MorganvanHelsing Man, you know, some day, some big name in the industry will notice you and you'll be hired. Untill that day comes, maybe do a kickstarter campaign? I mean, I've heard of a story that a guy did a kickstarter thing where he asked for 20$ to make a cake. And he got 20 000$ because people thought it was a fun idea. Keep making those videos, and in time, you'll get enough attention. You rock!
+MorganvanHelsing I don't know your taste in snare drums obviously but I know that I'm looking the buy the "Mapex Black Panther - Machete". Sounds and looks like a beast and is apparently supposed to cut through anything, so it should be great for blast beats. The black panther snares seem really nice overall but the machete is definitely the one that I have the most interest in. Actually a bit cheaper here in Sweden than at Thomann's which is definitely a rarity. Other than that I highly recommend the one I'm currently using. A Pearl Vision Series Birch. It really is a beast and with the Evans hybrid batter head (and new snare wires and resonant head) ... damn! If you're at all into the kind of sound you hear from Dying Fetus' latest album, just crank it up and you have it!
+ovo nisamja This guy is pretty good as far as speed. But if you guys want to see some real speed drumming with a lot of creativity and rhythm then you need to take a look at Buddy Rich's stuff. That guy was incredible even at the age of 64 when he played Concert of the Americas in 1982. I mean absolute kick ass. Rich didn't need techniques. He was all pure talent and I still haven't seen anyone out-do him at a drum set. Seriously, start with Rich and work your way down if you want to learn something really cool about the history of drumming.
+MorganvanHelsing Great to hear. I hope the number gets bigger, I really think more people should see these techniques and exercises, regardless of genre preferences. I see a lot of tips and tricks for both beginners and pros in this channel, step-by-step advice to beginners and corrections to many errors and mistakes what many professional drummers do & techniques everyone should consider trying. Keep it up, man.
hey I have a question, do you consider these sticks to be too skinny and short for this technique? www.amazon.com/Vic-Firth-5AB-American-Drumsticks/dp/B0021VM90U/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1469662475&sr=1-1&keywords=vic+firth+5ab
Hard to say - everyone is different! I can use the technique also with very light sticks but it does not sound as powerful as with heavy ones. I think I would feel uncomfortable with this sticks.
That's similar to a heel-toe done with your hands. You even explain the advantage over just rebound. Fundamentally simple, but next level. It's brilliant.
I love hearing this kind of drumming on real, acoustic drums and no triggered, studio DAW bullshit. Plus, I have a Mapex and hear it played like this is awesome.
+HabAnagarek Im pretty sure his drums wasn't really tuned so it would pretty much sound like that if he was to record it in the studio. It's all about tuning.
th3 GreAtMan _LOVE You are right about tuning though. It's one of the most looked over parts of the drum kit, in my opinion, but it's also probably the most important as well. There's a reason why most drummers want John Bonham's sound
EZCreepin Yeah, a lot of drummers don't even care about quality and sound anymore they just want to play drums. There not a problem with that it's just when you play, the main goal is for the music to sound good.
Rapid paradiddles and doubles, always fun. Surprised you get so much power with the thumbs up technique. I play palms down. I find it gives me more power and speed.
Well done. I believe some dude made a VHS (yeah, old) some time back about this technique. So, it's not new, but great mastery of it! "Gets in tank thing vehicle, plays double stroke fills over loudspeaker system, enemy retreats under the belief that millions of mercenaries are firing at them. No shots fired, war over".
INCREDIBLE! Unlike alot of the haters on here- i GET what Morgan was demonstrating. So fuck everybody else that THINKS they can kick his ass. YOU CAN'T! Rock on Morgan; sweet FAST chops, GREAT technique!
+bnbailey1521 "Ok guys, so today I'm going to show you how to do a really fast double stroke on my drum set" *Climbs on top of a fucking six wheeled tank to get to his drum set*
Grindfather I don't think that's it at all. He spends literally half the video showing how he can play the push/pull technique on any surface, including a folded pair of pants.
Thanks for sharing this technique with us, it gets so much more power than regular doubles. I love how these fills sound. I've been practicing it for a couple months now and I've gotten it up to 250 bpm so far. I remember at first I couldn't even play it at 200 lol.
Max Echendu I used to mount my ride right on top of my floor Tom, no stand or anything, just set right on top. It was really innovative when you think about it. I mean, nobody else was doing it at the time
Max Echendu I know this comment is old af but I think it’s just a mapex thing cause I’ve got a similar kit to his and the Tom mounting system was crap and it made the right Tom sit super far to the right so I always put my ride like 4 inches over my floor Tom and it works pretty well for me
this guy deserves a real kit...he's got an armored personnel carrier & a 2 cent drum kit, he should get his priorities straight...do you really need that bonecrusher ?
Man...you've got that down like crazy! I have been practicing this method for about 4 months and I am only at about 170 on doubles around the kit and thats only about a minute then I can't move lol. I practice on a pillow so I'll keep progressing but 280?? Dammit dude that is so freaking crazy. How many years did you spend developing that? Your feet are on god damn point also, man. You're an excellent drummer.
+Joshua Banks Hour at least. Most days I try to spend 2 hrs at the pad and an hour at the kit. I'm at about 185 for consistant doubles around the kit. It takes so long to develop rudiments. Let alone all the other shit I'm trying to practice. You play? What's your routine? Love talking to other drummers about their practice regimen.
Yeh I do. I usually play a couple hours a day (on average) but have only recently being interested in double stroke rolls(I have always done singles). I can do my double stroke at about 140 but being able to do 180ish would be nice. I don't really have a routine as I've just started a week or two ago. I was previously focused on my single roll which I have got to about 240-250. My single roll exercises usually involved building speed and holding for around 5-15 mins. Should I take a similar approach with my double stroke roll? What works best for you?
+Joshua Banks Man 140 for only starting doubles 2 weeks ago is great! I started em around feb and I couldn't do 120 so I mean it didn't take too long to get them to where they are now. And 250 for your singles is awesome. Do the same thing with your doubles you did with your singles...you'll be at 180 in 3 months tops I'd say. Its funny because as soon as you start to see progress you wont wanna stop. That's what happened to me. Good luck dude.
I just came here to see if you were a vampire. You're really pale and your name is Van Helsing. Can't be a coincidence. It also explains why you're such a great drummer. You've probably been perfecting your craft for centuries now...

