Update - I did find the new battery warranty sticker after I took the rails off...it was on the side instead of the rear, like the original battery. Alas...I'm still missing screws though 😂
i just can't get over how expensive they are really wanted one but in Australia they are $4,000AUD and i have seen so many creators talking about how the wiring inside is exposed and pushed up against one side of the board with the potential to cut into the wiring and short the board out. I thought Evolve skateboards had problems but these onewheels seem to have far more.

Absolutely zero tolerance for that especially with the CPSC breathing down their necks… I have around 3500 miles on my GT and I have now had to replace the battery, control, and motor. Mr. Ginter, I live in Casper, WY. I have ridden multiple days in a row in below zero temps and snow. I always brought my board inside to thaw back out after riding. I always wondered if I was hurting the battery. So far no issues but if it craters in the future I will speak up. I have 1700+ miles on my GT.
The only that comes to mind you didn’t mention is if you were charging overnight when it got cold. Charging cold lithium batteries will definitely kill them and I have no idea if FM has cold sensor to prevent charging when it is too cold… thanks for sharing!

Ya, wonder how the floatwheel will perform with molicel p42a pack. FM needs to add flat footpad option from the factory for GT too... However, my late 2021 OG pint has no issues with ~1400mi so far, fast and regular charging at normal indoor temps tho... Footpads can be a bit wonky and disengage depending on shoe type, vans hi-top Crocketts seem to work well, additional ankle protection, support and reliable.
It's funny when I received my Onewheel, the box was fairly pristine. When I sent the board in for warranty service, I got the same box back, but it was beat the F up. Can't blame FM, but you wonder how the handling varies so much with the shipping.
My new GT is only a month old. The first day the foot sensor was not engaging. I told FM and said a rep would get back to me with in 24 hr. Never heard back! Took the front foot pad off , cut out all the hot glue and then connector wire was put out of the plug. Push the wire back in. Works like a champ now. I really hot glued it. But it was never tested at the factory. Was just probably throw it in the box.

I live in Wisconsin, it gets REAL cold. I bought my board at release. No battery issues yet. About 1200 miles and loving it. Dubs installed this week. Tho, my motor connector ring did just break. No reason why.
I've had a Pint X for about a year and a half now and definitely enjoying enjoying it. I've really had it in my head that I want to get a GT, but this video and several others, including some of Lious Rossman's really make it difficult to want to give FM any more business. Some of the repairs that have been shown by them are absolutely awful and basic things like incorrect and missing screws? Come on... And they don't want owners to be able to repair their own boards because of "safety"? No, it's 100% just because they want to control the market and have all repairs go through them for profit. There's a relatively local XR that's only got 87 miles on it for only $600. I'm thinking of just picking that up for now instead of a GT. It is 4212 Hardware, so I'd have to get a chip mod to be able to have it CBXRed, but it'd still come out a ton cheaper than a GT and maybe more reliable and self-serviceable overall and wouldn't be giving any new money to FM.
I can't speak for GTs but while visiting Spokane, in 20 degree weather, my XRs would at least power up to warn me via the app, then nose dive on me if I ignored it. (Oh and I left them in my truck over night up until that happened.) They have 3,000 miles between them. One of them is a CBXR. I can easily justify another set of WTF rails for a 2nd trail board long before I could risk the agony bundled with GT ownership. Just knowing that FM Powder Coated the GT rails, which acts as an insulator, instead of Ceramic Coating the rails to allow heat to properly dissipate from the motor, told me all I needed to know. I know FM isn't publicly traded, but if their products were stocks, I'd sell GTs and by XRs all day. Just bought my 4th XR(CB) last week. My best friend of 15 years mocked me when I got my first Onewheel. He laughed and said it would be a fad. He rode mine for 20 minutes, woke up with sore legs, then had his own by the weekend. A year later he still occasionally thanks me for introducing him to it and says the Onewheel is the coolest thing he has ever bought in 40 years of life. He use to say he would never ride trails, now he says nothing is more satisfying than trails. It just goes to show, that the OneWheel will change you. Who knows, ride it far enough and maybe you'll become a flat earther. 😉 Sorry for the wall of text, TLDR... I ❤the OneWheel community!
Thx for the cold weather report! And lol at the last paragraph...so true. But yea, the GT is great when it's working, but definitely not as rock solid as the XR. For that reason, I still won't sell my XR! Functional old faithful is better then an oversized paperweight.
I went on vacation and my pint X got exposed to temperatures in the 30s and I got the battery too cold message. I waited about an hour and it worked fine except for I noticed that my mileage in the Onewheel app for that board got reset to 0 miles. I had about 3300 miles on it Before the reset back to zero. I noticed it happened the same day that my pint X battery said it was too cold. So I think they are related.
