I love that John Candy and Macaulay were reunited in this after Uncle Buck. Even though they weren't in a scene together, close enough. Also the funeral scene by Candy was completely improvised, which makes it even more hilarious. And Marv's spider death scream is legit. He had arachnophobia. The greatest crime in this movie certainly...even tragedy...is that Kevin didn't even get to eat his Macaroni and Cheese...😞
There was a reunion in the scenes with John Candy though. Before the two of them started making movies, him and Catherine O'Hara were part of the cast of "SCTV", a Canadian sketch comedy show that aired in the late 70s and early 80s. I think it started getting popular in the States when it was aired weekly in late night TV for a couple of years late in its run.
The little one, Fuller, with the glasses and the bed-wetting problem; is the real life little brother of Kevin. Macaulay Culkin (Kevin) and Kieran Culkin (Fuller)
Actually it was a real spider on Marv's face. They had to dub in his scream later because they didn't want him to scare the spider by doing it while it was on his face. Carrots are for the reindeer. In more recent years you can buy "reindeer feed" for kids to leave out for Santa's reindeer. I figured the old guy helped Kevin clean up the mess in the house then kept an eye on him from next door overnight but they forgot Buzz's room.
You have a great persona! Nope, no cell phones yet (well, technically there were but most people didn't have them); however, there was such a thing as a wind-up alarm clock. They were really reliable. And battery powered clocks as well. It wasn't quite the dark ages ;)
p.s. If you watch a couple of Joe Pesci /Scorsese films, you'll get an idea of why his saying, "I don't like the way that kid's looking at me," is pretty funny.