It all fits in so well, especially with the armoured vehicle cause this stuff sounds like a motherf@cking 50. Cal machine gun!! Awesome technique man, great stuff!!
You may be missing the point, he is explaining the technique of the double stroke, and this guy has some amazing skill at it. if you get good with this type of skill it will allow you to put double strokes into fills that will add ghost notes will little or no effort at amazing speed. You can see drummer like Neal Peart or Chad Smith use these double strokes in the fills and you don't even really notice it but it has some really good effect. Your stamina to keep this type of drumming up through a 45 minute set would have to be out of this world. So while i don't really like this super speed drumming the skill is very usable and he does a great job of showing what you can to with it if you master the skill. To note this skill is uses a lot if jazz.
Man, I take my hat off to you, but I'm also too drawn by the comedy value of your semi naked body and the whole kit, rocking back and forward on top of the steel container, whilst you play at such insane speeds. Nice technique!!
As a jobbing drummer, I couldn't tell you how many times I've been called upon to play 2/4 time at 280 bpm. Hold on, yes I can.........zero. Definition of an optimist: this guy with a beeper.
Krasse Blast Beat Technik.
Eh.. semantics. I learnt alot from this vid and I'm going to try out that technique when I get home. All this talk of "finding where the rebound is" wasn't really flowing with me.
You mean, sitting it on top of a shipping container outside on a cold day next to an armoured personnel carrier does not give the very richest acoustics?
Is there any chance that you can make a short video explaining and showing exactly what your thumb is doing? I've watched your other videos, but the part with the thumb is kicking my ass.
crave5885 - agreed! seems like a shortcut if you ask me. you want speed but dont want to use as much power? pay the price later, because instead of using the advantages of rebounds, you are sacraficing your delicate limb parts to compinsate.
I've tried his technique, and it works pretty well for short drum rolls or fills. But I'd agree with you that this technique for blasting at above 12 consecutive notes per second can take its toll on our fingers.
Can't deny the skill that's being used here, but the overall sound is the kind of drumming I can't stand. I have never been a fan of blast beats and never will be. Tasteless, no groove, no feel, just a bashing sound repeated over and over again. Ugh.
+BlackLocustMusic It's a "Technique" The motion mechanics are different than the traditional way to play a double. Many players use "Fingers" and rely on rebound. This technique does not. I hope that clears up any confusion you may be experiencing. Shred on,hail satan,Kiss the goat!

