the lower and upper looper threading with the criss cross. Thank you thank you.
Hello! mine is a My Lock 204D I couldn't find tutorials anywhere, I'm so glad I came across this video! I cannot thank you enough! Greetings from the United Kingdom 😀
I can't even express my gratefulness to you for this video. I've had my Janome 8002D for 4 years now. Tried to use it more often, but always get frustrated. Especially when a thread breaks and I have to thread it...or when I want to change the color of the thread. Now I know why! I've watched a few other videos over the years but your video (and I came across it just by a RUclips suggestion for me to watch!) explains every single detail. I kept checking my machine as I was watching it. Didn't know about the rolled hem feature because I couldn't understand the instructions in the manual. I love the tip about using the floss threader thingys to thread the lower looper. You are just a super pro when it comes to teaching all the little details. I had an older serger for over 15 years and rarely used it. Thought this newer fancier one would be easier but it wasn't. Thank you...thank you!! Now...two things... (1) Wish there was a way those of us who don't live near Pennsylvania (I live in the UP of Michigan) and couldn't purchase from you could watch all your videos. I personally would be willing to pay a fee if your store charged it, to watch these videos or take video classes)! and (2)...just bought a new Janome Skyline S9 three weeks ago. It is so beautiful. I'm wondering if you have any videos available for this machine? Bless you for doing this. I am actually feeling that I can thread this serger now and not have heart palpitations!
Thank you so much for your kind words--much appreciated! We are so happy the video helped. We also have two other videos, Simple Serging 102 and 103 which discuss more serger techniques in detail. Congratulations on your S9. It is a fabulous machine. One of the best features of the S9 is the wifi capability. Please see our video on using the Janome Acusetter app for perfect placement of embroidery designs. Although the instruction is given on the Janome 15000, the information is applicable to the S9. Lauren and Kathy walk you through how to use this essential app. It's a game changer.
I have now watched 102 and 103. And several of the Janome 15000 videos, including the one you've suggested. I figured after watching a couple re: the 15000 that the machines are quite similar in features. Thanks so much. Look forward to learning all I can so I can put this knowledge to use with my new machine...and of course my serger :-)
Great video ....my mom uses the serger and had forgotten how to thread it after 3 years of not using it. She is 93 and loves her serger!!!!! Thanks for the informative video
I am so very happy I found your tutorial. I have had my serger for about 10 years and because I could not get it threaded after the thread broke, I have not used it. I worked over one hour with manual in hand and did not succeed (today). Finally went to the internet....thank goodness. You made it so much easier to do and I DID IT!!!! Thank you!!!!
This is the BEST video on how to thread the Janome 8002 D. I watched a couple of others and I could not follow the visual. This video helped me so much. Thank you.
Thank you Pocono Sew & Vac.... I had been planning on selling my serger that I have only used a few times. Too intimidated about the threading. Now I am taking charge... thank you again.
This was so helpful in getting me to finally set up my serger. Grateful to find a video tutorial that doesn’t prefer the tie threads and pull through method of threading.
My Serger has been in my closet for 7 years because I just couldn’t get it threaded correctly. Your video is precise, clear and great to watch - complete with snapping sounds which I didn’t know to listen for. I can’t thank you enough for this video. I love your teaching technique and I hope I can find more videos from you. Thank you, again for this very valuable video!
Thank you sooooo much 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽 I’m literally want to jump out of my skin out of excitement for the success of my threading. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Oh God bless you.
I want to thank you!! I have a 334D which has been in the closet for over 22 years. Thanks to you I was able to thread my machine & it works beautifully!
Thank you for this. I'm giving my Janome serger to my daughter and we got it all tangled up following the threading on the front cover where 1 is the Lower Looper. I had to look here and on elsewhere to remember that the Upper Looper is always done first. Once again, thank you. God Bless
Thank you so much for this. I just threaded my serger for the first time ever thanks to you! I was looking at the manual and watched an old instructional video by Janome, but I could not see what I was doing wrong. After finding your video I discovered that I missed the little needle after the guides for the upper looper, and I also didn't catch that the lower looper thread needed to go over the upper looper thread. Thank you thank you so much!
I just found this video and can't thank you enough for the very thorough explanation of every step. I don't find the manual to my 8933 MOD serger to be very helpful. I learn much better with a visual. I wish it wasn't a three hour drive to your shop. It looks beautiful! Thank you again!!