Know a guy that rides his in the snow as low as -17 degrees F. He did over 600 miles this winter in Wisconsin! I wouldn't do what he does but he claims to have no battery degradation.
should probably open the box and and check bms before sending it, oh there is the void warranty sticker? just get one printed by some guy, anyways this doesnt feel transparnt enough to me seriously. how much was the repair tho
Ya, it was mostly battery cost (~$632), but been keeping an eye on floatwheel, super excited to try some more alternative options! Keep those updates coming!! 🤙🏼
@@ThatsGinterEV thanks! we been working on production, but i thought all the process of produciton has been shown on video before, idk what to update, do you have any content suggestions?
There was a time where you could re-level the boards via 3rd party apps connected thru bluetooth. Future Motion has since locked out access to re-level via that method.
Time to switch to EUCs. They are more reliable. You can repair them yourself. More powerful motor, bigger range. Several vendors to choose from. Not locked to only one.
I had a similar failure but I had fewer than 50 miles on my board. I went camping and stayed in a heated cabin where I stored my board. In the morning it was about 45 degrees fahrenheit and I was able to ride a few hundred yards and stopped to talk to someone for 5 minutes and hopped back on the board and it just flopped over. I thought I must have turned it off so I pressed the power button and nothing. I tried all the tricks I could think of and no response. I only got a light to flash if I spun the wheel. I tried more trouble shooting when I got home with my charger and nothing. I got an RMA from FM and got the same canned response "...your Battery Module was not performing up to specifications and will need to be replaced". They quoted me the same repair cost but I decided I was not going to give them any more money. I didn't have faith in them or their batteries and based on their warranty they don't have much faith in them either. I figured I'd investigate it myself, get help from the community, or switch to Vesc.
Wow! Really disgusted with FM. They used the wrong XR screws, and then had missing screws 😅 And... they charged you an arm & leg for the repair. Just WOW! FM!! Do Better!! #QC #FFM
Duuude. The exact same thing happened with my first GT back in September. Went for a ride. Then it sat in the garage in 50-60 degree Minnesota weather. Went to turn on, nothing. If I’d spin the tire fast 5!3 light bar would flicker. But that was all. It’s still being looked at by one of the best in the biz, but last I heard he was still stumped. I’d get it if it was -10 degree weather. But a board being 30 to 50 degrees shouldn’t brick it. Whatever the gremlin is in your board is also in mine.
Dang, hope you get it resolved... I just wish I knew what caused it. In my professional field, it is expected that a root cause is found and documented to prevent repeat occurrences. Especially expensive root causes.
Yea, a few other boards wouldn't turn on, so we started the campfire. We let them all warm up and all of them except mine were able to power on. I tried for a few days to get it to turn on before giving up....
Oooof, yea, I’ve heard of that being an issue from the factory. They actually lubed my o-ring, so it looks like they are trying to avoid the pinch at least…. And if anything, I know The Float Life sells replacement o-rings in a pretty blue color for this very reason.
contemplating buying a onewheel but all the stuff around FM and their practices has me worried. Would love to not have to pay an arm and a leg for some repair not my fault but not deemed covered by them. For such an expensive luxury item I would like for it to last more than 6 months and also for it to be safe for my child. Wish Floatwheel could take something other than crypto and maybe a more solid date for delivery.
Ya - that's how I feel regarding the longevity. I get it if I left it out in freezing temps, or maybe left it uncharged/unused for a whole season, but ya...not like this....not like this.......(dramatically nods head side to side slowly).
Hey I love your videos, I have been watching you for a few weeks now and your amazing. But I wanted your opinion on using the chibattery CBGT? They figured out a way around the board getting bricked. You can replace your own battery. What do you think?
Thx! I'm not well versed in the aftermarket battery options, but definitely heard of it. I'm not sure where we stand now if you have the latest firmware that includes haptic buzz / custom shaping 3.0. Last I read is that if you have a backup of your firmware, you can do a roll-back, then possibly do an aftermarket battery replacement, but ya, that's all hearsay, not experience. My dream is still a replaceable, modular battery setup - for both riding with a lighter payload, but also for airline travel.
I think FM might be dealing with some culture-shift issues. Sometimes it feels like they hear the community and other times it feels like they're so distant. Hopefully they're working on being more consistent. Until then, it's time to document the exact state of your board with photos/video before sending it in. Sad that it comes to this.
Problem is FM disabled cell balancing in the GT. Cells probably got out of balance and the cold took out the weak cell. And on the GT leaving it plugged in to long can also burn up the bms where the Xr will trickle charge and balance the cells. This should be mandatory not disabled on the newer version of the product. Fm doesn't deserve our loyalty.
I’m sure that’s not true. I was recommended by FM to leave the charger over night every so often to balance the cells and also to charge to 90% when a full charge isn’t needed. The GT is an awesome build and I don’t think you could do a Vedder ESC board for any where near the price.
