- In the next major leap forward towards modular level repair, you can now replace your S-Series and GT Battery Module from the comfort of your own garage. Note that the process is a bit technical and it needs to be done carefully so make sure you follow the steps laid out by Austen exactly. If you don't, you could seriously damage your board or yourself.
Make sure your board is registered in the Owners Portal at my.onewheel.com. After physically installing your battery, you'll need to activate it within the app in order to ride.
If you are not comfortable with the process, no worries! We have a Battery Replacement Service we offer that comes with a 6 month warranty. You can find that here onewheel.com/pages/service

As an international rider, this is amazing news for everyone. This is the next big step Onewheel needed to become more global.
well said
Major props to the team at Onewheel, love the progress!
Thanks Zach
Great news! This is but the first step. I hope we share the same goal of: fly with your wheel, rent battery at destination business model for popular onewheel vacation destinations.
🤓 not a bad idea...
@@Onewheelbattery vending machine with return feature to keep them charged and less human capital
That'll require a whole new battery module. It would possibly work if the battery pack itself (no circuit boards) was made easy to access. Because, as is, there's too much messing around with small connectors and almost complete disability \ reassembly.
Lastly, this seems like a step in the right direction for self repairs. 👍👍
Amen! I couldve used it this wknd on vaca in FL ... was just thinking the whole time, this would be the perfect place to just one wheel it!
10:47 - Disclaimer: You will receive an Error 22 (Incompatible hardware detected) and the lightbar will flash red if powering the board on at this point. This is normal and will be corrected by completing the process at 13:00 of this video.
Great PSA, ty.
Isn't this one of the features Rewheel originally had? The community is amazing
@@xavicon64 It wasn't specifically a feature of ReWheel, but Cassiopeia - 6109 allowed Factory Mode to be accessed via BLE apps like nRF Connect and LightBlue. Accessing Factory Mode allowed us to trigger a calibration action that cleared Error 22 and also calibrated the IMU. Hoping to see something similar coming from FM in the future.
Does anyone know if you install this with aftermarket rails will it hold the level?
@@ashtonyoas3100 If your board has already been leveled prior to completing this process, it should maintain the same leveling. The battery activation process does not seem to impact the IMU (no mention of ensuring the board needs to be leveled during activation).
If you guys keep this up, no one is going to have anything to complain about. Good job 👍
😄
Took a leap of faith buying my board when none of this stuff was available and its a fantastic feeling to know you guys are finally giving your products the support they deserve. Keep up the good work fm! (And make a pint performance tire)
Tens of thousands of people bought their board before these parts were available. I wasn’t worried about it at all when I bought my XR in 2020.
Will do!
This is awesome. Big change from before! I was honestly never going to buy anything from future motion again. But if we can not only work on our own boards but get instructional videos on how to from future motion them selves. I might just stick around when my GT gives up on me one day.
I've always worked on my own stuff from rc cars and drones to skateboards and bikes.
Glad to hear it. Individual components are out there, motors, batteries, basically just the controller left and that's in the works. Also making sure to provide super in depth installation video and eventually manuals so that people can be sure to do it properly bc it is really important!
@Onewheel manuals would be a huge thing for me! It'd be nice to have a consumer lever manual and a breakdown with a diagram of stuff on the back.
@@Onewheel Are you enjoying this process though, or just doing it begrudgingly because you were forced to?
Don't answer, we know.
@@Sidkain we had a couple beers to celebrate last night actually - were thrilled about it. Always been a pain point and has been something we've wanted to do for quite some time. Was actually on the roadmap for June 2023 but got derailed by the CPSC saga. We're a small team, lots of things to do and sometimes they take time.
I whole heardedtly agree I'm glad they made the decision finaly to do the RIGHT thing. makes me appreciate them more now but still kinda pissed about the discontinued XR makes no sense
Absolutely great news! 👏 Please bring some battery diagnostics to the app as well, giving us insights in cell balance, health, etc… so that we can diagnose any issues as much as possible upfront.
🎯
As someone who is desperate to purchase a genuine onewheel and support Future Motion but resides in South Africa this is a great first step in making it financially feasible for international riders 🎉 Awesome news keep it up!