Thank you so much for this brilliant tutorial. It was a battle of wills between myself and my Janome overlocker which I can now say I won with your help.
thank you I was ready to give up. I was missing the 3rd hidden loop. I just ordered the floss from Amazon. This is the best instructions on youtube. Cant thank you enough.❤❤❤❤
Thank you very much first time using my serger it came string and I was happy about it but the thread burst that when the trouble started I just could not get this machine string I watch severals videos and none of them help i was getting frustrated I just could not get this machine string it was the lower looper thread was giving me the a hard time but you come to my rescue you did this training so well step by step and now I got it on the first try I can't thank you no more you have make my day thank you so much may god bless you and keep on doing what you are doing to help ppl like me you are amazing teacher and a patient one you just don't know how I am 😂 happy
Thank you for the excellent video. I recently purchased the same serger but it hasn't arrived yet. I am so excited to use my serger. This was the best video on RUclips on how to thread this machine. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for making this video. My husband bought me a Janome 990D for our 10th anniversary and I had no idea how to use it. This video is very helpful and you were very thorough.
Very informative. I have Brother 4234D overlocker and came pre threaded when I bought it. I then removed all threads and tried myself for all most 20 times to get use to it and remember. Your explanation are excellent with your beautiful voice. Thank you so much for lovely video.
After watching the video again i followed the instructions and now i have a fabulous machine i can now use. Thank you so much it is the best i have seen . X
This was amazing...thank you so much!! I bought my machine in the UK last summer and have tried, on and off, to get it threaded correctly but without success. Your video was just fantastic. 😍😍😃😃
Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I had literally spent hours trying to thread and re-thread my Janome overlocker to keep having the same problem. After watching your video it is finally working as it should and I understand how my overlocker works so much better now too.
I was so afraid of threading my serger. I have finally done it!!!!! Thank you so much!. This video is so comprehensive in explanation. Love it!!!! THANK YOUUUU
I have this exact machine. I sat staring at it today, trying to remember how to thread it. It's been in storage for 5 years!! Thanks for the very helpful and well explained information!
Your video is so helpful. My upper looper thread keeps breaking (same serger as yours) and I just couldn’t figure out why, I thought I thread correctly , and it drove me mad. And guess what , it turns out I missed that pin where the upper looper thread needs to go behind . And now I just tested it on a piece of fabric, it works . Thank you for making this video and save my sanity and hours and hours sitting in front of the machine being frustrated. Many loves from Australia
Wow I tried everything. I'm more visually directed performing mechanical tasks. You hit all the points and I'm more comfortable with threading my beloved serger. Thank you!
Best tutorial ever! Was so frustrated trying to thread my serger I almost bough a different very expensive machine. I owe you a nice dinner next time I'm in town!
The directions were so detailed. It was wonderful instructions. I've never owned a serger and had no idea how it even works. This was a wonderful video.
bought a second hand Janome 304D. Most of threading was simple enough except for lower looper. I read manual continuously and couldn't find those two hidden one's lol. Then I watched this video. Super helpful, thanks.
Excellent tutorial ! I've just got my new overlocker and being an absolute beginner in that area I felt a bit overwhelmed when reading through the instructions. 5 stars from me !
Thank you! Just had to thread my Janome 634D after I hadn’t done it it months and kept missing a guide somewhere. Your tutorial is the best I’ve seen. Machine is working brilliantly again. On to more sewing.
The instruction booklet that came with my Baby Lock serger doesn't have clear threading illustrations. The serger has been gathering dust in the closet for over 7 years because I couldn't figure out how to thread the lower looper. I followed your instructions step by step and I'm delighted to have the serger up and going again. Thank you for your excellent tutorial.
Thanks to this clip, i have no clue how to rethreadvthis green one. Almost bring the machine back to the shop but they close due to covid. Get in utube searching and i find you. It is the most valuable instruction video. Thanks again
Thank you so very much for this tutorial. I received the same threaded Janome serger but it was serging very loose. I rethreaded and set the tension as you suggested and it came out beautifully. You are definitely right when you said that threading could be the problem for bad results. I. So excited to use it now 😁
I had my Janome 3434D brand new in a box for 2 years. I got it out yesterday and everything was perfect until I broke the lower looper thread. The instruction booklet was so hard to follow, i was REALLY stuck on the last guide. Your video was awesome and so explicit, very easy to follow. Thank you!!
Thanks so much! You are so through. I have been using a Sergers for years, and never really took advantage of a demonstration of the machine. I guess I have been lucky, although I have had challenges in threading them. In fact I used to "tie on" method of threading prior to this. I now see what I have been doing incorrectly and feel so much better in the overall operation of this machine. Again thanks. I will look for additional videos on the overall operation of this great machine.
Thank you! I purchased a Janome 204D from a friend's mom (was her white elephant Lol). A super sewing friend kept promising to show me how to set it up but kept cancelling. If we did sew, she would just say that she would do it so we could get sewing. Sigh. Found your video and I am not frightened to pull it out and start working with it. So no, I am not a direct customer, but I would be if I were in the right country and city! Thank you from Canada!!