@@graemegeorge8955I was getting pushback and my board going red at 13% batter. Left it on the charger for 24hr and today I got down to 5% without the board shutting down 👍
My gt hates the cold. It's hard to start at 50f... drilling the power button for a few minutes will flicker the power on. No problems turning on at 70f. Maybe it's a wonky temp sensor...
Being in Phoenix, cold is not something I typically need to deal with lol... But ya, we had quite a few GTs up at that camp trip, and they all powered back on after warming up a bit.
@@ThatsGinterEV sent you a friend request on the onewheel app. Please start posting your local rides... Got a buddy in Tucson. If you are ever here, always welcome... recommend the big loop.
@@ThatsGinterEV Since you're one of the only ppl to respond, I just put my 40th mile on the board, slick tire. I tried to go thru short flat grass and unless I have momentum it barely moves. Tried Flow and Highline mode and no torgue to move me. No issue on paved hills though and I have some really steep ones in my neighborhood. Newbie here btw! I'm 215 lbs so well short of the limit.
That is very disappointing for any company to have poor quality control especially when it's a warranty repair. I can understand that a battery can go out for many different reasons, maybe the charger is damaging the cells? Who knows ,but the basic responsibility of returning the board in as good if not better condition is very troubling and I would feel salty for sure. This makes me nervous about my GT now.
I inquired on every RMA if they could just give me some more info...something to help me take better care of the board, or to prevent a repeat issue, but unfortunately it's usually it's a generic response.
@ThatsGinterEV they should at least give a technical explanation, like one of the cells had internal resistance and it unbalanced the whole back. They probably don't really know unless they checked each cell. Still not a good customer service experience.
@@ThatsGinterEV The designers of the board don't tell the public what makes the board work or error or stop working. Even if you go with a DIY onewheel would you know what makes it break or work, these things are complicated.
This is my only worry really. With every mod in the book, its alot to revert mainly to stock. Ended up cracking my lid over tightening on 1 screw. Prob make me replace the whole controller 😢 Saw other people who did the same with a grim email about it
Yikes, I'll have to keep that in mind. I use a power tool most the time, but I use it more for removal...I wonder if anyone makes 3D printed replacement ones yet. 🤔
Yeah bro I've literally read lots of GTs with 3,000 mi and it's all stock everything they haven't opened it up at all... Maybe it's cuz you opened your board up... The GTS with a lot of issues are the modded ones
Ya - I definitely tinkered with it, and I ride hard. I'm all for being responsible for my actions, I just want to know what happened so I can make it last longer...but ya I never get any good feedback.
Dude, I even read somewhere in their Q&A about warranty, that if the shipping box is not in good enough condition, they'll send it back with a replacement box 😂. Guess my OG box is still good!
Thinking of selling my wheels. It’s a mix of the huge risk of injury, lack of true support… trust in board (and again back to injury)… I think I might be going back to my good old bicycle lol 😂
So you're okay with selling your wheels and letting someone else get injured on them? Of course I'm joking. It's a tough call, I hope you keep your wheels and don't have any serious accidents. I had a defective Pint that kept nosediving on me after a few hundred miles. FM fixed it under warranty. The problem was the nut around the power switch came loose. No issues now, but you talk about paranoia on the old Pint, I certainly went through it. Every ride I started out nerveous, then just eased into them. Now I go straight to the float state.
Dude, had the same problem on my Pint! My 8 year old was riding it when it started doing it too. As a protective parent, you know I had concern after that issue.
Sounds like they don't want to even attempt to fix it to save the customer some money. Who cares what the problem is, lets just drop in a new battery and charge them. Ridiculous
Ya....that's my assumption. Fast turn around time is great, don't get me wrong, but I still don't want to know what happened so that I can try to avoid it from happening again.

It is 4212 Hardware, so I'd have to get a chip mod to be able to have it CBXRed, but it'd still come out a ton cheaper than a GT and maybe more reliable and self-serviceable overall and wouldn't be giving any new money to FM.
$600 is a great deal!
Sorry for the wall of text, TLDR...
😮
One of the reasons I decided to give up on onewheel is the lack of service if repair is needed
It's not a reliable daily uses
should probably open the box and and check bms before sending it, oh there is the void warranty sticker? just get one printed by some guy, anyways this doesnt feel transparnt enough to me seriously. how much was the repair tho
Wait, how do you level after WTF rails?
There was a time where you could re-level the boards via 3rd party apps connected thru bluetooth. Future Motion has since locked out access to re-level via that method.
You should get a floatwheel instead! Check it out!
Oh ya, I've been keeping tabs on it...
FM releasing the GT destroyed their company
Very informative.
Time to switch to EUCs. They are more reliable. You can repair them yourself. More powerful motor, bigger range. Several vendors to choose from. Not locked to only one.