Can u pls do a beginner lesson for single stroke
In the beginning I was like "Forget about the drums, where the heck did he get the armored truck?"
not to mention who keeps their drumset on a shipping container?
Daniel Plasko umm he does
Daniel Plasko ithink the drums on the shipping container improved his sound
he must be in a military band.... perhaps....
we are still waiting for the answer
"I can play on any surface"
*Gets friend to hold his hands out
'Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow.....'
Would of been even better on some hot chicks ass
I was thinking itd be more like olwowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowow
i think this guy recorded the gun sounds for all the call of duty games
LOL
L0LxDDDDD
In one take.... Lmao
I hope my gun shoots that fast
Lol
Dude, you nailed the push pull technique!!! You're one of the few I've seen so far that can do this! And btw, you deserve a much better drum set!
ovo nisamja Thank you! Sadly blast beats do not automatically generate money but I am working on it ;-) First thing I will buy will be a new snare!
MorganvanHelsing Man, you know, some day, some big name in the industry will notice you and you'll be hired. Untill that day comes, maybe do a kickstarter campaign? Not my kind of music or drumming, but you can’t deny the speed, control and precision this guy is demonstrating here. Really impressive!
started practicing this technique two weeks ago.
I seem to get the feel and control of things at slower speeds.
Getting better little by little
I am not keen on this sort of fast music but the control and power you have on this vid is mental. Love it.
Thank you!
pinball1970 it's extreme metal so I doubt many will like it
5:28 the legendary intro for your videos. This dude is amazing and insanelly influential!
If you would have shown the " no rebound " on a fish I would have lost my shit! Damn good video!
That's funny man well done
Love the comments about kit tuning when this guy is drumming at a godlike level
"It's the fucking Catalina Wine Mixer."
TVD- The Remedy Rock those fucking drums Dale!
BOATS AND HOS!!!!!!!!!!!
TVD- The Remedy your outty 5000 bro
one of the most incredible techniques Iv ever seen......it's quite clear

the high tom his headbanging when you play blast beats :)
Gehti Schniksan you know he's awesome when drum itself headbangs!!
Gehti Schniksan i also like how its giving up at 4:57 like "i cant take this anymore man"
Gehti Schniksan Haha what an awesome observation
Does my shirt have to be off for this to work?
Only if you play outside when the temperature is over 30°C!
Yes
Hahahahahahhahaaaa
Yas
It helps
2:26 Ha, I knew it.
You really DO have four hands!
Busted! :P
Why is this so amazing? I used this technique 30 years ago as a teenager. Still use it today..
What he didn't know is the kit caught on fire after he left.
The extreme metal world NEEDS more of drummer like you. Fullstop!
It looks (and sounds) like "Tractor Metal". Pretty enjoyable by the way! :D
Respect from Italy great artist. Best metal drummer of all time

EZCreepin You right because in the studios they do have the sound and quality of the drums altered.
th3 GreAtMan _LOVE You are right about tuning though. It's one of the most looked over parts of the drum kit, in my opinion, but it's also probably the most important as well. There's a reason why most drummers want John Bonham's sound

I think Moes tuned the drums for this one.
L oh L! Started watching The Office recently. I concur wholeheartedly! Just need his crazy bearded relative running around.

bnbailey1521 Funny you can't play it so.....ya it's "Hilarious". 🖕
"This is how you do clean double stroke rolls using the push/pull technique"
Awesome man.
Great technique but that kit needs some serious tuning.
it could be that since its an open atmosphere the sounds go in all direction lackn its acoustic properties
they do sound like tin can thingies
He just cranked em up tight af so the double strokes work nicely
you forgot, this is metal. not even the string instruments are in tune
Grindfather I don't think that's it at all. He spends literally half the video showing how he can play the push/pull technique on any surface, including a folded pair of pants.
That's a pretty standard black metal sound
Thanks for sharing this technique with us, it gets so much more power than regular doubles. I love how these fills sound. I've been practicing it for a couple months now and I've gotten it up to 250 bpm so far. I remember at first I couldn't even play it at 200 lol.
BEST. PRACTICE. PAD. EVER.