Wow, I never expected this! Cant wait to relevel our boards 😉
You guys are on a roll! This makes the board just one more step away from perfect for me! Once I can relevel the board will be complete!
✅️
Awsome news! Love all of the upgrades and accessories you've come out with in the last year including the GTS
Wowzers! This is super good, I live in Paris and so sending back for a battery change was always a bit of a worry. Thanks loads for all the work.
Big respect to all the FM crew.
No way 😭
It this really happening
This is not a drill!!!!!
That's what I said 😅😅😅
no xr packs on the road map tho...
Progress is continuing! !
I couldve used it this wknd on vaca in FL ... was just thinking the whole time, this would be the perfect place to just one wheel it!
This battery module replacement is a very sturdy foot forward.
Please allow us riders to relevel our boards with aftermarket rails. I'm happy with my Onewheel/FM software and releveling is literally my last ask.
💯
I appreciate this as another option, but I highly suggest the FM service dept!
Any chance we can get some update to be able to see our battery voltages? My XR is getting pretty old now and I would like to avoid a sudden shut off and wipeout. Thanks
I think they’ve given up on the XR. They do not sell the battery modules for the xr
Great news guys, thank you! As others I would like to see the same for my old XR!
Happy to see it ! Thanks guys
This is fantastic. This sort of thing was stopping me from purchasing. Literally adding to cart now.
Does FM ever plan to fix the charge port on the GT that's made out of plastic and eventually breaks, even though the Pint charge port is made out of metal
i've been wanting a onewheel since i was 10 years old and this will really help me when i finally get a gt
If I unplug my already working battery module and ship it overseas so I can travel with my board can I replug the module and reactivate at destination? Provided I followed all steps correctly.
If you’re only disconnecting the controller XT60 (demonstrated in this video), you will be fine to reconnect and won’t need to activate.
@@fixmypev I didn’t know if the haptic buzz update included a reactivation step. Or if that’s coming in a future update.
@@Mowguli It didn't, but the new versions of the Onewheel app (looks like they're available for download/update now) should include the activation menu option and function.
@@fixmypev Thanks bro, you da man.
@@Mowguli You're welcome. 🤙🏼⚡💯
Thanks guys:) this is awesome
I love seeing the progress, my faith has been (mostly) restored. I do want to ask, will there ever be any way to re-level your board again? I sort of understand not wanting to support aftermarket products such as entirely new rails, but I think we'd all like to see it.
Any upcoming future battery replacements for my GT that will offer more range than the standard battery? I want longer trail rides.
As another international rider, this is great news… my question is, will there be a battery replacement available for the XR ?
This is nice! How about a hot-swappable battery for the next Onewheel, so I can go as far as I want? I'd buy that immediately.
How long until replacement battery packs for pint and pint x come out
we're working on that now. They're on the website and should be available to purchase soon.
What about XR packs? Will those eventually be a thing?
@@Onewheel And, will the Pint battery use new battery tech for a slight torque and range bump?
I have a new board with less than 150 miles on it and it now has a chuck missing out of the hub. Is this covered by warranty? Before you ask im almost 50 yo and im not doing tricks or drops so i was very confused 2hen i saw it.
When will the pint and pint x modules be available?
What tools/wrenches are included?
Are we to assume this battery will give the GTS more range? Is this exactly the same battery that comes with the GT?
No! They are not cross compatible. Very important and good question.
What is that awesome skinny torque wrench you guys got? I want one 😂
Keep going!
dude, strap on your seatbelt for these next couple weeks...
PintX(P?) reveal-slash-relevel all boards callabo 🎉
Love you guys! 🫶🏻 Thanks for keeping the sport that awesome and improving it day by day!
Thanks Camil!
Here...We...Go...!!! 🤙🏼⚡🛠
Will there be options for pint x.?
Yeah man! Thank ya Onewheel! Bet this means we will probably get cell monitoring in the next app update, huh. 😼
LOL. Please tell me that was sarcasm.
@@Sidkain now, why would I care what a salty, wet blanket thinks? 😆
Don’t have a Onewheel (someday 😭), but watched the whole video… 😂
New to the scene, this seems to a be a huge positive vs what people were saying 3 months ago even. Legal reasons or not, this is great PR for the company. Helped with my buying decision.
Can you calibrate now?
Not yet; unless you’re on Cassiopeia - 6109.
awesome
Awesome!!!