Definitely been considering adding one to the stable.
My next move. Just want to determine the best well rounded EUC, power, range, nimbleness and least likely to have issues or catch fire.
Wow, fewer then 50 miles!? 😳
fm is the worst brother , idk how you keep calm , f them
Wow! Really disgusted with FM. They used the wrong XR screws, and then had missing screws 😅 And... they charged you an arm & leg for the repair. Just WOW! FM!! Do Better!! #QC #FFM
Yea…I even placed a signed hand written note in the box thanking them for taking care of my board……………. 😐
I'd be interested if you find a solution!
Did you put it front of a fire and warm it up?
Yea, a few other boards wouldn't turn on, so we started the campfire. We let them all warm up and all of them except mine were able to power on. I tried for a few days to get it to turn on before giving up....
Tell it like it is brotha! 🗣️💯👍
My GT came back with a torn/pinched front controller gasket 🤦🏽♂️
Do you recommend the enduro?
Right now, for trail riding on the GT, ya... There are new tire options coming soon though, so if you aren't in a rush, Id wait for those reviews.
One word...."VESC".
Been a year plus now and haven't looked back.
FM who?
@@brodyport6395can people vesc the GT? I don't want to have to buy an XR to have it vesc
@@RichieValentine Absolutely! I know of several people that have a vesc GT now at this point.
Vesc is the way
I’m sure that’s not true.
Left it on the charger for 24hr and today I got down to 5% without the board shutting down 👍
Time to order a Floatwheel.
🤔🤔🤔
My gt hates the cold. It's hard to start at 50f... drilling the power button for a few minutes will flicker the power on. No problems turning on at 70f. Maybe it's a wonky temp sensor...
Being in Phoenix, cold is not something I typically need to deal with lol... But ya, we had quite a few GTs up at that camp trip, and they all powered back on after warming up a bit.
@@ThatsGinterEV sent you a friend request on the onewheel app. Please start posting your local rides... Got a buddy in Tucson. If you are ever here, always welcome... recommend the big loop.
i have onehweel set to charge only to 90 percent but says its at 99%. i didn't have the app open when charging so is that the issue?
Never tried the 90% charge option, so cannot say. But I can see how this may help in battery longevity if you often don't need full range.
I'm excited to VESC my board and finally be done with FM. We deserve better for what we pay for these things
@@ThatsGinterEV The designers of the board don't tell the public what makes the board work or error or stop working. Even if you go with a DIY onewheel would you know what makes it break or work, these things are complicated.
@Jdb63 is it a gt?
This is my only worry really.
With every mod in the book, its alot to revert mainly to stock.
Ended up cracking my lid over tightening on 1 screw. Prob make me replace the whole controller 😢
Saw other people who did the same with a grim email about it
Yikes, I'll have to keep that in mind. I use a power tool most the time, but I use it more for removal...I wonder if anyone makes 3D printed replacement ones yet. 🤔
@ThatsGinterEV was mentioning it to Kenny3dway and he said he has done pint and XR but he's swamped, but something he'd possibly look into.
Bummmmmmmer… I got my controller and motor replaced and my total was $722. Glad to soo you back riding tho
Aye, that's the most important thing. I can handle most repairs if I can get the parts...but yaaaaa.....
Did you get a price for controller? Cracked my lid, worst case if I ever have to send it in. Curious on price
@@MQT.Onewheel controller was $325 I think
Do they quote you for these services or do they get your board, determine what's wrong and then tell you the price of the issue?
How many miles
I forget the exact number, but it was somewhere around 2k...
My battery is bricked from storage over winter. Has 27 miles. Just won’t turn on
Ugh...
FFM
You had to rapidly click the power button for at least 1 min, tap tap tap until it turns on.
I tried lol.... i even pretended I was doing the contra cheat code! ⬆️⬆️⬇️⬇️⬅️➡️⬅️➡️🅱️🅰️🅱️🅰️START😜
They don’t even give you a new box?!?!?! Ridiculous!
Dude, I even read somewhere in their Q&A about warranty, that if the shipping box is not in good enough condition, they'll send it back with a replacement box 😂. Guess my OG box is still good!
Please tell me you reported all the issues to FM. This actually pisses me off. I'm beyond disappointed in their service
Uhh...Wow. #speechless
Your channel is amazing bro, you're an asset to the OW world
You could've probably built a working vesc with all the time you haven't had your gt 😂. I hope you don't get anymore issues
Thx Terreonn...ya, I'm always considering it. If my wife wasn't periodically hopping on the XR, it would have been my project board already.
That's ridiculous honestly
Damn mine just came in the mail I almost want to return it and I might just do that cause fck tht sht bro
👀👀 dang
Whats the mileage? Fm has sus programming
I think somewhere around 2000 when this happened....