Thank you, I’ve never seen a serger used before but I’ve been making clothes and just didn’t like the raw finished edges. You were methodical, clear and explained everything that I had questions about. I feel a little more confident moving forward with my new Janome. ❤️🙏
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I am using a Necchi S34 serger, and except for the tension dials, the threading path matches this Janome perfectly. My manual did not fill in enough of the blanks after my thread broke ... you took all the mystery out of what to do with my threads! Thank you so much!

Great video. It’s the first time I have had to thread my serger and I could not have done it without this video. ❤
Thank you so much. Having own my overlocker for ten years, first time I do the threading property. 💕

I could NOT have asked for a more thorough and calming tutorial and my overlocker is now working! I cannot thank you enough. You've really made my entire year. xx
My go to threading guide. I have it saved and every time I forget, I go back to watch it again. Thanks so much 😊
Sheba 15 July 2018 I have had my overlocker for 3 years and have had to get help to get it threaded.
Mine is a My Lock 204D and thought i would have difficulty finding help, since its quite old, but was pleasantly surprised to come across your tutorial
Thank you again.
Thank you for the kind words!!!
Unfortunately that product doesn't seem to be in Australian. 😥
Thanks to you I managed to use my serger after 6/7 years that I own my serger. I am so greatful you have know idea. Thank you so much ❤
You right I own one serger for years and I never used because I was scared about the treading I ended selling out...but now I buy on other one and I already start to use it thanks to RUclips video helping a lot !!! Thanks to you too
Cathy you are a born teacher, so glad I found your explanation. Brilliant
I think you do a remarkable job with your video's and explainations. I have you #1 on my lesson list!
Absolutely brilliant!!! You made everything seem so straightforward. My machine is never going into the cupboard...
Thanks to you, my "white elephant" can now become a "work horse." You are a wonderful teacher! Thank you, thank you
This is the BEST video or demonstration of threading a serger I have ever seen.
We're happy it helped!
Same! I've this model too
I can't even express my gratefulness to you for this video.
This is the best tutorial….I can finally thread my sever that has been sitting unused for a year…thank you so very much
I am so very happy I found your tutorial. I have had my serger for about 10 years and because I could not get it threaded after the thread broke, I have not used it. I worked over one hour with manual in hand and did not succeed (today). Finally went to the internet....thank goodness. You made it so much easier to do and I DID IT!!!! Thank you!!!!
That's awesome! Serge on :) .
Exactly - a few days ago I have just bought it on-line and I we've been freaked out since then. Thank you from all my heart. Greetings from Slovenia.
Kept this in my favorites for over a year now. Come back to it everytime I rethread. Thanks so much Kathy!
I want to thank you!! I have a 334D which has been in the closet for over 22 years. Thanks to you I was able to thread my machine & it works beautifully!
That's what we like to hear! Don't forget to give your machine a good oiling. After 22 years, it will need it!
I was gifted a magnolia 7034D. This tutorial is the best! My friend had given up on using it, but with your help I am on my way! Thanks so much!
I was having problems with my overlocker, followed your clear instructions and everything is honky dory! Thanks a million 🙏🏼
Thank you so much for making this video. My husband bought me a Janome 990D for our 10th anniversary and I had no idea how to use it. This video is very helpful and you were very thorough.
I have had my serger for 3 years and never learned how to thread it! This is an amazing tutorial and helped me out tremendously. Thank you!
THANK YOU!! This is the best tutorial yet for my Janome serger.
After watching your video it is finally working as it should and I understand how my overlocker works so much better now too.
thank goodness for this video, you just saved my sanity
I have had my Jenome Juno for a couple years and this is the best video about how to thread it I have found!!! Thanks!
This was a brilliant tutorial. Threaded my Elna 264 with such ease , with your guidance.👏🏽👏🏽. Thank you 🙏🏼
You literally saved me today. Was close to never touching my machine again. Very well explained. You’re my hero!

Bought this machine in the UK. Loved this and now am ready to try and use it. Wanted to know how to thread it before I needed to. Thank you so much
Thanks to this clip, i have no clue how to rethreadvthis green one.
I. So excited to use it now 😁
First time EVER I've managed to thread it - brilliant clear instructions - thank you
I had my Janome 3434D brand new in a box for 2 years. I got it out yesterday and everything was perfect until I broke the lower looper thread. The instruction booklet was so hard to follow, i was REALLY stuck on the last guide. Your video was awesome and so explicit, very easy to follow. Thank you!!
Absolutely fabulous teaching video on a serger! This did give me the confidence that I needed, and can thread the serger like a champ now! Thank you!