I'm mind-blowned and enlightened. Thank you so much.
You`re welcome!
Your ride cymbal is insanely close to your floor tom.
But whatever's comfortable :).
I was going to say the same thing. Makes me feel claustrophobic.

this guy deserves a real kit...he's got an armored personnel carrier & a 2 cent drum kit, he should get his priorities straight...do you really need that bonecrusher ?
He's saving up for a tank so he can blow up the old kit before purchasing something better.
DasSuper oh yeah yeah
...yes...he does...
I mean it's a pretty nice looking kit to be honest I think it's pretty sweet
This cat is AWESOME! Had to have taken some time to perfect to this degree but work well accomplished. It's incredible! I love it! Rock on Wanja!

F@#$ Yeah Mate!!!!! The end had me THRASHIN around the place!!!! Forgot what the lesson was about!!!!
any tips on cooking
no, sorry, I suck at that!
hit it with a stick
Hit it hard enough with a stick, it might cook?
The amount of practice this takes
so can i find you on craigslist? then we start folk band yes?

Van Helsing is the human vampire-hunter in Dracula.
Nice stick control. And I love that you have gel dampeners on your drums while playing on top of a trailer outside! :)

Yes, the intro fill in ;)

Eh.. semantics. I learnt alot from this vid and I'm going to try out that technique when I get home. All this talk of "finding where the rebound is" wasn't really flowing with me.
he needs sponsorships!!!
Someone's been watching the Jojo DvD! Quality place to learn from, and fantastic execution of it by the way! Super clean.
I am just wondering how many blisters did your fingers get from this
Unreal! Some of the most amazing drumming shit I've seen in a long time!
Amazing, but was it me or did some of those beats sound like gunfire?
Yes, yes it is. XD
Great stuff!! Also, extra credits for performing on top of a container in front of an armoured car! =)
excellent push/pull technique, but that entire kit sounds awful
You mean, sitting it on top of a shipping container outside on a cold day next to an armoured personnel carrier does not give the very richest acoustics?
It's perfect for black metal.
lmao this cracked me up
That tom held on for as long as it could :)
Check out my new tutorial about Coordination Exercises: ruclips.net/video/KQ5nBClI-3o/видео.html
Is there any chance that you can make a short video explaining and showing exactly what your thumb is doing? I've watched your other videos, but the part with the thumb is kicking my ass.
Wow dude! I'm so glad youtube recommended me your channel ;D The content is gold! Thank you!
Thank you very much! Welcome on board :)
Are the drums supposed to sound like trash cans?
Boognish buckethead
To be fair, he is sat on a MASSIVE empty crate.
He wants that St. Anger tone
Boognish if you play for metallica
Insane drummer. Best Extreme metal drummer of all time
I better quit drumming and start playing piano, I feel like the worst drummer on Earth, after watching this video.
That is some mad skill.
Nice demonstration.
exactly the type of drumming I want to avoid
Exactly the comment i hit the like button on.
crave5885 - agreed! seems like a shortcut if you ask me. you want speed but dont want to use as much power? pay the price later, because instead of using the advantages of rebounds, you are sacraficing your delicate limb parts to compinsate.
Ugh.
It's okay I understand. If you combine blast beats with other kinds of drumming - it is not that mundane after all.
thanks for the tutor. I was trying to figure out how they get that insane drum roll or fill ins.
This drumkit sounds like shit though.
I had difficulty replicating the sound, so I tried this with some used baked bean cans I've been saving for the last three weeks. Worked like a charm.
um, this is the basic strokes of drumming.
Please make a video and be half as proficient as this guy....basic my ass!
Shred Sixsixsix when he play on the clothes you can clear see that the speed is way way lower. that mean that he is anjway useing the rebound
lordsmobile it is slower but it is possible.
Im guitarist but i can watch your lessons all the time EXELLENT !
ugly sound. not style whatsoever.
This is just a demonstration of drumming technique, not a song or drum solo.

I FINALLY FOUND A VIDEO ON HOW TO DRUM LIKE THAT!!!! THANK YOU
Man! Those drums are like a NewYorkMan in London.... 😂 love it :D
