What are your thoughts on the SD-1 for getting a good Josh tone? A RUclips channel recently demonstrated one with an ampeg and it sounded pretty spot on early queens.
A Boss SD-1 alone won’t get you there. The key is to have an amp already driven and use the SD-1 to tighten up. The alternative to an old Ampeg in a pedal form is the Catalinbread SFT.
@@slayerus23 Yes, the key to the tone is mostly an Ampeg VT-22 or VT-40. A Catalinbread SFT and an equalizer pedal to boost mids are a great, cheaper way to get close as well.

Had to revisit this because the tone is, well... sick!
How did you dial in the sound for the breakdown riff at 0:54? I have a DanElectro 3699 (modern Foxx Tone Machine) and can't seem to quite get it right... EQ and grit just don't seem like what he used, although apparently it was a Foxx clone. Any clues? XD
@@wibblegorm really reallllly late reply but I didn’t change the tone, I recorded this cover twice and the first time I kicked on an extra EQ boost but I realised, that it’s literally just the same tone through the whole song pretty much. That’s what I did in this cover anyway and it sounded pretty close!