Is this a stock battery or an updated better range option?
You need to use the same battery for the board you have. If you have a GT, make sure to get a GT battery module. They are not cross compatible!!!
Don't drop support for XR
Lame that I can't upgrade my Onewheel+ with a better battery
So disconnecting the battery doesn’t void the warranty?
No it never has.
@@Onewheel the “warranty void if removed” sticker on the controller box could have fooled me lmao
If you beef up continuous discharge of mosfets on the controller and release a way to re-level the board for after-market rails there wouldn't be much reason to go VESC anymore.
Does this increase range ??
No. This is a stock replacement (for when your existing battery degrades or fails).
@@fixmypev thanks!
@@nanisantana2155 You're welcome! 🤙🏼⚡🖤
Really pumped about you guys making internals finally available. Makes it better for your own existing base and also gives us VESC builders another route for a safer power supplies. Better for everyone 🫡
It's a W
Hell yeaaa!! LFGGGGGGGG
Wont there be an Error Code after disconnecting the battery from the Controller??? Disconnecting battery is know to brick the GT controllers.
Short answer is no. Long answer is that's actually never been the case contrary to popular belief. You can disconnect your battery, you just can't disconnect your Battery Management System from your Battery bc it ensures that your battery is regulated which is very important to avoid catastrophic battery accidents. But as you see in this video, the board is totally fine after the battery is disconnected and reconnected properly.
Crazy news🎉
Error 22 (Incompatible hardware) is the only error that will likely be seen (due to parts pairing) and that is what the battery activation function is designed to address.
Hey, onewheel can do motor swaps?
yep, you can do those already.
@@Onewheel Can you please add an option to recalibrate hall sensors? Even the motor it came with can eventually get out of tune I've seen. Also add digital tilt option. Your current implementation does not work for standing still or riding switch.
So we don't just get a battery by itself? It's the whole module?
Yes. Very important to have the battery regulated by the BMS
Kinda wish the cable was detachable from the other side, so it would be just: unscrew the battery lid, disconnect it, swap the battery, connect the socket back, screw the lid back... Instead of disassembling the whole board. 😅
Not gonna celebrate this. This should have been something from day 1. Why did it take 2 years before you decided to allow us to change our own battery
We’re a smaller team than most of you realize. We have a ton we’re working on including new products and everything takes time. Cheers!
@@Onewheel Understandably as it would take any small team a while to get products out, however this product was already out and we weren't able to disconnect the battery without it giving an error code and forcing us to send it back to be fixed. There's literally tons of posts all over websites with photos and videos of it. So thanks for finally allowing us to change it out now but not going to celebrate
I thought that disconnecting the battery bricked these boards. What changed?
That was actually never the case. You could always unplug your battery, but unplugging your battery from the Battery Management System will cause an error state.
This is nice but .. bring back the ability to see cell voltages and other diagnostic information. This is a safety issue. I won't even consider buying a thing from FM until this happens. It's unfair and unsafe.
A step in the right direction but I’m done with you FM, Floatwheels have a crapload more power
Sold out on Battery Modules for Pint and Pint X, already?! Please use some sort of intelligence to predict your product turnover. What is the excuse when the battery packs seem to last no more than a couple of years? The market is finally getting competitive; if you want to strengthen your value proposition, I'd use the purchasing power that your structure should allow to keep your stock plentiful. You are no longer a Startup. Thank you for finally offering a more sensible policy for your product repairs. Keep floating!
The best company!
Now they are....
Lmao
so, doing this doesn't brick your board anymore?? good to know. *BUT* you've got a LONG way to go, Onewheel, to earn trust again. a long way...
Never did. 😉
6 months? What a joke 😂
6 month warranty on your battery is pretty solid. Obviously batteries degrade over long periods of time but a warranty gives you piece of mind that if your battery doesn't perform up to spec after replacement we'll get it swapped for you free of charge.
@@Onewheel Would u say 90 days is pretty solid? cuz its not 6 months. FM lied again. 6 month warranty is a "typo" according to Mark on ur support team.
Awesome video but next time can we get someone not so robotic and dead eyed lol maybe mark Zuckerberg lol I kid 🙏😂
Future Motion sucks
Love the support! 🫶🏼
