Lullabies to paralyze is their most underrated album imo. The deluxe edition that includes songs like precious and grace is such an awesome album. They’re the best band in the world.
I watch this once a month to remind me to keep making music despite being poor and cold. 40 years on from picking my first guitar and finding my missing other half, it remains of one of life's greatest pleasures to collaborate with like-minded voyagers. The journey into the unknown when locked into the recording studio underworld is SO well represented here - thanks for sharing this!
This album and Era Vulgaris did not get the love they deserve. Hell I even feel that way with Villains! If Bowie written all the songs on Villains it would be highly praised. Problem I think lies in the fact people were expecting a SFTD 2 or ...Like Clockwork 2. Sure I wouldn’t mind if they did that, but I want to see everything Josh has to offer creatively. Dude is a artistic genus !
Like clockwork is lullabies to paralyze pt. 2 in my opinion it sounds so lively just like lullabies to paralyze villains in my opinion is era vulgaris pt. 2
This album feels like an album Josh made for dudes who want to fuck Vampire chicks who shop at hot topic and dress as "Bad kitties" for Halloween. Its kinda a creeper album. That's why its by fav my least favorite of their albums.
"I don't wanna brag but I did a lot of those eyes closed." Jack Black is the greatest. I just wish he would have got to sing on the record. Great album and great video
we are witnessing lightning being caught in a bottle. This is there best record hands down. The production on this is on par to pet sounds. hats off to Joe Barresi, everything he touches turns to gold
I agree with most of what you said but comparing this album to pet sounds is a bit of a stretch. I think songs for the deaf was a holy sh!t moment, much like nevermind was.
So if i'm getting this right, Burn the Witch is one of the very few exemples of song containing a "beard harmonic" .. and from who, the ultimate bearded-rock-guy .. iconic
The mic he's using is a Fender FR 570 or AKG DX11. It's a shitty old mic that has a spring reverb in it, and most likely plugged into an amp with a fast rate of subtle vibrato or a leslie. It sounds incredible
This was released as a promo around the release of that record.... If You worked at a record store , new someone that owned a record store etcetera etc. It's pretty cool!! And they got Billy Gibbons to play on it!!
Anyone else here have the CD&DVD set also? I still have mines! It's still in decent shape! DVD might.skip though! Drinking and watching it and other music DVDs... This and OtYaTtW CD DVD set also... Switching and just setting the discs in a stack
Thanks so much for sharing this! I've heard this session mentioned a few times in Josh's interviews. Great to get a chance to see it first hand (well, second hand, I guess....)
@ 22:18 Mann.... so unbelievably a simple yet DEEP piece of music, being recorded in that one straight go!!! I love it. It's what made me love that song, this clip
I wonder if Josh showed up to the studio with all these ideas ready to get hashed out or if they made all these songs on the spot. I guess they wouldnt schedule if they didnt have some material ready to record.
It looks like an Epiphone Casino in pelham blue, but I can't find one like that on the internet. An Epiphone Dot 339 is close and will cost you $400. Great sounding with stock P-90s, great playing guitars with a pro setup.
I think Era Vulgaris is WAY better than Lullabies. This album feels like an album Josh made for dudes who want to fuck Vampire chicks who shop at hot topic and dress as "Bad kitties" for Halloween. Its kinda a creeper album. That's why its by fav my least favorite of their albums. Even including what Trump called a "jawl whack dog" album "Billians". Era Vulgaris has "Turning on the Screw", Into the Hallow", "Suture Up Your Future", "River in the Road", "3's & 7's", "Sick Sick Sick" and "Make it with Chu". Also Joey Castillo finds his sounds and personality on Era.
Well you could say that Era Vulgaris was an album for the indie-altern-thestrokish audience, with more easy lisenings, less long tracks... i think that era vulgaris is the less daring album of qotsa. Would say that´s is the less qotsa album, but there´s a thing called Villains that refutes me.
@@aguzHC the whole "screw people's irrelevant expectations" attitude of era vulgaris always struck me as one of their most brilliant sounds. maybe it just hit me when i first listened to it years ago differently but it's always been one of my favorite and it never gets old.
You're so wrong. Not detracting from Era Vulgaris, it's as good as any other Queens album, but this is a masterpiece, flows perfectly and if all the Halloween stuff puts you off IDK maybe it's not for you.

Era and Them Crooked Vultures is as good as it gets.
The beard harmonic is the real deal!
I remember seeing this years ago, forgetting where it was, and now finally I get to see the beard harmonic in action again!
YEah I saw that on the latest ZZTOP Documentary on Netflix. Josh was in the documentary and talked about this. Cool to see in person!
Lanegan and Gibbon's voices at 5:03 would make a nice quit-smoking campaign...
wiart alexandre or a great start smoking campaign depending on who you ask
Yet it is Josh that is the one coughing
I'm so grateful this exists. The best band filmed, creating the best music! How generous to let anyone share these private moments

Mark, Billy Gibbons and Josh all singing in that booth is the best! Love the recording of Running Joke as well!

0:51 that vocal effect for Someone's in the Wolf... how on earth did they make that!? It's got Sabbath's Planet Caravan written all over it!
Reverb, maybe tremolo, chorus or vibrato, and it looks like they're running it through a guitar amp?
it's the Leslie rotating speaker effect. ask.audio/articles/understanding-the-leslie-effect ruclips.net/video/WY1xs6f-2Bs/видео.html

Which song is Lanegan singing at 24:33 ?
It's a cover of a ZZ Top tune called Precious and Grace.
its not on the regular edition.. I think it did go out in a special edition, definitely inthe B sides and rarities album (bootleg)
Lanegan 🖤
You can really hear the Wilson Phillips influence

they used it in the outro for "someone's in the wolf"

10:55 wow that part is actually really cool, too bad it didn't end up on the record. Maybe it was a little too intrusive
Dib it's in there. It's buried really well in the mix, so it's more of a faint 'feel'. The whole album is full of little textural things like that :)
As Declan mentioned, it's there just low in the mix. Dean plays it live.
